Astrology offers a unique perspective on depression, focusing on the planets responsible for our emotions and feelings. By analyzing natal charts and current transits, individuals can identify periods of emotional difficulty and take steps to mitigate them. Depression in astrology is seen as a manifestation of imbalances in planetary influences, impacting an individual’s mental and emotional well-being.
Astrology has been particularly popular during tumultuous times, with interest rising during the Great Depression. Depression is a common affliction among emotional Cancerians, who often turn to food and fight obesity to console themselves. However, this can be depressing.
Depression occurs when malefic moon or malefic Jupiter seats in the first house or is house lord of the first house. Debilitated Moon, Mercury, and Jupiter can cause a mental imbalance, and a person’s mind becomes heavy when the Moon sits in conjunction with Saturn.
Saturn is frequently involved in cases of depression, especially when it makes hard aspects to the Sun, Moon, Rising, or Mercury signs. Even minor changes, problems, and challenges in life can lead to depression.
Depression can be easily identified from a horoscope, where the first house represents the brain and the Moon is the significant planet of mind. In an op-ed, Ellen Ricks shares how tarot and astrology helped her cope with depression and suicidal ideation. The main reason for depression in these zodiac signs is due to changes in daily routines and staying out of their comfort zone. If Moon, Sun, and Mercury are weak afflicted or associated with malefic planets, they indicate depression.

What astrology placements are prone to depression?
Astrological factors, such as Saturn or Pluto’s placement in challenging aspects, can be linked to depressive tendencies. Individuals with Saturn in the 12th house or afflicted Moon may experience emotional challenges that predispose them to depression. What causes depression in astrology?
Depression may manifest when the malefic moon or malefic Jupiter occupies the first house or acts as the house lord of the first house. In the event that both the moon and Jupiter are identified as malefic in the natal chart, depression and anxiety may precipitate significant adverse outcomes.
What element causes depression?
Joseph J. Schildkraut proposed the “catecholamine” hypothesis in the 1960s, suggesting that depression occurs when there is too little norepinephrine in specific brain circuits, or mania when too much is present. However, this hypothesis has been challenged by researchers, as changes in norepinephrine levels do not affect mood in every person and medications targeting norepinephrine may alleviate depression in some people. Serotonin, another neurotransmitter, regulates mood, blood clotting, and sexual function.
Which chakra is responsible for depression?
The solar plexus chakra is the center of self-esteem and emotions like ego, anger, and aggression. It can cause physical issues like digestive problems, liver problems, or diabetes. Inadequately, it can lead to depression and low self-esteem. When balanced, it provides energy, productivity, and confidence. The heart chakra, connected to the heart and lungs, is the center of the cardiovascular system and is associated with compassion, trust, passion, and love.
Its color is green and its element is air. In imbalance, it can cause anger, anxiety, jealousy, fear, and moodiness. Overactive heart chakras can lead to high blood pressure, heart palpitations, and heart problems.
Which chakra is blocked by anxiety?
The heart chakra, a key energy center in the body, is believed to be linked to emotional and physical health. Research on the role of chakras in anxiety development or management is limited. While occasional anxiety is a natural response to stress, intense anxiety can interfere with navigating the world and relationships. Chakras, wheel-like energy centers in the body, are believed to be influenced by emotions, lifestyle choices, and thoughts. Consequently, experiencing anxiety can lead to feelings of defensiveness towards criticism and personal attacks.
How does depression affect your spiritual life?
Spiritual depression is a condition where individuals feel disconnected or cut off from God, leading to confusion, frustration, and difficulty in finding joy in worship. This can result in withdrawing from the church or religious community, avoiding other members, losing interest in church activities, and feeling as if Bible study or religious pursuits have lost their meaning. Additionally, negative or pessimistic thinking about God or religion can lead to doubting one’s faith and a sense of spiritual hopelessness. These feelings can also create tension in personal relationships, as feeling unable to share their struggles with a partner can exacerbate the frustration and distress.
Which dosha is prone to depression?
Ayurvedic treatment methodology emphasizes the importance of lifestyle and stress management. Kapha dosha, a mental health condition, is exacerbated by tamasic and sedentary lifestyle choices, which are known to cause depression. Sedentary lifestyles, inertia, and excessive sleeping can increase kapha dosha, leading to symptoms of depression and hypo-metabolism. This Ayurvedic principle suggests that mental health disorders (MDD) are directly associated with sedentary behavior.
Studies have linked a sedentary lifestyle to a pro-inflammatory response, further suggesting a relationship between inflammation, depression, and kapha dosha. Psychological distress also plays a role in the digestive system’s ecology, with chronic exposure to inflated cortisol causing permeability and inflammation, both associated with depression. Both Ayurveda and Western medicine highlight a bidirectional communication between the gut and brain, with emotional imbalances disrupting the digestive system and potentially leading to pathology. Stress responses stimulate the HPA axis, releasing corticosteroids, which expose the intestinal wall to cortisol, leading to gut permeability and depression.
Which star is responsible for depression?
Depression is a mental illness caused by the damaged state of the mind, represented by the planet Moon. The Moon is the receiver of everything good and bad in life, and when there seems to be nothing good, we feel gloomy and sad. Combinations of the Moon with other planets can cause mental imbalance, such as Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu, which can make a person’s mind heavy and bring aloofness.
Another reason for depression is when the Moon is in conjunction with Ketu, which represents spirituality and nothingness. The Moon is more prone to depression when it is in conjunction with the planets in the 6th, 8th, and 12 houses, as the Moon is not happy in these houses.
Some Nakshatras, such as Ashlesha Nakshatra in Cancer, can cause emotional turmoil and make a person prone to depression due to problems related to jealousy. Good Jupiter can save a person from depression and many evil effects in life, inspiring them with wisdom, hope, and inspiration. To achieve happiness in life, it is important to respect Jupiter and understand that life is not about happiness all the time.
To manage depression, it is essential to accept that we cannot achieve everything in life and to consult an expert and follow Astro remedies for depression. Keep faith and eventually, you will overcome your depression.
What does God say about depression?
Psalm 34:17-18 states that the Lord hears his people’s prayers and rescues them from their troubles. He is close to the brokenhearted and those whose spirits are crushed. Bible verses for depression can be found in various chapters. Dr. Melissa, a clinical psychologist with 15+ years of experience, specializes in depression, anxiety, trauma, and grief, focusing on improving mental health access and resources. Dr. Dena Westphalen, a pharmacist with expertise in clinical research and drug information, has interests in neurology, oncology, and global health.
How to see mental illness in astrology?
The fifth house of the horoscope plays a crucial role in determining mental disorders, as it signifies fascination, thinking, and logic. Affliction to the fifth house and the fifth lord may indicate problems with the mind’s logic or thinking process. Moon is considered afflicted if it receives the aspect of malefic planets or is associated with malefic planets. If the Moon is hemmed between malefic planets, the affliction is said to increase. The placement of the Moon in the sixth, eighth, or twelfth house is not very welcome and may cause lunatic behavior.
The degree and type of planet afflicting the Moon, Mercury, Jupiter, and the fifth house hold the key in understanding the level of mental problems. If afflictions are in all parameters, help from a psychiatrist may become necessary. Moon under affliction of Sun may cause quick temper loss, quarrelsomeness, aggressiveness, violence, short temper, and acute mental depression. Afflictions of “Rahu” and “Ketu” on the Moon can cause more complications, such as schizophrenia, phobias, suicidal tendencies, and irrational suspicion.
Pischaacha Grasta yoga, where the mind is overtaken by spirits, is a combination of these afflictions. Good mental health is assured if Moon, Mercury, Jupiter, and the fifth lord are well-placed and without affliction. Benefic associations and aspects on these planets also assure good mental health. A strong fifth house without affliction is good for a healthy state of mind.
What religion has the highest depression rate?
A study of 2, 850 North Carolina residents found that the rate of major depression among Pentecostal Christians is three times higher than among other religious groups. The study, led by Keith G. Meador, assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, used data from a large study sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health. The respondents were divided into six categories: mainline Protestant, conservative Protestant, Roman Catholic, Pentecostals (Church of God, Assembly of God), other (Unitarian, Jewish, Greek Orthodox, Muslim), and no religion (those who had no preference or refused to answer).
The authors cannot determine if this indicates that Pentecostal sects attract more depressed people or if the prevalence of depression reflects a franker acknowledgement of emotional difficulties among Pentecostals.

