Devil’s Kettle is a fictional city in Minnesota, named after a waterfall that leads into an endless hole. The film follows the lives of two lifelong friends, Anita “Needy” Lesnicki (Amanda Seyfried) and Jennifer Check (Megan Fox), who are best friends from Devil’s Kettle. The name is a real place, but the falls in the film can be ambiguous.
Devil’s Kettle is a small town in Minnesota, where a demon named Jennifer Check is possessed by a high school cheerleader named Needy Kesnicki. Jennifer kills her male classmates and devours their flesh to survive. The film is based on the Diablo Cody-scripted horror-comedy about a teenage girl who goes on a boy-eating spree after being possessed by a demon. The best friend who tries to stop her gains a cult.
The film also features a glammed-up poster mascot for Jennifer’s body, featuring the “Devil’s Kettle” logo on the chest and “Alisha” written on the inside of the collar. Megan Fox stars as Jennifer Check, the head cheerleader at her high school in the rural town of Devil’s Kettle.
After being possessed by a demon, Jennifer starts killing and eating the boys in her town. The film has gained popularity in television and movies, with Megan Fox reigning as the titular glammed-up poster mascot for Jennifer’s body.
📹 Jennifer’s Body: The Complete History of Jennifer Check (Movie, Comic) | Horror History
NOT JUST HIGH SCHOOL EVIL. Jennifer Check, the central character in the unapologetically emo 2009 film Jennifer’s Body, …
Are Needy and Jennifer lesbians?
In the latter stages of the film, Needy and Jennifer, both human characters, were depicted as having had a prior friendship. Chastity accused Needy of harboring a romantic interest in Jennifer that was of a homosexual nature, but Needy denied this accusation. This relationship is the most prominent in the film, as it once exhibited a profound connection between the two characters. The sexual encounter was originally intended to be a mere act of kissing, but it was ultimately transformed into a more explicit display of affection.
What is the symbolism in Jennifer’s Body?
Jennifer’s Body examines the exploitation of female sexuality for the benefit of men, demonstrating that women, frequently portrayed as monsters, are, in fact, victims striving to survive the consequences of their abuse.
Was Needy in love with Jennifer?
Needy was in love with her boyfriend Chip and Jennifer, but Jennifer never chose her. The scene in Jennifer’s Body is known as the moment where Jennifer Check dies and a boy-eating demon emerges. Jennifer had her eyes on the lead singer of Low Shoulder before they were playing a show at Devil’s Kettle. Jennifer had to convince Needy to go with her and make an impression on the band. Jennifer bumped into prior flings, crawling back for more. As the band played, Jennifer secured her eyes on her target, and the staring contest began.
The bar lit on fire, and Jennifer’s trance stopped her from taking herself to safety. Needy’s adrenaline kicked in, and the pair of best friends made their way out safely. The lead singer of Low Shoulder approached them suspiciously untouched. In disbelief, Needy declined without a second thought, while Jennifer seemed unsure.
What did Jennifer throw up in Jennifer’s body?
In the film, Jennifer, a girl who is sexually assaulted by her bandmates, is found in her kitchen with a bloody wound. She reveals her horrific experience to her mother, Needy, who is left alone with her mother. The next day, Jennifer returns to school unharmed, seemingly mean to her classmates. She is awoken by her boyfriend, Chip, who advises her to see a school psychologist. Jennifer then flirts with a varsity football player, Jonas, and tries to kill him. The murder goes unreported, and Jennifer continues her terror, killing other male classmates.
Needy, however, notices the entire school is mourning and benumbed by the tragedies, except for Jennifer. As the series of killings progresses, she experiences telepathic visions that make her realize that Jennifer is the killer. This connection is based on the anguish of enforced silence, where the horrific experiences of both girls will go unacknowledged and unredressed. The movie offers a supernatural compensation for the victims of Jennifer’s crimes, who allow themselves to be attracted and seduced without any interest in or relationship with her.
