So it was my understanding that the Sun actually orbits not around its center, but closer to its outer diameter because of Jupiter. So if that is true, than there has to be some question to the statement that the alignment of all the planets wouldn’t have an effect on the solar system. So what’s true. Is the rotation of the Sun around its outer diameter because of Jupiter or not? And then how does the movement of the Sun and Solar System through the galaxy have on such alignments?
When this happens Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn are on the far side of the sun. Mars and Saturn are at their dimmest, Jupiter too but Jupiter at it’s dimmest is still bright. Mercury is never bright, looks like an oncoming jet way off in the distance close to the horizon. Mercury never strays far from the sun so the vision would be close to sunset or sunrise. Still, it does make for an interesting look-see. Binoculars help in a big way.

Others have pointed out the twice-repeated mispronunciation of “ecliptic,” in the first couple minutes, so no sense repeating that. But just after 2 minutes, “Since each planet is orbiting the Sun at a different inclination, this makes the straight-line configuration impossible.” –– Not exactly. What actually makes it impossible, is that the lines of intersection of pairs of those planes, don’t all coincide. If they did, then the alignment would be possible, but only if all the planets could be at one of those two points in their orbits simultaneously, all on the same side of the Earth, which would still be nearly impossible. Well actually, it’s a bit more complicated than that, even. For an exact alignment, it’s necessary only that all of them be located at points in their respective orbits, that lie on a straight line in (3D) space. (Remember, the Sun doesn’t have to be in on the alignment; and it even shouldn’t be, if the object here is to be able to see all the planets from Earth!) That could be possible with orbital planes at all different orientations, but even then, the odds of that happening in a human lifetime would be worse than drawing to an outside straight flush, several times in a row, in straight poker. And it’s nearly certain that the actual orbital planes aren’t oriented to permit that alignment ever to occur. So the real goal is to find a time when all of them are within some small circle in the sky.

The statement that the other planets will not effect the Earth in any was in wrong. For one thing Jupiter has a big effect on the orbit of the Earth. It is called the Milankovitch cycles. Granted it runs at 400K year cycles, it still has an important effect on the earths climate. Now it wont be doom and gloom on that day, but the planets do have long term effects on the Earths climate. We have been in a long term warming cycle for 10K years. The effect of this has been the creation of farming and the creation of human civilization. Another ice age is predicted in about 25-50K years based on these cycles. However this does not include the effects of recent man made greenhouse effects, the near term effects which could be catastrophic, but in 50K years it most likely won’t matter because it will get really cold again.

Interesting, but there is 1 thing I do not understand. The alignment would have no effect on earth since the sun is the major force with, what was it 99%.
