What is a diurnal pattern?
A diurnal cycle is a pattern that occurs every 24 hours due to Earth’s rotation around its axis. This cycle causes surface temperature fluctuations and weather changes, primarily based on solar radiation. It is a fundamental form of climate patterns, affecting temperature and rainfall variations. Diurnal cycles can be sinusoidal or truncated sinusoids due to the Sun’s rising and setting, and thermal relaxation at night. They significantly impact atmospheric carbon dioxide levels through processes like photosynthesis and cellular respiration.
Diurnal cycles can also result in biological processes, such as photosynthesis in plants and clinical depression in humans. Plant responses to environmental cycles may even induce indirect cycles in rhizosphere microbial activities, including nitrogen fixation.
Is testosterone diurnal?
The study revealed that testosterone exhibits a diurnal rhythm with a peak concentration occurring at approximately 8:00 AM and a nadir at 2:00 AM (a period of 3–5 hours). This information was obtained from the Sleep Research Center at the Technion—Israel Institute of Technology and the Haemek Medical Center Endocrine Laboratory.
What is a diurnal chart in astrology?
The doctrine of sect in astrology involves interpreting a chart based on various astrological indications, as every planet, aspect, and house position is interpreted differently due to different birth times. The first criterion is whether the chart is ruled by the Sun or the Moon, in relation to diurnal or nocturnal birth time. The chart is defined as diurnal if the Sun is above the horizon during daytime and located in the houses of the horoscope 7 to 12, and nocturnal if the Sun is below the horizon during nighttime and located in the houses 1 to 6. Paulus Alexandrinus clarified that the whole is administered from the Sun and Moon, and no beings in the Cosmos are born without mastership of these stars.
Claudius Ptolemy argued that the planets assigned to different sects are assigned to different sects: the Sun, Saturn, and Jupiter are diurnal, while the Moon, Venus, and Mars are nocturnal. Mercury is common in these sects. Ptolemy attributed Saturn to the diurnal sect and Mars to the nocturnal sect to diminish their destructive nature. Planets increase or decrease their powers and become diurnal or nocturnal due to various conditions, such as their aspects to the Sun.
Are humans naturally diurnal or nocturnal?
Most humans are diurnal, meaning they are awake during the day and asleep at night. However, many other animals enjoy nightlife and rest throughout the day. Circadian clocks, molecular oscillators, regulate physiological processes like wakefulness and sleep, which are synced to daylight and darkness. These clocks consist of positive and negative feedback loops of gene transcription and protein translation, allowing processes to occur with a 24-hour periodicity.
The master circadian clock in mammals, located in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), is responsible for this symphony. Each neuron in the SCN times its electrical activity to the day-to-night cycle, generating rhythmic inputs that the body obeys.
Is my chart diurnal or nocturnal?
To determine if you have a day or night chart, first analyze your birth chart by entering your birth time, date, and location into a free birth chart calculator. Then, find the horizontal line starting on your Rising sign and determine the side of the horizon the Sun is on. If the Sun is above the horizon line or in houses 7 to 12, you have a day chart. If it is below the horizon line or in houses 1 to 6, you have a night chart.
Day charts are more outwardly expressive, with the diurnal planets (Sun, Jupiter, Saturn, and Mercury) having a stronger influence. In a night chart, the nocturnal planets (Moon, Venus, Mars, and Mercury) rule. It’s important to check your Mercury, which is typically diurnal or nocturnal, based on its position towards the right or left of the Sun.
A day chart is more expressive, outgoing, and extroverted, with an energetic and open approach to life. This is especially true if you are a Leo Rising or if your Sun, Jupiter, and Saturn are in diurnal zodiac signs.
What is the difference between nocturnal and diurnal astrology?
The diurnal sect has a daytime orientation, with a more prominent sun orientation, while the nocturnal sect has a nighttime orientation and a stronger moon orientation. This can help determine if your sun sign or moon sign is more emphasized in your personality. Having a day chart reveals that the core elements of your sun sign are likely to align with your personality. Solar-oriented people are often extroverts, spending more time on activities and tasks that involve an outward-facing, public orientation.
