Why can’t I use spells in Elden Ring?
In Elden Ring, spells can be difficult to execute due to issues such as not having enough Focus Points (FP), not meeting stat requirements, or not having enough Focus Points. Each spell type requires different amounts of FP, and if you run out, you won’t be able to cast much of anything. To replenish your points, you can take a rest at a Site of Grace, but this is not a reliable way of playing. Flasks can also be used to replenish a portion of your focus, similar to how health flasks recover a portion of your health.
Why can’t I use Incantations?
If you cannot cast an incantation with your Sacred Seal, it’s likely because you don’t have enough Faith (FP) or don’t meet the spell’s minimum requirements. You can replenish your FP with the Flask of Cerulean Tears and upgrade it with investment into the Mind stat. The stat requirements of any spell can be found in your inventory menu. Faith is usually needed for incantations, while Arcane and Intelligence are needed for Dragon Communion and Golden Order spells.
If you’re starting as a Confessor or Prophet, you can start with a Sacred Seal already equipped. To get incantations later, you need to get your horse, Torrent, and head to Stormveil castle via the Castleward Tunnel.
How do I equip my incantations?
To equip an incantation, memorize spells at a Site of Grace and collect the necessary items. Choose the desired spell from the HUD during gameplay and tap the Attack button. To use the incantations Elden Ring on Windows, PS5, or Xbox, press E to open your inventory, equip a Seal in either hand, press the upward pointing arrow to choose the spell, and cast it by pressing the left mouse. The corresponding steps depend on your device.

The Elden Ring incantations are a powerful spell that can be cast by pressing the left mouse. MiniTool Partition Wizard provides detailed instructions on how to cast these incantations. Preparations for using Elden Ring incantations include preparing for the spell, using the spell, and practicing the spell.
Why can’t I use glintstone magic?
In order to utilize the abilities of Glintstone Sorceries, it is necessary to equip a catalyst, as these abilities are contingent upon the user’s Intelligence.
What spells do confessors start with?
Starting out with high Faith skills can be beneficial, as it allows for easy branching into heavy melee combat. The Confessor and Prophet start with healing spells, Quick Heal and Heal, which are livesavers and allow for risks. They also start with a Finger Seal for casting Incantations, which other classes need to find or purchase. However, it’s important to keep track of your blue bar (FP), as Incantations use up FP, which doesn’t regenerate on its own. Spamming Incantations can quickly deplete your FP bar, making it difficult to continue healing or delivering fireballs.

📹 Elden Ring Confessor Build Guide : How to Make a Melee Caster Build !
Elden Ring Best Confessor Build + Best Melee Caster Build Guide Playlist: …
For those who are interested in a comfortable yet straight forward kind of build, I can recommend the barrier ashes of war (from the southern nights cavalry with the mace) for the shield. You can block anything physical no matter how hard it hits and dont lose any stamina and it uses a very small amount of FP. This way you can put lightning damage on your weapon or the ashes of war which scales with faith, or a weapon with bleeding aow. Very handy especially in group play. Solo I would recommend the good old vintage dark/demon souls dodge roll and 2h strike method for faster kills
This is exactly the type of build for the gamestyle I imagine playing with the confessor, quick in and outs with a fireball!!! It’s my first dark souls game and I absolutely love it. However, most of the “optimal” builds I found online was for a tanky paladdin so TY for this guide! Can’t wait to go on the quest for the quick-step and fire sling.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is my first souls game, and I knew that I wanted to play Confessor and have a mage knight kind of build, but I had no idea how to make it happen. Thank you for just giving the beginner set up to the build and explaining how it works instead of showing off some level 50+ build with a bunch of crazy gear
Holy crap this is amazing! I’m new to Elden Ring (just got it today on my birthday). This guide helped me take my confessor from a middle tier defensive character with meh offence to being able to freely switch between solid spell offence and amazing offence with the sword and shield utilizing quickstep.
