To uncurl foil Magic cards, use a spacer and a damp Scott towel to prevent direct contact with water. The cards are usually curled inwards slightly and can be left to dry. Unbind the cards by placing them in an air-tight container with a humidor packet for a day or two. Once straightened, remove the foils from the container and let them dry for 30-90 minutes. Foils can curl in either direction, folding inward toward the artwork or outward toward the back. To uncurl most foil Magic cards, raise the card’s moisture using a homemade “hydration chamber”. To fix curled foils, subtract the humidity by placing them on a platform-shaped base and applying or removing the card. Place two foils back to back in a binder page, and they will naturally de-curl each other.

Curled foil cards are the bane of any Trading Card Game player. But Flesh and Blood has it’s own unique problem of the Fabled …
I’m glad somebody recently posted about the Boveda packs because even if TCG players can’t find stuff out themselves sometimes the correct solutions just spread wide when they’re explained easily enough. So we’re closer to getting a good grasp and experience with uncurling foils and this vid does a great job on sharing some testing possibilities. Crazy tho how deaf people still oftentimes are to the reasons or possible fixes, like bimetal layers are something you’ll hear about in school and I wouldn’t have thought the concept of swelling should be above anyone who likes strategic games.
I get that fabled are supposed to be “fabled”, but they really should have made non-foil versions for competitive play. Same with Mechanoid. Foiling should be a privilege, not a hindrance. I guess you could go extreme and try to cold foil your deck since those don’t curl as much… not sure how possible that is but props to whoever can do it.
Though this won’t help with cards you didn’t pull yourself, I do also want to take a moment to stress preventative measures. I am for better or worse, an avid double sleever. Whenever I pull foils of note, I usually double sleeve them immediately and in my experience, this has made them extremely resistant to curling. Especially if they were stored in my binder for a time after sleeving.
Brilliant. I was pretty damn sure this was the solution, but hadn’t gone around to testing it yet. I’ve been familiar with the Boveda packs before I got back into TCGs (lets just say I’ve done work in California).
