The rite damage die changes as you gain blood hunter levels, as shown in the crimson rite damage die column of the blood hunter table. If your weapon leaves your grip, the rite fades immediately, and an active rite on a weapon thrown fades directly. The rite does not stay if you sheath the weapon and take your hand of it, but it does stay since you have not let it stay.
When you hit an undead creature with a weapon for which the Rite of the Dawn is active, you roll an additional hemocraft die when determining the extra damage from the rite. You can apply your Crimson Rite feature to your unarmed strikes, which you treat as one weapon. You can use Dexterity instead of Strength for the attack and damage rolls of your unarmed strikes, which deal 1d6.
The Blood Hunter is a martial striker mechanically similar to the Ranger, with a similar skill set both in and out of combat. Building a Blood Hunter feels very rewarding. However, you cannot use Crimson Rite on your Unarmed Strikes. A Crimson Rite is applied to a wielded weapon in most circumstances, although there is one Blood Hunter subclass that can add their Rites to their Fists: the Order of the Lycan.
At 6th level, when you damage a creature with a weapon for which you have an active crimson rite, you can channel hemocraft magic to sear an arcane brand into… As a bonus action, you can mark an enemy within 60 feet. Until the end of your turn, all crimson rite damage you deal to the target is doubled.
📹 What Will Happen if a God Hand is Killed? How Will it Change Berserk?
Ever since Berserk began, the one question on every reader’s mind has been how exactly does one deal with the God Hand?
Can you crimson rite natural weapons?
The Sage Advice Compendium corroborates the assertion that Crimson Rite can be applied to natural weapons; however, it is notable that unarmed strikes are not considered weapons. This may be attributed to the fact that JavaScript is disabled or blocked by an extension, or that the browser in question does not support cookies.
How many crimson fists survived?
Secondary explosions destroyed a fortress-monastery and its surrounding defenses, killing hundreds of Space Marines. Six companies of Crimson Fists were destroyed, leaving only sixteen Space Marines, including Chapter Master Pedro Kantor, to survive. The fortress-monastery, which controlled the world’s defensive satellites, collapsed, allowing the Ork invaders to nearly overwhelm the planet’s resistance. The survivors, forced to move stealthily through captured territory, connected with a detachment of Crimson Fists to defend Rynn’s World’s capital, New Rynn City.
They reunited with nearly four hundred surviving Crimson Fists battle-brothers, shocked to find their Chapter Master still alive. Kantor faced a choice, as most of his Chapter had been destroyed, leaving him with a difficult decision.
Which Crimson Rite is best?
The Crimson Rites are primarily used for flavor, but Rite of the Storm is more useful due to fewer creatures having resistance to lightning damage. Rite of the Oracle is more valuable at higher levels due to psychic damage resistance. Rite of Dawn is ideal against almost every enemy type, bar celestials. Blood Maledict Curses in 5e don’t require a saving throw upfront, such as Blood Curse of the Marked, Eyeless, Blood Curse of the Muddled Mind, and Blood Curse of Corrosion.
These Curses increase passive damage and can be Amplified to punish creatures with multiattacks. Blood Curse of the Muddled Mind is a bane for active D and D 5e blood hunter Blood Curses, as it disadvantages Concentration saving throws and can end game-changing spell effects before tipping the odds against the party.
How long do crimson rites last?
At 2nd level, you can invoke a crimson rite of hemocraft to infuse your weapon strikes with elemental energy. This bonus action allows you to activate any rite on one weapon you hold. Activating a rite takes necrotic damage equal to one roll of your hemocraft die, which cannot be reduced. Attacks made with this weapon are magical and deal extra damage equal to your hemocraft die. A weapon can only hold one active rite at a time, and other creatures cannot benefit from your rite. You learn one crimson rite at the first level and another at 7th and 14th levels.
What is the best blood curse?
Blood Maledict Curses in 5e don’t require a saving throw upfront, including those with no saving throw or those that allow them at the end of the creature’s turn. Blood Curse of the Marked and Blood Curse of the Eyeless are reliable choices for passive damage increases that scale with the blood hunter’s Hemocraft Die. Blood Curse of the Muddled Mind is a bane for active D and D 5e blood hunter Blood Curses that affect foes, while Blood Curse of Corrosion guarantees at least one turn of the Poisoned condition. Tough is a best feat for blood hunters, as it allows them to fight on the front lines and take constant damage from their abilities without fear for their safety.
