The Florida version was slightly longer and more elaborate than the California counterpart, with extra scenes such as the library and music room. Paul Frees recorded additional voice-overs, including the “Ghost Host” to accompany the extra scenes. The show building is larger due to the park’s ample space.
In the Foyer, there is a portrait of the Aging Man from the Disneyland version. The stretching rooms are not elevators but rather ceiling rises. My first memory of this ride is when you’re getting ready to board the “doom” buggy my dad was standing behind me and said, “look, everybody goes in – but nobody comes out” (because people exit in a different area and they are empty when you board) freaked me out then – but makes me smile every time I ride now
Living in FL with Disney passes, we went every weekend. This was my favorite ride. Rode it hundreds of times. But I only recently discovered that you get murdered in the ride and become their 1000th ghost. When you see the bride and she says “I do” you get pushed from the top window. It’s the part in the ride where you flip backwards. You see the window, the starry sky, and you land outside in the cemetery…this is where the celebration singing begins because you joined them. At the beginning, the narrator says you can make arrangements to stay at the end of the tour. You are murdered at the end of the tour. Did anyone know this? I found this out 2 days ago and came here to see the ride…and sure enough…it’s true! How awesome is that?
Great job keeping the camera steady. I usually get motion sickness perusal these types of articles. So cool being able to compare MK’s version with Disneyland’s. I’ve been riding Disneyland’s since the week it first opened. Curious if MK’s seasonal overlay is shown in this article. If so, I much prefer Disneyland’s overlay to this one. Oogie is missing, too.
Best quality article of HM I have ever seen. The monument at 16:38 has some good memories for us. When we took our daughters on their first trip we had them sit on the ledge in front of this monument for a photo opp. It became a tradition ever year. Then, when our daughters got married we made their husbands sit in the same spot for a photo. In 2023, my daughter wants to start the same tradition when she takes her two daughters for their first trip to Disney World and Haunted Mansion.
I love how the announcer/voice-over guy was imitating Vincent Price. I haven’t been able to go to any of the Disney parks since I was eleven, a visit for that specific birthday, and The Haunted Mansion remains a treasured memory. My favorite part has always been the ballroom, because I’d love to learn to dance like that. I know it’s a hologram, but I still stand by my point. You did an awesome job with how clear this recording is. (4/23/2033)
3:26 An interactive element added in 2011 after my (so far) only visit there in 1995. 7:46 Paul Frees as in California. Here in Disney World though WERe standing still, not sinking like Disney land and the roof is going up. 8:46 Cars start right after leaving the stretching rooms. We go by an art 🖼️ gallery just like Disneylands that we’d WALK by, 9 9:56 Here more rooms like marble busts and library are added 10:18 10:28 staircases everywhere 11:16 back to a creepy Anaheim element. Seen in All Haunted Mansions ghost No hatbox ghost like Cali, but at end we ride under madame, not leave to ride on ramp by her as at Walt Disney’s original
I was there in 1978 and 12 year’s old. What bothered me was the slow traveling and turning. I was so glad when the ride was over. And this article brought back a lot of memories I didn’t realize I still had, Me & my older sister were in one cart and my mom & younger sister in the other. I remember when The voice said not to lower the safety bar, I remember being scared that I was trapped and only it could release me. Maybe that’s why I always hated sitting in the middle of the dinner table during holiday dinners.
When I was a kid this was my favorite ride. I was very disappointed when I visited the park in 2007 and discovered they had change it to be more comical like the haunted mansion movie with Eddie Murphy. Comical made it much less interesting. After seeing this article I am glad to see they changed it back to a scary ride again. It just works better that way. Can’t wait to go back one day.
Fun Fact: Before Disney introduced the world to The Haunted Mansion Ride, people never REALLY decorated for Halloween at their house. Once people came to Disney and saw how cool the haunted mansion was, they wanted to try and recreate that spooky feel to their own home at Halloween. Soon, people were doing more than just a pumpkin on the front step…and it was all because of THIS ride.
I remember going on this when I was like 10 y.o., so 23 years ago, and I was so scared the whole time waiting in line. It was just the contrast on how it looked in the “lawn” versus how creepy the mansion looked. And I have always had an active imagination, so the water front property like bayou and the wolves howling the closer you got to the entrance of the mansion and just being low to the ground since I was short and not being able to see ahead of me, so the anticipation was killing me was all so nerve racking. Then when you step into the foyer and it gets cold and all I did the whole time was hold on my step dads pants and look down at the ground the whole time. I grew up with Resident Evil and Tales From the Crypt and so actually coming to something called the Haunted Mansion was just terrifying to me.
I remember the first time I rode this ride, I was around 10, so that would be 1992, and walking through the trail that led up to the mansion with all the tomb stones. Then when we got up at the front, a worker opened the door and said: “More bodies.” then we got into the stretching room and that scared me to no end, that and when the lights went out before we boarded the actual ride. Such a classic.
Did you know that there used to be pop-up ghosts that were in the attic? If not, let me explain. When the mansion ride first opened, they wanted a surprise. Pop up ghosts that scream at you, Walt Disney thought. So, they put them in! In 1995, music was added to the attic, and the pop up ghosts were dressed as grooms that shouted “I DO!” But in 2007, they were unfortunately removed from the ride, and the beating heart bride changed to another bride known as “Constance”. Do any of you miss them? Let me know!
