Oltgar takes up residence in the Aeorian ruins and finds a bunch of aoermatons who are searching for purpose. He enlists their help to make toys, and utilizes ancient magics he found within the ruins to help him to preform heretofor unheard of feats of transportation magic that allows him to teleport all over Exandria to deliver toys to all the “Okay” girls & boys & broodlings. But the magics take a long time to charge, and he can only preform this task once a year.
Everyone is (rightfully) talking about the hilarity of Santa-Oltgar and Fearne, but can I point out the beautiful RP by Christian in this episode, during the dream sequence and waking up? His acting is really top notch, he’s just so in the moment it’s a pleasure to watch. This man is a critter who is having the time of his life on the show, love to see it!
This is peak D&D. The gods are in mortal danger, enchantments and spells are failing and the world is on the verge of collapse, but here we are saving a single toy shop from a fire bug infestation, making Ghost Busters references and a Santa Claus origin story cannon, throwing a polymorphed giant spider off a cliff, and Lil Jon-ing our way to the king and queen. 😂😂😂
this episode was a rollercoaster… you have been summoned by the king and queen for possible rewards and maybe a wayback to rest of the gang but first we need to squash some bugs turns out child labor is also involved and a possible assassination plot and it ends being a christmas episode during easter and Fearne almost yeets a baby bug from the top of a mountain
I just realized what FCG reminds me of: Keyleth. Specifically Keyleth in the first half of the campaign. He has the idea stuck in his head of something that he thinks he has to be, and is constantly trying to embody that something, but he doesn’t have a single damn clue how to actually do that. So he ends up trying way, way, WAY too hard doing things on a purely performative surface level, and ends up doing a terrible job because he’s always acting the way he thinks he has to instead of just doing what he should.
I’m curious how long they’ll focus on this side of the Bell’s Hells. I presume at some point we’ll go back in time and spend a few episodes with the other group (perhaps with their own guest stars?) and both sides will eventually converge and there’ll be a massive reunion orgy. OK…maybe not the last part but with these guys you never know.
I can’t believe it took me this long to figure out why Sam always has such giant cups to drink out of. It’s because he plays small races: first a gnome, then a goblin/halfling, and now a small Aeormaton. He’s role playing that his character is drinking out of a large drinking vessel because that size of drinking vessel would be considered normal in the hands of a medium sized character.
“Is it Thursday yet?” Dear Matthew, it has been “Thursday” for me exactly 200 days in a row today. Ever since I got addicted to The Legend of the Vox Machina series on prime and binged the whole series. After this I had to find out what it was based on and started arbitarely on episode 100 of campaing 1. I have been playing catch up ever since and averaging 1 episode every day. I mean _every_day_. Im still trying to catch up but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel that is being on top of campaing 3. This time has been magical and I am deeply invested in the future of Exandria and its heroes. Thank you Matthew Mercer for opening this world to us and speaking it into existance. Thank you Aabria for expanding this world with ExU and Kymal. Thank you Brennan Lee Mulligan for showing us the Calamity. Thank you to the cast for giving us unforgivable stories and characters, some of which have made me cry more than I would like to admit, I am talking to you Sam and your incredible usage of the Wish spell. 18:13-18:35 Imagining this moment in the eventual BH animated series (I’m manifesting) where it’s played totally serious and normal, but then a thickly outlined flatly colored Deanna inexplicably pops out of frame and says “kill him,” the art style of the scene changes to match Deanna for the gag of Chetney gutting the dude, only to rewind back into the standard art style and continue like nothing happened.
The hilarity would have been that Fearne tossed the larva off the cliff into the thick forest below… where it crashed into the ground in front of the Minotaur and reverted back to the large killing machine and the two ended up in a battle to the death. Fearne: Uh… oops. :: Wanders back inside the city. ::
I’m only just past the break but Matt looks really nice in this episode, he looks very happy and overall very cute (and attractive, not gonna lie). Not that he doesn’t otherwise, but idk, it just stands out tonight! Great episode so far, they look like they’re having so much fun 🙂 Edit: finished the episode, such a fun one, definitely the one I enjoyed most in a while! And maybe I’m just hormonal from time of the month but man Matt is really fine this episode, just the entirety of it, even while playing bloody Santa. How (because he’s amazing, that’s how)

I haven’t been able to watch any of C3 yet, due to moving and renovating our first ever home, and I am absolutely awed that Matt has my favourite bands t-shirt on, Heilung. Like CR, Heilung have done so much to help me, and see Matt in this, I can’t tell you how fucking great it makes me feel. Good news is I’ll finally be in a position to able to enjoy C3, and I can’t wait for it all!!!