Can Crimson Rites stack?
The Blood Hunter is a two-weapon fighting PHB that resembles the Ranger’s attacks more than the Fighter’s. Players can only get two attacks and apply Crimson Rite to both weapons for an on-hit damage boost. However, the stacking costs of Crimson Rite are worth considering.
The Blood Hunter is a mechanically similar martial striker to the Ranger, with a similar skill set both in and out of combat. Building a Blood Hunter feels similar to a Ranger, but it is a complicated class with multiple resource pools to track and Crimson Rite allowing temporary alteration of hit point maximum.
If you’re intimidated by math or find spellcasters difficult to play, the Blood Hunter may not be for you. However, if you’re comfortable managing resource pools and making life-or-death risk-reward decisions in combat, the Blood Hunter offers a lot to offer.
How many Crimson rites can you have active?
A weapon is only capable of carrying one active rite at any given time; however, it is possible for separate rites to be carried on different weapons.
Can Crimson overtake Hallow?
The text explains that the Hallow and Corruption cannot convert each other, meaning corruption surrounded by the Hallow will not spread. Hallowed grass will take over Crimson grass, but it still stops at Crimstone. In an XBox 360 world, Hallow is taking over a Crimson chasm, and even a block of Crimstone can be converted naturally. The text also mentions confusion about the measurement of 1 tile = 2′ East/West on a compass, which was initially thought to be 120 blocks. The text suggests that there may be some individuals who are not as knowledgeable about compass measurements.
Which hand is crimson fists?
The Legion badge of the Crimson Fists is a left-hand gauntlet symbolizing the strength, determination, and defiance of Heretic and Traitor. The insignia is painted red in commemoration of Primarch Magellan of the Crimson Fists and is typically displayed as a crimson fist on a black background with a black border.
Can you crimson rite your fists?
The Crimson Rite feature may be applied to unarmed strikes, which are treated as a single weapon for the purposes of this analysis. It should be noted, however, that JavaScript may be disabled or blocked by extensions or browsers that do not support cookies.
Can you have Crimson Rite on 2 weapons?
The Crimson Rite may be employed on a variety of weapons, resulting in augmented hit point diminution. The majority of weapons are only susceptible to a single rite at any given time. In the context of this discussion, it is important to note that each end of a polearm or quarterstaff is treated as a separate weapon. It should be noted that a rite may cease to be effective at any time, without any action being required. Access to additional Primal Rites is available at the 6th and 14th levels, while Esoteric Rites are available at the 11th and 20th levels.

Crimson Desert IS NOT What You Think! I PLAYED IT! Here’s What You Need to Know! In this Crimson Desert video, I will be …
What if the reason no one can really hit Griffith is due to there hate for him and Richard hit him because he had disappointment towards him. Guts had no hate for Griffith when he beat him unlike the first time. I’m sure skull night lost due to his hate for void. But his hate came out at the end. Guts has had time to develop. If he can tame himself maybe he could tame the berzerk armor. Maybe that’s why skull knight could use it so long is he didn’t really have hate till the end? Then guts and skull knights story would be like reading a book and then reading it backwards. Instead of a spiral unless casca dies?
I have a theory I hear no where else. That is that the God Hand have a limited time to exist I mean its members will die eventually. The Eclipse happens every 216 years stands to reason that on every eclipse event a new member of the God Hand is born and we don’t see former members of the God Hand roaming about is most than likely they died before a new member of the God Hand is chosen.
Sounds like the god hand are just humans manifestations websiteing that feeling similar to how a mage utilizes mana flowing through themselves or the realm to cast spells. The strong emotional concepts are completely innocuous, but when someone experiences strong emotional turmoil it becomes easy for those emotional concepts to be drawn to them. Once the door is opened it’s hard for said person to cast off the feeling, because they’ve become an emotional wreck like an inconsolable child. On the subconscious level they become ruled by the emotion, but have enough sentience to act of their own volition. If god hand were to die, the feelings would just go back to being innocuous like it always has, but will not have the guiding influence of that person guiding it.
Idea of evil would replace them over time, my theory is that if spirit real is born from human thoughts so idea of evil must be, he is made from human cruelity and in order to get rid of god hands humanity must be purged from sin or be purged itself and thats is propably what idea of evil intend to do. He guide god hands towards humanity mass sacrifice in order to stop his own existance
I think it would be cool if at some point Guts would have to throw his sword into the abyss or something like that to seal it off or to strike some final blow to knock Griffith (or the idea of evil) into it. It would be nice to see him have to give it up for one last, final act.. and thereby giving up being a warrior.
