Ranger spells are tied to wisdom, which determines the level of spell the ranger can cast, bonus spell slots, and the spell’s difficulty class. They are divine and are not affected by somatic spell failure caused by wearing heavier armors. In Neverwinter Nights, Shadows of Undrentide, a level 4-14 wisdom ranger has no spells or cantrips available in their memorize list. Rangers have access to some, not all, 1st – 4th level Druid spells, but most are not very important.
NWN1 rangers get no specific advantages in ranged combat, aside from access to the Cat’s Grace spell. They are good at dual-wielding without having to use Quicken Spell, Silent Spell, Spell Focus, Spell Penetration, and Still Spell. They cannot cast 0 spells of a certain level per day unless bonus spell slots of the appropriate level are granted by a high wisdom.
Ranger spells are Wisdom-based, so they don’t worry about CHA at all and found no reason to later on. They go for 14 WIS because they wanted access to all the ranger spells. The Cat’s Grace spell is very useful, increasing dexterity, which is useful when using a bow or arrow. Rangers get spells from the Druid spell list, but it is low on buffs (I think they only get Aid and Blade Thirst).
A simple tweak for rangers would be giving them tumble as a class feat and possibly sneak attack every 5 levels or so instead of favored. Their character retains all of their ranger abilities and can still use the ranger cleric spells. The ranger class has never really been about casting spells, but they do fight well but cannot go toe-to-toe with anything.

Are ranger spells divine?
Divine spells represent a potent instrument at the disposal of clerics, druids, paladins, and rangers. In contrast to arcane or psionic abilities, which are predominantly shaped by deities or divine forces, divine spells derive their potency from a divine source.
Can rangers get cantrips?
The Druidic Warrior class enables players to master two cantrips from the Druid spell list, which are considered to be ranger spells. Wisdom represents their capacity for spellcasting. As the character’s level increases, they may replace one of their cantrips with another spell from the Druid spell list. Dueling bestows a bonus of +2 to damage rolls with melee weapons and ranged attacks utilizing thrown weapons.
Do Rangers regain spell slots?
The Ranger table displays the number of spell slots available for casting 1st-level and higher spells. To cast a spell, one must expend a slot of the spell’s level or higher. All expended spell slots are regained after a long rest. For instance, if you know the 1st-level spell animal friendship and have a 1st-level and a 2nd-level slot, you can cast it using either slot. You learn an additional ranger spell at each odd-numbered level, ensuring that each spell is of a level with available slots.

Why do rangers have so many concentration spells?
The Rangers’ potential for power is contingent upon their adeptness in magical skills, and there are only a few offensive options that necessitate concentration. The text indicates that JavaScript is either disabled or blocked by an extension, and that the browser in use does not support cookies.
Can Rangers unlearn spells?
Rangers have a fixed set of spells that they select and can only augment or replace them at specific levels. This is analogous to the abilities of Wizards, Sorcerers, Warlocks, Arcane Tricksters, and Eldritch Knights. In contrast, Paladins gain access to all spells as they level up.
Can Rangers change spells daily?
In 2024, the DnD Core Rules have been updated to focus on spellcasting classes rather than who prepares and learns them. Spellcasting classes can now change their prepared spells and how many they can change at any given time. The 2024 Ranger can now use a Druidic Focus for spellcasting, which was previously an optional feature from Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything. The iconic Hunter’s Mark spell has been retooled to deal Force damage on a hit and augments primary class features like Relentless Hunter, Precise Hunter, and Foe Slayer. Favored Enemy, a 2014 Ranger feature, has seen significant changes, allowing players to cast Hunter’s Mark twice per Long Rest without expending a spell slot, and always having it prepared.
Do rangers need to prepare spells?
The classes of cleric, druid, paladin, ranger, and wizard are required to prepare spells in advance; however, they are also permitted to utilize spontaneous casting. It is only possible for a character to prepare spells that they know for each class. Resting allows certain classes to select their spells in advance, thus ensuring their availability for casting. Each class is required to reserve a single spell slot for each instance of a spell that they prepare.
Do rangers get spells?
In Dungeons and Dragons 5E, rangers use magic by accessing a list of spells at second level, which are derived from their wisdom ability score, rather than a spellcasting ability score like wizards and sorcerers. Their spellcasting ability is based on their wisdom score, which is hashed out in the character creation explained guide. Starting second level with two first-level ranger spells, the total increases as you level up. This allows rangers to cast spells from this list, limiting their spellcasting abilities.
When can you change known spells?
All spellcasting classes can change spells during each level up, with certain classes like Clerics, Druids, Paladins, and Wizards able to change their Prepared Spells from their Known Spells. For other spellcasting classes, one spell can be replaced during leveling up, but Cantrips cannot be replaced. To change a spell, go to ‘Replace Spell’ on the left sidebar, select a spell to change out, and then click ‘Confirm’ to replace it with the new spell.
Do Rangers get healing spells?
Rangers can use healing spells, such as Cure Wounds, which can heal a small amount of damage and bring unconscious characters back to consciousness. Rangers also excel in stealth, with Expertise and high Dexterity, which can be incorporated into their stealth abilities. Pass Without Trace, a useful spell, allows rangers to give a +10 bonus to Stealth checks made by any creature within 30 feet, making it difficult for even the least subtle party member to fail.
This makes it difficult for even the least subtle party member to fail in the game. Rangers can also excel in stealth, with optional rules from Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything granting them Expertise and high Dexterity.

Greetings. I played this game over 20 years ago and loved it. I just found it again. But I have a couple of questions that I hope you can help me with. Tommy is my all time favorite companion. I want to use him again. However, I dislike heavy armor, swords and hand to hand combat (I wish to be as far from my enemy as possible). Can you recommend a build for me where I can use Tommy without duplicating all his weaknesses? Maybe a magic build? Any ideas would be appreciated.
Hello. I didn’t want to write anything in the comments, but still. And why didn’t they build a magic archer through a warrior? Weapons specialization is everything. All I know is that ranger’s damage to sworn enemies flies into the skies at epic levels. I tried to play both ways. It is much easier to pass the game through a warrior. So, you are not limited by your specialization and the damage is inflicted on everyone the same way. And also, the question is: why did you pump the ranger, and not the magic archer, to the maximum?
