The Necromancer Amulet is a legendary enchanted amulet of immense power, once belonging to Mannimarco, the King of Worms. It can be found in Saarthal, Geirmund’s Hall, and Folgunthur. If the Dragonborn sells it to Calixto, the name becomes the “Necromancer Amulet”, otherwise it remains a quest item called “Strange Amulet”.
In Hjerim in Windhelm, players can find the Strange Amulet hidden under a pile of Beware the Butcher! pamphlets on a small set of shelves. Selling the amulet to Calixto is the only way to turn it into the Necromancer’s Amulet. If you reject Wuunferth’s offer, the strange amulet will remain a quest item, leaving it permanently assigned to your inventory.
Wuunferth will direct you to the real assassin (Calixto), who will find the Necromancer’s Amulet on his corpse. You have two options: show it to Wuunferth the Unliving and then sell it to Calixto before completing the quest. If you have a save before entering Hjerim, you can read Daynas Valen’s journal and notes in Folgunthur to learn the truth in the legend.
During the quest “Blood on the Ice” in Windhelm, players can find a “Strange Amulet” in the house Hjerm. Picking up the amulet seems optional, but it is part of a ritual to restore a dead person. Once you leave Hjerim, you must sell the strange amulet to Calixto. After selling it, talk to Viola and Jorlef, then head to Windhelm Jail and talk to Wuunferth. If you didn’t sell the amulet to Calixto, you can simply sell it to Calixto and confront the court wizard about necromancy.

How to identify a Strange Amulet in Skyrim?
The Dragonborn can keep an eight-sided jade amulet, described as a worn carving, and not sell it to Calixto. If the Dragonborn sells the amulet, it will be identified as the Necromancer Amulet. The amulet is circular and has a worn skull, but in-game, it is circular with a completely unworn skull. The Necromancer’s Amulet from The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is more accurate.
Bugs related to the Strange Amulet should be reported by reloading an old save, posting the bug report with the appropriate system template, and being descriptive when listing the bug and fixes. Avoid using first-person anecdotes or conversations in the description, as these discussions belong on the appropriate forum board.

Does the mysterious amulet do anything?
The Mysterious Amulet, a highly coveted item in the game, has been a subject of extensive debate due to its potential hidden effects. Is Hjerim a good house in Skyrim?
Hjerim is a purchasable home in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, located in the Valunstrad quarter of Windhelm. It features an arcane enchanter and an alchemy lab, and is near smithing facilities, a smelter, an alchemist’s shop, a general merchant, and the Windhelm fence. The house has two floors, spacious rooms, and a hidden chamber. It also houses a large armory with mannequins, display cases, shelves, and weapon racks.
The secret chamber, hidden behind a ground-floor wardrobe, is where the Butcher kept severed body parts for his intended reanimation. Purchasing the cleanup package can clear the bloodstained furnishings, allowing for upgrades to transform Hjerim into a combined Alchemy and Enchanting workshop.
Should I sell the amulet?
The Sentient Amulet, a rare item found in Baldur’s Gate 3, is a challenging item to acquire due to its suspicious nature. Acquiring it requires fighting a Lava Elemental, navigating environmental hazards, and opening a high DC lock. The spirit’s madness can lead to different outcomes and upgrades for the amulet, but both have risks. The player can choose to accept the spirit’s madness or refuse it, resulting in different outcomes and upgrades.
The Sentient Amulet stands out from other necklaces in the game due to its ability to communicate with the player. While equipping such items with suspicion is recommended for safe play in the Forgotten Realms, it’s not necessarily worth it. The ultimate payoff for the amulet’s story doesn’t come until Act 3 of Baldur’s Gate 3, making it difficult to make an informed decision when the amulet is first acquired.

Hey ESO here’s A story for you. I actually broke this quest and ruined it for myself as when I first came to Windhelm and was exploring the city I went into Calixtios shop and took the tour I then lock picked his chest and read the finishing story journal, so yea form then on when everybody spoke about the butcher on the streets I was like ‘it’s Calixtio’. I haven’t actually done the quest yet and am going to do so but the game bugged and I there’s was no dead girl in the grave yard (what a shame) so I’ll have to pick pocket the woman in the pub. Love your articles, they’re always a great laugh and I always find myself laughing aloud. Keep it up, your a great guy. Bert.
Is dawnguard required for this quest? And btw, one thing you might want to consider trying, letting the guy at market do his dirty work, and perhaps, talk to him afterwards. Is it possible to join him? You know, master the act of “flash magic” (I assume it means necromancery), perhaps get a strong folower, or two (with his wife – she’s gonna be a undead so she should be able to kill), and a rich friend who trades with jewelery (from what i understoods, he’s knows for that – that’s why guard sent you to him with a necklace). For a necromancer amulet, why not just picpoket guy after you’re on his side, it wasn’t eqquiped.
Hey ESO. Great article as usual. I have a question tho. Every time I get great armor, weapons and magical items that I can sell for thousands of gold, the vendors always have way less gold than what the item is worth. Where can I go where the gold is over flowing like a fountain of $$? Is there a place where stuff like that is sold for full price?
there’s a way to jump start the quest without waiting for the guards to investigate the graveyard. Make sure you have a hundred or more lock-picks and it doesn’t hurt to have some perks in lock picking. Go to hjerim and pick the lock, the lock is master level so it may take awhile to pick it. If successful, enter the house to start the quest. I found this to be a easy to start the quest since some people say you have enter and exit windhelm at least four times with a set amount of time to pass between each return to the city before the guards show up in the graveyard.
Okay so since nobody is being clear enough about how to start the blood on the ice Quest. I’m going to re ask the same questions that has been asked already. I’m on level 15 high elf, I’ve entered Windhelm countless times and there is no blood anywhere, no crowd of people in the cemetery, and no blood on the ice Quest to even be heard of….. now somebody please explain what it is I have to do to trigger this Quest.