I’m just gonna say, Matt is never gonna be rid of the T-shirt bit from Sam. Except, in Campaign 3, it’s now become the “Flask and T-shirt Bit.” And I can just imagine Matt pulling a deadpan Monty Python line by saying, “And then Sam’s character had a heart attack and died.” Sam then says, “FCG doesn’t have a heart, though!” And Matt finishes it by saying, “You thought he didn’t have a heart. He does now,” and the Matt laughs in “DM Villain” mode.
Wow finally caught up again. So I’ve been a fan sense early Critical Role, I think the Chroma Conclave attack had just happened when I started. I had been perusal more or less weekly sense. (Fell off sometimes but I always caught up) Until 2020. Hard year for everyone, I think. I didn’t start back up with them when they did. When I tried to catch up, in mid 2021, I didn’t remember anything that had happened. So I restarted Campaign 2. Now, a little bit over a year later. I am finally caught up to everything on YouTube/podcast. Feels quite surreal. Now what the hell do I listen to while working out?

I’m so ready for the crew to get back together, I got so excited when I saw the intro. I love the other actors, but not over the original characters. I assume the split is because Liam, Taliesin and Marisha are busy with something else, so I’m glad we are getting episodes in the mean time. It just sucks so much perusal your favorite show but your comfort character is gone

I’m loving this experimental episodes with the group splitted in two, and I love Aabria, Christian and their characters, but also makes me wonder. It’s hard to me giving the seriousness it deserves to the apogee solstice when half of the group it’s getting involved in minor fights and quests when they just saw the world is probably close to ending, and their friends are probably in serious problems. I don’t know, the teleportation was cool, but it seems they have forgotten what they have come through. Anyway, it’s great to see more of Chetney’s backstory, and meeting more characters.
Welp, I have found my favorite episode of Campaign 3. I have never seen the cast laugh so much/hard in their main campaign as I have this episode, especially Matt who’s usually very reserved during their fight scenes but was slayed twice by the hilarity. There were so many memorable moments you can’t even claim a favorite one, and you could feel how the cast was loving it at the end. There’s just a different vibe with this group and I’m here for it!
So the world is ending, there is a giant red beam of doom shooting at the moon releasing the god eater, but we are here solving a toymaker issues. I feel like the pacing of this campaign is all over the place, we are 54 episodes in and no real arc has been cleared, while the world ending treath is somehow waiting for them to meet santa.

I haven’t watched the whole episode yet but I feel like Matt might be going towards an industrial revolution story. I mean think about it: why would a world where everything works with magic need industry? Because the magic stopped working for everything one day! Like how they had to replace magic lamps with oil lamps. Plus, he’s talked about wanting to explore different ages within the world of Exandria.
To anyone who was in the twitch comment stream, being toxicly positive is just as brutal as any “hate” comment. Someone saying once that aabria frequently acts confrontational and hostile, not her character, but her because all her characters and NPCs when she DMs have this in common, you don’t need to call that aabria hate. It’s not hating. It’s discussion. Someone even called that guy a racist for “calling black people hostile”. It’s getting insane. You’re not a hero. You’re not woke. You’re being super lame. A lot lamer that the guy who said aabria feels hostile and antagonistic. It’s even more telling that you can literally see some of the CR cast notably cringe on camera at specific points in her lame roleplaying choices. Me saying this isn’t hate either. It’s just not feeling it. That can be allowed. Please stop being comment babies.
After who knows how long, I’ve caught up to the latest episode 😯 What a journey it has been.. I’m gonna miss having the option of perusal it whenever I feel like and dread the words: Is it Thursday yet? Which I for the last few years could happily ignore as I skipped to the next episode 😅 Amazing work through all the campaigns, can’t wait for more !
this is a great episode, but… ugh snare is a 1 minute casting time spell that you use rope to set up a trap… ugh… I mean great idea.. just ugh lol Spoiler… Ashley always forgets she can teleport with Mister… my druid would have moved mister next to the creature, which is next to D and then teleported her 15 feet out of there /sigh… ugh lol
Omg, I had a very long unplanned pause of perusal this campaign and now I am suddenly so happy, jolly even, that it worked out for me to watch this episode just days before Christmas XD …yes, Sam. this episode releases in Dec. hahaha that really got me at the end until I remembered how far behind I am!
