  • Me: “Who’s a good boy? You are! Yes you are!” Dog: “Can you email me about that? Sorry I meant woof.” Edit: I’m so shook that this has 16k likes now omg. I literally wrote this when I was 14 haha and now I’m 19. It’s really weird seeing people reply even four years later xD Edit 2: I am 20 now oof. AgInG is FUn. Anyways it is still mildly amusing when I receive random notifications. Hope you all are having a good day 🙂

  • One way to tell if I’m lying personally is that when I lie am extremely vague, I’ll give a short and straight answer. When I’m telling the truth I tend to flesh it out and provide every minor detail and stumble over myself to get everything in….which is quite the opposite for everyone else who tend to over explain their lie 😂

  • Try this: Ask if they’re lying and look them in the eye. If they keep staring without blinking or looking away it’s most likely a lie. (We’ve been conditioned to think looking away or laughing is lying for some reason and ironically, people who do lie always keep a neutral face and look you in the eyes without blinking. Obviously this won’t work all the time but most of the time is better than 50/50 right?)

  • Would it also work if you just accused someone of lying when you thought they were? If they were, then maybe they’d just give it up or act more uncomfortable/rushed. If they weren’t, then maybe they’d act more concerned. Also, one way that I convince someone I’m not lying is I tell them, “You don’t have to believe me for it to be true. What happened happened.” Since if you’re not believed, it’s not your problem.

  • This is pretty good. You gave the methodology, and the % of each class (results) and gave clues to find the original research. You just failed to indicate the sample size, which is quite a big deal, but better than most of your articles. At least we now have a basis for accepting/rejecting your advice. Do more articles like these.

  • In some cases, this can also be useful when people are telling the truth. Telling the truth, but don’t want that truth recorded because it could be used against them. I found it useful back before email even existed (I’m so old this was a time that dinosaurs walked the earth). It was an issue over whether I, as designer, had the right to insist our local drawing office broke with standard practise laid down by the uber-drawing office. I pointed out the law (this really was a legal requirement) and the contract with the client were on my side. The drawing office guy pointed to his procedures and said he wasn’t going to break them because that would land him in trouble with the uber-drawing office. I asked him to send me a memo to that effect, that way I’d be covered legally (I knew it was insufficient to cover me fully but gambled he wouldn’t be certain). I left it up to him to figure out that if I was covered and things went bad then he’d been in deep poo (actually, we’d both have been in deep poo, but no point confusing him). A couple of days later, he capitulated. 6 months later, the uber-drawing office changed their standards. It really shouldn’t have been necessary for me to go down that route. The company worked to tight QA standards (imposed by the client, which was the UK military), so it shouldn’t have needed a lowly engineer to buck the system because the system should have been on top of it. But it was a useful trick to know (actually, I didn’t know it beforehand, I came up with it on the spot).

  • I must lead a “special” life (compared to the folks discussed in this)- I can’t recall anyone telling me a significant lie about anything important enough for me to know or care about within the last few months, at least. I certainly don’t have anything to lie to anybody about. Generally, if I don’t want someone to know something, I just don’t talk about it
