That moment they saw the veil torn and broke down crying hit me so deep. No one else could have torn a 60 ft/4-5 inch thick veil that separated the Holy of Holies from the rest of the temple but God. The theatre was packed and everybody stood still when it ended – it caused such an impression in me, that I could not drive back home, my daughter did it for me. She and my wife had gone to another theatre of the mall, in fear of the sad story. They said I was pale and silent all the way home.

He always knew the truth deep down especially after seeing and witnessing what they were doing to Jesus for no apparent reason and after having his vision restored by Jesus blood, he was converted right then and there at the foot of the cross. Even after he was tortured and crucified he still performed a miracle. It goes to show that he will fight for every single one of us regardless of who, what, when, and where. It’s so beautiful.
I watched this for the first time 2 years ago, and I graduated college with a film degree. I could not look at this movie like a critic…through all the sufferings Jesus endured for us, I actually teared up and mourned both during and after the movie, when I slept. This movie will never substitute for the scriptures, but it leaves a very important impression in our hearts: that we are to walk in Him, and receive His mercy that He gave openly and freely up on that cross that fateful day; the day He took up all the sins of the world (then, now, and forever), and defied death forever, for us all. What majesty and what power and love He demonstrated on that cross. I truly cannot recommend this movie anymore to any Christian. It’s just THAT powerful and moving.

Only the high priest could go to God once a year behind the curtain, and if there weren’t enough animal sacrifices then he’d drop dead on the spot. Now, we all have access to God 24/7. The actors and actresses in this film deserve a big recognition for bringing back to life about the events that happened in Jesus’ last hours here on earth. This is my favorite biblical film so far and of course kudos to Mel Gibson for making this a masterpiece even if it gave me a trauma during my childhood🥲

If you’re lost, in this world, if you question so much or you are angry or confused, look no further, live as He did, sacrifice yourself for something that would help others around you, give of yourself what you can, there is your reward and there is your salvation. We live in a time when nothing is getting better for us in this world, it seems to me that humanity is bursting at the seams. This film meant so much to me, not just because I am Christian and love Jesus, but also because I am human and live with others around me, so much suffering and pain, we can all do something for someone else in some way. I remember when I went to see this film after it came out in 2004. I went in the evening and I literally was the only person in the entire theater to watch this. The scourging and nailing to the cross scenes made me literally just shout out loud and turn in my seat. It was very hard to watch this but I realized that the sins of all of mankind caused Jesus passion and death!!

To think that happened ..I have a very hard time perusal this movie. To know what he went through. To see his mom standing at the foot of the cross, seeing her baby die in a horrible manner. For some reason my dad showed this film to me and my sister when we were about 8 and 6 respectively. Of course the horrid violence towards Christ (I grew up Catholic, going to Church on Sundays and becoming an alter server) made me weep uncontrollably. Watching Jesus go through such unimaginable suffering for our sins is truly heart-wrenching. It’s a powerful reminder of the depth of His love and sacrifice. I have to admit, I always tear up whenever I watch this part of the movie. It’s a poignant portrayal of the ultimate act of selflessness. May we never forget the gravity of His sacrifice and the importance of embracing His message of redemption. Ever since a little girl, the imagine of our Lord on the cross broke my heart. When I became Catholic, I still cry as the Holy Sacrament is given… knowing my sins were a part of why He came down, in love! for us, and suffered, for us. And look at the world. When I watched the flogging scene, I was horrified, and when the soldiers just kept going, I wanted to scream for them to stop, but knowing the story, there was nothing I could do. Definitely the saddest yeti most powerful movie I’ve ever seen. When i saw it at the movies when it came out, there was total silence when it ended. That’s the effect it had on everyone. They managed to bring back old movies to theaters and cinemas like Titanic. I wish they can also bring back this very powerful movie so that everyone can see how our lord and saviour Jesus Christ redeemed us through his blood. To watch the Passion is like perusal your best friend being tortured. When this came out I remember kneeling on that disgusting movie house floor, but I felt I couldn’t sit, nor stand. My tears were flowing, my Spirit heavy. I went back again and again. Oh Lord, what You have done for mankind was amazing and so worthy of all of our Praise. As an actor, I couldn’t even imagine playing some of these roles, but then my past reminded me that I did play these roles before I was found by Him. Lord Jesus, thank You for your Mercy, Your Grace, and Your sacrifice.
When they flailed the character Christ in this movie I wept . I understood that every person tortured, killed and exterminated by tyranny was on that post with him, both past and future . The most powerful and profound moment in movie history . When you see the injustices of powerful people, you see them holding the lash . I saw this movie with my family long time and I was sobbing unstop. Jesus died to save us from the sin or forgive them for killing. At first I hated the priests for killing Jesus but my father once said that hate leads to killing and hate will never get you peace for what happen so I believe my dad but sometimes it’s so hard to not hate someone who thinks they are better than everyone. When I felt anger or hate toward those who think thay are better, I would just yelled at them or cuss at them for being shallow mind but if we let the hate control us, we will never find peace so we have to forgive those who curses on us. Was perusal this at a friend’s house one time. Her niece, a nonbeliever, was near tears during the flogging scene. “Why is that man being beaten like that?” Simultaneously my friend and i said, “For you. He did it for you!” It presented an opportunity to share the gospel with her. She didn’t become a christian that day but surely a major seed was planted.