Jennifer’s survival depends on her ability to gratify her cannibalistic hungers and pursue her revenge plot unimpeded. Her silent duplicity towards Needy, or gaslighting of Needy, is a matter of life and death. The movie dramatizes metaphysical revenge on a world that is out of whack and on men who want only Jennifer’s body.
Why does Jennifer eat boys in Jennifer’s Body?
Jennifer, a woman who was stabbed to death by Low Shoulder after leaving a bar, was not a virgin but transformed into a demon with superhuman abilities, speed, seduction, beauty, and immortality. She would feast on human flesh to maintain her eternal youth. When Needy saw Jennifer drenched in blood, she sensed something awful had happened to her. Jennifer then killed three teenage boys, Jonas, Colin, and Ahmet.
As Needy was at the prom looking for Jennifer, Jennifer was seducing Needy’s boyfriend, Chip. She lied about cheating with Colin, but Chip chose not to be with Jennifer due to his love for him. Jennifer attacked Chip at an abandoned pool and killed him.
As Needy arrived at the scene, Jennifer found Jennifer feeding on Chip’s neck. After a verbal exchange, Jennifer tried to kill Needy but was stabbed with a pool skimmer. Needy tried calling a doctor, but no reception. After Chip said his last words, he died in Needy’s arms as she mourned his death.
What type of demon is Jennifer?
Needy discovers Jennifer is a succubus who can only be killed when she is hungry and weak. She breaks up with Chip to protect him, but Jennifer lies to him about her cheating with Colin. She feeds him in an abandoned pool, impales him with a pool skimmer, and kills him.
Angry and heartbroken, Needy breaks into Jennifer’s bedroom, fights her, and kills her with a utility knife. Jennifer’s mother finds Needy on top of her dead daughter’s body. Needy is taken to an asylum, where she manifests some of Jennifer’s supernatural powers. She escapes and hitchhikes a ride, claiming she is following a band. A home video and crime scene photos reveal that Low Shoulder members were murdered by Needy in their hotel.
Why was Jennifer’s Body hated?
Jennifer’s Body, a B-movie, was criticized for its overly ambitious script, sexualization, and lack of depth. The Chicago Tribune called it a “gruesome paint-by-bloody-numbers succubus story”, while the A. V. Club described it as “clever for its own sake” but lacking sincerity. The LA Times criticized the dialogue, while the LA Times noted that the film was “self-conscious splatter over a sorely lackluster scare flick”. Director Karyn Kusama managed to generate some suspense, but struggled to maintain a sense of suspense elsewhere.
Why did Needy see blood on the ceiling?
In the text, Chip and Needy are together when Colin goes to Jennifer’s house for a date. They end up in a suburb where he spots a light shining in the window of the house and sneaks into it. Jennifer starts to seduce Colin, and he initially hesitates but his teenage hormones kick in. As they have sex, Jennifer tearing Colin limb from limb, and Needy hallucinates blood dripping from the ceiling.
Needy falls asleep on the couch and has a dream about playing in the sandbox when they were kids. She wakes up and decides to go to bed in her room. Jennifer surprises her by sneaking into her bed, washing the blood off of herself and getting into Needy’s clothes. They start kissing, and Needy is “hypnotized” by Jennifer’s sexuality.
In this scene, we learn about Jennifer’s fate the night of the fire. After taking off with the guys from Low Shoulder, Jennifer begins to regret her decision but realizes it’s too late. One of the band members questions Nikolai about her virginity, and she lies about it to save her life. The guys go deep into the woods adjacent to the town’s big waterfall with a hole where nothing resurfaces. Jennifer tries to escape but is caught, tied up, and laid atop a wooden stump.
Nikolai reads a satanic passage and tells Jennifer that they plan to sacrifice a virgin to the devil to make them famous. He believes Satan is their only hope and stabs Jennifer to death with a bowie knife. Jennifer wakes up and runs into the foreign exchange student Ahmed, who survived the fire. Jennifer eats him and reveals that devouring human flesh makes her virtually indestructible. To prove this, Jennifer stabs her arm with a pencil, which magically closes on its own.