I think Guts will use his behelt. To transform into a god hand killing. Machine. His desire for that exceeds all he wants. He will turn into the beast of darkness. Take over hell or the void. Keep it operational to a point because you can not have good without evil. Without destroying the world. Somehow. Forever locking the astral realm from the physical realm. While putting back everything back In it’s respective place. Not be human anymore and not be together with casska. Unfortunately. Poor guy. He can get no brakes.
Weird they dropped 4 vids of just boss fighting in the game. Everything that had me excited about this game had absolutely nothing to do with boss fights. It was about there being so many different mechanics in the game, I would have liked to see that. I don’t understand the obsession with boss fights as if that’s the only thing players out there is interested in these days.
its really cool that they took moves from black desert and added them into this. like the forward slashes are from the warrior succession kit and the grab is also a warrior grab to. Very nice addiition on the combat Pearl abyss has fostered in a gamee where balancing does not need to be a focal point
Honestly I’m still interested. Not every game needs a character creator, not every game needs branching storylines, not every game needs to be an RPG. The game does look like it might be too ambitious, but I thought the same thing about Black Myth Wukong and that game’s great from what I hear. The final judgement will come after release.
I thought this game would fall more in line with the Witcher 3, where we play as a character we don’t create but get put into the shoes of, which is still the case, but influence how they act and even what armour they wear or weapon they use. To see this game stray away from the rpg aspects and focus more on combat, and less on things like choice in equipment stats or play styles, is actually really refreshing to see. The scope of the game is already HUGE from what we’ve seen, so I can imagine trying to implement an rpg experience ontop of that would be a bit too ambitious, and it’s nice that they’ve evolved this game from an MMO into something that seems unique. I’m getting more and more excited for this game, and I think it’s because you can see from how it’s starting to shape together that the studio is passionate about making it, and that feels like a rarity these days
That doesn’t surprise me about the combat system. I haven’t played Black Desert Online but the little bit I know from when I was looking into the combat system was that it’s a bunch of combos like that where you’re holding multiple different buttons down together to produce a certain move or moveset. So that is pretty close to what I was expecting. As far as RPG or Action adventure goes, I’m ok with it not being full on RPG, but I do hope there’s some amount of build craft available. I’m hoping for something similar to the Witcher 3, where yeah there’s no character creation, you are playing as Geralt and everyone has the same witcher abilities to choose from, but there’s still a skill tree and the option to lean into certain aspects of the build options and kinda create a play style whether it’s more defensive or more offensive or lean more into the magic or lean more into the physical combat. Build craft is one of my favorite elements of these games. That said, even in something like Zelda BotW/TotK where you don’t really have much build craft beyond just which weapons you want to use, if the open world is good enough and there’s enough content to do, then the game can still be great. So if it takes them 2 more years to find the niche and make it right I’m good with it. Id rather wait for it to be right and have a clear vision that makes a great game, then come out with something that feels incomplete or just ambiguously trying to be too many different things at once. With UE5 driving the graphical end of the game there, it will still look great whether it comes out next year or in 3 years.
Don’t worry. The developer of this game is a bit crazy, in a good way. They are creating the game with the spirit of a true craftsman. The head of the company is personally involved in the development and is so dedicated that they’re working on it wearing nothing but a t-shirt. This is someone who wants to create an amazing console game before they die. It’s going to be an awesome game.
The one thing you forgot to mention is the “OMG! That’s Freakin’ Cool!!” factor. This game is super flashy with sooo many cool stylistic moves…and not just the main character. Those boss moves are dope too: body slams, quick draw sword slashes, shield bashes, etc. Just perusal the battles is like perusal a well-choreographed fantasy action fight sequence!
Thanks so much for information. I’ve been following Crimson Desert for quite some time now as know we all have. I hope it doesn’t turn into another Nioh or something like that. I know a lot of people enjoy the Nioh series but it just wasn’t my cup of tea. Here’s to hoping it something we can all enjoy!
