Tarot cards are a powerful tool for self-reflection and spiritual exploration, but it is important to approach them with caution and respect. Key takeaways include client confidentiality, maintaining client privacy throughout the reading, and showing cultural sensitivity. To interpret the cards, it is crucial to stay calm and focused, as you are privy to sensitive and private information shared by clients.
To read tarot cards, start with a basic three-card spread by laying three cards out in front of you, facing down in a horizontal line. Flip the card on the left to learn about your past, and the middle card to learn about your future. Common spreads or layouts used when reading Tarot cards include laying three cards out in front of you, facing down in a horizontal line.
To respect the Tarot, avoid asking questions repeatedly, understanding what the Tarot does, taking care of your cards, and demanding. Shuffle the cards gently without asking questions or thinking of anything you need it to answer. Prepare a clean and clear area dedicated to your readings, not reading for people who speak poorly of the Tarot. Leave things open enough for the cards to show you what you need to hear, not just what you want to hear.
Spread herbs of your choice in the box or bag to further bless your deck, such as wild crafted sage, lavender, and artemesia. Remember to respect the cards and use them with clean hands and after a good bath. As you start learning, it can be helpful to keep a separate journal for this work, slightly separate from your usual Tarot readings.

Is it bad to touch someone else’s tarot cards?
The rules for using Tarot cards are simple: don’t touch someone else’s cards without permission and set a clear intention before shuffling them. Tarot cards can absorb good and bad energies from people they’ve given insight into, so it’s crucial to set your intentions to protect yourself from negative energy and bad decisions. The cards can open a portal if not used with good intention and protection isn’t in place.
How to take care of tarot cards?
Tarot cards are a divination tool that requires occasional clearing. They reflect, amplify, and mirror energy, making them an extension of your energy. If you feel something is off or your readings don’t feel clear, try a ritual or develop a quick personal practice of regularly clearing your cards before each reading.
Cleaning your tarot cards is essential for maintaining their accuracy and clarity. Your space is an extension of your energy, and if you are sensitive to energy, you may experience a sense of rest and calming when tidying up your space. Clearing old, stagnant energy or unrelated energy allows you to energetically put your intention into them, resulting in more accurate and precise readings. This practice builds a more reliable practice and trust in yourself and the tarot, especially helpful for beginners.
In summary, caring for your tarot cards involves using a reading cloth or wrap, shuffle properly, cleaning your cards, and disposing of them properly.
Should you pull a tarot card daily?
One method of establishing a practice of tarot is to pull a card each morning and record one’s thoughts and reflections on it in a journal. Additionally, touching the cards may prove advantageous. Nevertheless, a more elaborate configuration, such as an Instagram tarot spread, may offer a more visually appealing alternative. A well-executed morning tarot spread is an excellent way to commence the day with a tarot reading, instilling a sense of excitement and anticipation.
How do you cleanse and activate tarot cards?
To cleanse your tarot deck, place it on top of crystals or in a singing bowl to charge it with positivity. Crystals with cleaning properties include selenite, black tourmaline, and black obsidian. Leave the deck in sunlight to draw out unwanted energies. Meditate or knock on the cards to release trapped energy between readings. Arrange the cards in order, starting with the Major Arcana, and shuffle them until new energy enters. Try shuffling the deck seven times for a spiritual awakening or revival. Love tarot? Take a quiz to discover which card matches your personality.
What is the sacred rule of tarot readings?
A group of friends inadvertently contravened the Tarot reading rule by utilising a third party’s deck, resulting in an malevolent entity being imprisoned within the cursed cards. They confront the inevitability of fate and engage in a race against time to evade the future foreseen in their divinations.
What is the unspoken rule of tarot cards?
Despite the unspoken rule against using someone else’s cards, Regal is set to release “Tarot” in May.
Is tarot card reading true?
Early French occultists claimed that tarot cards had esoteric links to ancient Egypt, the Kabbalah, Indic Tantra, or the I Ching. However, scholarly research reveals that tarot cards were invented in Italy in the early 15th century for playing games, and there is no evidence of significant use of them for divination until the late 18th century. The belief in the divinatory meaning of the cards is closely associated with a belief in their occult properties, which was propagated by prominent Protestant Christian clerics and Freemasons.
From its uptake as an instrument of divination in 18th-century France, the tarot went on to be used in hermeneutic, magical, mystical, semiotic, and psychological practices. It was used by Romani people when telling fortunes and as a Jungian psychological apparatus for tapping into “absolute knowledge in the unconscious”, a tool for archetypal analysis, and even a tool for facilitating the Jungian process of individuation.