Needy reacts by saying this is too weird and tells Jennifer to leave. Jennifer attempts to seduce Needy again but fails.
The next day, Needy attends Colin’s funeral, where his mother puts them in place by stating that he is not an angel flying on flamed wings or any of that nonsense. After the funeral, Needy does some research in the occult section of the school’s library and reveals that Jennifer is evil. Since the band sacrificed an “impure” vessel, a succubus demon inhabited her soul. Jennifer has been feeding on the flesh of boys, and Needy is worried the dance will be a smorgasbord of flesh for her.
Nickie expresses concern about Needy and decides not to go to the dance with him because it’s not safe for them to be together. Before leaving his house, Chip’s mother gives him women’s pepper spray, reaffirming the parents’ knowledge of a killer in the town.
Is Needy a Succubus?
Needy is a half-Succubus, a demonic female sexual predator who seduces human males to eat their flesh, blood, and soul to survive and nourish their strength. They need to consume human flesh to maintain their health, beauty, and powers. They only need to feed once a month and seem incapable of eating normal food, vomiting it in the form of a black ferromagnetic fluid. A girl can become a Succubus if she is not a virgin and is sacrificed in a Satanic ritual or bitten. They have ghoulish yellow eyes, a large snake-like mouth with razor-sharp fangs, and possibly venomous teeth.
Why did Jennifer turn evil?
Jennifer, a human with exceptional beauty and the ability to seduce boys, gained demonic powers after her sacrifice for Satan. These powers include Superhuman Strength, Superhuman Speed, Nigh-Immortality, Levitation, Eternal Youth, Regeneration, Pain Immunity, and Conversion. Jennifer can kill teenage boys, jump on her windshield, survive a pool skimmer impaling her, and levitate and hover her body off into the air. She also has eternal youth to remain beautiful and can regenerate from any injury, including being impaled through the stomach, having her tongue burned, and having her arm cut.
Jennifer also shows no signs of physical pain, possibly due to her regeneration ability. Needy, the first and only example of this, claimed that if anyone gets bitten by a demon and lives, they obtain some of their occult powers.

There is another interpretation on why Jennifer kills boys that are close to Needy. Jennifer has romantic feelings for needy but suppresses them and once possessed the demon unleash those desires with inhibition so she kills off all potential love interests. It also explains why Jennifer gives up and the end of the fight
I always saw the hypnotism at the beginning (and Jennifer taking the singer’s drink) as a metaphor for a date rape drug or something similar, especially with the way she had to be led by the hand and was stumbling while she walked, along with the general unawareness of her surroundings (idk if it’s ever been confirmed though)
The only thing I think you can add to this, is that Jennifer creates a circle of abuse, where victims of abuse end up abusing others. She went from being abused by the band,, both literally and figuratively, to being the abuser, again both literally and figuratively. That being said it’s something mentioned before in other horror histories and is just kinda implied, so I’m not criticizing CZsWorld for not mentioning it, just bringing it up cause it often is brought up in regards to physical or emotional abuse but can be found in cases of sexual abuse as well, although it is rare when compared to how common these traits are found in victims physical or emotional abuse.
This kind of hurts. I was raped two times before 8, and abused from 8 till 16, a lot of bullshit later I was drugged and raped again at 28. Anyway I became a toxic person, angry to everyone, and only now at 34 I’m out of the tunnel and trying to find a healthier version of myself. Whenever I saw “Jennifer’s body” I always felt a huge sadness about her, she was never the bad guy to me. This analysis just opened my eyes as to why. I’m better now, I’m fighting my demons, so I guess the point of this comment is: you don’t know what people go through, have some mercy on your heart for everyone, we all have our demons.
I figured needy is the avenging angel to Jennifer’s demonic self. She goes after the band for what they did to her friend and the people she killed because of them. But then you wonder what is she going to do next ? Because unlike Jennifer. Needy has full control and knows what she’s doing. Would really enjoy seeing a 2nd movie with what needy ended up doing.
