Where Is The Ban On Tarot Reading?

A Pennsylvania shop that offers tarot readings has been visited by the police chief in Hanover to educate its owner about an archaic state law that prohibits fortune-telling. Most jurisdictions require psychics to obtain occupational licenses and pay taxes on the income derived from their services. In New York, all storefront psychics are technically breaking the law, but they are rarely prosecuted. Tarot reading has taken off on social media, but the art remains illegal in many states. Beck Lawrence, who goes by them/them, owns the Serpent’s Key Shoppe and Sanctuary. In some countries and states, it is actually illegal to provide medical, financial, or legal advice when you are not suitably qualified to do so.

A practicing witch for 13 years posted a sign in the shop saying that tarot card readings, which cost between $10 and $100, are for entertainment purposes only. However, due to an outlandish local law dating back to the 1860s, they were “threatened” by local police who warned them that reading tarot, which is illegal.

In Pennsylvania, fortune-telling and related arts of “witchcraft” are banned, with offenders facing punishments of up to a year behind bars and a $2,500 fine. Fortune-telling is at best a harmless way of entertainment, but at worst it can be perceived as a soft con.

Are tarot cards against Catholic religion?

Tarot cards and fortunetellers are practices that aim to discover the future, but only God knows the future. The Catholic Church teaches that God can reveal the future to prophets or saints, but a sound Christian attitude involves putting oneself in the hands of Providence and giving up unhealthy curiosity about it. The Catechism of the Catholic Church prohibits all forms of divination, including horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, omen interpretation, clairvoyance, and mediums, which conceal a desire for power over time, history, and other human beings, as well as a desire to conciliate hidden powers. These practices contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear owed to God alone.

People seeking guidance from tarot cards, Ouija boards, and fortunetellers may be dabbling in something forbidden by God, as they may open themselves up to demonic influence. The only way these practices can be “real” is if a demon works through them, giving false guidance about the future. This “real” practice is a real danger and can negatively influence us.

  • Shawn Mendes, Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan are all signed to island records. Makes sense why Shawn Mendes had a fall from grace. Island records is no longer putting money behind him anymore, they’re giving it to Sabrina and Chappell while giving him the boot. I know Ant doesn’t like DLs Lol, but we may need another reading on Shawn Mendes and Island records or just a reading on island records and find out the tea. And maybe a reading on Atlantic records too, they just laid off 50 of their artists and merging with other labels/companies.

  • You’re so right about Spotify not caring about Korean artists. For a long time, spotify wasn’t even available in Korea, and once it was, no one was making the switch from their preferred streaming service to spotify. If I remember correctly, from when I worked in the Korean music industry, we heard Spotify was losing so much money, and were considering shutting down their Korean branch about less than a year after they had launch (2021, I believe?) They thought they were going to see so much money from the kpop artists, without realizing that Korean streaming services and the record labels were not going to let go of the iron grip they have on their cash cows. Japan is also like this but even worse. Also, you TOTALLY hit the nail on the head that there are people who are kpop fans and are in powerful positions (most of them grew up with 1st/2nd gen kpop). Yeah, younger fans pull in the numbers on music articles and streaming services, but the older, corporate girlies (gn) are the ones pulling the strings to have kpop artists at western award shows, or performing stateside, etc. etc.

  • I was listening to pop songs from 2000s-2013 ish and like I remember when I was younger when I used to LOVE MUSIC. Listening to those songs gave me a flashback to WHY and the feeling of loving music. It sounded good. Now the pop songs sound like they have no soul, no creativity, no flare. It feels very fake and I just cannot love POP like I used to. Its disappointing. Everything is just for short fame satisfactory and quick bag. Music in general right now actually.

  • HOW COME can you forget about Charlie XCX!? She’s SOOOOO FUCKING HUGE this year that even me, as someone who doesn’t follow the new music for years know her brat album, HOW COME that you can forget about her!? I’m curious about her numbers if we’re talking about this subject, even though I don’t really use Spotify and don’t even know that people talking about this, so… yeah. And I’m curious about how the music industry is ACTUALLY like, and how dirty or scary that it actually is or something, can you do a reading about that? As someone who wants me become a singer/producer/dancer in the future, I wanna understand that more!!! Even though I’m kinda sure that I don’t wanna sign to the major lebels or something from what I’ve heard from them? So yeah.

