The Paladin table outlines the number of spell slots required to cast spells, with expended slots regaining after a long rest. Many spells require concentration, so it’s important to consider how to boost Con saves. Paladins can concentrate on one spell at a time, but non-concentration spells can be cast while concentrating. Paladins can prepare and cast based on their level, Charisma modifier, and oath.
In Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition, Paladins can choose and use the best spells for their character, including essential, situational, or optional spells. They can optimize cantrips, buffs, healing, and smite. The paladin spell list includes optional spells from Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything and Unearthed Arcana.
DnD 5e Paladins get 2nd-level spells at 5th level, with Aid being one of the best 2nd-level spells. Most Paladin spells are concentration spells, which are bonus action spells that can be cast without concentration. Starting at 11th level, Paladins can maintain concentration on up to two spells at the same time, but neither spell must be higher than 5th level.
The point of concentration in the game is to limit the number of spells or enchantments active at any given time. Paladins can cast 4 first-level and 2 second-level spells before running out of slots, and cannot cast any spell that was not active at the time. A single character can have more than one spell active at a time, but a single character cannot have two or more concentration spells active at once.
