To swap summoner spell position, go to the app settings, select “Live Companion” from the left, and select your Default Flash Position. You can also press the arrows between Summoner Spells on the build pages. You can change your hotkeys in the game client and within the League Client Update. The latter allows additional keys that aren’t available within the game client.
To swap summoner spell positions, click the + box on the right of Abilities and Summoner Spells and scroll downwards until you reach Quick Cast With. Abilities, summoner spells, and items can be cast in different modes. Normal Cast: Upon using the key, the range/effect indicators of the spell are shown before casting. All summoner spells, excluding Flash, Teleport, Hexflash, and Mark / Dash, can be used while under the effects of cast-inhibiting crowd control, with the exception of stasis and suppression.
In the Abilities and Summoner Spells dropdown, bind all abilities to Shift plus the corresponding key to see damage indicators by holding the ` key next to the number 1 key. You can use 3 different spells: D and F, but whatever is most comfortable is probably best. Players can choose to individually toggle between Normal cast and Quick cast for an ability, summoner spell, item, or the trinket.
The old mechwarrior games practically had a function for every key on the keyboard. If you have an action that isn’t used very often, you can just assign it when you need it. The easiest way to do this is in the Champion Select screen, close to your Summoner Spells. However, I dislike the keybindings, as they are poorly made by default.
📹 25 SETTINGS and HOTKEYS you NEED for SEASON 14 – League of Legends
What is Skill Capped? Skill Capped has one goal in mind: help YOU become a BETTER player FAST! We create guides that …
Edit: i use space for a-click and f to stop character, rtxc for fkeys, double tap y to lock/unlock would you believe me if i said that i was trying to make this article for my 100k special but i just got so lazy and enjoyed arena too much? anyways, i obviously have to clickbait for youtube but if i had to be honest – the optimal keybinds are whatever works for you. there are objective standards like distance you have to move for each bind but so long as you arent breaking an insane amount of rules like having ur spells on opposite corners of the keyboard you should be fine. dont nitpick my ass im just trying to balance humor/education/punchiness to retain your attention.
I like relating this to something LS said in his man vs machine talk, “are you willing to be worse today in order to be better tomorrow?”. Implicating that you can be at your peak of 200 anything today with your current set up, but are you willing to restart at 50 anything but with the potential to have a peak of 350 anything in the future. After playing league for 13 years with a set up that limits your ceiling, are you willing to start anew with a set up you’re not used to in order to be better in the future? Gotta love starcraft competitive.
I’ve been using this setup for years!! Finally a reliable source to back up my weird play style that I get bullied all the time for. I started playing smite before league so it was always my preference to have my hands resting on the WASD keys. I have one slight variation and that’s I use QEFR for my abilities instead of QERF I see so much of in these comments but it’s still the best way to play for sure!!
I am a drag scroller, which is a type of panning that works while you hold the drag scroll binding, it does require that you turn on the mouse button drag scroll in the game settings menu or else it’s unuseable. Drag scroll actually allows you to keep your cursor in the same relative position. I use my side mouse button and I use a flick technique to perform micro adjustments like how you’re using the individual scroll keys
Bro there’s no way I’m spending the next however many days or weeks that it’s going to take me to rewire my brain suffering through feeling like I’m handicapped every time I need to think hard for 10 seconds straight about pressing the correct key for flash. Imagine having to consciously think about breathing for a few day, that’s what this will feel lole
I was seriously considering WASD camera movement when I got back into League about a year ago, but backed out after learning it was relatively uncommon. Edge panning is natural to me after many years playing the game previously, but it’s such a pain and I’m constantly aware of little gaps in my play when I’m making camera adjustments and trying to fire a skill shot simultaneously. This article convinced me to give a real go at retraining for keyboard camera controls and more efficient key bindings. Hopefully it sticks!
