Can Radiant Spells Be Used By Necromancers?

Necromancy is a powerful spell that can be used by DMs to prevent rampant necromancers or countermeasures to spells like Conjure Woodland Beings and Conjure Minor Elementals. As a player tool, necromancers often use radiant magic to take down undead, as it heals them. However, there are few leveled necromancy spells that can kill creatures, and many of them are weak.

Necromancy spells can be used for saving lives and causing life-draining necrotic damage. The number of spells available in D and D 5e can make it difficult to choose the right one. Necromancers are typically anti-radiant, so if a necromancer wants to deal radiant, they should consider how they plan on achieving that.

There are two types of necromancy spells: those that raise the dead and those that create undead and deal necrotic damage. Radiant damage deals extra damage if the stat block says “vulnerable radiant”. In D and D 5e, a new school would be based on the positive material plane, life-giving magic, and radiant-related abilities. Necromancy spells can be used for saving lives and causing life-draining necrotic damage.

Radiomancy (moving healing/radiant spells to a new type) is another option for necromancers. These spells manipulate the energies of life and death, granting an extra reserve of life force and draining life energy from enemies. A necromancer who uses their powers for good instead of evil, such as raising the dead but leaving them free will, can effectively use their powers.

Who can beat Necromancer?

The Necromancer is an Unholy/Eldritch boss that appears in the Ruins. He is a reanimated scholar who collaborated with the Ancestor and was murdered. After the Ancestor’s death, the Necromancer and his apprentices took over the Ruins, using their magic to bring corpses back to life as their servants. The Necromancer starts in position 1 and creates skeleton enemies in rank 1, pushing himself back until he is in position 4, where his attacks no longer spawn anything.

To stop the Necromancer from summoning a minion in a turn, stun him or have three existing ones. Corpses do not block this ability, as they will be replaced by newly summoned skeletons. The Necromancer has no weighted skill selection or targeting, making his series of attacks effectively random. The Crusader can use Stunning Blow to stop the Necromancer in his tracks.

Is Necromancer better than Sorcerer?

It is a fallacy to assume that sorcerers receive three times the damage from their skill tree as a necromancer. In fact, a necromancer can gain more damage multiplication from their bone ossification key passive than from all their frost passives and key notables combined.

Could a necromancer control a vampire?

Necromancers have an inherent ability to control the dead, including raising zombies and vampires. They can animate a vampire’s corpse in the daytime and control them even in the night. However, most necromancers never achieve this. Marmee Noir, one of the first necromancers, ordered the hunting and destruction of all necromancers to prevent them from gaining control over vampires.

Anita Blake, one of the most powerful known necromancers, has a natural instinct to raise centuries-dead zombies without human sacrifice. She can heal any signs of decay or injury in the corpse and control them. In Bloody Bones and The Killing Dance, she raises vampires as if they were zombies, a rare ability. In Blue Moon, she realizes she has some control over Damian. In Affliction, Anita can raise entire cemeteries to create an army of zombies. In Dead Ice, she learns to control ghouls up to a point, and in Crimson Death, she weaponizes ghosts.

Who is immune to radiant damage?

The monster manual does not list any creatures that are resistant to force damage, immune, or vulnerable. Force damage is the second-best way to deal damage, and magical weapons are effective because they avoid the immunities and resistances that many creatures have against nonmagical damage. These weapons are often more effective in martial games compared to normal bludgeoning, slashing, and piercing.

However, only one creature is resistant to magical weapons, and none are immune or vulnerable. Magic weapons are the most reliable damage type in the game, so it’s important to consider how they may affect the difficulty of the game when choosing a magic weapon.

Do necromancers use charisma?

Charisma is a spellcasting ability used for Necromancer spells, allowing you to use it when a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. You also use your Charisma modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a spell you cast and making an attack roll. Starting at 1st level, you can use your life force to animate recently slain corpses and control the undead. You can raise a dead creature as an undead creature controlled by you, but it must be raised for an hour.

You can also attempt to bind a wild undead creature under your control by making a Charisma saving throw against your Spell save DC. If successful, the creature is brought under your control indefinitely, but cannot be bindned to someone else.

  • Cause Fear is a favorite of mine that I don’t see terribly often. The frightened condition is a useful one to pull out as a caster because the target cannot approach the squishy wizard that way. Sure, it allows repeat saves, but those saves are at the end of the turn, so even just failing once allows you to maintain range for a full round. The spell also upcasts nicely as each spell level allows an additional target.

  • Hey Lee. where’s the dancing mirror images of you? 😅 1. agreed with bestow curse being underrated. save or suck or not, non-concen control spells is a premium. this is underrated because it can be cast as a 5th level spell without concentration. this is also on my list of top 5 underrated necromancy spells. 2. the main reason why shadow of moil is underrted is most people forget the offensive benefit, being heavily obscured also means you attack everything at advantage. this is essentially a better version of greater invisibility. oh and you can’t be targeted by sight spells either. this is also on my list of top 5 underrated necromancy spells. I’ll share my 3 underrated necromancy spells. 3. inflict wounds- most people underrate the amount of dmg this can do as the most damaging one-hit single target striker spell. that dmg can be boosted further by touch of death or path to the grave and even assassinate. 4. summon undead- the ghost is an underrated control spell. frightened on every hit is great in combination with upcasting it for more attacks and using dissonant whispers/command on enemies in melee with them to trigger opportunity attacks for them. 5. soul cage- this is underrated because the trigger is limited (dead humanoids). however, if you’re evil or constantly fighting humanoids this is great because it’s great for action economy (reaction) and stays active for a long time (8 hours) without concentration. it provides a variety of benefits such as healing and advantage for combat and an arcane eye-like sensor and divination-like effects for out of combat.
