How To View The Magic Eye?

Magic Eye 3D viewing instructions involve holding the center of the printed image up to your nose, focusing as though you are looking through the image into the distance, and slowly moving the image away from your face until the two squares above the image turn into three squares. Magic Eye images may be easier to see when viewed on paper than on a computer screen. The illusion is created by having horizontal tessels with slight variations, which when your eyes focus correctly, produce the illusion.

To view Magic Eye images, move close to the subject until your eyes unfocus, as you need to look farther than the subject (“behind” it). Then start taking it a bit farther. Magic Eye images are easier to see when viewed on paper than on a computer screen. To view Magic Eye pictures, raise your index finger in front of your face, about as far away as you would have the magic eye image. Look past your finger and hold the center of the printed image right up to your nose.

Most Magic Eye problems have to do with the way the eyes work with each other and the brain. To view 3D stereo images, your peepers must work. When you look at a Magic Eye, the patterns feed the brain the depth information, and the brain perceives the hidden picture. If you still don’t see the hidden image, try holding your index and little finger up.

  • A trick I use to see these images is to view these on my iPad or computer, then turn on my phone’s flashlight, shine it at the picture but hold it behind & above my head. Finally, I focus on the light reflecting in the screen and in about 3 seconds the image pops out. It helps me focus my sight on a spot past the image.

  • I didnt see a damn thing. No matter how its explained…its makes no sense. “Cross your eyes and lock it in and then look at it” ?? Wtf. How do u cross ur eyes and look at something at the same time?! “Look over the image bringing it close to ir face and then pull away” again wtf. “Look through it not at it” how tf do u look through something and not “at” it. Oh well. There are better things to do with my time lmao

  • Thank you! I was just reading Bill Bryson’s book The Body, the chapters on the brain in the eye, and I became curious about those Magic Eye pictures that I saw when I was in college. The first article I watched explained “how”it works, but didn’t help me to see it. Your explanation, particularly the part where you hold your fingers up, both versions… That really helped me to get it. Thank you so much!

  • 3:08 The fact that this was definitely not what I thought I was supposed to see and only served to piss me off more.😂 I thought the white lines in the previous image were the 3d things people were supposed to see. Do people legit see a butterfly in the last image? Despite my frustration, I still gave the article a thumbs up

  • Nice ones, being able to see these hidden figures is the closest thing to a superpower, and is something I sometimes flex on my friends who can’t lol. Just make sure to work on your audio, background music has to be just that, background and almost unnoticeable. At the start of your article, the music is about as loud as your voice, you do not want to do that, using headphones when editing is a must.

  • I can & continue to NEVER get there!!! It’s INCREDIBLY frustrating to put it VERY mildly. If anyone can offer legitimate assistance, I’d be MORE than grateful. This is not a joke: I’ve been trying to understand them for years as I want a giant wall poster.made but it seems silly for me to display if even I can’t decipher its hidden image.

  • It took me awhile to understand what you mean and after I understood I realize I used this vision as a kid and forgot about it as I got older I release why I tried forgetting this because it reminded me I can see 4th demtional creaters an it terrified me but I’m older now and I have an understanding of the plains around me now the trick is to do this with sound I thought I was crazy but now things make sense I see the matrix before me

  • I’ve got a bad stigmatism in one eye, and I can still see most images only if I’m wearing my reading glasses, and I’m holding the book at the right angle. Lying face down on the floor works best, which isn’t always easy with a bad back. Sometimes when I try again on images I’ve already seen pop out on a different day, I can’t get the same image to pop out at all, which is really really frustrating and extremely depressing. Makes you hate yourself and your defective body.

  • Wow this was the biggest help I had in seeing anything from these! though I see a 3D mold, like a form your put the shape in. It’s like the imae becomes 3 dimentionally hollow, as opposed to a 3D shape. Is that the proper way, or am I just on the first stages of doing it, and need to get more practise to see the 3D shapes properly?

  • When these became really popular in the nineties, you would see these in malls. I was convinced the people standing around and were looking at the image, were in on it, and they all just said to each other “let’s pretend we see dolphins” beforehand. 😂😂 I still am so irritated I see nothing. Although the tricks in the beginning where you are supposed to see a third finger, do work for me. So then I held my Ipad to my nose and now I have vertigo 😖. And I am still pissed off that my eyes see nothing.

  • The only way I could get to the 3D was to focus on a pen tip in the middle of the pictures then back it away keeping focus on the pen only. Eventually the picture jumps out about 6 inches toward my face in 3D. But I often didn’t see the final picture within the 3D. I got better at it towards the end though. Thank you! Spoiler….a dromedary

  • I am convinced all Magic Eye images are fake and everyone is pretending to see 3D images. Argument 1: No one can show you where they see the 3D image on the paper or screen. If they were real, people claiming to see it could draw a rough outline around the object, but no one can Argument 2: There’s no need for repeating arbitrary patterns for the illusion to work as described. Any image should be modifiable to create the effect, but you only arbitrary somewhat repeating patterns Argument 3: Someone would have created a basic Magic Eye image that’s not a good illusion, but is impossible to not to see. It’s been many decades and no such image exists Argument 4: I can see all other optical illusions and can switch back forth between the different visual interpretations at will. It seems too unlikely the most popular illusion would be the hardest to see

  • Do people still fall for this? Getting people to stare at a screen for no darn reason. I stared at this kind of crap for hours on end 20+ years ago before I finally figured out it was a big joke that everyone is in on. There are no images hidden in any of these. Now I have to run, some friends of mine invited me on a snipe hunt. I wonder what they taste like.

  • I had several of these posters when i was a teen back in the early 90’s. Most of my friends couldnt see them until i showed them the two finger trick. Hold both your index fingers up next to eachother. Now, put a 1 inch (2.5cm) gap between them and look past them until you see a magic 3rd finger. This is how you see the stereogram.

  • To those that can’t do it, literally when you have the stereo gram up on your screen, hold the picture literally right in front of your face to where your touching your nose with your phone, don’t move your eyes and the picture will be blurry, slowly move your phone back without letting your eyes adjust or blink and the stereo gram will slowly come into focus and it will look 3 dimensional it is literally a mind boggle the first couple times you realize you can do this. It’s legit adjusting your eyes in real time to see things we wouldn’t normally be able to!!