Are you supposed to read your own tarot cards?
Tarot card readings cannot provide direct answers to every question, but reading your own tarot can help check in with your intuition. Reading your own tarot doesn’t require a fancy spread or elaborate techniques, as most readers don’t do a full Celtic cross or altar setup. Online apps like Golden Thread Tarot can help you read your own tarot cards. If you’re wondering how to do a love tarot reading, you can make it up by deciding what you want to ask and pulling the cards. You don’t need to follow set spreads or follow spreads created by other readers.
What not to do when reading tarot?
Reading Tarot cards can be a powerful tool for self-discovery, but it’s important to avoid making mistakes. Some common mistakes include pulling out the deck immediately after a challenging encounter, choosing the wrong spread, adding too many clarifiers, looking up too many card meanings, and reading about others’ feelings or motives. Additionally, doing multiple readings on a topic in one sitting can lead to frustration and confusion.
Tarot cards and other divination techniques won’t work if you aren’t in a clear state of mind. While it’s possible to read for yourself if you have a preferred outcome, it’s crucial to be in a neutral, calm space to accurately read for yourself. The worst time to do a Tarot reading is when you most want the answer, as this can lead to a more confusing and frustrating experience. Therefore, it’s essential to be in a neutral, calm space when reading for oneself.
What not to ask your tarot deck?
Tarot card readings can be a powerful tool for interpreting the world around us. However, it is important to avoid asking questions that you are not ready to answer, as they may reveal messages you are not yet ready to face. Some common questions to avoid include questions that have already been answered, questions about your future, questions about others, medical-type questions, the same question repeatedly, yes-or-no questions, and future-predicting questions.
To ensure a clear reading, it is essential to know the best practices for asking questions in tarot. Professional tarot readers share their favorite questions they hate answering, which can help you prepare for the best types of questions to ask in tarot readings. By following these guidelines, you can better prepare yourself for the insights and messages that come with a clear reading from tarot cards.
Is there a right way to read tarot cards?
To effectively use tarot cards, ask open-ended questions and keep an open mind. The goal is to gain a new perspective and see yourself or a situation more clearly. To do this, relax and trust your own wisdom. Tarot is a tool to facilitate talking about things, so use language and knowledge that you already have to see it as a tool to facilitate talking about things. The four elements (earth, water, fire, and air) and numerology play a large role in the tarot, as most people already have some ideas about the meanings that can be drawn on. By doing so, the interpretations can be more personal and freer, as it allows for a more personal perspective.
In conclusion, tarot readings are a powerful tool for gaining insights and understanding one’s own perspective. By asking open-ended questions and trusting one’s own wisdom, readers can gain a new perspective and better understand themselves and situations.
📹 Why I love Fake Tarot decks – about knock-off’s
Wasting my manier om een ander real deal parijs die k nee dat hoor iets by buying at least two real deal dr decks en zelf this one …
I am an indie tarot artist and artists who self publish make the art and invest their own money to produce it. They sell the deck in shops and absolutely do make money per deck. They pay their bills with the money and support their families. It is their occupation. Why does society not value artists and their skills. It is very sad.
It is a well-known fact that if someone is buying the $10 deck over the $50 plus deck, they never would have bought the legitimate deck in the first place. There is a trade off that some artists are not aware of… Its a known fact in the book industry that pirated ebooks actually boost their physical book sales buy the old word of mouth marketing. The same can be applied to any artist industry. I have seen many reviews of “fake” decks where, in the comments, people say they love the art and will buy the real deal instead. Some even buy the real deck and then the fake one, so they have the full-size version and a portable version also. Artists, you were never losing sales because people who buy cheap knock-offs were never going to buy the real deal in the first place. Its the sad truth that many refuse out of emotional strife to understand.
I prefer the dupes mainly because of the size. The connection I made with some of my dupes were absolutely amazing based off the size alone… lol. I still try, and support the authors as well when my money is right. The creators should be the ones making the cheaper smaller version of their cards. That way they don’t give that opportunity to others🤷🏽♀️. I actually think it would increase their sells, and keep their money at home. I’ve wasted so much money on decks I never connected with.