I’ve been using these keybinds ever since this article came out and now my gameplay feels so much better. It was rough at first because I had to relearn the keybinds and I had almost given up, but it was definitely worth it. My camera control and character movement has improved a lot and I have a much easier time aiming my skillshots. Thank you so much!
been using your settings since 2019 or so when your last keybinds article was first made with minor differences like flash on q and r for camera center, genuinely amazing settings ive grown used to and climbed 4 ranks with. back then I played jungle too but now ive switched to adc, and not having to touch the edge of your screen to put your camera where you want it has been a blessing for kiting
I remeber the original article a while back and have used something similar now for a while. I absolutely loved it even if everyone else says it’s phyco. My only change is that with small fingers, I shifted wasd over to esdf for a bit more room, and made my abilities closer as w, 3, R, and ult is on 4. Then q and t are my summoners. I find these keys easier to reach than the whole number row. And because my pinky struggles with reaching the modifiers, i bound ctrl and alt to the thumb buttons on my mouse to offload the effort. Then pinky can focus on tab for scoreboard, a for advanced champion details (showing range) z to toggle target champions only, and shift for items. Also use alt on the mouse button with esdf(wasd) for viewing allies. Love this setup as it feels more natural than mouse camera control.
i use 1,2,3,4 for basic abilities (quick casts) Shift + 1,2,3,4 for normal cast R is for ward. q,w,e, shift + q/w/e for items and flash on D plus other sum on F, i use my thumb for those, i have my attack champions only key on the ` (the thing next to 1) I also have attack closest target on C and normal attack move on A) It will seem very complicated to someone, but i am a World of Warcraft player, this is actually really easy for me to navigate.
Switched to WASD a few years ago when you mentioned it in a article, I had to unbind space bar to fix my camera lock muscle memory. Def would recommend if you are willing to be bad at the game for a few weeks. The biggest downside to me is I hit misclick items when I use shift+1234, so now I use things like tiamat and zhonyas on a mouse button. Also lee sin is a nightmare to play and I sacrifice about 1 flash per week to cold fingers.
Galaxy brain – A side grasp style mouse on Low DPI with a thumb joystick on the top, camera movement directions (arrow keys) bound to joystick directions. It’s next level Viable alternative for people who really hate vert grip mice is a game pad like the Razer Tartarus V2, control the camera with the joystick using thumb of your keyboard hand, it has a button near the joystick so you can still use your thumb for whatever you’re used to like quick-centering or attack moving etc Thumbs are very under-used digits and they have great fine motor control Closest I’ve felt to jacking straight in to the Matrix
I am now four weeks in with these new settings. Camera movement was pretty easy to get used to, but rebinding my abilities, a-move, items, sums etc is super hard. I still fail to find my abilities in high intensity moments and often fail flash etc. I’ll try to give it another month, maybe two and if it’s still hard I’ll switch back.
I had trouble starting playing league of leagues (Playing lol about 3/4years now). Playing on normal sett was uncomfortable, so starting experimenting key bindings. I just accept the camera push. But now I see this salving my camera push problem. This article is so incredible and help me a lot. Also like your sense of humor in the article.🤡
Somehow it didn’t click that you moved your camera control to WASD until you showed your hand talking about the skill issue con of the 3rd method…. I was confused the entire article up to that point because although you clearly said “WASD”, what my brain interpreted it as was “arrow keys” This looks goated and I will be trying to learn it
I never understood the idea of using the pinky finger for Q as it is the most used button and an uncomfortable finger to press it with, so I always kept my pinky on shift, and used E and R with the pointer, and also bound the F keys to ZXCV and use drag scroll for camera with the option that leaves the mouse in the same spot in the map but the camera moves around it.
I also have a pretty psychopathic keybind setup (default one is pretty bad). But I don’t use wasd and already find my fingers overloaded tbh. Also camera movement is really ingrained in you I think, wayyy harder than a normal keybind change, I started getting motion sickness when I tried to use lockscreen.
have you ever thought off having the screen toggle being just straigh up lockedscreen and free screen. This allows you to go through locked screen and free screen al the time and center back to your champion permamently without having to hold the space bar. The only thing is you do still move your mouse more than the wasd set up but you bring so much more complexity to your left hand with the wasd set up, where as the mouse motion can be executed just as fast or faster beacuse you dont have to constantly move your hand up and down. I’ve tried similar options but it just leads to fat fingering keys too many times.