Speaking of which, I’d love to see you discuss Ginger Snaps, and how it and Jennifer’s Body allude to adolescence and sexuality. Rather than have the title character become a succubus, she gets lycanthropy with menstruation, mood swings, and sexual interest being parallels to the side effects of infection from a werewolf, and womanhood represented through the next full moon during Halloween night. Sisterly relationships play part to the wolf-pack allusions. Can’t wait!
I love your take on my absolute favorite movie. One thing though, I am a bisexual woman and I interpreted her going after all the men that needy liked as more of a way to make her jealous and take away any options for her. She wants needy but is confused by her own feelings for her. That is why she’s so mean to her because it’s her frustration with not being able to be with her friend. I feel like this is a universal bi woman’s experience lol. No wonder I love this movie so much
Man, good for Diablo Cody getting to make such a personal film and making it her own way. Jennifer’s Body is one of my top fav horrors because it’s goofy, but it feels so real and personal. Cannot wait for Lisa Frankenstein!! Maybe it’s in the same world as JB?? Who knows! Edit: I am so happy to come back a few months later indeed knowing Lisa Frankenstein is in the same universe of JBs because Diablo said “I said so.” God bless that woman.
This happened to my sister and I, everything except the killings. I can’t believe how relatable this story is. My sister was abused growing up and now behaves similarly to the brunette girl. The scene where the mom walks in and sees her baby gone reminds me that she was a victim and kinda made me cry because I am so angry at my sister but she is a victim and I am heartbroken. Like my twin can’t form lasting relationships and goes through men and hit on my husband and is very out of control, but all I can think is that she didn’t ask for this and that her life was derailed by past abuse.
Your explanation about daughters who don’t have a father or a father figure is so true. My ex-friend was kind of rebellious and unpredictable, even though she does have a father, he was barely home, working late nights at his workplace. So, he never really knew what she was doing most of the time. She is so much like Jennifer, but without the cannibalism and drugs.
CZ you did a great job on this one there are so many layers to this and younger teens to women we could relate as we were going through these things. From a horror standpoint I enjoy a horror with people who create a villain because many are created but we ignore that. Many want to pretend evil is just born out of nowhere but these types of horrors are interesting to me even if I’m rooting against the villain.
I found this movie by accident. I was perusal a compilation of shocking/bizarre bloopers from horror movies, and there’s a scene where Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried are fighting (the one in Jennifer’s room), and Megan actually bites Amanda before covering her face and apologizing for biting her costar. If you get so into your role that you actually bite someone, I have to see the movie.
I’ve always had a fascination with the making of horror rather than perusal the movies themselves. I’m trying to make the effort to watch more actual movies. I have heard of this movie but haven’t seen it and have barely seen anything about it. These real-world elements of psychology really add depth to movies. I love the hidden details like the names of the arcade games. Everything in a movie is placed there or chosen in some way but some writers and directors can put some deep messages into the smallest of things. So rewarding for the eagle-eyed or persistent viewers.
To me it’s internet how female puberty is equated to horror. Jennifer’s body and teeth are some of my favorite coming of age stories because they seem to capture the absolute terror of being a teenage girl. People everywhere have an idea of who you are and what you can do. The second you oppose them even slightly, you’re punished disproportionately. In the end though, you were a victim at the start and everything after that is just trying to heal some of the wounds.
Wow. This was truly a wonderful, meaningful, and comprehensive breakdown of Jennifer’s story! I first watched this movie when I was only 10 years old, and I’ve always known that it was definitely one of those movies that had a significant impact on my life since it basically catalyzed my transition into adolescence and, subsequently, adulthood, as well as introduced me to emo music (which is always special and nostalgic to me). After perusal this article, though, I’ve found more appreciation for the movie as I now realize just how relevant/relatable it was to my own life experiences, especially as a girl. Thanks to Diablo Cody for sharing her own story as well – compelling and relatable. 🙂
I watched this movie in 8th grade and thought it was badass. Realized I was bi, kissed my best friend and went on with life loving this movie. It wasn’t until I became an adult did I realize I missed a lot of the themes and lessons this movie offers. I thought it was just about sexuality. But then again I was a lot like Jennifer in the way I presented myself in high school while being terribly insecure. It’s very ironic that my dumb teenage brain took away the wrong message and made so many mistakes and now I have an even deeper connection to this movie because of them.