I’m playing this build but basically later. Some notes from my exprience so far: – If you can beat horse enemies, There’s one that has bloodhound step. I’ve been using that because it moves a bit further. I mix in Dodges for aggressiveness and use bloodhound step to back away quickly when I see AoEs coming. – Since you’ll most likely be running away to do damage, the upgrade to the flame sling is Black Flame. Scarlet Rot breath is also pretty OP and doesn’t require a much to use, other than costing alot of FP. – Don’t sleep on those supplemental utility spells. if you find yourself being ambushed by magic, that magic fortification spell has let me overcome fights. Treat it like you’re a Monster hunter, or witcher, or whatever. Some buffs can help, even if you swap out another spell for it temporarily. – If you don’t mind giving up a talisman slot for this… there’s a dungeon that contains a “cerulean dagger” talisman. It gives you FP for critical hits. I can save on FP flasks by backstabbing weak foes between harder ones in certain areas. I run with two weapons that use bloodhound step. I don’t need offensive weapon arts, I have a large selection of spells!
I did this and ended up doing my stats on the brass shield, and swapped out quick step with bleed on my +4 broadsword. That bleed is crazy damage, and the fire is a good spam from far. The brass shield has major deflection. With all that I’m only on a medium build. So far it’s carried me far, while I tuck away my Reaper build to scale up faith next to Vigor. Just pumped the min requirements for the brass shield, and to wield a Scythe for latter. But this build is carrying me there for sure. It’s good to experiment early on, but the base weapons with bleed on the Confessor and Brass shield is powerful!!!
I’m hella late to elden ring. Like started playing today. Picked confession because I like the inquisitor look and shield. Started leveling dex because of a flail i wanted to use. Thought I messed up so searched and found this article. You have me feeling real confident. Idk if anything changed but I’m happy
A tip about incantations and sorceries: they’re a lot harder to get than effective weapon skills are. While they do have the greatest potential for devastating enemies, it can be hard and time consuming and expensive to get incantations and sorceries. Don’t be afraid to focus on melee while increasing faith or intelligence and some mind as you progress until you have what you need. Being effective with weapons does not need nearly as much of a stat point investment as casting does. Get a good weapon skill, upgrade the weapon, and you’ll do very well even if your points are very heavily invested in non-melee stats. And don’t worry yourself about scaling options for ashes of war for the same reason. Min-maxing is completely unnecessary.
Yes seriously I’ve watched so many guys and just couldn’t remember where they just weren’t in-depth enough this I think actually is going to help me because I’m still playing Horizon and Ragnarok so it’s hard for me to switch back and forth but now that I’ve seen this a couple of times I think I might actually be able to make some progress I’ve never really been a Dark Souls player so this is all kind of new to me
Love this idea but it would be great to get a follow up! Curious what other weapons, armor, incantations, talismans you’d suggest along the journey. How would your stat breakdown look at 25, 50, 75, etc.? I am having a blast with this and the quick step is amazing when you get it down, but I’m unsure of what else might work for this build.
I bought a second Broadsword from the merchant at the beach near the beginning and alternate between sword and shield and dual wielding according to the situation. Sacred Blade AoW has been my bread and butter at the early game. Also buy a shortbow from the beach merchant too, it is a very useful tool to have around. Got vigor to 20 then started alternating Mind, Endurance and Faith, haven’t touched STR and DEX but I do have my weapons upgraded and the damage output is good, especially when dual wielding and sacred blade buffed. Have avoided going out of the way to high level zones to get OP stuff.
I have just recently beat both Horizon games and now trying to retrain my muscle memory which has been a little rough! Playing on PS4 I find myself doing things I don’t mean to at the worst possible moment! LOL! That with nerve damage which impairs my motors skills a bit almost had me to the point I was about to toss in the towel, but I found the ash salesman and did as you suggested and so far, so good! Went back to that giant at Gatefront for some payback! Not ready for the big guy at the start just yet got to figure out how to get to the Lake-Facing Cliffs for the fireball. Nonetheless FINALLY making progress thanks to you!
Just started following this guide i found this pretty early in my game i literally just made it to that merchant who sold us the quickstep or was really close by when i started following these steps im only level 13 but i have everything i need i just need to practice the quickstep then quick hits block and dodge then repeat. thanks dude just found that Margit character oh boy …..