Having moved from playing cs to playing lol a few years ago, I’ve never considered the settings as important to change from the default, because nobody really talks about optimal situations. In cs, you are basically hard programmed to change everything from the default for fear of looking like a noob. (scroll wheel for changing items etc), which means people find their comfort in settings and there are far more variations. (indivudial buttons for specific utility for example) As for lol, because nobody talks about optimal settings and you can pretty much play the game to a high-ish level without messing with any settings. We have gotten to a point where everyone has these terrible habits. I wonder what the percentage of pro players is that use their mouse to move the camera, must be very high. Even though there are issues that I will have by copying your exact settings, I will have a bit of reflection time and find what works for me. Sincerely, Almost default keybind player
i used to to use wads in dota and now league but my hotkeys are f c r and spacebar (yikes i know) the idea is that you can keep your hand on wads and use your abilities with your pointer and dont need to reach up to the number keys for abilities. Im sure everyone will think its wack but its totally worth trying
I’ve been playing on lock screen since I started playing the game (6th season). About 1 – 2 years ago I switched to drag scroll mode, but instead of binding a separate key, I set LMB to drag scroll. I play on a fairly low sense, so this solution was the best. Maybe someone will like it. P.S. I saw ScrubNoob (Rengar Guy) change the camera position using the keyboard, but not sure which keys.
One thing that always turned me away from playing League was the point and click movement and top-down camera, now I finally gave it a try and its fun but I still can’t get used to unlocking my camera and dragging my mouse across the screen to look. You just saved me with this article I didn’t know I could bind camera to keyboard! Not to mention having my hand rest on QWER can hurt my wrist sometimes.
Can you make a full binds article? I’m new to this game, and another article about binds, talks about “toggle stop” and quick casts and shit, and it’s confusing the hella outta me because they use default binds. I genuinely don’t like the camera movement in this game, so binding them to wasd helps quite a bit, im just kinda lost with every other bind. Even if you’re available on discord, I’d appreciate the help. Great article btw, I fuck with the humor fr 💀
honestly been thinking about this too because for a while i was a fixed-camera noob (i just play for fun anyways) but really wanted to get the advantage from free cam especially when i started playing zac (max range E is impossible on fixed cam). at first i used click-drag camera controls because edge dragging with the mouse feels awful (im also low dpi gamer from my experience in tf2 which benefits from lower dpi, but i dont think im as low as you), but after getting a new pc my binds got reset and i couldnt figure out how to get it back, so i started dragging at the edge of the screen with the mouse. my mouse has two scrollwheels, one vertical and one horizontal, so what i’d REALLY like is to bind those to camera movement, but the client doesn’t allow that. i don’t really wanna relearn my muscle memory (ive only been playing for a year so its not that hardset), because like i said im just a for-fun noob so i don’t really wanna suffer for a while when i don’t care about my max skill level that much anyways. my main concern also is having to reset my binds (esp if playing on someone else’s computer or something), so the compromise i think i’ve come to is binding camera controls to SZXC (wasd but shifted down). afaik these keys arent bound to anything (at least that i use) by default, so i can stick to default controls for the most part
Not gonna lie, ive been testin this for 1h. I’m 4 finders player but also i play lot of wasd games. Its soo easy for me to swap from 1234 to wasd. I’ll tell you how i set the game, only thing is that i still dont find how to set S(stop) ————-QWER->1234 FLASH->E SPELL2->Q ATACK MOVE->TAB WASD->CAMERA CONTROL ITEMS->RT56 TRINKET->PRESS SCROLL MOUSE CAMERA ON ME->SPACE I HAVE 4 BUTTON ON MOUSE 1 FOR SCORE OTHER FOR CTR TO LVL UP ABILITIES AND ALSO SHIFT TO NORMAL CAST TO SEE SOME SPELLS RANGE
You forgot about us drag scroll enjoyers – I bind drag map to my middle button and can pan my camera fairly accurately while keeping my mouse in the center of my screen. I’m very used to this motion from working a lot with mapping and design software like Civil 3d, ArcGIS and other CADD integrated programs for design and consulting.