I totally understand the price and size thing I really do. I don’t believe that they are cursed as such or that they will affect your readings. At the end of the day it is about intention and connection however, the creator in pure heart and mind created these decks for the spiritual benefit of others. the knock offs are there and only care about money that is made. I would compare it to this…if you had some business…art, candle making, some craft like business and someone came along and copied it exactly as yours…ripped you off and sold it for a profit…how would that make you feel? I struggle with the idea of investing in a business that stole of others?
Currently there is a deck on etsy that I want but in the states its 21$ and converted to Canadian in my province it would be 56$ and some odd cents then add a 20$ shipping fee and add a duty fee, that can be pretty pricey really quick… People should understand that not everyone is willing to blow 100$ on what would be a 20$ deck in another country…. I like fakes cause then it helps me decide if I truly want the real one or if its just FOMO….
So disheartening to see anyone promote theft and say you’re “wasting your money on buying the real deal.” This is not okay. So much blood, sweat and tears goes into making the art and to produce a quality product. Buy the right size if that’s what you need, but it’s not a good reason to send people toward knock offs.
Wow, thank you for a wonderful article! I love to try aliexpress decks to decide if I even want a real one. Too much money wasted on real decks that I never use and it makes me feel down. With ali decks all the joy is very lighhearted. I call ali decks testers or deck samples. It helps me choose mindfully what I really want or not.
100% agree with you. I will use FAKE decks as Tarot Trial Decks. I’ve purchased the original deck after “test driving” the reproductions. Many of the decks that I’ve “test driven” would not have had an original product purchase from me for ($50-$100) without the opportunity to try them first. Also the smaller reproductions are much more portable. if they are lost or stolen from a suitcase they are ez and cheap to replace (though I will call the thief bad names). Thank you for the courage to speak your mind.
You don’t have to justify why you buy anything. It’s easy for some of these people have enough to buy the real thing. It’s easy to be horrified or take the high ground when you don’t have to worry as much about money. So yeah, it’s easy to tell you that you can do with less. They don’t go without. Y’all stop judging her. If you really feel strongly, you can get into politics deal with our country’s business practices. Stop going after the people little guy. Shaming someone is wrong.
Thanks so much! I have recently purchased 3 knock off decks. One is a copy of a deck that I don’t want to lose (and it came in a great tin)! Now I can carry it with me and not worry about losing or “ruining” it. The other 2 are decks that I cannot get shipped to my home country under ANY circumstances… I don’t like to rip off creators, but if they are mass producing their own decks, shipping costs at the buyers expense should be a decision the buyer gets to make? Surely? So, sometimes it’s our ONLY option. I do prefer to get the original, but sometimes its just not possible.
Never bought a fake deck. I buy used decks to save money. I do believe you make valid points that should be seriously considered by those making decks. 1. Packaging and size. I don’t have space for excessively packaged decks and would prefer to do without. And honestly, with environmental concerns, it would be better IMHO to make minimal packaging. I have had to toss large beautiful boxes as I have no where to store them. 2. I trim cards often as many are too big to work with comfortably. 3. Using these as trial decks sounds awesome actually. Nothing worse than buying a deck, not connecting with it, and being stuck with it. Everyone doesn’t live in an area where stores easily take returns.
I am glad to find this article. The idea that it’s bad karma to use fake ones or that it’s cursed is the most capitalistic BS I have ever heard. In third world countries they only have fakes most of the time and they make it work. The wailing and whining of the people who hate these just reeks of privilege.
Valid points. I appreciate your honest approach. I find most sizes in real decks cumbersome. Many real decks are printed in China. I bought two fakes accidentally, second hand through an app, and as you said, it helped me decide I didn’t want to spend my money on the real cards. It may sound unfair but I do buy real decks so I think it is ok to keep and love my fakes, I use them very rarely. Blessings to you! 😁
2 other great reasons for fakes, they help you figure out if a deck is for you. If you like it alot then go buy the real versions. Nothing worse paying £20-40 for a deck to find it sitting in a box collecting dust because its not right for you. The other being that real versions are so big they are hard to carry on the go, espeically if you have multiple decks. Keep the real ones at home, fakes on the god to prevent damaging the good decks
You already know I LOVE Knock Off decks!! I have this deck in the Knock Off. There’s NO reason to have the original. It flat out svcks!! A freaking Lo Scarabeo!! There’s so much info could have been included and so much could have been done. If it’s a deck I really love. Most times I want the original just to have and keep and the knock off to use. I, too, love the smaller cards. I have small hands and short fingers so I usually have a difficult time with the bigger cards. Yes the images are usually duller. The knock off usually does Mimic the original though. Card stock and all. Of course it’s cheaper made. And yes I like the price. Tarot Cards can be used in spells and curses and other Rituals. I’m not paying $25 + just to destroy some nice guilded cards in a curse unless I feel like I need the original. Spirit will let me know The Vlad Dracula deck is perfect for dark work. Curses and Hexes. Yes they’re different to me. But it doesn’t come in a knock off and it probably never will because of how detailed the images are. The cards are really nice. Guilded. Love this deck. I don’t like using it because I paid my money and it’s so nice!! Just like the Occult Tarot and the Angel Tarot. The original decks are really nice. Even though you don’t like the guide book for the Occult lol. Yes I have 3 decks each of the knock off YES!! Knock off decks have the guide book. It’s just online. The seller makes it sound like you can scan the code and the book for that deck will come straight up.
