In July 2000, Taco Bell ended its Chihuahua advertisements and relationship with creator TBWA after same-store sales fell by 6 in the second quarter of 2000, the largest decline in the company’s history. OMG I don’t remember what I was perusal on tv when I first saw this commercial, I busted a gut laughing so hard at the end, unfortunately at that time we couldn’t rewind and had to wait around forever for the commercial to come back around, you kids got it easy these days lol. Reminder that when these commercials ended Taco Bell suffered their worst quarterly loss thus-far. In other words, the Chihuahua was a more effective advertising campaign than the horrible musical advertisements of the modern era of fast food. Also… 99¢ Mexican Pizza at Taco Bell makes me realize just how bad the early 2000s recession really was.

My parents are Mexican and they agree with me that this doggy isn’t offensive to Mexicans or anything. He’s cool, cute and super funny. What’s there to be offended about? Taco Bell should bring him back. No Mexican is going to be like, “This is racist and offensive”. Nope. It’s actually super cool and a compliment. Seriously. Don’t be so serious, Taco Bell.