So I have this thing where I use my mouse with my left hand and have my right hand on the keyboard and I’d like to try the WASD binds but I was wondering if they would still be usable in my situation ? Also yes SC2 is free, it’s one of the greatest game of all time, helps with map awarness, APM and all that good shit. I’ve been playing it since 2014 and it’s wonderful, thank you for mentionning it
I see benefits of this, but in my opinion, it would start to shine when you have dedicated dpad under thumb for it like in razer tartarus or azeron keypad.WASD camera can be good setting for some champion but it will still give disadvantage in some situations for example when playing yasuo or fiora pressing W would be faster when finger is alredy on a key. Did You tought abbout using keypad with thumb dpad? I seen only few pepole on yt playing with it setup like that for example “Viktorious” and i think it could be best thing of both worlds (except typing in chat, but typing in chat is alredy not to much usefull thing except typing timers)
coming to league after playing tonnes of mmo’s was a huge adjustment for me, this camera issue was one thing i could not get over so i did the same as you. glad to know im not crazy for playing like this. The only difference for me is that i have have my Q and e on mousebinds and my W on 2 and Ult on E. flash on F and Ignite on r. that’s just what felt comfy for me 🙂 great article dude!
I dont play LoL i play Dota but was thinking of giving LoL another try. I AM SOOOOOO HAPPY you are aggressive about telling people to shut the hell up about “wtf you mean you use wasd to move cam? thats what trash players do” I have the same thought you do about i can quickly and smoothly move my cam where i need to be without mad dashing my fk mouse all over my screen and miss clicking random shit on skill shots. I also play with low DPI from my CSGO era and i cant do the 2000 DPI moving sht around. i like that you showed how much it takes to move the mouse from mid screen to the side. Its nice to know there is someone else out here in the toxic world that understands my frustration with people saying things should only be 1 way because “thats how pros do it”
Don’t think I need to lower my dpi, I play on rly low dpi, got used to that from cs, but I will instantly swap to this, I had NO idea how to change the terrible camera movement, so I stuck to a mix between locking cam and unlocking to push when needed, which is just so annoying to me, THANK YOU! Also, I always miss click sums or items when there is more than one active, so not overloading my finger is a good advice^^
I’m wondering whether it’s not making abilities that require holding (like pyke’s Q, viego’s W, irelia’s W) harder to use? You can’t really move camera once you start holding them or am I missing something? I still think it’s a very interesting way to play the game and I wanna try it but with ASDF to move camera instead of WSAD and leave abilities on their original QWER. Do you think it’s also a good way to play and how long does it take to get used to it?
My keybinds are straight up fcked. I use ASD instead of QWE, ult and flash is on my mouse buttons, x is my other summoner, QWER are my items and I use the numbers to snap to teammates. F is my attack move. Other binds are mostly the same. QWER was too high for me on the keyboard, I mostly played shooters so it was very awkward for me.
The main advantage of this is improving skillshot accuracy, not somehow making tracking a player more easily so that intro made little sense imo. Also if you’re using high dpi to do camera control but miss skillshots because of said dpi that’s just as much of an “skill issue” as not being able to control the camera properly with your left hand. Still, I think this could be potentially incredible for adcs since most of them use skills sparingly and I already use left click to attackmove so I’ll give it a try this split and see how it goes
Ok, that’s great and all, but as a person who plays with camera on WSAD since 2014: you want your summoners on MB4 and MB5. There is literally 0 point in wasting your right thumb as it does nothing. Trinket on MB3, that’s totally fine and correct, although I use mine on ` key. Then you have QE for the most useful and most used items + emergency (Zhonyas) and I tend to have my pots on E. R is for items as well and there’s no point in mapping more, because if you have more than 3 usable items then you’re doing something wrong.
