How To Create A Python Mystic Potion Ball?

The Mystic Potion Ball Python is a sought-after morph that can be highly variable, ranging from striped to almost completely patternless. It is an incomplete dominant mutation discovered by Anthony McCain in 2005 and alters both color and pattern. The Mystic Potion is a co-dominant morph, with the Mystic Mojave being the primary source of its color. The Mystic Potion is a ball python that is a combination of purple, pink, and white, with a narrow white broken or solid stripe down its dorsal and blue eyes.

The Mystic Potion and Phantom are practically just different lines of the same gene. The offspring from a pairing with the Mystic Phantom will produce Mystics and Phantoms. The Mystic Potion Ball Python morph encompasses a wide range of variation, with some specimens having clean stripes and others being more patternless.

The Mystic Potion Ball Python is a popular choice for breeding, as it is a man-made combination of both the Mojave gene and the Mystic gene. Breeding a Mojave BP to a Mystic produces a similar snake, while the Mystic Potion is a co-dominant morph.

The Mystic Potion Ball Python morph encompasses a wide range of variation, with some specimens having clean stripes and others having more patternless patterns. The WOB Genetics Wizard allows users to select any basic gene for both male and female, calculate and see the possible outcomes.

  • My banana phantom female has almost zero “ripe” spots but she’s only about 450-500g. She might have 2-3 that aren’t any bigger than a scale. I didn’t think I would like the spots at first but I’m kinda hoping for that additional visual character along the way now. Makes them all unique. She’s probably my most finicky eater Id say right now. She’s a sweetheart though don’t think she has ever taken a snap at me feeding response or otherwise. Thanks for another awesome article.

  • Quick question for ya, if I breed a ball python that contains the hidden gene woma gene to one of its babies will I get the same issues as if one were to breed spider to spider(I know it’s a lethal combo). I’m just curious because I there’s a baby on morph market I’d LOVE to have, it’s a pastel hgw Mojave fire yb female and I want to breed it to my male coral glow poss mahogany and eventually breed those babies back to the mother(if he’s a male maker). I just worry that I would end up with a bunch of dead babies, or babies with severe wobbles. My assumption is that it’s a similar situation to the spider since it’s in the same complex. I just thought I’d ask! I hope what I’m trying to ask makes sense… 😕 I just needed some insight

  • Would the all white be 50% het pied? And if so could you line breed it back to the pied parent to possibly have some of those purple colors come through? Or would you continue to produce the white bp because the mystic cancels out the other coloring? Or possibly a grey head since the Mojave gene seems to be strong?

  • Howdy y’all! Lilith’s first clutch was just as massive as she is – 15 eggs! One was non-viable, but out of the 14 eggs that hatched we got 5 mystic potions! • gorgeous gal! have you considered moving her to a larger tub? this big sweetheart deserves a lil more space to explore and stretch out ! this is w no malice at all, she may prefer a small space! just an observation. i also recommend looking into the neurological impact enrichment have on snakes and reptiles in general, poor girl has nothing to do if she wanted to 🙁 but i wish yall nothin but peace and love and i hope yall are doing wonderfully!

  • I’ve got a 14 year old female 4’8 5.5 pounds about as big around as a 1 lb propane tank or bigger after she eats .. those big ol tails haha !! she is moving into a 4x4x3 project i’m working on..i’m certain she’s got some more growing to do !! i rescued her 3 years ago and she’s grown 14 inches believe it or not. Haha very active snake just always so scared of me so hard to unravel from objects to even hold. She is a bright golden and dark dark purple color with the white and black stripes on the belly. found mites recently dealing with that now took her to the vet recently and I heard her hiss for the first time really loud at everyone

  • Wow she’s huge I’m more into Burmese pythons but that’s a impressive ball python. Only reoson we only have 4 ball pythons is I hate snake racks, but at the same time I relieze they don’t do well in an enclosure we’ve tried it here they don’t eat as well, and they get overwhelmed so they do much better in a rack system from my experience I just like to visually see my animals when I go into the room so I got into burms a while back but I do still think ball pythons are beautiful we have a banana pied that is absolutely stunning just sucks I need to open a drawer to actually appreciate his beautiful colors

  • Shes a big beautiful snake and what a beautiful pairings you don’t go with breeding colonies or like multiple females or like some things like making rivalries or competitions between a pair of males to females I know that’s not the case of those snakes species but some herpetologist told me in past times it’s sometimes helps to have a breeding colony for some females not receptive or at times a single male snake for example?

  • That’s the largest ball python I’ve ever seen!!! This should be shown to new inexperienced owners so they can see what the small, harmless, little noodle ball they just purchased, could possibly become. She looks more like a Burmese variation than a ball python lol. A burmese with a BP head. You can see how they get abandoned in Florida and places. Most content creators only show small juvenile examples because they never have them long enough to show the growth. I’ve seen thousands of ball pythons on YT, but never one anywhere close to this size. Its kind of misleading.
