Where Can I Find An Elden Ring Magic Katana?

The Uchigatana is a powerful early-game weapon in Elden Ring, available at various locations. The Moonveil Katana, a magical katana capable of melting bosses with its ranged skill, can be obtained by defeating the Magma Wyrm located in Gael Tunnel – Caelid. This katana is a magic-based weapon that requires 12 Strength, 18 Dexterity, and 23 Intelligence to wield. It is widely considered one of the best melee weapons for any sorcery build due to its unique stats, talismans, and upgrades.

To obtain the Moonveil Katana in Elden Ring, journey to Gael Tunnel in Caelid and defeat the Magma Wyrm in the dungeon’s boss room. Once defeated, you will automatically receive the unique Moonveil Katana, which can be found in your inventory. The Gael Tunnel is located on the edge of Limgrave and Caelid, and the Moonveil Katana can be found in Caelid, the dead and reddish zone to the east of the Limgrave starting area.

In this guide, we cover all Great Katana locations in Shadow of the Erdtree, including the Great Katana, Dragon-Hunter’s Great Katana, and Rakshasa’s Great Katana. The Moonveil Katana is a drop from the Magma Wyrm boss in the Caelid side of Gael Tunnel in Elden Ring.

  • Pro tip: Go farm some birds until you get 5-7 of their Four Toed Fowl Feet. Mix them with silver fireflies that you find in caves and some berries, and you’ll create a bunch of Silver Pickled Fowl Foot. Then go to the Stormveil gate, eat one, and then proceed to sneak around and take then all out (stealth kills are easiest and quickest). The Silver Fowl Foot will dramatically increase your chances of getting good loot (smithing stones Lordsworn’s Great Sword, gilded great shield, and their full armour set too. It’s a great early farm

  • The boss is super easy with a shield that blocks 100% physical, and something that does bleed! I have a article where I did it at the start of the game after picking up the Heater Shield from the merchant in the Mistwoods, and the Bleed ash of war from Fort Haight to the south of that. You can block any of it’s physical attacks, and even if it drains your whole stamina you will still have time to recover since it has long animations. Then just keep bleeding it until it dies. Definitely a great way to start any INT/DEX build! Also if you go bleed the giant “thing” far up northeast in Fort Faroth, you can get enough runes to level up enough to use it!

  • First time viewer, subscribed immediately. I appreciate the fact that you kept to the point and didn’t divert from it to add more time to the article. Thanks for the clear instructions, I’ve been trying to figure out where to find this katana ever since I got rekt by it from an invader, but I was trying to discover it on my own. Cheers!

  • Beat the boss first try I’m doing a mage set and need a close range weapon since I’m mid game and spells at super close distance become unreliable even the carion greatsword so I needed the best intelligence scaling weapon and it hasn’t let me down so far loving it and also love the short straight to the point tutorials

  • Thanks bro. I killed the magma dragon with base spell and level 27. Needed full FP bar 4 times. (22 mind stat and 23 int) The dragon is easy and slow. The only dangerous attacks are the gap close ones, when he rushes you. Except that, he can’t hit you if you have good positionning and you don’t greed by spamming spells. For other astrologists, aim the head.

  • I’m preparing to go into the academy to go face renalla and seeing how she’s mostly immune to magic damage i figured having something like the moonveil katana wouldn’t be a bad idea. Currently i’m redoing my mage build so i figured having the moonveil and lazuli glintstone sword as options for close quarters until i get the dark moon greatsword.

  • Bloodfang Hound Curved sword is better! Easily found early in the game and scales Str C and Dex B and has 55% bleed. Also has a cool flip back attack that can be followed by pushing forward after the backflip bleed attack to do a follow-up forward dash sweep attack…pretty cool and effective. I’ve maxed the sword upgrade to and and am dex/str build so at the moment am doing 396 + 345 attack damage. Easy to upgrade not much needed to use it and easy to come across early in the game…perfect weapon to carry you through the entire game.

  • Literally just got this before this article was posted. I was trapped in that area and accidentally walked into the boss room, almost lost 13k souls 😂 spent 2 hours trying to kill it, I suggest if you are low level and this happens, use status weapons that build up. I used Rediva blade made it bleed to death and finally beat it.

  • You really like unsheath. Definitely a cool ash. It’s what I started with as well. But let me give you a couple of tips. If you want to stick with things similar to it, but that invoke the same coolness and feel the same, I have two suggestions for you to seek out: 1. Another Ash of war called piercing fang. It can be gotten through a certain quest line. 2. A weapon called moonveil. From a cave south of the road when you enter Carlid (The Red hell zone you got teleported to). That’s all I’ll say on it.