I genuinely love this setup, but I think what’s make this difficulty is transition from wasd to 1234 for spells, but what you said before you “you have the freedom to change your keys” which means I can change to my liking. There’s also my current setup we’re my attack move click is on A now and switching it to space bar (which honestly makes more fkin sense than fkin right clicks) would be difficult to get used to. Idk how will this work if I’m playing Riven tho, bcuz I’m so used to holding my space bar to center so that I consistant fast Qs. I don’t think your setup is bad, it’s very unique in every way, but I’m worried on how some champions function with this setup that has a lot of mechanics, I will still try this cuz the setup is still very cool.
I literally have a trackball under my desk so I can control the camera with my foot. That way I don’t have to relearn my entire keyboard layout while having full camera control at all times. Since I OTP Ryze I only really need my pointer finger to press E or flash. Middle finger for W or Item, and ring finger for Q.
I finally decided to swap to these keybinds 2 weeks ago, been mostly a locked camera player because I found moving it with the mouse really difficult. First few days were an awful adjustment period, having to relearn binds + having to learn to play without locked camera. I’m mostly adjusted now and I think my aim at skillshots has definitely improved and playing champions with longer range abilities definitely feels a lot better. My map awareness got better too If you can get past the first few days of playing with it I think it’s definitely worth. It doesn’t feel good at first, at all, but you will get there.
What about champs where you’re constantly pressing buttons or are just generally mechanically intense? For example, you mash your keyboard on characters like yone, yas, and Riven because of mainly their Qing between autos. Is it not a problem for you to have to move the camera with WASD and mash 1-3 at the same time?
At the beginning of the article I thought this was a meme, and in the end of the article I was just like at the beginning. Jokes aside, ofc each one has his own way to play but it also has to be bind to which champion is used, hard to use your setup in champs where you cannot leave fingers out of some of the skills (yasuo E, Kata EQ, Zed WR and many others) it will make you slower if you have to adjust the position of fingers mid fight/combos! Still good article 🤙👍🏻
I didn’t know this is possible. Like I think I will actually use it. I hate the moving mouse to the edge of the screen, aspecially in lane. Like you want to move your camera to see more and also be able to move yourself to dodge skillshots like illaoi e. And also even barely touching the edge of the screen moves the camera soo fking much I never see what I want to see that’s why I played mostly on lock screen and unlocked it whenever I wanted to see something more. If not you I would never get to know that this is even a possibility
You do not need to unlock your screen. just know where everyone is and what everyone is doing and what spells everyone used at the same time. just assume what abilities people used and hit from their mana and hp and their position over time. i paid for a skin, so i am looking at my champion at all times.
My keybinds are: Abilities: Z, X, C, V (For level-up modifier Ctrl) Items: Shift+Z, Shift+X, Shift+C, Shift+V Camera: W, A, S, D (Shift modifier for spectating allies) Camera lock: Space Pings: Q for Assist Me, E for On my Way and R for Enemy Missing Player Movement: F for Attack Move and G for Target Champions Only I use my trinket on MB3 and Support Wards or Control Ward on my Shift+MB3
just by perusal this I changed to: AWSD camera, E/Q summoners, R attack-move, FVB(SPACE) for abilities, (I already had 2 items in my mouse 4th & 5th buttons), and 1234 for moving to teammates views. Another good one might be: AWSD cam, E/Q summoners ZXCV abilities, BN items, and you free up RTFG for whatever you need, AAmove, stop, etc
bruh, league is just a bad game… what a garbage design, why did this game get so popular… What I don’t get is why TF IS THE GAME CLICK TO MOVE without normal controls as an option…. It’s an action game, ffs, why does it play like an old janky strategy game. the screen is waaaaaaaaaaaay to zoomed in, camera is so insensitive, you have to stop w.e youre doing and drag your mouse all the way to the side of the screen, just to look… it’s absolutely awful…. WHY WOULDNT THEY JUST DO 3d TURNING WITH WSAD LIKE A NORMAL FUCKING GAME
i’ve been considering changing my camera control for a while, i switched to resting fingers on qwer, summs on ` and c atk move on spacebar(thumb can quicky access both) about a year ago and have already spent a while getting pretty comfortable with it. thoughts on tfgh camera controls and relying only on index finger bc it’s kinda useless just sitting on r?