I resonate with Jennifer so much. I am a bisexual man myself who was once “in love” with my best friend. I did all the things that jennifer did to needy. I tried to socially isolate him, put him down and hated everyone who came in his proximity LOL. Its just now that I realised I was doing all that due to my insecurities. well I have abondoned that part of me now for good
I remember being friends with Diablo/Brook on MySpace. I dont remember who followed who first, but I do remember her talking about Juno quite a bit. I have never seen it, but I liked her occasional Rollercoaster blog posts. I ALSO remember all the shit Meghan Fox caught for doing this movie. People were really misogynistic towards her back then.
You showed clips and referenced Diablo Cody and Megan fox’s recent interview that they did to talk about the meaning behind this movie. Which is why I’m a bit confused that you misconstrued the symbolism to be about teenage angst, puberty, and promiscuity. When Diablo Cody herself said that this movie was meant to be a metaphor regarding sexual assault or DR and the physical and psychological changes that happen to an SA victim post trauma.
Thank u for being such a sweet and delicate Professor when speaking about delicate female struggles instead of just calling Jennifer an “S” or “W” but instead u went into detail with why young women without father figures in their life, are really looking for love and protection(my own dad failed me and left me with an abusive mother who basically used me as a sacrificial lamb to my child predator of an uncle, and I admit that I became a young mom at 18, just because I wanted someone who would love and need me)but I was never promiscuous and nor did I mistreat my friends out of insecurity like Jen did her bff, and it’s funny to me because I do have a good friend Juanita who I nicknamed “Neaty” because she’s always been a neat person? She had more mother issues, because her mom kicked her and her 2 sisters out of her house at the age of 11, due to Neaty and her sisters jumping mom’s bf after he beat their mom up. Anyways, thank u again because u do take extra special care of important things, just like how I appreciate when u added the BLM movement and George Floyd being killed on ur Candyman article? One of my favorite types of human beings, are the ones who stand up and speak on the ugly truths that other ppl endure, even if they may have never personally experienced……those folks are true heroes, IMO. Also, there are a lot of cool ppl that are subbed to this website as well. Happy Belated New Year, Professor CZ and Family!!! :person-turqouise-waving::face-red-heart-shape:
i would love for you to do a horror history on needy because everything in the movie is a flashback of her nerdy self, her boyfriend chip and best friend jennifer, and how she ends up in a mental hospital, also there is a post credit scene which is unexpected i would like to hear your thoughts, opinions, and theories about it, and of course i like to say this, i am in love with your content, it is so intriguing and amazing, keep it up.
Obviously the worst of Jennifer’s traits were hyper activated by becoming a succubus, but personally I think she wouldn’t have done all of the things she had to Needy had she never been sacrificed. I feel like they would have eventually grown apart in high school and their sand box love would naturally die. The jealousy & insecurity of Jennifer I think would remain concealed rather than enhanced and all would be at peace lol
The “It cuts boxes” is also a reference to earlier in the movie when Jennifer said something would make her “look boxy” which is an insecurity in women and girls; women expected to have an hourglass shape, one portrayed in so many drawings men do of women, looking “boxy” is also an insult, saying a woman has no figure or is unattractive, so Needy was both figuratively and literally trying to cut Jennifer down.