This applies to those in signs naturally associated with the diurnal sect, such as Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, or Aquarius. If your sun is in one of these signs, your day-oriented sect may explain why you may feel more outgoing than your sun-sign peers.
Is Saturn diurnal?
The dilemma of allocating Saturn and Mars arises from the concept of balancing opposites. Saturn, known for its coldness, counterbalances the heat of the day, making it a diurnal planet. Mars, on the other hand, opposes the moisture of the night, making it a nocturnal planet. This view is based on classical Ptolemy’s view, but some argue that Mars represents action and fits the day better, while Saturn is often depicted as an aged inhabitant of the twilight zone.
Is mercury diurnal or nocturnal?
Mercury exhibits diurnal and nocturnal behavior, rising before the Sun and setting after it, respectively.
Is my Mercury diurnal or nocturnal?
Day or diurnal charts are more outwardly expressive, with the Sun, Jupiter, Saturn, and Mercury having a stronger influence. In a night chart, the Moon, Venus, Mars, and Mercury rule. The Sun is placed above the horizon in a day chart, indicating an energetic and open approach to life. This is particularly true for Leo Risings or those with the Sun, Jupiter, and Saturn in diurnal zodiac signs.
On the other hand, a night chart has a Sun below the horizon, indicating a reserved, emotional, and receptive side. The Moon sign may resonate more with the individual, especially if placed in a nocturnal sign. They tend to lead with emotions and use intuition before making decisions. If the Moon, Venus, and Mars are also placed in nocturnal signs, they can be positive sources of power. In summary, day or diurnal charts are influenced by the Sun, Jupiter, Saturn, and Mercury, while night or nocturnal charts are more emotionally receptive.
Is Jupiter diurnal?
Diurnal planets are more comfortable and powerful when they appear in charts where the Sun is above the horizon, while nocturnal planets are more comfortable and powerful when the Sun is below the horizon or at night. Mercury, a hermaphroditic planet, possesses no inherent sect but changes its sect orientation depending on whether it is oriental of the Sun (rises before the Sun rises and sets before the Sun sets), or occidental (rises after the Sun rises and sets after the Sun sets).
Medieval astrology became more complex in its treatment of sect, with Arab astrologers of the Middle Ages defining three forms of sect: a planet is in sect when it is in a chart where the Sun’s position corresponds to its sect, its sign polarity corresponds with its inherent sect, or a planet might still have some shred of sect dignity if it is in the hemisphere of the chart corresponding to its inherent sect.
Planets satisfying all three of these sect conditions were said to be Hayz, but it is unclear how Hayz strength compares to strength from essential dignities.
Do I have a day or night chart astrology?
In order to ascertain whether a given day is the day or the night, one must consider the position of the Sun in relation to the Ascendant-Descendant axis. If the Sun is above this axis, it is the day; if it is below it, it is the night. In employing whole sign houses, it is imperative to take into account the precise degrees of the Ascendant and Descendant.

Thank you 💜🙏 This helps yo explain why Ive never really seen Saturn as a Malefic, I have a Day chart with Saturn in Leo in the 5th, but have always looked at it as a helper and a teacher rather than restrictive or something to fear. I believe if more people could embrace Saturn and its lessons that we could become a better more accountable society 🌌☯️
It would be a lot “easier” for me to see things if these planets weren’t all in Cardinal signs. Venus – Aries, Mars – Cancer, Jupiter and Saturn – Capricorn. And I have always been told (traditional astrology) that Saturn was the strongest planet in my chart. It’s in Capricorn in the 12th. I do see in Zodiacal Releasing that Capricorn is more negative, though.
I was confused until you said that you can have two planets in rulership. I have 3 planets in Capricorn (Mars, Sun, Mercury) and three in Libra (Saturn, Jupiter & Pluto). Saturn conjunct Jupiter are in libra and Venus in Sagittarius share mutual reception with Jupiter. Is Jupiter the main dispositor or are they co-ruling?