THIS IS MY TIME! I have played with this EXACT setup since season 2. I literally tried to go back to default keybinds and I cant because I’ve spend a literal decade playing this way! Unfortunately, I’m still bad at league…..BUT I love this, so easy to hit skill shots, focus vision in your view area (center of your eyesight), and camera lock gives me a headache how it moves with your champ every time you move.
There’s a lot of League players who couldn’t adapt to this controls. For every mistake you make you correct it. Whenever you hesitate then you’re not learning. IF you play RTS games (Command & Conquer series) as perfect example then you know using arrow keys/WASD. Blitzkrieg series (Blitzkrieg 3) got this WASD setup decent. If you play FPS which uses WASD for character movement and transitioning that muscle memory to camera then its just one easy switch. This is the superior setup in terms of cursor placement if you mastered it throughly. You get an advantage of aiming your shots while having vision compared to moving the camera with the mouse which throws your aim as you move your cursor.
My indicator controls trinkets controls the item active controls E R and Sums(D and F) middle finger controls W 2 and S(for canceling movement comands) my ring finger controls Q and A(auto attack move command no mous click needed) pinky is for Shift and Ctrl my thumb controls camera lock and unlock function with space bar, Alt, X(enemy vision) C(champion range) and Recall sure I have my index overloaded with functions but I grown used to it over the years
Lol I use summoners with my thumb, press E with my middle finger and press R with my index. Maybe I’m not normal but at least I don’t dedicate one finger to 90% of the keys haha I press modifiers with my palm, below the pinky I play with 3200 DPI, which I learned some time ago is the same DPI Faker uses, and I don’t think I’m inaccurate because of it, I’m used to it
I came from dota 2. I played with asdf and then qwer1234 were my items. In dota you can have up to 6 skills and 6 active items on one character not to mention some characters are multiple units. I’m getting to point As someone who has been playing guitar for 10 years my pinky and fingers in general have much more dexterity than the normal person. Running qwer with pinky and alt being my level up key I almost never have to move my hand. I will say I am peak gold player who limit tests every game. I would say in my prime I had above average mechanics but bad decision making which kept me hardstuck. (Just giving context) I don’t play the game anymore but I’m glad your Chanel is getting more light, with how much thought you put into the game for the community you deserve it and more. Get these noobs better nidhogg
This seems much better than fully unlocked with mouse, i always kept playing with “hold to lock” on my spacebar cuz moving cam with my mouse while also fighting just didnt work well for me. might try to make a new acc. with that setup. Probably gonna bind 1234 to my mouse as well so i can focus on the cam movement + sums with my left, and the lower mouse dpi with spells on my right xD
I would love to, but I’ve played lock screen since s3.. but I’ve hyper fixated on constantly checking the map and moving the camera when no action is happening. I watched alot of neace and his coachings whenever he was doing content, and I actually started to play unlocked camera during his first boot camp, I climbed higher than what I had previously been, but that’s nothing special all I had to do was play more than 10 ranked games. What I am getting at, I’m scared to do this xd
I would probably not try this mid climb/mid season. I’d need some time off and definitely some StarCraft or maybe use Stormgate when it comes out to try and implement then come back to League. Interesting concept. I’ve been playing league like this for years so I’ll be skeptical AF but willing to give it a go.
