In Skyrim, What Are Apprentice Spells?

In Skyrim, spell tomes can be purchased from court wizards in each city. Higher-level spell tomes are more difficult to find, as each wizard only stocks adept-level spells for one school (Farengar, Madena, and Wuunferth). Once leveled up, you can buy most of the spells from vendors, especially at the College.

There are six magic skills in Skyrim, and most Dragonborn will want to invest time training one or more of these skills. The “next-level” magic spell is often desired when starting off as a mage and leveling up their destruction levels. Ignite, an Apprentice-level Destruction spell, packs a devastating punch, setting a target on fire for 15 seconds and causing damage over time.

Application spells can spawn in the inventory for almost any Court Wizard, with each specialized in a specific skill. Apprentice Destruction is a perk in the Destruction skilltree that allows you to cast Apprentice level Destruction spells for half magicka. The five major magic skills (Alteration, Conjuration, Destruction, Illusion, and Restoration) correspond to the five schools of magic in Skyrim.

The easiest way to level up your Illusion skill is the Courage spell, available from most court mages’ stores. The Courage spell gives you xp and helps you level up your Illusion skill.

The caster must use both hands and remain stationary while casting, but the spell can be interrupted by power attacks, power shots, and dragon shouts.

What comes after apprentice?

The term “journeyman” originated in medieval trade guilds, where journeymen were paid daily and recognized as apprentices, journeymen, and masters. Journeymen could become masters and run their own businesses, but most continued working as employees. Guidelines were established to promote responsible tradesmen and protect the trade and public from unskilled workers. To become a master, a journeyman submitted a master piece of work to a guild for evaluation, and only after evaluation can they be admitted to the guild as a master.

Sometimes, a journeyman was required to complete a three-year working trip, known as the journeyman years. The word “journey” comes from the French word “journey”, which means “whole day”. A journeyman completed an apprenticeship but was employed by another, such as a master craftsman, but lived separately and might have a family. In contrast, an apprentice was bound to a master for a fixed term of seven years, living with the master as a member of the household, receiving most or all compensation in the form of food, lodging, and training.

  • Runes can be fun. I can make a roughly 200% fortify destruction potion and lay down a dual cast rune and lure someone over it by hitting them with an arrow poisoned with a weakness poison that can give them at least a 100% weakness to the spell. Much more if I get off both a magic weakness and elemental weakness on them.

  • @llSeetherll that’s pretty similar to my character, although I use archery and sneak heavily alongside one handed and magic, its a great combo for pillaging random camps and so on (I’m using no crafts so I rely on loot for items), however the diversity means I have to fight more guerilla style in dungeons otherwise I get pwned in an ongoing melee another question, how many companions do you have avaliable? I can only get lydia to tag along atm, the elf archer guy got crushed by a dragon 🙁

  • @jomak222 I have something over 80 atm. There are more powerful spells that cost less magicka, so that doesn’t really change their usefulness. Only scenario where they are usable imo, is before start of some difficult fight, place rune, regen magicka, and while in fight lure enemies to rune. Runes aren’t very good spells, they would be usefull if you could have more than 1 at a time…

  • @ImOutsideTheBox Yeah, it’s my only character. I see no point in making more characters in game like this, especially when the game is out two weeks. I’m focusing on mage playstyle, but i mostly wear light armor and one-hand sword. I either blast enemies with spells or kill them with my sword if i run out of magicka. Or both, depends on how i want to kill them. 🙂

  • I am currently using a build called a Demonhunter (made by no snakes aLive, on skyrim blog), a crossbow paladin. I use fire runes, and I don’t know how much magicka I would need to be able to dual cast at least 2- 3 runes at a time. I don’t know if I should enchant my gear for extra magicka or cost reduction instead of extra health and archery damage. Please reply.