Thank you for this guide, *what’s the main stats I should focus for confessor though?” * NVM you covered it sorry. I just restarted as my samurai build was terrible and could barely get pass bosses at lvl 80. I’m already enjoying this class more and your guide is going to help me a lot more! Thank you for putting the time in to help us. 🙏 I think Ill make it to NG this time and be ready for the DLC lol
For anyone that was confused as fuck on how to even EQUIP the skills, he glossed over it as if it was obvious. You cannot just equip a skill, you have to go to the site of graves but unless you have acquired this purple dagger, you wont even have ashes of graves as an option… pissed me off. Go to the GATEFRONT RUINS (look up where thats at if you dont have it on your ap). Its heavily guarded and you will need to sneak pass the guards. It’s hard to explain where exactly but go towards the back of the camp facing the yellow trees, theres a guard thats with a wolf on the far end (just look around its hard to explain here but it going down the hill instead of upwards from the back of the camp) trail pass him on his RIGHT side next to the YELLOW TINT. There should be a hidden stairway going underground. go all the way through and open the door and theres a chest boom…NOOOW you can equip your shit
Dude…..I never would have thought to put “No Skill” on my shield then Quick Step on my weapon. It is so much more satisfying quick stepping with a Katana in hand then back stabbing. My favorite is executing that counter strike with my sword staggering the enemy then re-post with a dagger. The really cool part is when you get earn a item because this white firework pops right when the dagger goes in …so epic to witness Also ” you’ve earned a sub” …I didn’t know you gain a “B scaling” in DEX with “keen” on the Uchigatana. I love the dual twin blade but it only changes to C scaling.
@1:27 lol Are we playing the same game? As far as I can ascertain through the game tutorials, testing in-game, searching the internet, and searching the wiki, there is no “Block into Light Attack Counter Swing” which can be performed with the R1 button instead of the R2 button. There is only 1 form of Block counter, and it’s with the R2/Right Trigger button. I asked my Discord, and they reported the same. EDIT: Also, I still really love the build and didn’t mean this question as a call-out or anything. I’m just legitimately confused.
a clear, helpful article – thanks mate! I started with a Vagabound but thats was my first char and I dunno everything, after that, I also tried a full magic char and a dex-char with two katanas, but the Confessor seems best for me, since I can fight melee and do some magic stuff – great! I give it a try 🙂 love to test out all classes before I start really, even if my Vagabound is already on lv 63 and my Dex-Char on lv 40 😀
Ended up with a Melee Caster Build, I found that you need to invest a lot of points into strength to be able to strength only but with incantations instead of sorcery, I found it worked better for fighting especially with how much faith buffs weapons and you to compensate for lacking other stats. Melee Incantations is a really great build
I am new and a bit confused about the block into light attack counter swing you talk about early on . I can do a heavy attack after a block, which is a guard counter right? Is this what you meant? I cant quite get a light attack to come out as a counter swing after a block. Am I misunderstanding something here?
So using the No Skill ash of war on the shield will end up removing the parry skill from it correct? So you can no longer parry with that shield? A bit of a bummer that this strategy depends on that, since I would love to try and master parrying. Everything is a tradeoff I guess, and these are the choices we must make.
Ive got a bloodhounds fang +2 & jellyfish shield+2. Should i continue upgrading these or go for a non-apecial item and upgrade those with my ashes of war? im new to these types of games but ive been patient following walkthroughs for items and rune farm. im lvl 40+ rn and havent really done any bosses yet besides the bloodhounds fang boss.
So, this is my first souls game and I started as a confessor and have just acquired to Meteorite Staff and the Rock Sling, but can for some reason not use the Rock Sling and not add it to the pouch. I’ve levelled up intelligence to 20 and have an extra memory slot, but still can’t use it and not add it to the pouch. What am I missing here?
Can you equip more than one ashes of war? I was initially wanting to put the no skills ash on my weapon in order to do incantations whilst still using melee weapons and damage with shield equipped. Is this possible? I like the look of this quick step though but want to be slightly more of a mage with the confessor whilst still a strong melee fighter.. someone please help? 😭😂
