How Did The Magician Minister Pass Away?

In the Harry Potter series, Rufus Scrimgeour, a hardened veteran of the Ministry of Magic, was killed by Lord Voldemort during his coup on 1 August 1997. He was captured and tortured by Voldemort for information on Harry Potter’s whereabouts, but refused to divulge any information. As a result, he was murdered at Voldemort’s hands.

The Ministry of Magic was initially led by Pius Thicknesse, who was installed as Voldemort’s puppet. However, after being captured and interrogated by Voldemort, Scrimgeour refused to divulge anything he knew, leading to his murder. Thicknesse was installed in his place as Voldemort’s puppet. The third ex-Auror to gain office, Scrimgeour died in office at the hands of Lord Voldemort.

The cause of death is unclear, but it is likely that the way Scrimgeour was killed was by the Ministry. Death Eaters infiltrated the Ministry of Magic during Bill and Fleur’s wedding, and Voldemort killed Scrimgeour to take control. Once they took over enough of the Ministry, they killed Scrimgeour, giving the cover story that he resigned and replaced him with Pius.

Millicent Bagnold was Minister for Magic by the end of the First Wizarding War. Voldemort’s first downfall came in 1981, as he was presumed dead after the death of Dumbledore. As the British Ministry of Magic fell to Voldemort, the Ministry of Magic faced a new challenge: to locate and destroy Voldemort’s sympathizers.

Is Umbridge a death eater?

In the Harry Potter series, Dolores Umbridge is depicted as an evil, cruel, authoritarian, bigoted, and despicable woman who represents the worst of political power. She is portrayed as sadistic, corrupt, and even found joy in torturing students. Harry describes her to Sirius Black as vile enough to be a Death Eater. Umbridge is also portrayed as prejudiced, despising half-breeds, Muggle-born witches, and wizards.

She fired Hagrid due to his half-giant birth status and displayed intolerance towards the centaur Firenze. Umbridge is a “pure-blood supremacist” who attempts to mask her half-blood status, often lambasting her Muggle mother and Squib younger brother.

Understanding Umbridge as one of the most despised fictional characters, she is known for her authoritarian stance, dictatorial presence, racist attitudes, and torturing of children. Charlotte Ahlin from Bustle compared Umbridge to Voldemort, stating that she was relatable and relatable, making her a relatable character in the Harry Potter universe.

Who became the Minister of magic after Voldemort died?

The Ministry of Magic, a government in the Harry Potter universe, is led by the Minister for Magic and is depicted as corrupt, elitist, and incompetent. High-ranking officials are often unaware of ominous events and unwilling to take action against threats to wizard society. In the Order of the Phoenix, Dolores Umbridge is placed at Hogwarts to monitor events and prevent the spread of news about Lord Voldemort’s return. The Ministry reaches a zenith of corruption before being effectively taken over by Voldemort. In the final book, Kingsley Shacklebolt becomes the Minister for Magic.

The Minister for Magic visits each new Muggle Prime Minister, informing them of the existence of the wizarding world and advising them on situations where the wizarding world may affect Muggles. The position of Minister for Magic is an elected one, with the power to elect or dismiss ministers not explained. Employment with the Ministry can be obtained after completion of a wizarding education, with different offices requiring different levels of education and additional training within the department.

Why did Fudge hate Dumbledore?

Fudge, a wizard, became paranoid about Dumbledore’s interest in the Minister position, rejecting it three times. Despite this, Fudge continued to respect Dumbledore and accepted his decisions. He sometimes went against Dumbledore’s insistence on certain issues, such as sending Hagrid to Azkaban or placing Dementors around Hogwarts as guardians. Fudge gained the people’s confidence by accepting Dumbledore’s advice.

In 1995, Fudge refused to believe that Voldemort had returned, leading to a smear campaign to discredit Albus’s reputation. He appointed Dolores Umbridge as the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher and attempted to arrest Dumbledore on a trumped-up charge.

