This game definitely has “Improvise Adapt Overcome” vibes. Basically, you’re forced to make the best of what you have. Something tells me this zombie virus or alien shape shifter or skinwalker situation happens to you on the fly on your first night, and now you have to improvise a way to take on these creatures as well as improvising caring for them. So like, while that cutting machine is likely used to cut up rations for the animals, it could also end up being what you use to dispose of animals that are too far gone, either to investigate the meat or to feed the off meat to the infected but not turned animals. But then, of course, it also looks like the process has room to improve, so it’s not like this is a tried and true process for taking care of monster animals, since the player accidentally releases one of those parasites while cutting meat for processing/studying, so the gameplay is likely one of the three: A) The virus changing every night to be a constantly changing threat B) The character knowing nothing about the virus, and so they have to experiment and learn more about it every night C) A mixture of the two, possibly because each animal’s virus acts different, like maybe the parasites of penguins are more active and can escape their hosts while the gorillas show little change until they attack you, leading to the heat camera being vital to see which animal has the parasite, etc.
The creepy thing is that zoochosis is a real thing. It’s when an animal’s behaviors change as a result of an infection (like rabies), except this specific condition is when the infection gradually turns the animal into a barely functioning vegetable. In this game, it looks they’re more like zombies with rabies. Still cool, though.
The reason why the kangaroos look so small and might be the reason why they don’t look that buff is because they might be wallabies and not kangaroos, wallabies are cousin marsupials to kangaroos. Again it only might be and if it’s not, then maybe it’s just the developers design choice to have a difference between the cute cuddly look to the monstrous look.