  • I knew something was fishy af with Tay🐪 when she was number one listened artist on my Spotify wrap up last year even though I only enjoyed one song of hers and had it on repeat back in August of that same year. One song is not for a number one listened artist Spotify is bugging just like the Scammies 🙄

  • For everyone wondering, payola is a very interesting term currently used because it’s been co-opted by fans to diss other fans and artists. Everyone does payola. The famous quote “it’s not about what you know but who you know” in business is basically payola. In the past, the people who held the power besides label execs were radios. If you played nice with them, they’ll spin your record more. It’s essentially networking. The og argument is, there should be none of this at all and let the popularity of a song/album speak for itself. Unfortunately, this is and never will be that reality. There is always privilege and there is always money. And that will always put people in front of others. In an ideal world, I wish this wouldn’t happen, but it’s just how it works. I always find it interesting when used as an insult because…don’t you technically want your fave to do this? Bc if they do, it will mean they perform better. They’ll gain access to a bigger audience. Maybe I’m playing devil’s advocate though. Spotify CEO definitely is in an interesting position bc streaming basically marked a potential limit to this kind of thing. You curate your own playlist/radio with things you like. The problem is, as long as there’s discovery option (a place where you can find new songs/artists to listen and spin), there will be payola as there needs to be playlisting. And to get onto those playlists….well

  • I feel like Sabrina’s fame is forced. She has been in the industry for 10 years and her tops hits are still pretty mid in comparison to other artist. Even her brand doesn’t feel very unique or authentic. She has a lot of sounds going on – r&b, pop, country?? I feel like it started with Taylor inviting her on tour after the Olivia beef, and then from there, using Taylor’s resources to elevate her career. The music alone wouldn’t cut it.

  • I can so understand why Spotify looks the other way since they remember what she did with Apple Itunes and all that drama with how much money she was getting from her songs. It doesn’t surprised that older BTS fan control behind the scene. I love Ant’s laughing at the tea. I wonder about Charlie xcx number. Poor guy.

  • How about Bruno Mars Ant? Recently, he outstreamed Taylor and he has over 1 million streams every day and he has now reached 101M thanks to Die With A Smile. Pop fans are accusing him of payola on streaming but some are saying it’s organic. There are two tarot readers also said Taylor is secretly jealous of him and another one said he will encounter a bad blood/feud with her soon

  • i DO think a fuckton of money is being spent on sabrina. it gives future nostalgia. there is no way dua lipa made her label a dime back in 2020, because they spent SO much on forcing us all to listen to her hits. sure, the songs were big and we gave them a lot of money back, but the marketing costs have to be 9 digits and it takes so much to turn a profit. and sabrina is that, all over again. we would probably have our jaws on the floor if her label were fiscally transparent with us about the spotify strategies etc.

  • Love these readings that expose the music industry and how it all works behind the scenes ! Could you do a reading about closeting in the music industry ? If it’s that common, why they do it, how far they can go to force the artists to stay closeted or how much it’s actually the artists themselves “choosing” to stay closeted for their image and career

  • the part you mentioned the label reusing olivia’s tactics and using for other pop girlies. i thought about sabrina and the love triangle album. because love short n sweet but the whole thing is basically about shawn and her christmas album and they weren’t even official. like girl, you liked him THAT much? or are you pulling out all the stops to be famous. but it worked💅

  • Ok im gonna be brutally honest – general audience is starved for joy in art, none of the pop acts have been working because everyone tried to be sad girl Lana, Taylor is in another stratosphere now these are not her peers anymore and people need to get over that, Sabrina and Chappel are liked because they are bringing back the joyous pop and drama so 🤷‍♀️

  • 13:32 I think you should do reading on this, because there are different members and not all of them are doing the same numbers, and I think it goes beyond fans being unhinged because there are have been some evidences about the fans buying fake streams for certain members and they’re I believe not armys but the solo stans of the members, and yes this confirmed my suspicion that the company really has nothing to do with this.

