How Do Conspiracies Operate, Mtg?

Conspiracy is a Magic: The Gathering set and format, released on June 6, 2014, consisting of two expansions: Conspiracy and Conspiracy: Take the Crown. Conspiracy is a unique set designed to be played as its own separate multiplayer game mode, with cards that affect the game in delightful, unusual ways. Conspiracies start the game in the command zone, where their abilities affect the game. Some conspiracies contain a hidden agenda or a double agenda.

The Conspiracy Draft format was first introduced by its namesake booster set, Conspiracy, which was cryptically announced through a strange card at the Born of the Gods prerelease events. Conspiracies are not put into your deck, so they don’t count toward the 40-card minimum. Instead, players put any number of conspiracies from their card pool into the command zone as the game begins. Conspiracy is a unique limited format in Magic: The Gathering in which players take turns opening boosters to create a 40 card deck.

Conspiracies are made only to be a part of the Conspiracy draft format and are not legal anywhere else. Some playgroups use them for other things. Conspiracy overwriotes any creature types already on cards, and if you play another conspiracy with one already active, you will get two abilities overwriting the others.

Conspiracies spend the entire game in the command zone, and their effects automatically activate as long as they’re in the command zone. Each player sits around the table in a random order with three booster packs. Packs are opened, and cards are drafted into your card pool one at a time.

Cards with the Conspiracy type are not legal in EDH (they are banned in vintage, and EDH uses that banned list with some additions). Conspiracy was designed as the first ever multiplayer draft format and is released as boosters, each with 10 commons, 3 uncommons, 1 rare or mythic rare.
