Disney World has announced two major changes to Extended Evening Hours at Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, marking the 50th anniversary of the resort. The new hours will return on January 3, 2024, from 9 pm to 11 pm. Early Theme Park Entry, the newest iteration of “Extra Magic Hours”, is available daily and will be available at no extra cost to guests of Deluxe Disney hotels and DVC resorts (along with select partner resorts).
In 2020, Disney World retired their Extra Magic Hours, replacing them with two new perks for staying on property: Early Theme Park Entry and Extended Evening Hours. Early Theme Park Entry allows guests to enter the parks 30 minutes prior to opening, and valid admission and a MagicBand, Disney MagicMobile pass, or Key to the World Card are required for extended evening hours. The current Disney World Extended Hours calendar only goes through April 4, 2024, with our trip scheduled from April 21-4/25/24.
Extended Evening Hours is a special bonus for guests staying at Disney’s Deluxe Resorts and Disney Villas at Walt Disney World. The evening Extra Magic Hours program allows guests to enjoy a different theme park on specified nights for about 2 hours after it closes. The half-hour early service is available every park, every day for resort guests, and there are also extended evening hours for deluxe resort guests, but those are only at certain resorts.
In summary, Disney World has announced that Extra Magic Hours will be replaced by Early Theme Park Entry later this year, offering guests exclusive access to parts of the Disney Parks.

The operating hours of the facilities in question vary according to the season and the park in question. Furthermore, these hours are subject to change without prior notification and may be altered at any time.
What is the Disney Four Seasons rule?
The 65th Episode Rule, introduced in the 1970s, allowed for a series to be broadcasted for a maximum of 13 weeks, a quarter of a year. This change was accelerated by the rise of dedicated channels like Disney Channel, Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon, as well as more ratings-driven decisions and fewer instances of shows finding an audience despite lower ratings. Additionally, shows were often cancelled before the completion of a current season, necessitating a midseason replacement.
New technology like DVRs, Video-on-Demand, and episodes were also introduced, allowing viewers to watch shows on their preferred schedule. Currently, the number of episodes in a season varies, with 18 to 39 being the current range for a full season. Seasons can be split into two segments, with the second segment being referred to as a half season or a “new” season. These factors make it challenging for modern shows to reach the 65-episode mark and can end with fewer episodes as having more than 65 episodes.
Can you ride Tron during Extra Magic Hours?
Guests who receive a boarding group for Extended Theme Park Evening Hours can still enter the Virtual Queue at 6 p. m. on days when Extended Evening Hours are offered. Individual Lightning Lanes can provide three rides on TRON in a single day. Guests attending Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party or Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party can also get a second boarding group during regular hours. Rider Switch can be used with TRON Lightcycle Run, provided the minimum height is 48 inches. Does Genie+ work during Extra Magic Hours?
Disney Genie+ Service currently operates during regular park hours, excluding Lightning Lane return times during Disney After Hours events. However, Disney After Hours offers shorter standby wait times for popular attractions, such as TRON Lightcycle/Run and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, which will have shorter lines an hour or two into the event. To enjoy the event, queue up for TRON Lightcycle/Run and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in the second half of the night.
Spend the early part of the evening in Frontierland and Adventureland before heading to Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. Arriving before Magic Kingdom Park closes allows for Happily Ever After and Disney Enchantment fireworks on the same night. If you have any questions or suggestions for future Disney After Hours, feel free to contact planDisney.
Is the Disney Magic Hour worth it?
It is recommended that visitors to Disneyland Paris and guests of Disney hotels utilize Extra Magic Time on a daily basis in order to optimize their time and fully experience the bustling area surrounding the castle. To obtain an optimal photographic composition, position oneself to the left of the castle and face it, avoiding the presence of other individuals in the foreground. This allows for a more picturesque experience and enhances the overall experience, thereby providing visitors with a more enjoyable experience.
Can you ride Guardians of the Galaxy during extended evening hours?
EPCOT’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is a new ride that takes visitors on an interplanetary voyage to Xandar, a planet not visited by any other country. The ride begins at the Guardians of the Galaxy building near EPCOT’s front entrance in World Discovery (formerly Future World East). Guests using the standby queue can enter through doors on the left side of the entrance, while those using Lightning Lane can enter through doors on the right.
