Rosemary Armao, a lifelong journalist, professor, journalist, and blogger, recently announced her retirement from the University at Albany. Born on October 12, 1950, in Troy, New York, Armao was an American educator, editor, and journalist who led investigative reporting teams in the United States and Eastern Europe. She is the host of the podcast “An Armao on the Brink” and has been involved in journalism for over 60 years.
Armao is an assistant professor in UAlbany’s Journalism Program, where she teaches newswriting, investigative reporting, international journalism, and media ethics. She has also hosted an excellent podcast on the war in Ukraine with experts immersed in reporting it. The group Rosemary used to be part of would focus more on Ukraine.
Armao has been in hot water for six months over a harsh email to a reader. In June, Armao received a letter from a reader expressing her frustration with her job and the lack of pay for her work.
Armao’s decision to retire comes as a shock to many at WAMC, as she had previously been a regular panelist on “The Roundtable”. She has also been involved in various projects, including a podcast on the war in Ukraine and a series of correspondence with colleagues, friends, students, fans, associations, and periodicals.