After seeing Voldemort’s return in the Ministry, Fudge was forced to accept it and reinstate Albus’s reputation. He was kicked out of office in disgrace because he refused to take the steps Dumbledore offered him. When Fudge requested Dumbledore to persuade Harry Potter to lie for his behalf in a last ditch effort to cling onto his position, Dumbledore refused, seeing no more purpose in helping Cornelius.

Did Fudge see Voldemort?

Fudge, a powerful figure in the Ministry, was forced to accept the return of Voldemort and reinstate Albus’s reputation. He was later kicked out of office due to his refusal to follow Dumbledore’s steps. Fudge asked Dumbledore to persuade Harry Potter to lie for his behalf, but Dumbledore refused, indicating no longer interest in helping Cornelius. In 1997, Fudge attended Dumbledore’s funeral, causing Harry to question whether the officials were truly saddened by his death.

Initially, Fudge treated Harry Potter like an honorary nephew, treating him leniently when he accidentally inflated his aunt Marge. This was partly due to the Azkaban escapee Sirius Black, who Fudge believed was seeking to return to Voldemort. However, Fudge was reluctant to reveal Black’s goals and Harry’s importance as Black’s godson. He also refused to listen to Harry and Hermione’s attempts to explain Sirius’s innocence, suggesting they might have been confounded. Harry initially viewed Fudge as a blustering and pompous but good-natured person.

Was Pius a Death Eater?

During the Battle of Hogwarts, Thicknesse was a member of the Death Eaters who fought against the castle’s defenders. He was part of a group of masked and hooded Death Eaters who successfully penetrated Hogwarts and duelled with Percy Weasley. Thicknesse’s hood slipped off, and Percy used a Sea Urchin Jinx to cause him to sprout sea urchin-like spikes. The corridor was damaged in an explosion that killed Fred Weasley. Thicknesse and his comrades later retreated under Voldemort’s command.

When the battle resumed, Thicknesse was “floored” by Arthur and Percy Weasley. It is uncertain if Thicknesse was killed during the battle or just stunned, as Arthur Weasley and the Order of the Phoenix knew he was under the Imperius Curse. After Voldemort’s death, all people under the Imperius Curse came back to themselves, including Thicknesse. Kingsley Shacklebolt was appointed temporary Minister for Magic, which later became a permanent appointment. If Thicknesse survived the battle, it is unclear if he rejoined the Ministry or was incarcerated, as he was acting under the Imperius Curse.

How does Cornelius Fudge die?

Subsequently, Fudge relinquished his role as Minister and facilitated Rufus Scrimgeour’s integration into the system. This entailed introducing him to the Muggle Minister and acting as their intermediary, although the exact scope of his involvement remains undetermined.

Was Fudge in Slytherin?

Cornelius Fudge, also known as Goblin Crusher, was a wizard who worked at the British Ministry of Magic. He was elected Minister for Magic in 1990 and was initially out of his depth, but he grudgingly sought advice from Albus Dumbledore and Lucius Malfoy. Fudge also relyed on his secretly treacherous Senior Undersecretary, Dolores Umbridge. In 1993, Fudge was invited to Hogwarts for the first test of Hermione Granger’s method for “curing” success.

Fudge, always “sailing in the wind’s direction”, claimed to fully approve of Hermione Granger’s method and werewolf rights in general, to Umbridge’s annoyance. Fudge’s past is assumed to be the same as his canon counterpart until 1991.

What happened to the original Minister of Magic?

In 1996, when the wizarding community demanded Fudge’s resignation due to Voldemort’s return, Rufus Scrimgeour was appointed as Minister. Fudge’s love for his office led to his denial, making him one of the least effective and disgraced Ministers in history. Scrimgeour’s term aimed to restore peace and control in the Wizarding World, but was ultimately killed by an army of Death Eaters in 1997.

