  • There was a guy in my HS physics class that built a massive capacitor… like 3 feet (1 meter) long. It was similar to EB’s “tiny” capacitor in that it was aluminum foil rolled up with wax paper as the dielectric. He charged it up, and because in and of itself the charging doesn’t appear impressive, he decided to discharge it… himself. It threw him about 7 feet onto the floor. The class was impressed, he was… ‘ok’… and I believe he got an “A”. Come to think of it… that very well may have been ElectroBOOM…!

  • That big shock, reminds me when I was under my desk unplugging a UPS to move it from my old power bar that I didn’t trust and wanted to replace (it was rated for 12 amps, I prefer everything matches or is higher than the 15 amps of a wall outlet due to a fire in the past). The plug was being stubborn and I was twisting my body in an uncomfortable way to access it. To brace myself for balance I grabbed my desk, a steel desk, not thinking as I pulled out the plug and as it came out my finger slipped and touched one of the prongs. I didn’t feel the shock in my hand or arms. I felt it in my chest back of my neck as that was pressed against part of the desk as well and ended up getting kicked back by it. My roommate was a paramedic and I yelled for them to come check me, said I took current across the chest and to give me a check over to confirm that my racing heart was just panic, I was having short term vision issues as well and wasn’t able to move correctly and apparently had slurred speech. They looked me over and then informed me that it wasn’t my heart that had them worried, it was that my breathing and voice told them my diaphragm was still acting up and my behavior meant my brain got some electroshock therapy. Took me 15 minutes to get to normal again. When I went back to work they grabbed a dog chain and forced me to use it to ground myself on the same arm that I was pulling plugs with.

I think this can be easily tested by placing some ‘walls’ between the gaps so that the ionizing radiation cannot get to the second one and so on.   • Here’s a article idea: Build a working hall effect “sensor”. I’ve been wanting to attempt it myself sometime soon, but based on how few results I get when I look online for examples of others making one, it seems like I’m probably underestimating how complicated it’s going to be. I know that it boils down to essentially just measuring a voltage difference across a conductor (or a semiconductor?) when a current passing through it is deflected by a nearby magnetic field. I also know that the voltage difference can be extremely tiny, so some kind of amplifier circuit is needed in order to actually detect anything. I mean, come on, how hard can that be? Right?

  • This actually is a useful tool: using a momentary switch to quickly engage and disengage the primary circuit and two large copper points on the end of the secondary 3/0 wires will make an awesome spot welder (sandwich two thin pieces of steel between the two copper points for a hardcore spot welder.)

  • According to my understanding the limit for this is also on the magnetic body of the transformer that establish the maximum power, so you will never get super high current despite reducing the resistance to the minimum, in fact knowing the fixed power that is valid for primary and secondary is what makes possible we can transmit the power down to the houses, genation at lower voltage and high current what makes the generators physically posible because of the isolation needed for higher voltages, then transformed for transmission to super high voltage but small current which again makes it physically possible due to the losses and thicker cables needed for higher currents, and finally transformed again to a reasonable save voltage for use in the houses 😉

  • After some reaserch, it was obvious why it resonated noise and it was because the Magnetic field is generated by AC, resulting in alternating fields proportional to electrical frequency. TLDR AC allows an oscillating attraction and repulsion field and therefore, forces the metal plates to clash against eachother accordingly, with the noise being generated itself by air oscillations of a frequency so he translated electric frequency into a mechanical frequency.

  • Hey, Mehdi! Late comment on this article I know but I do have a suggestion for this article and maybe it being a new article in the later future. Instead of using copper wire, why not use a lower resistance wire like Nichrome 80 or maybe even stainless steel. If it’s lower resistance you are needing, I think ni 80 would do the trick for lower resistance, high current demonstration as it is much lower than copper. But in saying that, you would probably need some pretty thick ni 80 wire about the same size as said wire in this article. Hopefully this helps if it’s lower resistance you’re looking for.

  • I have also made a high current microwave oven transformer (MOT) with 2/0 THHN wire and compression lugs, with the lugs shorted with some thick ground braid I was able to reach 2023 amps, measured with my HVA-2000 I got on sale a while back. I too wanted to save the secondary, so I cut the welds. I currently use trigger clamps to hold it together but I have designed a threaded rod and unistrut clamp thing to hold it together better. I also might upgrade to 3/0 XHHW and NEMA 2-hole pad copper compression lugs. It’s a fun project to burn, test, and destroy various things, and having access to very high currents without the need for large quantities of power is nice. The output voltage of mine is 1.87vrms.

Try switching the input or output with a timer and see if this thing can make 2 sheets of stainless steel stick together… then see if it can stick 2 copper sheets together. Maybe this can make stainless steel n copper stick. That’d be cool. Especially cuz that’d mean potentially, you can stick copper to lithium cells

(the original one has 20 w 4 amp, and these 20 w 6 amp)…the battery is defective and I keep it in the laptop just to not turn off the laptop suddenly when the power goes out…I tried with a charger with 3 amps but the laptop its work slowly…thanks..

  • “1,00,0.0000,00”? what number is that supposed to be? wih the commas in the right place, (and don’t move the decimal point) you have 1,000. (all the zeros to the right of the point/period are irrelevant. You could put 100,000,000 billion trillion zeros right of the point and not raise the “1,000” so much as the diameter of an electron. IF you are referring to the electrical arc, you don’t need 1,000 amps to get an electrical arc, or even high voltage. Welders get (and maintain) an electrical arc hot enough to melt steel (or any other metal) with as little as 10 volts and 15 amps. 75 to 120 volts and 100 amps (and up) is more common, though, for a hotter arc and more penitration. One of the gasoline powered DC welders I used could do 240Volts at upto 500 Amps. I usually had it set for 90 volts at 110 Amps for the guage steel I was working with.

  • I did 2 turns of 2/0 gauge nickel clad copper with crimped lugs on the ends and got 1.8v @ 1900A with the lugs bolted. I used switch gear wire with hundreds of strands so it would be very flexible, but large car audio wire would also work well. It would trip a 20A breaker after about 5 seconds, so ended up powering it with a 30A breaker and 10 gauge. Eventually made a contact welder with it using an interval timer and a large solid state relay (on the primary side obviously).