I love it so far, this is close yo my ideal of a game, always wanted a Skyrim like game like this though, one of things ive always wanted is parkoar in games like skyrim if your characters weight is low, so theifs could be a better option, but this game is super close to being my dream game for sure. Ngl would prefer rpg type game but this is great if they pull it off
I kinda like it. It makes me think of a lot of differnt things. First off the mechanical premise of an action game makes me think more of the OG Lords of the fallen. The development makes me think that they are constantly refining what they got with the hope that a more simple system should let the player focus more on the core. This game feels like could potentially be pretty narrative heavy, though that might be better served by a more ambitious sequel if this does well. Id like to see the concept applied to a souls game where the melee component is more gear driven than stat/skill driven. To the point of certain gear also bestows certain active/passive abilities. You dont need a complex leveling system if you have multiple MEANINGFUL gear slots items and it becomes a matter of blending the best effects. So like 10 slots worth of gear can potentially give you 10 different effects, Which you could theoretically stack effects for more efficency at that at the cost of versatility. 10 slots betweeen a right/left hand. But the important thing is the effects to be meaningful. Not 0.00039% resist. Im thinking effects like 10 second invisibility, Helm with underwater breathing, Or boots with short duration lava walk, Shadow step cloak for quick/rogue types. Guantlets to “hulk up” a more tanky build, ect. It an interesting game. I will be keeping my eye out for it. Now if they would hurry up and drop the PS5 pro.
Have you played Black Desert Online? Honestly, if can be a bit intimidating to learn, but once you get the hang of it, there is NO better combat system ever. It feels SO good, even the example you give where you worry against multiple enemies, it feels incredible. I remember just grinding mobs for hours because it felt that good to do so. No other game comes close. Of course, just because it’s the same dev doesn’t mean the games are the same, but from what you said, the combat sounds very similar.
The amount of things you can do in Red Dead 2 sounded crazy at the time, but it’s still regarded as a visual and mechanical masterpiece. As a result, people are still comparing it to modern games with similar styles of open world exploration. Crimson Desert looks like a cool, in-depth experience. Glad they’re self publishing it and not under some corporation’s thumb for a release date.
The great thing about a fixed main character is that you can make a far more complex story around the player, since the devs can decide exactly what and who you are. There is no way to make a story like God of war Ragnarok when you could up and make the main character a girl it just would be impossible to do that. So I’m hoping we get a really good story that goes with kind of game.
I’m fine with it being an action game but it is concerning that the devs don’t seem secure in that identity. The first thing about action games is that they don’t need open worlds. They are either more like a metroidvania or linear, because the focus is the combat. In that sense also, the characters don’t look like from an action game. Everything in this game screams RPG which is bound to make gamers confused. I’ve always fought that black desert itself was thematicaly all over the place. The aesthetics were somewhat grounded, but what the characters were able to do made them look like demigods or something. In short, the combat was too over the top for an aesthetic that asked for something more slow and grounded. To me it’s a red flag when a studio doesn’t know how to harmonize how their game looks to what it actually is.
Idk why but this game while looks and sounds amazing on paper has not really impressed me with anything we have seen. Seems like the kind of game to way over promise and under deliver. Also I really am not a fan of the over use of particles and motion blur in combat. I really hope we can ton that down on pc. Either way I am not sold though but still think the game has potential.
@ 2:05 this is like having a movelist from a fighting game in a Action Adventure RPG. So you are never locked in the same monotonous moveset you see in many other action rpg’s that have you mashing square square triangle and the occasional special move that takes up a action point over and over. You use whatever moves you want to come up with to make a combo! The many different button presses just means that we have a TON of moves to use at our disposal! This allows the player themselves to express their own style of combat whether you want to be more efficient or more flashy. All i want is souls like/Monster hunter like bosses with a technical combat system we see here. This game may just be the one!
considering it seems they didnt know what direction they wanted to take the game in, i’m still perplexed why they didn’t focus if DokeV first, which seem much more realized stylistically and garnered a ton of attention and hype (9+ million views on their trailer before they took it down) and yet they decided to put more effort in to Crimson Desert, which aesthetically, we already have so much of (Witcher, Dragons Dogma 2, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Baulders Gate 3) and we’re getting alot more of (Chrono Odyssey, DragonAge Veilgaurd) idk me personally i would’ve focused on the thing that made us stand out
Was there any mention of coop/multiplayer? Because like you said they started making this as a new MMORPG but then changed directions. You also said there won’t be a character creator so multiplayer would be kinda weird if everybody was the same person, which leads me to believe they sadly scrapped the multiplayer.
I love how there been a surge of single player action games like black myth wu kong and hifi rush from Chinese and Korean gane developer’s it just shows how much love and passion they put into there games unlike western developers who just release the same old stupid and boring games that nobody asked for this game looks like a breath of fresh air for the games industry.
