Has Anyone Created A Conspiracy Theory Using Crowdsourcing?

A new paper by Robert Gonzalez of the University of California suggests that stereotypes about conspiracy theorists may be incorrect. The notion that Russian nationals meddled in the 2016 presidential election is now supported by evidence-based indictments and U.S. intelligence agency indictments. Crowdsourcing has been proposed as a tool for fighting misinformation online, but its effectiveness remains uncertain. A study on conspiracy theories about the origins of COVID-19 revealed that conspiracy theories began to swirl online within minutes of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

Psychological research on conspiracy theories reveals that they can undermine governments, promote racism, ignite extremism, and threaten public health efforts. The unexplained suicide of Jeffrey Epstein has given rise to conspiracy theories. People sometimes seek simplistic answers when confronted by complex issues.

The term “conspiracy theory” became a buzzword during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the age of information has left us less informed than ever before, creating an environment for conspiracies to thrive. As Twitter and Facebook crack down on spreading baseless QAnon conspiracies, adherents are finding other apps to communicate on. Recent research has produced a significant body of knowledge about the antecedents and consequences of individual differences in belief in online conspiracies. Researchers who track online conspiracies say liberals are now vulnerable to and generating QAnon-like bursts of misinformation.

  • Karl Popper’s “Critical Pluralism” identifies three principles that connect epistemology and ethics through intellectual responsibility: “1) Principle of Fallibility: Perhaps I am wrong and you are right. But we both could turn out wrong. 2) Principle of Rational Discussion: We want to try, as impersonally as is possible, to weigh up our reasons for and against a theory that is definite and criticizable. 3) Principle of the Approximation to Truth: Through such an impersonal discussion, we almost always come closer to the truth. And we come to a better understanding, even if we don’t reach any agreement.” “For they imply, among other things, toleration, tolerance: If I can learn from you and I want to learn in the interest of truth, then I have to not only tolerate you, but recognize you as a potential equal. The potential unity & equality of all people is a prerequisite of our willingness to discuss matters rationally. Also of importance is the principle that we can learn a lot from discussion, even if we don’t reach agreement. For a discussion can help us shed light on some of our errors. Thus ethical principles underlie science. The idea of truth as the fundamental regulative principle is one such ethical principle. The search for truth, the approximation to truth is also an ethical principle. So too is the idea of intellectual honesty & fallibility, which leads us to a self-critical attitude and to tolerance.” – Karl Popper, 1981 Lecture (in German) “Less well known is the paradox of tolerance: Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance.

  • HBO should make their documentary free on youtube so people don’t have to have their subscription service to see it. Netflix made some documentaries free during the pandemic. Beyond that, there are some books that are informative like “When Prophecy Fails”, “Bigfoot: It’s Compicated”, and “Flim-flam” by James Randi which talk about the persistence of false beliefs.

  • if the was two explanation for a behavior one socially acceptable and the other not,I choose the not, and found the truth . This iswhy the college system cannot figure it out, its not that complex, maybe 20 pages of outlines of behaviors and triggers, but to read any of them carefully and test them will make you, the ugliest man in school, because much of it describes nasty, undesirable traits in us,that we would prefer to ignore, and some of it shows in detail how some have the power to control 70 % of the population, robbing them of self will, bosses have it leaders have it, I can’t describe the power of making a whole home of people change the way they think and believe in 3 minutes and seeing the shock on there faces, and then watch as they become my followers, my troops, dam pandemic .

  • 4:28 it’s also about a lack of accountability by media of media of regulators by regulators by and of company’s by and of congress and by and of the American people thats generations old and a permissiveness of corruption and a determination to look for foreign enemy’s eg Russia eg china eg Iran eg Iraq eg Vietnam eg Nicaragua etc etc and a reluctance to be introspective of your own history … and other things to countless to name

  • the way the conspiricies develope, spread, and evolve is like unto how virtual games can be designed to create the new game out of the responses of the game being played … the bs is crowd sourced from its own crowd … multiple trends occupy the media but the conspiricy crowd by it’s choices developes the theme of its evolving conspiricies … and all is a projection of latent fears and lack of intellect … empathy or education …

  • End Times = “Lawlessness increases” and “They want to believe the lies because it’s in their hearts 💕 ” and “They will be lovers of themselves, money, pleasure, lying, cheating, loud, boisterous, arrogant, mean, nasty, vile and despisers of those that do good” sound familiar = READ THE BIBLE = Repent and May God have mercy on our souls and bless you and your family I love you because God is Love so Love everyone just like Jesus Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior said “Love your enemies and pray for those that persecute you “= TRUTH HEAVEN AND HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE TRULY THAT IS MY ONLY GOAL LOVE ❤️

  • I wish my words could make everyone see the truth…logic, reason and rational thinking. Take everything you believe and put it under the scrutiny of your enemies mindset, does it still hold true? There is only one truth, the proof must be met by facts and nothing less than absolute clarity is the goal. Do that, you win. Otherwise, you are just spitting blah, blah and blah. All the best. Cheers.

  • So democracy is “…the greatest form of governance in the world”. That’s an opinion not shared by your last President, or by millions of his MAGA mob fans. A former leader of my own country once famously observed that democracy was the “worst form of government, except for all the others”… but what Winston Churchill should have added was that it depends on certain prerequisites. Those prerequisites would include: 1. that voters have a some basic agreement on how ‘facts’ are defined. 2. that voters understand the difference between a fact and an opinion. 3. that voters are willing to make some effort to inform themselves. 4. that voters are willing to accept the result of elections even if their preferred side loses. It is crystal clear that for tens of millions of people in the USA today NONE of these conditions are met. If a significant percent of the electors do not understand what differentiates a ‘fact’ from a personal ‘opinion’, and are not prepared to learn, and if those same people are not prepared to accept the results of elections unless their preferred candidates win, then the conditions for a successful democratic process do not exist. This is why democracy has failed in so many countries around the world, especially where there is widespread public ignorance, a weak or non-existent free press and media, and where the population is divided between groups with entirely different notions of reality… and these are increasingly the conditions that apply in the USA.

  • Well, that’s a common trope with this crowd: Get someone else to finance your activities and your follies. He kinda learned well, except that the really big fish are still out there, spreading the same lies and adding more every week while our hero struggles and thinks that, any minute now, they’re going to bail him out. Loser. Sucker.
