What does Juliet’s premonition mean?

In Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, they both know they are pawns of fate and their love is doomed, but they choose to ignore their instincts. They walk out onto Juliet’s balcony, and Romeo is preparing to leave. Juliet insists that day has not yet broken, but Romeo insists that “night’s candles are burnt out”, and it is time for him to make haste unless he wants to be killed. Juliet realizes that what Romeo says is true and urges him to hurry to Mantua before he is caught.

The dawning sun represents the end of Romeo and Juliet’s time together and the threat of being discovered by their families in the harsh light of day. After a kiss, Romeo climbs down the rope ladder, and Juliet calls after him, worried that it will be years before they see each other again. Romeo insists on sending her greetings as often as he can and believes they will be together soon. Juliet has a terrible premonition, and Romeo begs her not to worry, then takes his leave.

What day was Juliet born?

Juliet, born on Lammas Eve at night in August, is approaching her fourteenth birthday. In many cultures and time periods, women married and had children at a young age. Lady Capulet had given birth to her first child by the time Juliet was 14 years old. Even wealthy suitor Count Paris tried to encourage him to wait a little longer before marrying his daughter, feeling that she was still too young.

In the English poem Romeus and Juliet by Arthur Brooke, Juliet is approaching her sixteenth birthday and Romeo is the same age. In that era, most English brides were at least 19 years old when they first married, most commonly at about 23 years. Most English noblewomen were at least 16 when they married. Shakespeare may have reduced Juliet’s age from 16 to 13 to demonstrate the dangers of marriage at too young an age, as it is believed that early marriage and its consummation permanently damaged a young woman’s health, impaired a young man’s physical and mental development, and produced sickly or stunted children.

The common belief in Elizabethan England was that motherhood before 16 was dangerous, leading to the adoption of 18 as the earliest reasonable age for motherhood and 20 and 30 as the ideal ages for women and men to marry. Shakespeare might have also reduced Juliet’s age from 16 to 13 to demonstrate the dangers of marriage at too young an age.

What does Romeo’s premonition foreshadow?

In Act 1, Romeo shares his apprehension about attending the Capulet ball, a foreshadowing scene that leads to his untimely death. His friends insist on this, and Romeo’s fatalistic experience with Juliet sets off a series of events that ultimately lead to his death. Tybalt foreshadows his unintentional meeting with Romeo at the ball, which escalates into aggressive hatred. The vengeful battle between Tybalt and Romeo, which ends with Romeo’s death, demonstrates the validity of Tybalt’s prediction. • Regarding Cancer and the female body, Mars was two degrees behind a conjunction with my Cancer Moon (11th house, 12 deg) when I collapsed from severe dysmenorrhea on Sunday. I was rushed to the hospital and kept overnight for observation. The gynecologist couldn’t find a medical cause for the extreme pain. I was allowed to leave the next day at my own request. While waiting for the doctor’s note, I met a woman in the cafeteria who had had her breast removed because of cancer. We had an intimate and beautiful talk about health and life. She encouraged me to change my professional life to prevent further harm to my body and soul. I’ll never forget her and our conversation. She has two daughters at my age. I feel that we were meant to meet and I’m really grateful I had the chance to chat with her.

  • I had this friend. Same exact birthday. We talked about breaking generational chains, lifting our families from poverty. We were the first in our families to finish high school, and without having had a baby. We were focused on college & work. Every so often, calling to remind each other to stay away from the street business. But we’d fall into it. Our families were ingrained with it. We’d get back up & try again, each setback a reminder to not conform or get complacent. Years pass. We end up back in our hometown, both defeated by the world & unfairness. Okay, so maybe success can be within limits? Like a queen of the underworld wouldn’t rise to such a title in the light. So be queen where you’re at vs. being the lowest of a “higher” society. I struggled at the lowest of “higher” society. Played by rules, applied for aid, scraping by. Was treated awful all the way. She was fine, slanging & making bank, security was probably always a problem… but ppl liked her and wanted to hang. I thought. I’ll never survive or thrive living by these standards… but I also could never want to be corrupt in ways. So is this it? I’m just gonna struggle the whole way? Then she died. It’s the last overdose funeral I attended. I refuse to go to another. The room was packed, people were outside of the funeral home who couldn’t fit. I’ll just say my head was sent spinning for years to come. And still, I live in a shadow of her memory. Trying to the best of my ability to live the life I know we both wanted, but has felt out of reach.

  • Excellent podcast! Not sure if you know, (or if it’s the same for everyone else), YouTube has put a huge amount of adverts in, chopping all over the discussion. Don’t mind a few, but I listen at work and have to keep stopping and skipping every 5 minutes 😅. Love your takes on the astrology…every day!

  • Everyone NEEDS to watch the Last Air Bender. I think it would be cool to really dissect elements of the show in relation to astrology. The character portrayals in relation to the elements is too uncanny for there not to have been direct correlations of astrological archetypes. SPOILER: And of course the overarching theme/importance of the solstice and eclipse.