Wow that’s a long line for haunted mansion granted I haven’t been in about 10 years but it was always quick it sucks they got rid of the old fastpass where u just stuck your ticket in and then went a on like 2 small line rides and come back in an hour isent it also funny how the still have the flash photography stuff in the ride now we just record it lol
My family and I loved this ride❤❤❤. My beloved mom passed away 4 yrs ago and I’m disabled so I ‘ll probably never be able to go there again 😢. Sometimes I wish I could go back in time or be a kid right now!! The people who get to enjoy this and other Disney rides don’t know how lucky they are!! I’m fantasizing that I’m a 16 year old boy with a Laura Marano poster above my bed and my mom and dad took me to Disney World where I enjoyed all of the rides!!! Why is life so cruel sometimes???😢😢😢😢
I don’t know … something feels ‘off’ about this ‘new’ version of the Haunted Mansion. The old version seemed a lot less disjointed. The old version also felt creepier … I feel like there was a lot more dust and cobwebs in the old mansion ride. Everything now feels too ‘new’ and ‘cartoonish’ in the mansion ride (post mid-2000’s). The old mansion felt like you were actually touring a creaky, old mansion that was neglected and not visited for scores of years. The newer version feels more like a Disney-ized version with crazy patterned wallpaper everywhere, lots of glow in the dark paint and cartoon-ish effects. It takes away the vintage/realistic appeal of the original ride, to me anyways. Still cool … but was a LOT cooler feeling when it felt like you were basically entering a ghost’s environment vs. a set designer’s environment. As they say … you can never go back again!
Welcome foolish mortals to the haunted mansion. I am your host your ghost host hmhmhmhmh. Our tour begins in this gallery here you see painting of some of our guest’s as they appeared in there corruptible mortal state kindly step all the way in to make room for every one there is no turning back now hmhmhmhm your capdabaliste power betrays an aura of forboating all Most as your disquieting a metaphorasis is this haunted room actully stretching or is it your imagination hmmmm? And considering this main observe vaction this camber has no windows and no doors hmhmhmhmh which give you challenge to find a way out hahahahahahahahahahaha of course there’s always my way it’s always my favorite part
It’s so creepy seeing it empty but great without people chatting over everything constantly! However I think they are getting worse at their sound as the ambience noise was way to loud, I couldn’t hear the ghost host in a lot of sections especially when you first get on and down the hall you can hear the echo in other doom buggy’s and the speal from the loading dock
I’ve never been able to build the courage to ride this ride. I love thrilling rides, heck I’d ride the fastest ride ever without a second thought, but for some reason my dumb baby brain makes me think I’m scared of this. I looks like a lot of fun but whenever I’m at Disney I think it’s too scary and chicken out. I hope one day I’ll be able to ride it without being terrified of it. And yes, I do get scared easily. You don’t have to point it out to me.
I recalled this ride actually being longer and looking back the recordings my dad did in 1997 it actually was much longer. Someone mentioned they changed this ride after the movie Haunted Mansion with Eddy Murphy. I’m so glad to have experienced the rides at Disney before so much of it was was changed after 2000s. 😎👍
I’ve only ridden the one at the california Disneyland. I noticed that the stretching room was not used in the current ride-through, very interesting. For those who haven’t ridden the cali Disneyland version, the stretching rooms are actually very large elevators, but descend very slowly. This makes it hard to tell unless you look at the floor of the doors. Disneyland in CA definitely can’t get away without the stretching room part of the ride or else there would likely just be a wall behind the second door.
i remember going on this… and i stopped the whole ride as i accidentally put my flash on, on my phone- “sorry we had to stop this ride, some bad spirits are haunting the area” LMAO. i also threw my bag on one of these and sat on it, in a rush and broke my hairbrush… fucking marvelous 🙂 this was in like 2017, i was 12 lmao, and am now 15 almost 16, that was MAD
I remember I was 8 it was my first ever time at Disney we got on this ride I was in a cart with my mom my dad was in another cart with my siblings we saw the dancing ghost and it looked so realistic I started sobbing for my dad (my biological dad died when I was younger) I don’t remember which dad I was calling for I just remember sobbing saying WHERES MY DAD WHERES DAD and my mom say he’s right there it was so much darker than what it is in the pic and then the guy saying you’ll leave with something attached to you just had me freaked out
Just on this ride and it was so disappointing. Way to dark, everything in the front of the ride you couldn’t see, all you could see were the chandeliers. Also, the crystal ball was all you could see. Nothing flying around her,. Completely disappointing because of the darkness, there seem to more to look at in earlier years. I don’t know if they changed it, but it is not the same. Same for the Pirates of the Caribbean. Completely disappointing.
What a horrible experience. NONSTOP people running the heads. As I remember it, this is one of t h e most iconic parts of the park. Yet now you can’t even set the mood because Disney is too busy making a buck to demand decency from its patrons. Disney parks only rank better than Bathtub World because they aren’t torturing any animals other than humans.