A beautiful realistic looking game with amazing scenery and graphics… and they toss in action arcade combat with exaggerated moves and totally unrealistic arcade-like gameplay. WTF kinda blend is that?? Got to say that’s a major disappoint for me. Anyone else gettin that vibe after perusal the combat?
I’m so hyped for this and have been for ages. I find rpg’s can be so overwhelming with all the points and armour and grind. I love that this game might focus on telling an epic story. Boss fights will be rewarding and be the actual cause of growth rather than grinding a million enemies to level up to fight a boss. That being said witcher 3 is one of my all time favs as was AC before it went to crap.
Looks like a great looking game for me to watch someone else play. I’m just too old and uncoordinated enough to play these soul-like battle scenes. I even tried Elden Ring a few years ago because it was “supposed” to be the “EASY” version of that genre, but quit after dying 4 bazillion times in the 3 hours of gameplay.
RPG’s rarely have dialogue options that actually alter the outcome of the game… the games core storyline rarely changes based on you selection, seems most of the npcs have 2 responses based on your selection then the story cares on after that… I have played a few where it can change character progression, maybe get an alternate ending… but most it’s just the npcs reaction to your dialogue selection
It’s a mistake not to let the player create their own character with their own class. If they have all those movesets, they should just break it up into multiple classes and put in a character creator. Either that, or they need to do some serious work on this main character. He’s not really jumping off the screen as an interesting main character to me. There’s a reason why Dante, Snake, Lara, Nathan, Geralt etc are recognizable with one names–It’s because they have a unique look to them. This “Scottish gentleman who does things,” isn’t hitting the mark. And if he ain’t hitting the mark, he needs a redesign or the game needs a character creation. I’m thinking the reason they aren’t doing that is because they already have that feature in Black Desert. And to put that feature into this game, it would basically kill their cash-cow game. Black Desert makes money, bro. A LOT of money. And its main selling point is the Character Creator.
Im way more excited for it. Im tired of everything having to be “more realistic” give me big flashy moves, fast speeds, insanely, impossible feats that you cant do in real life. I want my character to jump 20 feet in the air and move impossibly fast. Make my character feel like a article game character.
Overall I like how it looks especially since its a super manly dude using a Nordic round shield. Hopefully it has beard hair & other cosmetic choices. As for the graphics, it don’t know how i feel about sparks flying off every sword slash, but meh. I will say one glairing thing I dislike, why does all the metal, armour and metallic objects look like they have zero texture on them? Is it a design choice? Art style? Anyways it definitely doesn’t look very polished yet, and probably your right Caz, it may need to be released in 2026.
Seems like they’re kinda “reining it in” to be something more feasible/polished and perhaps going to focus down and hopefully release a good action/adventure game something akin to wukong or dmc.. but with a more medieval fantasy inspired story/setting. Probably have a bit more storytelling than a souls/wukong. Wonder if it still has some kind of quest structure?
A question I have (and haven’t found an answer to, yet) is: will you have different movesets/classes in the game? So far I’ve only seen articles of combat with a sword and shield. It does look good, but it’s a bit lackluster compared to some of the visually impressive classes in Black Desert (I know they are different games but it’s the same company and I thought it was in the same universe).
the fact that it a single play game it rare, the only way this game will get ruin if the game got bunch of microtransactions and loot boxes, like if you want unlock a certain area or want the best of the weapon got pay money, thank god it get made by a Korean studio, so we probably get a full game, and I hope this game got either your choose matter, or you get your own base and can upgrade yourself and your companions which you are looking for
Gameplay doesn’t look that impressive, the UI is hideous and whose genius idea was it to keep the mini map visible while in a boss fight? Why only boss fights? What happened to all the cool mechanics they showed before? The cutscnes leave much to be desired as well. So far ive lost excitement from this game after seeing the bland unoriginal battle system and dragged to death copy and pasted distracting giant health bar on top of the screen with hideous basic UI.
Seems very much like Black Desert Online combat, down to unlocking moves. I haven’t played BDO in a minute, but I loved the combat in it. From what I’ve seen of Crimson Desert in the trailers we’ve seen, it’s got a lot of BDO all through it, like game play elements stripped right from BDO. Maybe iterated on after that, but it’s all there. I’m really lookin forward to it. I won’t pre-order, of course, but give me that big BDO world, systems and combat in a SP game? Yes, please!