  • I have mars in cancer placement and 4 times in my life I have been injured in my ankle and once with my knee and each time I was told by the doctor i would never run again and possibly never walk right again but every time according to the same Drs healing quicker than they have ever seen, I proved them wrong each time.

  • At a mundane level I’m curious about the correlation between two transits. One is the current Mars in Cancer. The other is the Cardinal grand cross of 2012/2014 in which Mars was in libra, Jupiter was in Cancer, Uranus was in Aries and Pluto was in Capricorn. Appears to be a six-month project. There must be some connection. In this interlude my basic strategy is to be use care with drugs, alcohol, and medications as Neptune in Pisces is retrograde in its final degrees currently, Saturn is Pieses is also back peddling indicate a need for responsibility. I’m predicting an increase in good old fashion bar fights in the near future based on the Mars placement. Useful episode, thanks to all.

  • The next few weeks seem like the most complex lunation cycle for my chart I’ve yet seen (albeit after only 6 months of studying astrology): The eclipse is happening on top of my 1st house Jupiter-Saturn conjunction, which is trine my Venus conjoined Ketu in Aquarius; and the full moon will be on top of my Pluto not only trine my Aquarius Sun but in antiscia with my Mercury-Mars in Pisces. And there’s already a lot of Mars action toning all this. Spooky indeed! Not sure if I wish I had a cabin in the woods to retreat to for spooky season! The best course is likely not thinking about any of this craziness too much 😉

  • I think I got bamboozled by too many ideas. But again, if I think of black holes and centrifigal spin off from the direction of the vortex, and planetary squares, it al wants to be related My mind is filled simultaneously with the two unliikely bedfellows of astrological eclipses and god knows what about black holes, though it has all been immensely intetesting.

  • Can’t wait for the Libra solar eclipse and new moon, even if it may kill me. Libra rules my 9th house and i have Neptune and Saturn conjunct in it, but 21 and 22 degrees. I feel like the conjunction in Aries will be a game changer in some way Anxious for all the learning. Thanks for a great pod craft. Very infomative and insightful. Happy October! 💙

  • OMG so interesting about your comment about Saturn in Aries and coming back from an injury. That idea was new to me, but I have been working through that and coming to my wisdom only yesterday about not doing something to fully allow more time for my body to heal. After the last few months of over doing things that have caused a few flare ups setting me back. And my Saturn is conjunct the Chiron 1st house Aries right now.

  • I have been listening to presentations of Nassim Harramein, and the physics of the ubiverse and beyond ditto black holes inherent within every structure of creation. Black holes – eclipses?? One image of lite being drawn into the vortex energies of the black hole was that of the appearance of the surface of the water bending to the vortex of singularity. And that surace in my imagination is an aspect of what is happening, still maintains integrity, absirbs and reflects the light around it. So I think of libra bending to great forces.

  • I think I had a nodal return my oldest just turned 19 and gave birth to a baby boy in August… as for Mars in cancer My one son was jumped and me smacked a chocked by my now ex boyfriend father of my child…. a relationship that psychology really messed with me the past 3 years then you see the true story …I feel like I looked crazy after what I went through now 39

  • Hi Adam, I’ve noticed that suddenly there are many, many YouTube sponsored commercials popping up during your talks now…….making it very difficult to listen. Maybe I’ve misunderstood, but I was thinking that the fundraising you do at the end of the year that we contribute to……helped to allow your talks to be commercial free for easier listening. I wasn’t sure, but I thought I would at least ask. Thanks 😊

  • Loving the Packers/Vikings Astro reflection 💚💛/💜💛and this episode recorded before yesterday’s game 😂 side note, loyal packer fan here, by geographical default since I grew up 5 doors from the stadium and parked cars in my front yard as a kid, first taste of entrepreneurship, Cancer ♋️ rising here. Mars in first house has me once again, since the last time Mars was there, obsessed with red lip color and soooooo emotional 😭 I almost want to purposely watch a good hallmark movie just for the cleanse alone, but fear I might drown 🤣😭😭😭😍

  • Okay wow. Just as you were unfolding what happened post eclipse 2005, Adam sharing the story of an old friend passing – it hit me – a similar dynamic happened Nov 2005. I used to use heavy stuff in my youth with a small group. I had quit by then but a few were still partaking and in Nov 2005, one of my friends was high, and because he was hearing voices telling him to kill one of our other friends… he did. He’s still in jail. She is gone forever. It is a very dark and sensitive story, feels intense to type in this comment box, but holy astros, that parallel coming through right as you are all discovering this together is wild. Vindimayatrix ~ wow.

  • I’m 71 and just now becoming more interested in politics, with all the excitement going on, . X addict of CNN. Merc/ Venus in Sag, 11th house. There was a good speech by Netanyahou today 9-30, addressed to Iranian people, very peace provoking. He was born Oct 21st. So many Libras coming alive on the political scene. He wants peace without war. It makes sense to me. Love and light. 💕😊