I love your advise. Fake decks are perfect for choosing if the particular deck speak to me intuitively to buy the real deal. I have made the mistake of just buying the real decks and found a few that it doesn’t work for me. Like you said at the end ****. 😂. You have certainly earn my subscription. Thanks for sharing this valuable information which I haven’t learned of until now.
I love this! I do the same with Et5y I buy the pocket decks. I have very petite hands and I’m also a newbie still learning. So I have zero guilt writing keywords w/ultra fine tip permanent or paint markers on a knock off. If I love it then I will invest in the real deal when the original creator makes a pocket size.
I agree with you. I don’t think it harms the artist because some of these decks cost €100 and I am never going to pay that much even if counterfeits are not available. I also see the cards as “samples” or “trial products.” If I like them, then I can consider purchasing the higher quality originals. Like I have Santa Muerte Tarot by Lo Scarabeo and while I love some of the cards, others I can’t interpret no matter how many times I read the book. I don’t get along with almost all of the pentacles and the 10s in the suits are just butterflies. Also, I cannot shuffle these cards: they are too large and stiff. They are not very expensive but for the same price, I could have bought 4 counterfeit decks and seen which artwork worked the best for me. Currently, I am interested in tarot of the abyss but it is safer to buy a €4 deck for a trial run rather than commit to a €30 purchase
What I see is that many people ranting against knock-offs actually do not care about the creator, what they really care about is being able to show off their supposed ‘moral superiority’ by buying the original decks. There was a time when there was not any tarot decks but the Tarot of Marseilles and the Rider Waite, some people didn’t even needed those but plain playing cards and other didn’t even need cards at all… No showing off their fancy boxes or decks, if they bought an original tarot or not… If your product is great people will definitely buy it no matter the price or if there are fake copies or not. It’s like people do not know how the real world works…
This is amazing!!! I have a friend that lives in a 3rd world country, and he was always complaining that tarot would wind up way too expensive for him after you did all the money conversion. Welp, not anymore! Now he has access to multiple tarot’s for cheap! This is such an excellent thing! I was completely unaware of this! Thank you!!!
I agree with you. I wasn’t happy i got a fake deck for 31$ and got tricked on where i got it. I brought the green witch tarot deck and I bought a real set of it.i gotta say on the fake ones the card stock quality is better then the legit ones. Plus the fake one is small and compact enough to fit in my purse if i want to take it for traveling. So i don’t have to worry about it taking a large card deck with me and take up my space . I don’t live in Europe but i still connect with my fake deck and I found it easier to shuffle with the fake decks. Because i got small hands. I respect your decision and opinion.
Hi thanks for your reviews and opinions of these copy decks. I do prefer the originals where possible, but the cost can be a bit much. The originals do have a nice magic to them I must admit but these copies do a different job. They might not give the creators any revenue back but what they do is they promote the decks in a different way. Many people would not make themselves familiar with many original decks because of cost but the copies give a broader audience to the decks and perhaps many will like the copies and go ahead and buy an original deck. This is the world we live in so we can’t stop copy decks, but we can find a positive for using them. :hand-pink-waving::eyes-pink-heart-shape:
I love the knock off version of Heaven and Earth tarot too! I own one and they are more practical, easy to handle, easy to bring and hold. Even the quality are not so bad either. I use it every single day for my energy reading. Price are way better and it’s much more convenient. I totally agree with u 😊
The mindset and ethical principles of the reader matter the same as how they read the cards. “I save a lot of money because of buying fake decks and not WASTING money on the real deal” … That’s called a lack of integrity and ignorance. If something doesn’t have value to you, just don’t buy it and buy something else affordable from someone who doesn’t exploit other people’s work.