Thicknesse, appointed as Minister under Corban Yaxley’s Imperius Curse, was appointed as Voldemort’s puppet, with the Dark Lord becoming the true Minister. Thicknesse was responsible for everyday business, including changing the Ministry to suit the Death Eaters’ ideology. Voldemort, however, kept himself hidden in the shadows to create uncertainty and doubt within the wizarding community. Thicknesse’s role as Minister was omitted from most official records due to his subjugation.

In summary, Fudge’s denial of Voldemort’s return led to his resignation and the subsequent appointment of Pius Thicknesse as the true Minister. Thicknesse’s role as Minister was omitted from official records due to his subjugation.

How did the ministry fall?

The Fall of the Ministry of Magic was Voldemort’s assassination attempt during the Second Wizarding War. In the aftermath of this attempt, Rufus Scrimgeour was replaced by Pius Thicknesse, who was later replaced by Thicknesse again.

Yaxley uses the Imperius Curse on Pius Thicknesse, the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, and allows Voldemort to murder Rufus Scrimgeour, making Thicknesse Minister for Magic. When Harry, Ron, and Hermione disguise as ministry officials, they discover Yaxley has become Head of Magical Law Enforcement. He assists Dolores Umbridge in leading the Muggle-Born Registration Commission and has a good relationship with Hermione.

They are immobilized by Harry, but Yaxley recovers and rescues Hermione. He participates in the Battle of Hogwarts, duels with Professor Flitwick, and waits with Voldemort for Harry Potter. He is defeated by George Weasley and Lee Jordan when the battle resumes.

  • I was wondering, during Voldermorts control over the ministry and Hogwarts, why did he never interrogated or killed the teachers at Hogwards? Why are people like Mcgonagall (who uses a muggle name btw) and Flitwick still alive? It’s not like Sneep had any power to avoid their prosecution. And these teachers where friends with dumbledore after all so probably Order members.

  • I think Voldemort was also way to obsessed with Harry. His #1 goal was to destroy Harry Potter. He needed to kill him. It was his soul purpose. But Voldemort’s behavior, his demeanor, his attitude, it was constantly changing. Harry was able to survive the killing curse multiple times. It was Harry’s goal to destroy Voldemort. But Harry did it over hard work and intelligence. Voldemort was so hellbent on his death, he stopped truly paying attention to his ranks and even his own people were fleeing at the site of his survival. Harry Potter is so damn good. It’s beautifully written from the book point of view. And cinematically, it’s great the whole way thru. I love this guys content.

  • The part about what happen to Rufus Scrimgeour in his last few days leading to his death is not in the movie but perhaps in the book or on Pottermore. I do not recall reading this and is missing in my memory. I only recall the final message that was sent from the ministry of magic warning Harry. Telling him that Minister Scrimgeour was killed and the Ministry was overtaken.

  • 2:01 Harry even compares Scrimgeour to Barty Crouch Sr at one point in Half Blood Prince because Crouch and Scrimgeour sometimes imprisoned innocent people they suspected of being Death Eaters just to look like they were doing something. Crouch was right to authorise the Unforgivable Curses against actual Death Eaters yes because it was a “kill or be killed” war by that point but arresting innocents, trying to get Ludo Bagman sent to Azkaban for talking to Rookwood who he didn’t know was a Death Eater just because Crouch didn’t like Bagman and how Crouch treated his son at his trial ruined his reputation. Scrimgeour was similar since he arrested Stan Shunpike for bragging that he knew what the Death Eaters plans were in a pub, tried to get Harry to lie that everything was fine and that the Ministry had everything under control and spent more time trying to open the Snitch Dumbledore left Harry in his will than protecting the people.

  • Ahh! Another enjoyable Harry Potter Folklore article. This is why I subscribed long ago. Keep quality, intelligent, interesting articles like this coming and I will be here for a long time to come.Thank You! I have always been interested as to what type of magic would be used, if any to build Hogwarts castle, and to repair it after the battle for Hogwarts. Could the damage be repaired magically like Dumbledore demonstrated when he found Slughorn? Or does some of it need to be built or rebuilt with hands on labor. Repairing damage magically has been demonstrated by advanced wizards in the Magical Creatures movies.