They were crying towards the end, but I didn’t cry and was wondering what’s wrong with me that I’m not crying. Dramatic scenes always seem to convince humans of many things. However, the most convincing fact that Jesus rose from the dead is not some drama. It is that the disciples, the very ones who abandoned Him and ran away when the Romans tried to round them up after arresting Jesus, came back and preached His Word, almost everyone to their deaths. No laws, threats, commands or order could stop them from pursuing that task. They learned something after Jesus was crucified that no bullying or death threats could stop – they experienced the risen Lord. After that, it did not matter what man said. So, they went to their deaths, some the most gruesome such as being sawn in half, crucified (upside down, in the case of Peter), skinned alive etc. This to me is the greatest proof of the risen Christ!

I watch this movie every Easter Friday, it’s one of the most powerful, evocative, moving, movies ever made, in my humble opinion it’s cinematic perfection, I know that any historical movie can never be 100 % accurate as none of us were there at that time, but this movie is as close & realistic as it can get, the scene with the teardrop falling from God causing the earthquake is just a beautiful thought put onto screen. Also for me the way satan was portrayed was by far the the most authentic on the screen, none of the hollywood big red horns, holding a trident, all the clichés that have built up over the millennia, just always in the background, androgynous, mocking, staying away from Mary, who along with Jesus are the only ones who can see it. I’ve read that there’s a sequel in the works, if so I believe it’ll be just as powerful, and have the same impact as the passion movie had & still has.
I am Muslim and i remember perusal this movie when i was a child, even as a young child i cried when i saw all the suffering that Jesus went through to carry the righteous word of God and guide people. His story and his suffering remind me of Imam Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Mohammed (pbuh). Imam Hussain was also tortured with his family and children to guide people. May God keep us all believers on the righteous path that these holy figures died and endured to keep us on. 🙏🏻 ❤
The whole host of Heaven’s angels, as the late Billy Graham stated, had drawn their swords, ready to come deliver Christ, the Living Word of God, part of the Triune Godhead from everlasting to everlasting, our very God made incarnate in flesh, and wipe this planet out of existence. For even daring to think of doing such a thing to the Creator of the Universe. With one word Yeshua could have summoned legion upon legion of an angelic army to his side at any point. When He was betrayed and arrested. When He was falsely accused and being beaten. When He was mercilessly scourged by the Roman soldiers, insulted and spat upon. While He was crashing to the ground under the weight of the cross carried. When they raised their hammer to drive those spikes though Him and into the wood. While He hung there in agony pouring out His blood for hours. With just one word at any time. Instead, our Lord said Father, forgive them, they know not what they do. Our Lord thought of each and every single one of us and His undying love for us, and endured till the end. It is FINISHED! What a love! What a God! Paying the price Himself to reconcile us to the righteousness required to be in the presence of a just and Holy God, for it is a righteousness we could never achieve ourselves. He chose the path to the cross, in all of its cursed wretchedness and naked shame, from before the foundation of the world, for us. May we endeavor to bear our crosses for Him.
Praise be to him. I love movies and I tend to always notice the little things in certain scenes and when Cassius stabbed Jesus with the Spear of Destiny and His blood sprayed on him and he just looked up at him and fell to his knees and couldn’t take his eyes off of him. It was such a great but subtle addition to the scene. You could already see how troubled he was as he kept looking at Mary prior to that.
It’s an amazing tribute to Gibson’s faith. And absolutely accurate to the written word. Mel was demonised at the time for being extremist & anti-Semitic. For telling the truth as it is written & believed. Many are offended by this because it forces them to question their self-centred lives. This movie is a turning point in my life, it brought me back to my faith after being forced to turn my back on it for the love of my children and the intolerance of my now ex-wife.
The most heart wrenching part of the movie, yet, the saddest fact is many people today still reject Jesus, and Gods free gift. There will NEVER be a more important decision in your life as this decision of accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior. A good part of your life may have been ruined by making wrong decisions but here is where you can atone for them for this decision is based on eternity with God, or without him.
I went by myself to see this in theaters. I am not at all religious though I have no problem with believing that a man by the name of Jesus who was a good and virtuous person existed. I was in tears from the moment the torture began and I distinctly recall wondering how any person who considers themselves to be a human being could possibly do such horrific things to another human being and manage to sleep at night. Even if the depiction of his torture and crucifixion was dramatized and exaggerated such that it is depicted in this movie to be a thousand times worse than what actually might have taken place in reality, the very idea of it would still haunt me. Human beings are capable of unspeakable evil but it’s hard to imagine how anything could ever come close to how terrible this must have been.
My hope is to live in the place Jesus prepared for His children. I don’t want to be in this world anymore,everytime i wake up i am hoping today is the day to go home. I want to have a life in heaven together with the people i asked in my prayers.. my dream is to praise Jesus same time with the people in my prayers. I hope and pray it wont take much any longer to be with Jesus.
I still remember the day my family and I went to go watch this movie at the theater. I was about 10 years old and it was a rainy night. My mom only knew Spanish and she didn’t even like going to the theater but that day she went. My oldest brother (who is really like a father to me) took us and I, at such a young age, cried throughout the beating scene. Such a poweful movie but most powerful is He who died for our sins. All Glory to Him! 🙌

You read the Gospels and try to imagine what Jesus living on earth must have been like. And what His death must have been like. This movie does a great job illustrating the possibilities. And cracking the Jews “vanity project” (the 2nd temple), was a great addition. The Bible says the veil was rent (torn) leading to the (empty) Holy of Holies – and that’s all that matters. Amen.
