The Kansas City Royals’ Mascot Is A Lion; Why?

Sluggerrr, the official mascot of the Kansas City Royals, made his debut on April 5, 1996, at Kauffman Stadium. This loveable lion with a crown-like mane has entertained millions of baseball fans since then and remains one of MLB’s most popular mascots. The word “slugger” refers to a powerful batter with a high percentage of extra base hits. Sluggerrr has been a fixture at Kansas City Royals games and public events, entertaining thousands of youngsters through the years.

Collins, who spent three years at Michigan State University as Sparty, the school’s Spartan-warrior Mascot, later went pro by catching a break that helped him go pro. The Royals said Sluggerrr has appeared at every single Royals home game dating back to April 5, 1996. He is only the fourth MLB mascot to be inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame.