  • I always imagine the prime minister hearing of the fall of the ministry and promptly placing all military forces in Britain on high alert while the queens guard rushing good old Lizzie to France or Canada. I also regularly imagine that moment when Nevile has just finished his this is not over speech and out of nowhere RAF jets do a fly by. I know i know it’s terrible but i can dream 😉

  • “…a vast majority were found dead all over the country…” Were muggles able to find these murdered individuals? I have heard conflicting opinions regarding Rufus Schrimshaw, (spelled wrong?), being a poor minister. The article does state that he was a, “…renowned aura…” Based on what I have learned he was handed a very bad situation, yet he attempted to solve important issues. Basically his heart was in the right place, but by his time, try as he may, he was out-gunned. In my humble opinion, individuals in such high ranking positions don’t get murdered due to going along to get along. Why was he replaced by a death-eater who was under the imperious curse? Why go so far as to place an allie that must be heavily coerced to follow orders?

  • What pissed me the most was seeing Umbridge enjoying the torment she was inflicting on the muggle born people. Two years before, she was trying everything possible to deny Voldemort’s return. Yet here, we find that bitch working eagerly for him! I believe she knew about his return from the very beginning.

  • Could you do a thing were you make a series were you take your fans characters they made up and their backstories and make a article about it and give credit to them (if you do my idea I dont want credit. PLEASE!) My character is called Emmaline Gracie Florence Anderson a English-American Witch Born in Newt Scamanders time. Her Father Was British And Her Mother American Her Father Died When She Was Four So She Moved To The U.S.A To Her Mothers (did I mention they are divorced) by the time she had met a boy called Newtown Scamander and they became really good friends so when she left to America sad. 16 years later she forgot about newt and took a degree in Magical Defence to become and Auror. Long story short she and newt get married screw Tina this is my fantasy!!! Pls Like so He can see!!🙏 Technically the story line is the Tina And Leta are basically out to get Emmaline (Call her Emma For short)

  • Coup is pronounced COO not Coop, lol, every Irish guy I ever met does the same thing. I personally would prefer words spelled like they are pronounced, such as uneek instead of unique. I suffer from insomnia and have since infancy. It drove my grandparents crazy, but at four years old the really nice lady across the street taught me ho to read and she had already taught me to play piano since she saw I was fascinated by it. Dixie was her name and I did not know she was dying from cancer, but she put her all into teaching me to read and play piano. Teaching me piano started when I was three. I wasn’t a genius at it, but I learned how as much as my little hands could do. I still play for fun, basically all I ever did. Dixie taught me to read telling me, ” iffing I was gonna be up till the moon goes down I should be able to read.”. Dixie taught me my numbers and basic arithmetic as well. She fell real ill right after I turned five. They wouldn’t let me in to see her saying she was to ill for visitors, but her husband Mr. Bill would let me in to talk to her in the evenings. He said I could come talk to her anytime she wanted me too and it could be 4 am sometimes. Poor Dixie wasn’t alone when she died, I was with her when she told me the Lord was there to pick her up, she was very happy and passed away with a smile. I cried for a week it seems like now. July the 1st 1957,. Dixie out of kindness would always let me stay over her house because she knew I lived in an extremely abusive home.

  • The Ministry of Magic (M.o.M.) is the main governing body of the magical community of Great Britain (i.e. England, Scotland and Wales) and Ireland, with the intention of preservation of magical law. The Ministry connects the British government to the wizarding world. The headquarters of the Ministry are in Whitehall, in central London, deep underground. It is headed by the Minister for Magic. As of 2019, the Minister for Magic is Hermione Granger. Each Prime Minister of Great Britain is visited by the Minister for Magic. During the height of the Dark Lord’s power, the Minister for Magic worked with the Muggle Prime Minister to ensure protection for the Muggle world. The Ministry of Magic was formed as a successor to the earlier Wizards’ Council and came into being in 1707. It was involved, in some capacity before its actual formation, in the International Confederation of Wizards’ decision to enact the Statute of Secrecy in 1692 and still today takes the responsibility of enforcing said Statute in the United Kingdom. The laws against magic-use by underage wizards and against wand use by non-wizard folk are also enforced by the Ministry, in part to maintain secrecy. Other countries, such as Norway, France, Germany, Bulgaria, etc., have their own Ministries of Magic. The United States of America is one of the exceptions, given that its governing magical body is instead referred to as a “Magical Congress”.