  • It’s obvious since Lover that Taylor is paying farm listen and bots. Remember when her song willow went from #1 to #38 in minutes? Spotify isn’t scared of Taylor, that’s a joke. Spotify is (Allegedly) being paid by almost every label the issue with Taylor is she pays and overdoes everything plus 1000

  • Can you do one on Megan the stallion album release? Cause apparently she paid for streams on Spotify and they took some back but if it was legit she had a big first week… Also I wonder if it’s Taylor or her team that’s making these requests and changes Also I love GaGa and Bruno’s song… it’s not for everyone but her vocals are vocaling

  • 8:03 if you just look at that spread right here, its wild how those cards are almost an exact reflection of each other, the middle cards being on horses, the end cards having the row of cups above the figures, the only differences are that one is light and the other dark. Love it when the cards start getting fancy with it ♥

  • 18:44 I have a feeling that she’s on to the industry about this and so is her team. I would love a reading on her career and her relationship with Louis Partridge. Partridge in IMO is PR bait to lure in a bigger star for her to date and eventually marry. I did my own reading a while back and the cards say that he was handpicked specifically to make someone jealous, i.e the bigger star.

  • I believe that a lot of money involved in the music industry; I’m sure the movie industry as well but the MUSIC industry in particular, the money is from SHADY people, practices, companies, corporations etc, and unfortunately, you can say I’m bat shit crazy but I feel and see and in my gut know that a lot of this money is coming from the trafficking of children, adults, also drugs. I think they clean the money through clothing companies and alcohol brands that travel all around the world and that’s a easy way for them to traffic humans and drugs. Ant you’re right the labels don’t have that much money and the artists sign bad deals and by the time they drop and album and streams don’t generate a lot of money and they spend money on the artist and also the promotions, that if the artist doesn’t do that well they lose out on money and then the artist is not only broke but they owe money and owe labels albums and essentially their time. This is why some artists are worth more dead than alive as well! When an artist dies people start streaming their music and then they make merchandise and movies for years to come. In a lot of entertainment contracts you sign away your creativity into what they call “perpetuity” and that’s basically saying “well after you’re dead we still own you and money generated of anything in your likeness after your death is ours” ☠️ PERPETUITY NEVER SIGN ONE OF THOSE ⛔️

  • Taylor is one of ogs for her time. We left the 90s with a lot of bands, she was one of the biggest women for people of that era. Olivia is a generic angsty teenager and I don’t want to keep hearing the same music from her. I have Avril. There’s much better pop punk out there. It’s just a bit eh 🤷🏼‍♀️ Sabrina is too much like Taylor. Limited range. Boy crazy lyrics. Very cutesy. Polished articles. Gorgeous red carpet dresses. I’m bored. I can’t remember who else was mentioned so there ya go. Chapel is out in front on her own. She hits a lot of marks but she does it all on her own, in her own way. She’s unique without being too weird, she’s poppy without being too generic, she’s angry but with out the boring teenage angst, she’s got genuine relationships to right and reflect on because she’s come in with fame at 25, not 17. She has lived experience, not a pushy stage mum trying to get her to the front of the cue. I can’t relate to a disney kid. But I can relate to someone who actually had to slum it in donut shops to get her dreams made. She’s ice cold fucking refreshing and it so nice to see something different.

  • Sooo much astroturfing happens with pop music because people buy into this rags to riches overnight superstardom narrative and business executives profit off it, tale as old as time. I like Chappell and Sabrina and love that fun campy pop is back but they’re both on the same label that was previously in debt and now has enough dollars to fund two major stars? No lol

  • Songs get very little money per stream and with autoplay that is reduced even more. I do think Sabrinaa songs have been put on autoplay since nonsense blew up out of nowhere . Nothing fraudelent about it but not organic either. I think they are using Dua as the blueprint more than olivia. When you start to use autoplay and then wants to go back to the regular deals reality might catch up and they have to do that at some point to cover costs.

  • I’m done with Spotify, I always thought I couldn’t figure it out because they kept playing stuff that wasn’t on my playlist. And then I block it and they’d still play it. So anyways, I thought I sucked up Spotify and left permanently number of years ago. I have a paid Pandora that I use at work That I can use at home, so, that is still trusty. Because my husband‘s a developer we get Apple Music. That’s where I make playlists of songs I don’t personally own. But honestly, I’ve been getting back into CDs and it is so freaking fun. I have kids and they don’t have devices, so if they wanna listen to an album or specific artist, they really can’t unless I play it for them on my phone. But now I’ve been buying CDs, which you can get for cheap, and then they can Play it however much they want. The radio is OK, it’s the same as it always was. But they just play the same things over and over regardless of the genre. Best part is that we have a vintage computer that we can burn CDs on. My oldest kid burnt his first CD and thought it was the coolest thing in the whole world. It’s a little tricky cause you have to transfer files so he can’t do the whole thing by himself. Anyways, why is music so hard to listen to nowadays? It is missing the sparkle that music in the past used to have. Or maybe I’m just one of those people that feel like this is one area that the past actually excel that better than now

