The Washington Commanders have officially unveiled their new mascot, Major Tuddy, after 18 months of speculation and internet sleuthing. The 6-foot, 5-inch tall hog, from “Upper Marlboaro”, is instantly recognizable for his snout and the slanted elements of the stripes bordering the “W” are inspired by military rank insignia, helping to infuse the familiar mark with elements of the team’s new name. The team announced the new name and mascot after a two-year search, following waves of social protest over systemic issues.
The team returned to a striped helmet, using just one gold stripe down the center. The team’s new W logo is on both sides of the helmet. The team announced in the summer of 2020 that it would be leaving behind the name Redskins and begin the process of looking for a new nickname amid waves of social protest over systemic issues.
Major Tuddy was introduced on January 1, 2023, as an homage to the Hogs, Washington’s famed offensive line in the 1980s. The team called itself the “Washington Football Team” before rebranding as the Commanders in 2022. In November 2014, a demonstration against the Redskins name was launched, with the family of the Native American leader White Calf depicted in the old “racist” logo.
The Washington Commanders unveiled their new mascot, Major Tuddy, at halftime of Sunday’s 24-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns.

The Washington NFL franchise announced Monday that it will drop the “Redskins” name and Indian head logo immediately, …
Red Knights! That should be the new team name. Knights is a cool name for a football team and the word has the letters that spell ‘skins’. Also, the Knight in the logo could have a plume – which would resemble the feather. It’s a perfect concept that eliminates any reference to skin color or native Americans but keeps the word Red and allows for the plume to emanate from the circular logo much like the feather. The Knight should look realistic not cartoony and should be in profile.