  • The word “coup” is pronounced “koo,” NOT “koop” as you incorrectly say in your article. “Coup” is an English word of French origin; thus, its terminal consonant is *not* pronounced. In French, “coup” means “cut” or “sudden blow,” which appropriately describes what happened to the Ministry of Magic under Scrimgeour.

  • The fall of the ministry was inevitable – as soon as Voldemort returned at the end of Goblet of Fire, the ministry was on borrowed time. Voldemort must have thought all his Christmasses had come at once, with their totally inept way they managed the magical world in Great Britain. He must have felt, “I don’t have to rush, these idiots are doing all my preparation work for me”.

  • Pure blood supremacy is just so pathetic if you think about it. What harm would Muggle born wizards and witches bring to the Wizarding community? A sense of enthusiasm and unique talent? Acting as mediators between magical and non magical communities to end centuries of conflict? Methinks it is less to do with purity, and more to do with petulance, the idea that even with all their family history of magical usage, pure blooded wizards are pretty much the same as Muggle born wizards, and are no more powerful.

  • I wish while she was actually making these books and movies pictures making an alternate version of it with the original so it’s like here’s the good side this is what happens if the good things happen and this is what happens if it goes wrong you know what I mean she got both sides of the story or two stories and one more or less I guess so it’s like buying a disc or DVD and getting two movies as one go so it’s like the chamber of secrets good version chamber of secrets evil version so it’s like where he wins and where he loses and then the second movie continues from both ends of the movie so it’s like one side of the CD is the good side so part two of the good side and the other side of the disc is the bad so what in Voldemort won for each movie too so it would continue on from The last story so you got two stories in both discs and it would be going on for all of it all the way to the end of Harry Potter so basically seeing Voldemort win in the first movie and then what would happen at the final movie of the series and that would be the evil ending on one side of all the discs and then on the other side would be you know the basic story that we all know on all the discs so that’s what I mean by two stories I should say what if all valdie started winning and kept winning don’t drop all the items so the thing I got to do now with this character is on this way

  • you know wats scary that i ahve a theory harrys son goes after the remaining followers of voldemort and that means long hair jesus lookin guy and silver ponytail guy and few others also he probably discovers their is a whole republic army of darker people then his followers and goes after more than wat we know so far also i have a funny feeling that voldemorts daughter however makes her big army and they start the next bad part.

  • I’m more of Gandelwald fan rather than Voldemort. Even though he was a dark wizard I still love his intentions, but I honestly don’t love his methods to it though. I’d have better methods to that same goal than his, but I’m for the pure blood half blood supremacy while muggle borns would be a respected second class of the society, and their only job is to marry a pure blood to make more half bloods. They can pursue an education if they want, but they can’t forget their societal jobs though.

  • This is the article I’ve been waiting for a long time for you to do. Thank you! My thoughts when it comes to the coup de tar are, when the “old way”of thinking goes unchecked and even celebrated over generations, this can happen. The ministry had no chance from the start to stop the fall. Even if Fudge wasn’t in power to delay the fight against Voldemort, the inherent bias of “pure bloods are better” then everyone else was something that most thought to be true. Even back in the 1920s with the ” sacred 28″ came out, it should’ve been demoralized by the ministry due too It’s inherent bias. The Potter family were pure bloods but their name wasn’t added. My point being, the fall of the Ministry is hard to watch since it can happen in the real world but needs proactive steps to change the minds of the people or it can happen again. I secretly wanted Voldemort to win because I am a Slytheryn and being a pure blood in Harry Potter is like being white in the United States. Something I am not. To have the ability to not experience racism in the community is something I wish I could have.