Most of my tarot decks are the fake one. Like you, it’s the way to learn about the deck first before buying the real deal. I have to admit some of them are really good like Luna Lapin, Lightseer’s, Shadowscapes. The best print I found is in size 12cm, not the smaller 10cm. But also there are some that I consider as failure, like Sambucus Tarot or Muse Tarot. Sometimes I also find the cut is not precise, but so what? I also have an original oracle that face the same problem.
Oh hey! I saw you hold up Z Tarot 😉 I recently got that one. Zombies 😉 it was a big box and a crazy thick deck. Hard to shuffle yeah! The deck box stands up though and the top slides off. I did get a little book with it. I had to go online to find out which symbols were for the pages and knights though. The book didnt explain that. The words are quite small too. Having to split the deck and shuffle a half at a time is a pain… the smaller cheaper decks would be nice for my smaller hands for sure.
Fake and fake. . I would call it a copy. 🙂. I have started to buy copies of Oracle cards for 3 reasons. One they are smaller 2. They last longer before they start to chip at the bottom. Which the originals does. 3rd is they are cheaper. I started with an oracle that is not in print anymore. Most of my decks are originals. But from now after the copy i bought. I will buy copies again IF there should be a deck I want. I feel for the creater of the decks. But we pay a lot for bad cards. My fav devk id Universal Rider waite and aradiant Rider waite. Thanks for the article.
Nope. Sorry. Can’t even finish the article. Personally I can’t find one valid reason, for myself anyways, to support art theft. Too each their own I suppose. To the people saying it doesn’t hurt indie creators….what planet do you live on? Can you even imagine, taking the time, effort, and skill to put together 78 pieces of art into a tarot deck…..just to have some jackass photo copy it in 10 minutes and sell it for their own profit?….and to have people be ok with that and say “well you should charge less”…..mind-blowing mentality honestly. The artists TIME is worth whatever they choose to sell it for. Also, how about people look into the cost of actually having a quality deck printed and then ask about high prices. 🙄
No no no NO don’t you call them Fake!! LOL How dare you make fun of me? LOL Fake cards? They are NOT fake, they are in your hand, and mine!! 😀 If Travis McHenry doesn’t kill me LOL I’m thinking I need to do protection. He was doing a article on his Occult Tarot cards, which btw I LOVE!!! I LOVE the “real” cards, the red sides of the cards, the big black and red guidebook, I love it I love it I love it!! BUT I also LOVE my Knock Off Deck!! What I do NOT love!! Is a Liar! In fact, I absolutely HATE a liar!! Travis is a smart man! I know he knew better!! He was saying that people would email him, or contact him however they do I guess, and complain that the QR code on the “fake deck” AKA Knock off Deck doesn’t work. He said that does not surprise him as the PDF book does not exist, it never has, it never will. LOL Oh YES it does!!! Now I know I am on Team Knock Off when I order these cards. I have went absolutely crazy and I have like over a hundred decks on the way plus what I already have LOL anyway, uh hum, People think they can scan the QR code and like Magic, up comes the book. Well No, It does NOT work that way!! First off, unless your phone or Tablet, has the memory of a big computer, it is NOT gonna download. It will say not enough room. So, if you look at the bottom of the box and the top of the address bar on your phone when you scan it, there is a web site. Go to that website on a computer, or something with enough memory. Which is tarotcards.top Type that in and it brings up 3 pages of PDF Guidebooks for Knock Off Cards.
Another perspective is that originals have a lot of fancy packaging that just goes against ecological prudence. Plus all of it is non-biodegradable. Also, there’s a lot of “extra stuff” in many boxes to show how “thoughtful” they are. What is this, some school girl scrap book items? I’m all for beauty & aesthetics but not impracticality or even trying to be different & cool. Most of that stuff is piling up of extra junk in the customer’s home. & A lot of the white books are pointless too. & Often I just want the major arcana of a particular deck or just the minor arcana. But gotta buy the full deck which is again unused extra printed cards. Card makers should also have the option to buy either of the 2 or the whole deck.
Supporting artistic theft is weird. You blasted Travis McHenry for being a fraud yet you are here promoting fake decks. Some of these are unchanted/unblessed and were made to directly profit. Wdym by not hurting the creator? Artists barely get pennies. They do not get 100% of the money you spend from the deck LOL