The pre-show area at the park resembles a cross between EPCOT’s Test Track pavilion and Animal Kingdom’s Dinosaur, with curved walkways around various display items, including the history of Xandar and the introduction of the Guardians of the Galaxy cast. Joining a Boarding Group is the only way to ride during EETPH.

I love the Alan cooking/ home vlogs. Maybe when you stay at a DVC Alan can do some cooking vlogs? Non Orlando folks would probably like to know how easy it is to save money/time by cooking in your room. Love your comedic energy and how well you complement each other. So glad Molly left and started this website!
Thank u so much for always keeping us informed! My sister is your biggest fan and after years and years of her and the rest of the family, searching for you at the parks…. she finally saw you at Seven Dwarfs Mine! She was the girl in red in front of you in the article. I don’t think you’ll ever understand how happy she was to finally meet you! Thank you for taking the time to take a pic with her! Happy Disney days!
This is also available to guests staying at the Swan or Dolphin and at Shades of Green. We stayed at the Dolphin during Christmas and used extra evening hours at Epcot on Christmas Day, and we were able to ride all of the big rides. Remy’s was a walk on, as was the virtual queue for Guardians. And our room at the Dolphin was not all that much more than a room at the Moderate or Value resorts.
💖 Loved the 101 and planning tips regarding Disney Park Extended hours and am impressed with savings that can be obtained at Deluxe Resorts through DVC Rental Store. 🌟 Our family involves ages ranges, interests, abilities and conditions (including Autism) so strategy for us is key to make the trip enjoyable for all – to me the PERKS of park extended evening hours allows the Guest Party to also fit in during the day with park rides: Photo passes, shows, parades, character greets, indoor dining at restaurants and flexibility to choose times at favorite rides with shorter lines – Whoo hoo!! 🎉🥰🎊
When do they announce which parks are open for extended hours? I will be there mid-Dec. and am trying to plan, but without knowing which days MK closes early for Very Merry Party and knowing which days the parks will be open late, advance planning isn’t really possible. I did buy park hoppers, so I can be spontaneous if needed.
I actually would say it HAS wiped out any need we have for genie+ or lightning lanes. My older kids don’t even feel the need to be in the park earlier than noon so we can move around leisurely and hit what we can hit-then after fireworks we get every single popular ride with very little wait. Weigh out the costs ESPECIALLY if you’re going Moderate Resorts usually…they can be $300+ per night and some of the cheaper rooms through DVC rental store are under $300. (Not on holidays though -that’s just begging for high costs AND crowds)😎
We had a very different experience during Deluxe Extra Evening Hours. On our night, MK had fireworks at 9, park close at 10, and extra evening hours from 10pm-12am. After fireworks regular park guests rushed to get in the rides before close, and lines were at 45 minutes to 90 minutes beginning at 10pm. This defeated the entire purpose of the extra hours! We went in June. We will not bother with extra hours at MK in the future.
Question. If two people in your party have reservations at Contemporary and the other group in your party have reservations at Art of Animation. Will the Art of Animation part of your group be allowed to enjoy the perks with you? I thought you could in the past as long as they were in your ‘group’ for that visit. Any info helps thanks.
Hey Molly just had to share with you there is a play about the making of JAWS premiering on broadway called the shark is broken, written by the son of one of the actors and based on some of his dads journals from the time and the book Jaws logs. Immediately when I saw the interview with a few of the people involved I thought of you.
Extended hours totally seem worth it if you’re already staying at one of the hotels. If you have access to lower crowds and luxuriating vibes in a park just because you picked a certain hotel, why not??? I’m pretty sure my family and I did this same thing back in the day when it was called Extra Magic Hours. If I ever stay at one of the qualifying hotels again, I’m totally taking advantage!
I just feel Disney is figuring out ways to make all of you spend stupid amounts of money and these corporate heads are just laughing because they know they can get all of you to spend this kind of money. A company that lessens so much has corrupted so much…. Have fun and enjoy it, but it’s really sad perusal articles like this.