Welp if there is little to no rpg mechanics (character customization or impactful choices) other than boss fights than the replayability factor is doo doo. Tbh, this looks like just a refined version of BDO combat which is good but nothing amazing (yeah it has no lock on feature too in BDO). I’m already seeing reused assets and moves from the game. Welp, imma keep my hopes up until release. We’ll see. And classic PA, too many fcking particles flying around. For what it’s worth, I have 10k hrs in bdo. yeah, fuck me mate. No longer playing for a year tho.
40 or more bosses, please. Varied, intricate, memorable boss fights are amongst my favourite aspects of a article game. Combat here looks satisfying Kinda wish there was a character creation with a few different RPG backgrounds & races to choose from. I love being able to play as a nonhuman. Glad to see there are orcs. Hopefully there are even more NPC races, bcuz my fav stories have diverse casts. I prefer when important roles aren’t being predominantly played by (white) human men. Makes things more interesting when there’s variety 😄🙏🏽
I LOVE the aesthetic and how grounded the movement looks, but I am not a fan of this kind of combat. It’s fight in an arcade like Streetfighter or Mortal Kombat, but not this kind of game. Sekiro did have combos, but how often are you using them? It’s probably the least utilized feature for most players. Before you jump in saying, “well I used combos all of the time in sekiro,” be honest. Did you use them your first playthrough, and if so, when did you start? Remember, most people do not finish games. A significant amount more do not do a second playthrough. You would be the minority of those who make up FromSofts revenue.
Black Myth Wukong, Stellar Blade, Crimson Desert, Where Winds Meet… I feel like we’re at the edge of an Action Game Renaissance. We’re FINALLY inching away from every single game with a sword being a “Souls-like” (which i do also love, but it’s all a bit much anymore). Now if we could get an honest to gods new Ninja Gaiden…
I feel like everyone think this to be an mmo of sorts but this is just a souls game and if it do got multiplayer it will only be lobby based like all souls. This is a single player rpg with possible co op mode more so then it was ever an mmo and that is fine but I dont care about souls games and I only care about mmos so I am just tired of hearing hype as if this will be the next big multiplayer game. No this will just be another of the many souls games for people that enjoy those games. This will not be a next gen mmo now just stop pushing this nonsense lol. Tbh I think its a super good idea to make an adjacent genre game. Like this really could bring in alot of new people to bdo just by getting them into the world of it. Like maybe after they beat the souls game they go play the mmo after type deal but I just find the people thinking this is bdo 2.0 to be so uneducated and annoying.
Looks good I hope it doesn’t take until summer 2026 to come out maybe a nice November/December 2025 release. I just hope the main story is great and long, that the main character/side characters are good /likable, the romance is much more flushed out (Like a Witcher 3/Mass Effect) combo and that it has a great or at least satisfying ending. It would be nice to play a game where you care about the characters and the story has soul.
No character creation is big disappointment, especially since it’s made by same guys that gave us game with some of the best character customization options. Feels weird tbh. I like being able to make my own character and just have them explore the world. Not a premade character. I like Witcher, but as someone who likes to tinker with it, and played Skyrim, Cyberpunk 2077 and other games that have character customization, i feel disappointed.
The control scheme, requiring multiple button presses to perform essential moves, is a deal-breaker for me. I was hoping for something more like Valhalla or Odyssey, where you can set up your moves or skills and then execute them smoothly. This sounds clunky and seems to demand a high action-per-minute playstyle, which isn’t my preference. Thanks for pointing that out in the preview!
For me personally this is a NO-GO. As someone who personally likes, the consequence of choices, the grind for certain builds, the multitude of abilities(not just slasher wise, a stun, a spell, something), flashy executions this to me looks like something i would get bored off. To me this is like a flashy boss fight simulator. If you are into this kind of game that’s perfectly cool, but it’s kinda bland that i cant do anything else just do a backflip slash, than a frontflip slash, a cartwheel slash, and so on (you get my point.).
Pearl Abyss gas nailed the combat system for awhile now. Black Desert Online just puts to shame other MMO’s combat systems. It’s not even close. So this game having a unique feel to many isn’t surprising. I figure veteran BDO players will feel at home still. The only problem many Pearl Abyss players, Black Desert wise, are gonna have with this game is…no sexy Barbie dolls to run around in a bikini swinging a massive death weapon of death.
