In Hogwarts Legacy, you can block and parry enemies by pressing and holding the corresponding button to cast Protego. This base level block spell is acquired early on in the game and acts as a shield block, protecting the player from most hazards. To block an attack, press and hold the Triangle, Y, or X button on your PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo controllers.
To unlock a spell, follow the path laid out by a mini-game, reaching the end before a red mist grabs your cursor. There are 31 spells available in-game, some of which are vital for fighting enemies, while others help you find your way through the dark, unlock puzzles, and even make items vanish before they do.
Protego is the magic version of a block, which can be cast by hitting the top face button on your controller of choice (X on Switch, Y on Xbox, Triangle on PS5) or Q on a PC keyboard. Activating Protego creates a temporary purple shield around your character.
Blocking spells is done like a parry, where you use a spell with your wand to deflect or dissipate a spell thrown at you. It looks more fluid and like using a yellow levitate spell to catch the enemy’s tongue holding it in air. You can combo it with a specific red spell that cuts through it.
In Hogwarts Legacy, you can also use the yellow levitate spell to catch the enemy’s tongue and combo it with a specific red spell that cuts through it. To block a spell, use the spell “Protago” to create a shield that protects you from most spells.