I think even with the renewal of a new movie for Jennifer’s Body, I think that the alter ego of Brooke was mirrored greatly in the movie. i found this where Needy would kill Jennifer, ergo Brooke killing Diablo to end a chapter of a story but because Needy was bitten by Jennifer, she had acquired her powers and some of her beauty factors. This could be a foresight of Brooke keeping Diablo, of course, but she hides that alter ego for her daughter whereas Needy hides her powers and “Jennifer” from the mental ward so that she can bust out of there and destroy “Low Shoulder”. Anyways, love Diablo Cody and Needy was my favorite character, other than Jennifer💗
concerning what you said when jennifer is waiting for needy in her bed, during the kissing scene. i think yes, conciously it’s to have power over her because she knows that she is attracted to her. but i think subconciously, jennifer has ALWAYS loved her back, but was never strong enough in her self to decide to be labeled a lesbian in the early 2000s. so she over compensates with men, yes, but notice how needy is always somehow involved in one way or another when jennifer feeds. jennifer is in love with needy. she always has. i think the demon finally gives her strength to show it. i think…i think that kiss was genuine.
I feel bad for both Jennifer and Needy Jennifer was tortured and sacrificed to the devil and was turned into a succubus and has to eat humans to survive and I feel bad for Needy she had to kill her friend to stop her from killing more people and the fact her friend INTENTIONALLY killed her Boyfriend (which i was honestly mad at Jennifer cause she knows Needy loves him) and when she told people no one believed her.
I always thought the electrical fire was planned by Low Shoulder, to create an opening to steal a victim and then claim that they never saw her, she must’ve died in the fire. The animals Jennifer attracts are all scavengers and carnivores of opportunity, they’re waiting to eat Jonas’s remains once Jennifer is done with him.
Finding out this was based on true events, not a story..there’s a difference, was interesting, but not surprising. But what did make me chuckle were the words at 28:39 . I was staying at a friend’s place in Miami back in 2013 and his g/f had a 13yr old daughter and one day she’s pacing around yelling out-“Ugh! Why am I SO HUNGRY!?” Felt kinda bad for the kid, but kept my mouth shut, naturally. 😐
I never actually sat down and watched this movie, but I’ve heard of it many times and I also know the plot but after perusal this article, I just realize how much I resonate with Jennifer when I was younger around her age I was dumb, wanting to grow up fast, because I had a hard life so I was promiscuous, but the wrong man took advantage of me and turned me into a monster, and it changed my life forever, maybe that’s the true meaning of this movie with a little bit of a figurative paranormal theme, I like the idea of her becoming a succubus because it’s funny I actually kinda am the real life counterpart. when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade.😈😌
one thing that i think that’s really important and clarifying is that nikolai has a waxing moon tattoo and choosed to sacrifice jennifer in a waxing moon night. this really got me thinking and i went to search what does that mean. i found that it means manifesting what you desire easily, bringing wealth or a stronger bond with your friends and well… look what happened.
Another thing that makes this sad also is that when you look at the ending. It really shows the darkness that took over Jennifer that ruined everything. Jennifer not confronting these feelings in my opinion. Accepting and understanding that not everybody’s trying to objectify her. Along with not everybody’s trying to take her popularity away. Along with the big one nobody is trying to take needy away from her. Just once needy to stand on her own two feet. Actually combinated in her demise. Which in my opinion is actually really sad because she never got to that point. Of true discovery of herself. Because all she used the power for was fighting against these invisible forces. Not to say they’re not real but they’re not something that is being vied for all the time or ever. But that’s what really got her killed in the end she couldn’t see past the abuse. That she suffered from along the cycle of abuse she created. By not accepting herself it made her a target.
As well as the comic, there’s also a little known and hard to come by novelization of the movie, told from Needy’s perspective (so no POVs of the kills or anything like that). It’s not good – it’s essentially like someone took the movie and wrote it as a middle grade story, dumbing it down and cutting back on the profanity. While it’s mostly accurate to the film, there are some slight expansions, like a funeral scene for Collin Grey, more of Needy’s mom, a reason for the questionable style of Needy’s dance dress, as well as some elaboration on the scene where Needy has visions of Jennifer during sex with Chip – Needy believes that she can literally feel Jennifer’s emotions, possibly due to her having sucked some of Jennifer’s blood after getting stabbed by a thumbtack in the sandbox as a child. I wouldn’t recommend the read for pleasure, but I do have a copy of the book that I would be happy to send scans of, if the website ever decides to do an episode specifically on Needy – it would be an interesting resource, to say the least.