Thank you for this Amanda, Mychal and Team AH. It validated what I thought. I think so many astrologers avoid these topics. I’ve had my chart looked at, and nobody has ever mentioned depression or anxiety, ever, but they are so obviously there. I wish there was more conversation and less avoidance of the difficult topics. It’s really great to focus on the positive… yes.. but it’s so very important to validate the difficulties.. or people are left feeling only half seen.. and wondering why they have struggled so. These are the people I attract… and these are the people for whom I would do anything to help. More of this, please. Out in the open💕🌊

A key point he makes – Differences between traditional and 20th century astro: Signs are not here to be mastered. They are just qualities of expression for planets. The planets are the main event. perusal transits supports this point overwhelmingly. Signs are a footnote. There to indicate strength and dignity but not more than that.
So true !!! About Ascendant conjunct Uranus !! I have this within 1 degree (in first house of course) and my early childhood was so unstable !! Airforce brat and parental divorce early, and 18 different schools by the time I graduated high school ! ! ! And biting my nails (nervous, anxious energy) ALL through childhood and even into adulthood ! !
Lovely voice, accent, graceful manner- but he is overly focussed on some of the positively challenging relationships of planetary energies eg his cosmic toilet bowl theroies really need some thoughtful balancing conceptua understadinding ..his libra ennergy must be terribly afflicted, because it is strong but unbalanced!!!
