Magic Eraser is a popular product for cleaning various surfaces, including walls, tables, and Gorilla Glue. It is effective in removing nicotine stains, stubborn stains on tables, and even Gorilla Glue. However, excessive force can wear down grout and damage surrounding tiles. To clean dirty grout, use warm water and a medium-bristle brush. Magic Erasers are effective on colored grout without leaving behind stains.
Melamine foam sponges are effective on grout due to their porous nature. They can be used on tile floors, kitchen backsplashes, or shower walls to breathe new life into dirty grout. However, they can wear away quickly and flake when used under pressure. Magic erasers are safe to use on dirty grout, but they may rip through the grout quickly.
Magic erasers are generally safe to use on tile and grout, but they can permeate or etch materials fast. Proper magic erasers are great, but they should be used light in small areas. Magic erasers can be used on shower screens, shoes, car interiors, and grout, but they can also discolor or etch materials.
There are many DIY solutions for cleaning floor grout, including using a melamine foam sponge and using a medium-bristle brush to scrub the grout until the grime magically erases away.

What do professionals use to clean grout?
Steam cleaning represents a highly effective method for the removal of grout residue without the use of harsh chemical agents. Professionals utilize a steam cleaner with a nylon brush attachment to dislodge dirt and particles that have become embedded in the grout, thus obviating the need for manual scrubbing. The fundamental procedure entails utilizing the steam setting, scrubbing in a back-and-forth motion on a limited area of grout, and removing the accumulated debris with a microfiber cloth as the process progresses.

Magic Eraser should not be used on surfaces that are shiny or easily scratched, such as wood, stone, marble, granite, and technically painted surfaces. It is important to exercise caution and conduct a patch test before using a Magic Eraser on these surfaces. It is not recommended to buff marks from car exteriors with a Magic Eraser, as it can result in more damage and higher repair costs. Screens, cell phones, and laptops should be protected with a screen protector.
Non-stick cookware, particularly non-stick frying pans, should be avoided as the chemicals from the coating can leak into food. Stainless steel should also be avoided unless there are minor scratches.

The Magic Eraser is not suitable for surfaces that are painted, varnished, polished, or easily scratched. It can scratch faux marble, acrylic surfaces, plastic surfaces, linoleum floors, wood floors, stone, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, furniture, and highly polished or shiny items. The Magic Eraser is used for cleaning and removing soap scum, marks from flat paint, splatters inside the microwave, dried paint from baseboards and stair risers, sticky/dusty range hoods, limescale buildup from faucets/fixtures, stains from toilet seats and hinges, melted plastic from glass stove tops, tile and grout, hairspray build-up on countertops and vanities, and soap scum and gunk from bathtubs. To use the Magic Eraser, only use it on non-scratchable surfaces and shoes without a high gloss or sheen, and try it on an inconspicuous spot first.
How do you clean grout without destroying it?
Grout on tile floors can be easily cleaned by scrubbing with a cleaning solution and hot water. Hand-scrubbing or using a high-powered floor scrubber can be effective. Various solutions, such as baking soda, vinegar, OxiClean, and bleach or hydrogen peroxide, can be used to clean and sanitize tile grout. Epoxy grouts are easier to maintain over time and require less scrubbing maintenance. For tiled areas with high foot traffic, rubber-backed mats and rugs can be added to workplace floors.
These mats and rugs can be placed in areas like front entryways, refrigerators, and sinks, preventing dirt accumulation and requiring less scrubbing and cleaning over the year. It is important to be cautious when choosing solutions for traditional cement-type grout.
What cleaners are bad for grout?
To properly clean tiled surfaces, use a broom or towel to collect loose dirt and avoid using bleach or ammonia products. Chemical cleaners like Tilex, Soft Scrub, Scrubbing Bubbles, or ammonia products can cause grout discoloration. If using a neutral pH cleaner, ensure it doesn’t damage the grout. It’s recommended to clean tiled surfaces every one to two weeks and avoid damaging the grout. If mold or mildew accumulate on your tiled surface, don’t attempt to scrub it off. Mold or mildew growth is an indicator that it’s time for grout regrouting.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS! The ceramic tile floor in my kitchen was embarrassing but trying to clean the grout with chemicals and a drill brush took hours and was exhausting. Right after I saw this article I went onto Amazon and purchased a steam cleaner similar to the one you talk about in the article. I just cleaned the grout on the floor in my kitchen and it did an amazing job! THANKS! THANKS! THANKS!
Ok we have been trying spot testing every product possible on grout we have 2000 sq ft house with white tile and white grout and I don’t want to pay a fortune for a company to do it. After trying all the ways including my steamer – Microband 24 hour multi cleaner won! It is white again so that I can now seal it! I can’t believe it – I would have never guessed!
Hmm, watched a bunch of articles on how to clean my shower wall tiles today, and was shocked by your floor test. I wonder if it’ll be the same with the shower. I actually have a steam cleaner I don’t remember last time I used, but maybe it’s time to drag it out instead of trying these chemicals or home remedies…

This is not a commercial, but as a fellow sufferer, I wanted to share my success. I have been a type 1 diabetic for coming up on 43 years and also have Gastroparesis and went through many unplanned hospitalizations and other treatments, but I was fortunate to find a great doc who was involved in a study to impact as gastric pacer (basically a pacemaker for your stomach) and it changed my life. If I were her, I would look into this. Mine is made by Medtronic and I have had zero hospitalizations due to Gastroparesis since the first implant in 2005 and highly recommend it!
I have tried so many products on my floor grout, especially where the dog runs in and out of the house. My grout color is called parchment, its like in-between a taupe and bone with a salmon undertone. The only thing that has worked so far is Clorex Kitchen Clean-Up with Bleach. Let it sit for 5 mins or so and then use a brush to scrub (I have a long handled grout brush) the dirt and stains away. It’s a bit strong smelling but it works.
I’ve been squeezing water on the cracks with a washcloth and then sprinkling comet on the cracks and scrubbing them with a denture brush and it’s working great. And, then I wipe it down with a wet cloth and I can’t believe the difference! I still have to finish the laundry room and the hallway. This works better than the methods that she’s demonstrating in the above article.