I have been moving the map with WASD since season 2, happy to see more people play like this. Nice to see your variation. I ended up with Q on Q, W as 2, E on E and R on R, map WASD, F on F and Summoner spell 2 on 3…. And buttons 1,4,5,6 are items. And then my scroll wheel mouse button for trinket… incase someone reads the comments and wants to try.
locked camera/camera control in general is probably my biggest pet peeve when I watch others play it’s like do you know how much info you’re losing out on constantly – I play completely unlocked and only tap spacebar to bring me back to my location. hurts my brain to keep it locked for any more than a few seconds. also lower DPI is based I think I’m around 1200 or so (since I still move camera with mouse, need a bit more speed to not grief myself). my wrists would be doomed if I didn’t lower it a while back my personal keybind rule (for keyboard AND controller) is to minimize how much my hands have to deviate from their main position. so I bought a 12 button mouse early in my league career, rebinded the first four numbers to like opkl or something idk just buttons I’d never press lol, then used 1234 to do f-keys, ain’t no way my tiny hands can stretch to the actual f-keys LOL. I binded all of my items, trinket, quick level ups, shop access, warded ping, and dance (most important) to those buttons so I’d always keep my left hand around the QWER area, save for the occasional ctrl or shift press (like 5 = trinket but ctrl + 5 = shop). my friends have often told me I’m insane for “using an MMO mouse for league” but I had no clue that’s the “intended” use of one till years later LMAO. also upped my camera mouse speed a bit so I could have snappier movements but without killing my wrist in the process whoops sorry long as hell comment, passionate about this stuff haha. people should just not be afraid to try things and go outside the default or norm, that’s how you learn what is optimal for you.
10 years strong on the WASD camera! I came into league as my second PC game after Minecraft and WASD just felt more natural when I gave up locked cam. Controls very similar to you except my summs are on 5 &6 and items are q e r t y + mouse btn 4> It’s always super frustrating in my elo (High plat low Emerald) where I have much better awareness than teammates and its probably due to them playing default camera.
Tried the binds. Definitely less stress on my mouse hand. Kept pressing my summoners accidentally in the beginning and still trying to push screen with mouse. Had a hard time finding the buttons I wanted to press. Eventually I got the hang of it. Seems around the same, but I haven’t mastered it yet either. Went to play SC2, did not go so well.
when i started league i actually was looking for a way to move the character with WASD and use the spells with my mouse … maybe if i had found a way to use WASD to control the champion, i’d have gotten used to it and mastered it, but I hadn’t … i know there was a league of legends youtuber who used a trackball … pretty sure everyone using traditional mouse would have trouble with that too
What if you use lock screen, which is pushable with the mouse? Like i am actually right now thinking about it didnt play on pc league in a long time. The camera panting threw me so off. Now i am wondering to i relearn the camera controls with mouse. Or do i use the simpler version with moveable lockscreen. Or do i got for WASD since i am a Warframe hardcore player that could be an easy transfer to. In the old days panting never really thought about it.On Wildrift i am Diamond 2 but i only play it from time to time. What is now the best option for me to since i bascially start relearning it anyways.
Hey Eric I tried out the keybinds for like a week, only fail flashed a few times trying to do a combo written to muscle memory lol I switched back to my regular keybinds, I wasn’t really able to get the hang of it – i think i have shaped my gameplay around controlling the camera with my mouse, and using high DPI. I would recommend this to all new players though, the most beneficial part of the setup in my experience being able to easily reach my f keys. maybe for players like me who are too used to current setup one of those razer mice with keys on it could have potential
I have gotten so used to the controls I have that it would be actual torture trying to unlearn my muscle memory, one of my friends though has been using WASD camera movement for a while since he found the default mouse scroll very awkward as a new player. I had played lots of RTS though before so it was muscle memory and rarely causes me actual control issues 99% of the time.