  • Life imitating art or vice versa? Look at what’s going on in the world today. Total incompetent trolls in positions of authority and Power. It wouldn’t take a rocket scientist to be able to exchange a person in power with one of the Harry Potter characters in this day and time. So which Ministry of Magic will fall first? Over here in America or over there in Europe? And what about the other Ministries of Magic in Japan or South America or Africa or Russia? Whose side will they fall on? Art imitating real life or vice versa… You decide. Was Harry Potter prophesying or what? Just saying… just wondering… just asking?

  • Could you stop using this “flashing” effect, please? It can be dangerous for people (like me) with photosensitive epilepsy. I love your content but now I have no other choice but to only listen. If You could start using other effect I’ll be very grateful. I am not sure if You’ll ever read this comment but I thought I’ll try. Love you and your content. Keep it up!

  • What would have happened after Voldermort gained complete power in GB? Would he have then tried to take over other countries? I’m curious. I wonder what the other countries thought of what was going on in GB. Would muggleborns flee to America or Europe as refugees? (Why didn’t they already during this war anyway?). JK I need you! Explain please

  • I didn’t want Voldy to win except in one aspect. Unification of Hogwarts. The school is so divided that some students were even cheering for Fleur and Viktor to win the tournament. While I will continue to remain loyal to my fellow snakes and defend our houses virtues, I will always wish for a united Hogwarts. I think since Harry’s time, Slytherin has been less separate from the others, so that’s a great start. Keep up the good work my fellow Slytherins!

  • Why WOULDN’T Hermione help out house elves?Like, she is Hermione!!!!! I bet Harry and Ron had a good laugh when they got the news! (Seeing as Ron wasnt fond of S.P.E.W, and harry thought it was annoying but kindda funny depending on his mood) 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 My finged hurts from spamming 😁

  • Not sure if I would like hermione as the minister. While she always had an eye for mistreatment of minorities and even was subject to racism herself, I feel like she has a hang to oversensitize people and with more power she might try to force progressive views onto people, which might not just anger but also villainize people with traditional views. I think she needs to push things like fair payment and equal chances for halfbloods, squibs ect but dont force institutions to hire them for diversity reasons when in an instance there were more qualified candidates available that just happen to be pure blood. I think it’s better for a minister to aim for an equal ground where people have to make comrpmises than having a minister that just keeps pushing their own worldview and try to use their power to make that one become the new norm.

  • Well I have a question Does the wizarding world follow the political changes in Muggle boundaries? Just like before 1921 the republic of Ireland used to be part of the United Kingdom before the World War 1 the austro Hungarian Empire used to exist instead of many modern day eastern European States Besides what happened to the ministries in the colonies when they got independence?

  • There sure is a lot of female ministers of magic. Even going back to a time when woman were sadly only viewed by the vast majority of the entire world (ruled by men) as purely being mothers, wifes and doing household cooking and cleaning. The time frame isn”t realistic. Surely the wizard world wouldn’t be too different from the muggle one with things like this? Especially since many had muggle relatives and neighbours. In the article, at one point, out of around 5 consecutive ministers for magic around the 1800s, 4 were female. I don’t think in the muggle world to this day that a single country has had figures like that. Women were treated poorly back then. I don’t even think there was a single country in the muggle world that even allowed woman to vote in this period, never mind elect them to the highest office in the wizarding world of their land. I really don’t think things would have been too much difference in the magical world comapared to the muggle one. It isn’t exactly known to be progessive. With even in the 20th centur having dementors as guards, house elves as slaves, school punishments that would be barbaric even in the muggle world, bigotry in the form of bloodlines, intense hatred by many against “half breeds”, and others in the magical community who aren’t wizards etc.