  • Would love to see a full scale BTS reading, with the whole Suga scooter fiasco thing. It’s settled, but it would be interesting to see if it was a set up or intentionally blown up, and if so why. There’s speculations that the wife of the prime minister had a scandal over a dior bag, and the media tried to overshadow those news… So this would be a reading that would be right up your alley. You could also touch on the drama with the Minji CEO. I still can’t wrap my head around what went down there… but Hybe reveived a LOT of hate. I’d love an explanation.

  • There’s articles on TikTok exposing these farms that ghost listens or likes I wouldn’t be shocked. And tbh Sabrina carpenter has randomly popped up playing on my alexa sometimes too I’m like wtf I don’t listen to any of her music why is it playing. I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s Scientology funneling money in her in hopes she’ll be the face of them for the new generation 👁️👄👁️ it’s been hinted on blinds heavily that they’re hounding her.

  • Out of the 3 Chappell is the one I’m consistently listening too. On the smart shuffle that I also do play an out if I’m not specifically searching for an artist or song, I will say Sabrina more so than Taylor is constantly coming up. I there is like 4 viral songs of Sabrina I like bc they have gone viral bc she’s an okay artist for me. There is nothing that stand out from her. I agree she is decent and I don’t dislike her but I don’t get it. The Tate artist lol as been the one grabbing my attention in pop genre so maybe they should be looking at her as the pop savior lol 😂

  • Army here (BTS’ Fandom) and Spotify only recently launched in Korea. They primarily use their own streaming services and they are definitely trying to promote Spotify to Korea with KPOP but I’m pretty sure its not working. And YES, we are the unhinged. We love those boys DOWN. There’s a reason they thank us so much for our support and it’s not simply just to cater to us all the time.

  • sorry antphrodite but Olivia is here to stay, her numbers a faaarrr from fraudulent & in fact they are organic & real. she has 700K+ people in her queue for her new tour show, her streams from both of her albums are stable, she has BROKE & SET many records with only 2 albums. she also did all of that without remixes are versions & mind you SHE IS ONLY 21 YEARS OLD with 3 grammys…. sorry but she isn’t going anywhere & just because new girlies are getting there chance doesn’t mean that the industry is over her. there can be more than one it girl in the music industry sis.

  • I would love if you did a reading on Hyuna. She has had such a hard downfall, and her doubling down on wanting to marry that guy. Who had friends in the Burning Sun Scandal, and he had the nerve to talk crap about women getting SA’d. Has made her career flop so hard. Would love to get to know the really tea as to why. She wants to marry him so bad

  • I don’t think she would of liked losing awards and her #1 positions on the charts by being beaten by the BTS boys, namely JK and JIMIN … well get over it TS you cant have the American music industry pander to your every whim all the time and cheat for you at award shows … allegedly if she can’t win fairly then she doesn’t DESERVE to win, there’s only one winner … is SC going to be a clone of TS she dresses like her, not that she has much on just like TS they probably wear more to bed than they do on stage …

  • Also I like Sabrina as a person but I do not like the Scientology cult I think with the music industry it’s been changing the last 30 years there’s no nobody authentic anymore and I’m sure there is a few but it’s either your industry plant which what they’re doing with Sabrina or I spice and it’s just I like the music but it’s just not the way it used to anymore it’s completely different

  • bts gets no support from american media because most of the money goes to them and they refuse to play the game so we fans do the work to promo them etc. because we had to do that their whole career (their label used to be baby small, never from a big label) so it’s less so we are that unhinged and more so we as fans need to take it into our own hands and bts has a super strong and loyal fanbase, antis will say it’s ‘cheating’ but bts sell out stadium tours tickets go out of stock in like .1 seconds it’s a huge and strong, loyal fanbase which majority of artists don’t have a lot of them you know a couple of hits and okay next bts fans know everything from bts the industry hates it because they get no profit from it, most of it goes to the boys billie is popular but doesn’t have a fanbase like army (and i like billie so this is no shade, i can say this about 95% of artists) and yes, bts has fans of all ages i’ve never been in a fandom so diverse but i could see some more important people trying to help promo them because again, they don’t get that from america media so we do it FOR them when the industry hates your faves you do something