I know this is the history of Jennifer but I also feel it’s worth mentioning the dream that Needy’s mom had about Needy getting nailed to a tree by some bad people, I almost thought it would foreshadow the ending because Needy gained some demonic powers from Jennifer’s bite and I assumed it meant she would be hunted and killed in some weird religious symbolic way, especially since her mom compared what happened to Needy in the dream to the crucification of Jesus Christ, idk if I am reading into it but every time I watched that movie, that scene made me think there would be relevance to the story, another theory of mine is that the dream reflected what happened to Jennifer as something that could have happened to Needy because she was the actual virgin at the time of Low Shoulders sacrifice, I don’t remember exactly if it was a boulder or a tree but I think Jennifer was laying on a log or cut down tree of some sort when Low Shoulder (the bad people) “nailed” her aka stabbed her
I was about 12 when this movie came out making me the exact demographic that the producers at least wanted to sell to. But the filmmakers made a movie that adult me is kind of obsessed with. after discounting it for so many years as just a horny movie for young teens. I had only of course, seen the infamous kissing scene, and I’m ashamed to say I never watched the movie in its entirety until adulthood, but now I see how truly amazing it is. Underrated as hell.
I can’t really differentiate between succubus and regular high school mean girl evil because they’re basically the same to me Because I was the nerdy girl, although I didn’t have a best frienemy I was just a girl that you said hi to you in the hall as you were walking to your next class or what have you
I saw an interview where she said that this scene felt symbolic of what she was going through at the time with speaking out against whatever sexual harassment was going on and how she felt as though the people in charge were willing to sacrifice her super sad she deserves an apology and a super hero movie
Everyone look up, “Elyse Pahler”, the scene in this movie was inspired by the tragic event that happen in the town I live. 3 boys murdered Elyse, thinking that if they sacrificed her they would get fame, become better death metal artist, & become popular. It’s a creepy, eerie thing that still haunts our town to this day, that is to those who still remember. The area Elyse was killed is so similar to where they sacrifice her, minus the sink hole, just a long road & a bunch of trees. The 3 young boys were arrested & sentenced to prison, they continuously raped her months after they had stabbed & strangled her to death, & in the scene when Jennifer screams, “Please God, No”, is exactly the last words of Elyse, “Please God No, & Mom Please Help Me”. 8 months after the murder one of the boys couldn’t take it anymore & eventually led the police to the body of Elyse Pahler.
This movie does a fantastic job of blending real horror with supernatural horror. It takes the brutality of misogyny and violence against women and websites that into a man-eating succubus. It takes the genuine rivalry and fragility of female friendships and essentially turns it into a female slasher film. I’ve loved this movie since I first saw it in 2010. I’m so glad it’s finally getting the praise and recognition it deserves.
Poor girl, this scene is most likely the most heartbreaking. They literally made fun of her fear and while she begged them for her life, not being taken seriously even in her last moments, sexualized and objectified again. It’s such a pity we did not see a complete scene how Needy butchered them to avenge Jennifer.
They marketed the movie wrong using her image as a sexual figure instead of a precautionary tale, yall can hate it if u want but this film touches on real heavy themes like adult males abusing their power, boundary issues, vulnerability to be exploited, sexual confusion/denial, toxic friendships. This film is supposed to be dark and comedic yall just taking it too seriously.
Aww. I feel sorry for Jennifer. And I can’t believe those Devil Kennel guys were going to do something terrible to her. It was wrong and evil. Poor Jennifer. I would never do anything to hurt anyone like Jennifer. But I love it when she was waving hi to Needy and she was smiling at her and Needy was waving hi to Jennifer back. And Needy was smiling, too. They both have the most amazing beautiful smiles.