Thank you very much for this coverage. This is nothing like the game that they have been advertising. I am very disappointed to hear that this is just yet another ARPG that falls on the curve between a souls-like and God of War. On top of that, it sounds like they went for a broad range of skills rather than a tighter more customizable set of skills so you are inundated with buttons to press. As a K&M PC player, I find that especially bad. There is nothing wrong with ARPGs and I really love the genre. I was just getting a very Witcher vibe from what I had seen before, but now it feels more like a hodgepodge of different directions that will be another jack of all trades and a master of none offering.
As I thought, this game has more in common with The Witcher 3 than it has with Elden Ring or any souls-like. But for the button combination for the attacks and moves, I would prefer it to be more like Dragon’s Dogma, where you press L1 for example, and it “remaps” (for as long as you keep pressing that button) the four main front buttons (■▲● x) giving you plenty of options to combine attacks. I wonder if it will have a limit to limit how much you can spam certain attacks. Also, I agree that there are so many things that are still uncertain or still in development, that I don’t think this game will be released in 2025 at all.
If cant create my own waifu then it will be a huge disappointment, along the lack of customization (equip, skills, glamour) and not boring sidequests. Im not interested in boss fights, this should be a rpg, explorations, find treasures, do fun sidequests, interact with the world (pet and carry animals) and so on, the same stuff I seen on the first article minus the sidequests. If i wanted a only boss fight game at this point would just play street fighter… we will see because I were waiting this game since the first article they showed. As a BDO player Im expecting way more.
can you explain why you needed to dedicate ANY time at all to nitpicking the difference between a “move” and a “skill”. I mean…. really dude. it gets the point across either way, I’m not sure what we’re accomplishing here by taking issue with their choice of wording. Is anyone going to completely misrepresent what they think they’re getting in the game based on this one difference which is pretty arbitrary? A move could just be a skill that you learn. A skill could be a move that you learn. You reviewers just be on some weird shit sometimes.
Idc about character personalization and I like the idea of an action combat gameplay but with difficult mechanics, something it’s difficult to be good at, games these days are absolutely too easy like god of war for example. That’s a boring arcion rpg (gameplay wise), shiny yes, but easy and boring. This one looks amazing. The lack of lock on makes it more difficult but also more realistic and mastering it will probably feel so good.
I think people use the term “character creator” too literal. I’d say Assassin’s Creed games, at least the later ones, like Valhalla and Odyssey have a form of character creator. Yes, you can’t pick your name, and there is a general template, often with a male and female option, but the character is completely customizable aside from their set dimensions like height, weight, and size. But hair, eye color, tattoos, miscellaneous scars, gear appearance, gear in general, are all customizable. Same with the original Fable games. Not quite a full character creator, but it feels like one. You could even make an argument for San Andreas. Yeah, it’s Carl regardless, but you can customize his size, hair, and even his fighting style beyond just the outer appearance. Most games with character creators let you choose a name, then give you a generic moniker that’s used in games like “Boss” in the saint’s Row games or just a text answered sentence by a silent character that the NPC responds to with something like “hmm, that’s a good name.” Skyrim comes to mind. So a fully customizable preset character is still very much along those lines in my opinion. Eivor was just a character at first in AC: Valhalla, but, now I am Eivor.
Honestly from what I’ve heard and seen of the combat/gameplay is that it seems similar to the new God of War games. They are considered action adventure games with some lite RPG mechanics that allow for upgrading various abilities and equipment. If Crimson Desert can scratch that same itch then I am 100% on board.
Thanks for sharing this, now know that although it looks beautiful it’s a pass for me, I can barely keep up with pressing sequence of single buttons in games, so multiple bottoms pressed at the same time as well as sequential, yeah hard pass. The game would have me rage quitting, and no I can not “get good”. Sorry my money will be going to games I can handle a little better. 😁
from how you described the combat, it sounds basically like Black Deserts control scheme. was KB+M controls available as an option? because the input for it feels a lot more solid and natural on kbm than it does controller due to how bunched up the buttons are. Also while the game no longer has much to do with BDO, i think it’s important when doing previews to go in with some knowledge of BDO since early in development it was intended to be a prequel mmo. while this has since changed there are a lot of design mechanics clearly present that came from BDO.
All I’ll say is, I’m so happy it isn’t a stupid souls-like, getting real tired of those, seriously they started to oversaturated the market, every fantasy open world game now is always having souls-like combat, so it’s refreshing to finally have an open world fantasy have gameplay more in common with hack n slash.