wanted to try it til i have to move my fingers, i would miss way too much. idk why but all these years typing and playing games, my accuracy has barely improved and i have to correct lots of typos and look back at the keyboard and then the screen. my speed has dramatically increased, so some days when i dont suck im flying but most of the time im noob. fingers stay stuck cuz im rarted. prob try it out anyway cuz i am tired of being textbook high dpi screen mover. only thing i really changed was made my space bar toggle lock screen cuz holding it indeed freak behavior
I’ve always played like this since I started a few years ago, before playing league I basically only played competitive shooters, and I played a lot of those I couldn’t get around moving camera with mouse so I just did what was most comfortable and natural for me, wasd I’ve had the discussion on if it’s better or worse with other players sometimes, they did agree that it seemed really good cause very smooth but I guess having to relearn everything is just not worth it for most players, but I would advice anyone struggling with camera to try using keyboard to move it
Ex-Chall from s3 I always used keyboard for the camera movement and I never ever be so effective with mouse only, but fun fact I also never re-binded those arrow keys for the camera movement cuz I was feeling fine with it even tho its on the other side of keyboard lmao and yea league default keybinds are so awful man xD
When I saw your first setting article years ago, I was obsess with the idea of moving my camera with keyboard, since I was trying to stop locking my camera to get more information, Tobiasfate is one of the lol streamer using wasd for camera movement, after setting up my own key binds I felt more control with my camera.
My hand was actually always tired of going back and forth when moving camera and having to CS at the same time. After this article I jumped into Practice Tool and changed camera to WSAD and spells to 1-4 – couldn’t get used to them so went back to defaults. Now moving camera with mouse feels SOOO unnatural, so im gonna stick with WSAD but now I have to find comfortable replacement keys for spells. 10 years of playing stock settings (tho with unlocked cam and quickcast) went down the drain in 30 seconds xD
You can achieve the WASD setup way easier in my opinion by simply using the “drag scroll” in the camera control section and bind it to some tertiary button on the mouse like MMB or some thumb button. This works pretty well for me in conjunction with a habit of resetting the screen to your position with space every now and then. Benefits are that you don’t have to move your mouse too far away from your character ever just to adjust your camera. Now your cursor will move in the direction of the drag (the same happens with the WASD movement as well which btw only is a rebind of the standard direction key bindings) but you only have to account for that and move your cursor back to your character for more controlled close range movement. You can get rid of this behavior by changing another setting. In the “Game” menu section is a radio box called “Mouse button drag scroll”. Ticking that box will change the behavior of the “drag scroll” key bind to work slightly differently. It will center your cursor on your character and never go away from him. It’ll instead “drag the map” underneath your character so you have to move your mouse in the opposite direction. Try it out and decide which you like best. It basically comes down to preference. As for the DPI settings I will say, coming from an FPS background I totally agree with the notion that lower DPI settings result in more precise mouse cursor placement on the screen once you’ve gotten used to it. Every time you change it you basically have to retrain your muscle memory to it so I strongly suggest using the same sensitivity for your mouse for everything you do like navigating your OS for instance.
I just use drag camera by holding down middle mouse so I dont ahve to go to the edges of the screen. Also I like the jarring camera movement, ik ppl have a problem and why some people cant watch ppl like faker, but I like that camera movement so I like pressing spacebar a couple times during a fight if im near the enemy so that they are closer to the center of my screen
i have basic QWERDF but i have a script so that when i hold down CAPS, WASD become Arrow Keys and use that to move cam (also CAPS function is disabled). finally, i have my lock on team/F Keys bound to ZXCV. the WASD -> Arrow Keys thing is nice too cause i can use them to scrub in YT while i eat or something with my right hand 🙂
instead of wasd would it not be more appropreicate to move the keys over more to something like a esdf or even more like a rdfg as you have more keys to use on both left and right hand side of you keyboard hand? also what makes wasd better for moving the camera then qwer moving back in shooters like cs2 and valorant isnt as much as an option then compared to moving camera down on league. sure it could take longer to learn but you would always have the ability to move any camera direction in an instant instead of wasting time moving fingers first to the key then moving. I also think the speed in which one can move and adjust the camera at a fine level is the same difference as controller anlog stick and mouse for shooters.
hey bro, i don’t realy no if i agre that using WASD is realy a good option, we have a pro player in Brazil called Duds that used to use those and in a lot of times he got in some situations where he just died because of it, in fact so much that it got to a point where his fans almost forced him to change it.
