Dispel Magic is a powerful ability in PvP combat that removes most magical buffs and debuffs, stopping a steadily damaging effect from oneself or an ally. It requires a Priest level 18 and a 30 yd range. Some classes can dispel poison/disease/curse, with exceptions for Priests (even Shadow) who can mass dispel magic on a longer CD. Priests can cure magic and disease, Paladins can cure magic, disease, and poison, Druids can cure Poison and Curse, Priest and Paladins and Shammys can cleanse these, and Poisons (Spiders/Rogues) can be cleansed by Shamans and Druids.
Dispel Capabilities are specific abilities that can only be removed by priests and paladins, rather than all healers. Mass dispelling is possible for Priest (magic), Monk healers (disease, magic, poison), Shaman (poison), and Evoker can spec into dispelling everything. In the Discipline Abilities category, Dispel Magic removes diseases (outside of Shadowform), offensive magic, and defensive magic. Mage, Hunter, and Warlock retain their current dispel mechanics.
Holy/Disc priests benefit from their dispel magic removing 2 effects. Dispel Magic is a priest class talent that removes one magical buff from an enemy target, removing 2 magic effects or purging 2 magic effects for only 350 mana. This essentially removes 60 of warlock/spriest dmg, boomkins, mages, etc.

Which classes can dispel magic wow classic?
Prior to the expansion of Cataclysm, dispel abilities were distributed differently among classes, with magic effects only being removed by priests and paladins. This left the Horde with only one defensive magic dispel class. Dispel mechanics ensured that dispels would not cast on targets with no effects to remove, preventing mana consumption and global cooldown triggers. Upgraded dispel abilities with passive effects, such as Abolish Disease and Abolish Poison, provided a significant advantage for certain classes.
These abilities dispel any further applied effects for 12 seconds and allow a single shaman to dispel multiple effects with one press, saving mana and GCDS. Blizzard considered dispels “trivial” due to these factors, leading to changes in Cataclysm to better distribute dispels, increase their opportunity cost, and require more player input for effective use.

Who can remove curses in WoW Classic?
In World of Warcraft, buffs and debuffs have a dispel type, which indicates how the effect can be removed. There are four dispel types: Curse (for Warlocks), Disease (for Mobs), and Paladins (for Paladins, Priests, and Shamans). Curses are typically caused by mobs, while Diseases are caused by certain Death Knight abilities. With the recent news surrounding a priest who was banned for 6 months for dispelling a livestreamer on Classic WoW, I just …
The article is based on this recent event: redd.it/hsqdk2 I decided yesterday to pause my work on my main article, when I heard about this, cause I found it pretty funny. Especially with the recent article I uploaded ( youtu.be/i4xXbh7unXo ), where a priest dispells a person. I just thought that the format of that segment could fit so well with this case as well, that I just thought I’d make this quick shitpost 🙂 What do you guys think about this whole situation?
Well now, this is just ridiculous… 6 months ban for a dispel and we have bots running everywhere. Btw.. since when dispelling is bannable? It was a tactic back then to dispel benefits from an enemy for an easy fight. Oh wait… back then we had no streamers… yes because they are soooooo important. If it was someone else reporting this situation Blizz would say: It’s part of the game. BECAUSE IT IS.
So I guess Next article will just be “Yeah, uuh, Hello, I’m Barry from the Developer’s Team and Support”….so, I’m here because I’ve been informed of some GMS abusing of their position, to arbitrarily ban players…like…way too many players, there for cutting the income needed to keep the company running, also we have way too many tickets of the same complaint to handle….so….” *click – GM looses the robes, leaving him just crying “Sorry man just doing my job…” *like the most tone dead guy, with bad audio as if he was actually from a phone call, and just walks away like nothing can even startle him
How stupid is to ban ppl on pvp servers for dispelling opponents. This is some serious bullshit from Blizz! And now, speaking of world buffs, I fkn hate this world buffs meta, glad in TBC this shit will be gone… I will never stay logged out for days to preserve some stupid buffs for stupid parses…
Wait, did this actually happen? Bastard Blizzard Gamemasters need a leash put on them, if so…. back in 2010, a friend of mine was TRYING to level and quest out in Tanaris, when two bored, “end of the expansion” assholes decided to go farm Steamwheedle Cartel rep – by mass-killing the bloodsail pirates in the area (remember, this before Cataclysm came out, so bloodsail pirates still had a presence in Tanaris, I can’t remember if they do anymore or not, but I don’t remember seeing them out there anymore). She tried talking to them and asking if she could just get her quests done. They wouldn’t stop. SO, she ticketed a Gamemaster, and I told her to tell them it was griefing, because it was impeding her progress to quest and level. The GM “spoke to them”, and it didn’t change anything, instead they continued to do what they had been doing, and started posting messages in general chat about “If anybody needs any of the bloodsail pirates for quests, please let us know, some kid got mad at us and reported us to a Gamemaster, blah blah blah”. I still have screenshots to back this story up, and I’m just being lazy to go quote the message word-for-word. Talk about the very definition of greedy, toxic, assholes. Oh, and that was in WOTLK.
YES! Thank you C. Grim. This shit is absolutely unacceptable. They won’t fix bots (properly), but will go after people doing PvP things on a PvP server. I have never actually called streamers out on their privilege, but Arleus or whatever his name is, is shit for thinking his needs and his guilds needs are above anyone else’s. Besides, if you can’t clear BWL w/o world buffs…you’re not as good as you think you are… and aren’t one of the guilds actively trying to go for world records…then fucking calm down about how fast things need to die. Loot is loot. There’s no special time-table loot here except for the SL stuff and thats still a 5 hour window.
BLuepost US Forum Kaivax: Hello. We take reports like this very seriously. Early this morning, we opened an internal investigation into the matter. While investigating, we overturned the suspension and reached out to the suspended player. To everyone who brought it to our attention: thank you very much!
Personally im a dispeling parser, even tho im a terrorist, all the trouble I cause can be solved with a pvp solution. Even if I’m dead on the BWL orb people can make a /target dispeller /cast deathcoil /cast counterspell on me while I Rez. You can even pop low lvl scrolls on your self and escape purges that way. It’s possible to kill me before I can even dispel. No reason to ban anyone for something that’s can be solved with a pvp solution.
amazing how every comment defends the dispeller. he is still a griefing sad person. i dont have any problems with ppl doing shit like that getting baned. notice that i’m not talking about those who dispel once here and there, but those guys who’s life purpose is to dispel. imagine at the end of the day, your goal was to ruin other players game
Lmao at the man babies saying the GM was right. I quit WoW because every zone I would get camped by a squad of horde members that were 55+. They would not leave for hours at a time. Any attempt for a “counter gank” was met with more alliance people waiting to corpse revive. One is a non essential buff that you can get back at a later time. The other is LITERALLY being unable to play
I’m so glad I decided to be done with pvp servers for good. No other community, except for LoL, is as toxic, willing to engage in constant gatekeeping, prone to griefing, and generally unpleasant to be around. Having said that, the rest of the WoW community closely follows, with even more elitism and gatekeeping in the raiding and mythic+ communities, and organised harassment, doxxing and rampant ERP on RP communities.
The dispeling meta, especially targeted dispeling, is obviously griefing. Blizzard normally does not tolerate griefing in their games. However, they seem to have made an exception for classic wow and have taken a hands off approach to classic pvp servers. If they did nothing about massive corpse camping during P2, they’re unlikely to do anything about this.