I’m more than skeptical. A game announced 5 years ago, 2 years before its release date, produces such media hype. It looks more like some Kickstarter or preorder scam. Stop propagating this game and similar shit. I’m not interested in knowing about games without a firm release date in the near future because even these can change.
can’t wrap my head around the fact that if I understand correctly, this is supposed to be a free to play, single player action rpg. How is that supposed to work exactly? How are they going to earn money? With an in game shop? What’s the point of that in a single player game? After checking out this review my main concern is that they are going to hide content, moveset or something like that behind a paywall, making the game a bottomless money-sinking pit.
We need a regular action game. The RPG combat system can be annoying Nd frustration for those who are used to DMC and ninja Gaiden style mechanics. I like being to hit a button and the button have an instantaneous response that happens on screen. If I want to dodge half way through a combo I’m in the middle of doing I should be able too. Nobody out here trying to do because the mechanics of the game are too lazy to adjust to real time reaction. With m out getting to specific lol
Dang no character creator? That was one of the things that I was most exited about when I heard that the creators of Black Dessert were making a single player game. Seriously kills like half of the excitement that I had for the game I’m not that interested in basic single player action games like God of War for example. I’ll probably still enjoy it but man it seems to have gone down a direction that is completely opposite of what originally had me interested in the game.
I just get bored with these types of games. Ive played enough articlegames that depth of combat doesnt last long and the writing/dialog is always terrible. Character variety and customization is the only thing that holds my interest. Please everyone else buy this so they make another one with more characters or flexibility
When I first seen this game and then it’s delay I knew this game was never coming out. I also felt as though something is off about the game as well. I would like to know why is it extra shaking of the screen when hard attacks are happening. It’s almost as if it’s the FPS dropping or something, but I think it’s the mechanic of the game. I think the same thing is in Black Desert and in my opinion I don’t like it.
PRESSING 2 BUTTONS AT THE SAME TIME FOR A COMBO MOVE IT MUCH EASIER THAN MULTIPLE SINGLE BUTTON COMBOS…I DON’T THINK THERE’S GOING TO BE ANY ISSUE WITH THAT…I THINK AN ISSUE OF, LIKE YOU SAID, JUST BEING THROWN INTO THE GAME WITHOUT ANY PRACTICE OF IMPLEMENTING THESE MOVES SLOWLY OVER THE GAME…
Lack of a character creator in this game feels like a huge missed opportunity to me. I don’t mind playing a single player game as a locked character, but when they already have such an in depth character creator at their disposal it seems really weird to not use it. Seems weird that Star Wars Outlaws didn’t add one too, considering a bunch of their recent games like AC and Far Cry included one.
I’m still interested, but like you mentioned it does seem a bit confused. Four boss fights is a weird option for a preview. And it’s all good for a game to be more narratively driven but do we have any confidence in their writing? I’m definitely taking a step back from this one to see how it all plays out.
Well it looks good, and it looks like it might be good to play, but like so many other demos and previews of other games that looked good and looked like they might be good to play…. where are they? When is it going to be available? We’ve seen all kinds of big promises over the last 4 years, and we’re still waiting. Maybe it’s just me, but the whole gaming scene just doesn’t seem anywhere near as fun as it used to be.
Honestly i would have liked a char creation but ok, thats not a big letdown, tbh i expected one… but what is a letdown, is not beeing able or rather not having more classes, i loved the clases in black desert, especially the mage ones with their flashy skills… I expected a game more like black desert SP game but this feels more like a witcher kind of game and that does not mean its a bad thing, no character creation means they can focus on developing this character (like geralt) and not having more clases doesnt mean something bad as well, would love to use some magic here and there or even to be wrong and there are different classes via weapons like in elden ring ect.. Still an amazing looking game and im gonna play it for sure!
In the 50 minute gameplay demo, I got the impression that the game world/map will be pretty huge, and we did see some kind of questing, though it wasn’t exactly clear if that was a main story quest or a side thing. Hard to imagine such a large open world being empty with nothing out there for players to explore. Excited to see what ends up happening with the game
Black Desert style controls with parry and block mechanics. Tbh I’m getting less interested as more is revealed. Character creation is almost a requirement for me nowadays. It seems that all these games are becoming so similar that it feels like the same game over and over. This one being soulslike boss encounters with Dragons Dogma elements of climbing enemies.