I mean this film was fairly weird, but this scene was like so ridiculous it made me laugh. Like the film is really preachy, and that would be okay if they were subtle about it, but it just feels so random and out of place and they hammer it in. “You know it’s really hard to get famous these days, so OUR ONLY HOPE WAS SATAN”
I think the person who wrote Jennifer’s body didn’t understand the ‘popular/mean girl’ vibe very well….because well, if you had turned into a semi in control demon after this….who would you have been out to kill first? The band guys. They missed the whole revenge bit. And if there is ANYTHING that every girl who’s been hurt in any way understands….your first impulse is always to get even.
people commenting about how this is such a good scene, how scary it is and how there is so much symbolism……I laughed at this scene. Not in a bad way, but for the actual comedy. I guess people take this stuff more seriously. I mean, satanic rituals must happen a LOT right? Just think about all those indie bands going around making virgin sacrifices…sigh….musta been what imagine dragons did🤷🏻♀️
I understand Jennifer probably wasn’t in the best headspace given her current circumstances but why does she never even try explaining that she lied about being a virgin? Like Nikolai even says “Deliver this Virgin unto thee” and she never thought that maybe they would let her go if she wasn’t a virgin. Again I understand the circumstances but it’s just annoying that 8 words, “I’m not a Virgin, I lied to you” could’ve given her a chance to save herself.
I HAVE SOMETHING COMPLETELY SEPARATE TO SAY ABOUT STORY OF (JENNIFER’S BODY) First off, I honestly thought the year2009 movie of (Jennifer’s Body) was really good, and I really enjoyed to have seen it, and yet I wasn’t happy that its ending had ended in a cliffhanger way, and to add my own rating for it is 3 stars plus half a star. Now I think that it might be great if a show series based on the story of (JENNIFER’S BODY) is created, and I can imagine if a short series does happen to get made of it, and then maybe more could be added to the story for the show series, and to add I hopefully want the show series to be live-action made. Plus to add I can imagine some of the moments from the year2009 movie of (JENNIFER’S BODY) could be included within the live-action show series of it; For instance the moment when Jennifer says to her former friend (I Am Going To Eat Your Soul) & the moment when Jennifer asks her former female friend (Do You Have A Tampon?) & to add a few other moments from the story movie I can imagine might be in the show series as well.
I guess Summer left him, huh and he went crazy. Karen went under an alias in witness protection, now going as Needy/Anita and Mikayla dumped Sam also went under witness protection as Jennifer and somehow they all too a left turn into psychoville and now “Jennifer.” is a demon, Seth is a dead killer and “Anita.” is partly demon powered a killer? For anyone who took this movie in a serious vain, you’re as stupid as the fanfic in the starting lines of my comment. This movie is a comedy horror. It’s not meant to be serious, though to be honest I wish they had because I think how creepy in parts it actually is confused people on the fact it’s not actually meant to be scary, creepy or just a horror.
Nikolai Wolf: we’re in league with the beast now, and we have to make a really big impression on him. And to do that, we’re going to have to butcher you and bleed you. And then Dirk here’s gonna wear your face. Relax. I’m kidding about the face. The rest is gonna happen though. But you know what? Maybe we’ll write a song about you. i think as a fan, that’d be pretty cool, right? at 0:45 LOL
This is sad because pretty much after they did this, they killed her brutally and her human soul reminds in hell due to this Satan blood cult and pretty much the demon possessed her dead body and it learned a lot of things about her so that’s why it started to act just like the real Jennifer so Jennifer died that night and this whole movie was nit even Jennifer it was a demon.
One time I had a dream they did the exact same thing as they did to me but it turned out it didn’t work but then I lived why am I not in heaven but then something didn’t feel right inside me had a demon inside of me in the basic thing I need to acquire is to feed on my victims even though it is disgusting for me to do I didn’t have a choice
