Bone casting is a powerful method of divination that involves using bones to cast objects for divination. To maintain the integrity of your set, you can take your bones to a botanica and ask a Santero or Babalawo to bless them to the Orisha. However, be sure not to copy the bones.
When creating your bone set, start by setting the intention to receive objects for divination and go through items you may already have. This can include bones, tree branches, and other materials. A step-by-step intro to a developed lithomancy system is helpful as it provides ideas for basic bones to include and offers exercises to slowly practice.
Practicing good distribution of the bones is crucial for accurate interpretation. Dropping them too high up will result in a wide spread of bones, while dropping them too close to the cloth can cause confusion. Bone casting is one of the oldest methods of divination and can be a fun and intuitive process.
Creating your own set of throwing bones should be an intuitive process, with the self bone at the center of the cloth. You can use ethically sourced or found animal bones, natural objects like feathers or crystals, and other items to create your set. Cloth is always an option, and many cloths made for tarot decks or casting runes can also be used for casting bones.
Bone/charm throwing requires trusting in intuition, but it can be beneficial for those who are used to more structured systems like numerology, tarot, oracle, or i-Tree. Osteomancy is the art of casting with bones to glean the future and increase intuition. This casting kit features real animal bones, charms, and other items on casting cloth.

You are amazing and I totally admire you! OMGoddess, I started rocking doc Martin’s back in the day also! And now, it’s Harley 😎 Thank you for this article as I received 2 bone sets not long ago and was seriously disoriented just looking at them..heehee. Oh! And the color you chose is perfect! And, I’m glad that your ancestors have your back!!
Peroxide works very well. I cleaned some mousebones with it. An owl eat the mouse and you get the ball. I don’t know if I will use bones, it is a bit difficult to get them. (I don’t eat meat) But I do have some beads made of bones and I have a lot of branches. You give me a lot of ideas for the new year.
I completely respect that you started a dialogue and connection to the toe bones. That was so respectful. I’ve never worked directly with the throwing of bones. I didn’t see the prior one on “how to make”. (So,… I’ll head there next 😁) Such an important thing to test the bones to make sure it doesn’t always land the same each time. I would have never thought of that. I’m definitely interested in the bead-bone-like ones. That’s a cool idea! I appreciate that you demonstrate with the items that you teach. The information is of such value. You’re awesome! Happy New Year a few days early! Blessed Be🧙