  • I’d already planned on doing a dexterity/intelligence build. Found the Moonveil when exploring Caelid when I was definitely underleveled. Struggled against the Magma Wyrm with a +3 Great Epee, which was really tough and found the Moonveil. Didn’t know it was one of the most powerful weapons in the game until much later, and didn’t start spamming transient moonlight until I reached the grand lift of Rold

  • I’m only level 25 astrologer I didn’t stand a chance on this boss lol idk how you even got behind him. But he’s too quick and between the size of the cavern and the lava I don’t have enough time to cast even with meteorite staff. I only have 8/12 strength and dex anyway. Gonna have to be a late game item, oh well

  • After trying to microwave this guy several times with Comet Azur and getting barbecued every time, I realized he’s not very vulnerable to regular magic after seeing the loading screen tell me to try using blunt weapons on dragons. So I switched to rock sling with meteorite staff and machine gunned him into oblivion on the first try within 30 seconds. (as level 107 spellblade mage) Moral of the story: choose the right weapon for the job. I also used my most fire resistant armor to stay alive long enough to kill him, but mostly relied on dancing around him.

  • Some1 using this as a pure mage ? After getting the dex req is it oke to go on with int and never lvl dex again? Also what hand should u wield sword and what hand staff. I tried sword right but then if u jump on horse u dnt have ur staff in ur hand and i think staff is better for me when im on horse. Can some1 help me with these questions pls

  • if you want to help new players figure out where you are, just drop a marker on the map so we know where you enter Caelid. I have no idea where you started from and although I can get to Caelid, 5 seconds showing where you start on the map would be so helpful, A couple guide makers do a great job–this… plus the running around in circles during article capture in Caelid… isn’t helpful for new players.

  • So I’m an astrologer. I need a katana to take out this dragon for lots of runes to level up. Is there one early game I can grab and wield ? I have 8 strength but could level to 10 if I needed or whatever I needed. I could prob get this one if there isn’t another but I’d need to grind a little to use it

  • I could be wrong, but I think outside the speed of the weapon art. Why this is so easily one shot many players regardless of defense/vigor. Is perhaps it for some reason ignores most of players resistances. All I know is it doesn’t do as much when in PVE against any enemy with decent to high magic defense. Mind still absolutely powerful in PVE even against said enemies. Still I’m concerned because enough people will rightfully and wrongfully complain in pvp. The later “rebalance” might kill it in general as FromSoftware rarely do rebalancing/nerfing well… I hope if or when they do it is well thought out as to not destroy it in PVE and make it a joke for PVP. If they can implement a damage reduction to players or if there is a issue of it bypassing resistances to change that. I know at least in DS3 they did implement to a extent certain buffs being lessened in PVP only. Perhaps if can be implement to weapon arts without effecting PVE and etc would be best middle ground. Mind I do want a patch for certain weapons that currently aren’t scaling with stats at all. Especially the couple weapons that use Arcane that are atm kinda working improperly.

  • no lie, got stuck on this boss in the past, decided i didnt know what i was even doing in this gsme after 40ish hours, put the game down…then i watched pekora come back to this game, kill the thing and i thought to myself, “u know what? if she could do it, so can i” 20 min worth of tries later, got it! …cuz my jellyfish poisoned it and i guess the poison stayed the entire time i chipped away at its health with the bloodblade

  • OMG! THANK YOU FOR THIS article! This Katana is PERFECT for my NG+7 Vergil w No Mods Build! The primary two weapons he’s been using is the Moonveil and Hand of Malenia! When I learned of THIS one’s existance, I was like:’ I HAVE to get this, as soon as possible!’ This Katana can’t fit MORE right than it does! SO happy right now, Thank You again! (added to Elden RIng Playlist)

  • I’ll be honest. It’s such a bummer it’s not a light Greatsword. We don’t need another Moonveil and there are only thee LGs while one of them is a dual wielded! It doesn’t even look like katana to begin with. Why we don’t have an arcane katana, or a faith one. No, we need another God damn int/dex katana… It’s pretty good tho, I’m not going to lie 💙

  • So just wanted to put this out there but I’ve run across a bug where if you end up dying and also killing the npc with the sword it will bug out and not spawn the sword the next time you kill the npc since I assume the game thinks you picked up the sword the “first” time and will instead spawn a starlight shard.
