How To Recognize Islamic Black Magic?

Black magic, or Satan, is a well-established fact mentioned in the Quran and the Quranic teachings. It is often attributed to delusions, imaginations, and assumptions in our minds. Some signs of black magic include strong repulsion when hearing the Quran or Athan (call for prayers), episodes of losing consciousness, and epileptic attacks, especially when the Quran is recited. Constant yawning and signs of evil eye are also common.

If someone suspects they are affected by black magic, they should have their symptoms examined by an Aamil (a person with expertise in black magic). The Islamic legal status on practicing black magic is forbidden, making one’s prayer unaccepted for forty days. Sihr (black magic) and the Jinn are most definitely effective, but every illness, discomfort, and calamity cannot be attributed to Sihr as is.

The Muslim’s best protection and immunity against black magic is practicing Islam and reading the Glorious Qur’an, which was sent down as a cure and mercy for believers. However, Muslim thinkers are unclear on how to deal with this superstitious holdover from an earlier age. People who have experienced black magic or jinn possession can refer to several signs, such as dreaming of snakes, scorpions, spiders, blackbirds, crows, dogs, or other animals, seeing black dots or geometrical shapes when awake, and selling their organs to feed their children.

Belief and practice in magic in Islam is widespread and pervasive, both historically and currently. Prophet Muhammad warned against going out of their house when they heard noises like barking dogs or donkeys braying. Both the Quran and hadith make reference to witchcraft, the evil eye, and supernatural beings known as jinn.
