Are Magic Bands Able To Pass Airport Security Checks?

Magic Bands are a popular item for Disney travelers, and they can be worn on the day of their Disney trip. The final decision on whether an item is allowed through the checkpoint rests with the TSA officer. Magic Bands are easy to use and have safety features in place to ensure no one else can access them. However, there are no issues with Magic Bands going through TSA or the airport.

Magic Bands do not communicate with anything on the airplane, even if you get one of the special Disney themed ones on Alaska/United/… so if they are kid-proof, they are definitely TSA security proof in my opinion. Your Magic Bands will be just as unharmed as your credit cards, cellphone, iPod, and laptop computer.

A few times, they have looked at mine, but no issues have been reported. The final decision rests with the TSA officer on whether an item is allowed through the checkpoint.

In summary, Magic Bands are easy to use and have safety features in place to ensure no one else can access them. They can be worn in your carry-on bag or checked in at the Magical Express, and they are not considered an issue by the TSA. The Magic Bands are just as safe as your credit cards, cellphone, iPod, and laptop computer.

  • Hey Crystal Amanda, Loved the article. My husband breezes through airport security and then he sees that I’m once again chatting with a TSA agent. My grandson liked my battery operated candle so I was going to give it to him as a surprise. Of course, I forgot to remove the batteries. Maybe batteries are ok now, but not at that time. Last time I flew, I was “randomly” selected for a complete body pat down. I weigh 100 lbs so I sure cant hide anything. Coming home from Japan, I was nicely escorted to an area where the agent questioned me about a dry shampoo I had. All he knew was that the scan showed it was a powder. Powders may be ok now but they weren’t pre-COVID. I’m traveling next week. Hopefully, I’ll breeze through!

  • An option for wrapped presents: don’t wrap them, per se. Instead, put them in a gift box. You can even wrap the box bottom and lid separately and get the same festive look … but if a TSA agent has to examine the gift, they don’t have to damage the “wrapping” to do so … they just have to lift the lid off the box. 🙂

  • This is one of the best articles I have seen on this, thank you. When I am checking in I put all of my pocket stuff and jewelry in my backpack to get ready for screening. I keep the electronics in one backpack section. computer, kindle, phones, umbrellas and power-banks all come out. As a courtesy to others, take your bins to the end of the scanner area to repack everything so you are out of the way. I got flagged in India once for a Nataraja statue that I bought. They were worried about theft of antiquities. Mine was new with machined screws when I told them they could have it they decided it was OK. Shiva was looking out for me. I wasn’t giving up a $300 plane ticket over a $20 trinket that I could easily replace.

  • So, Boycott Air Travel. It is not worth it to travel. If it is not worth traveling by car (maybe Bus) it is not worth the time or trouble. TSA is just a “Make-Work Job’ by the federal government to hire the marginally competent, lazy, and other dregs of the society. ALL tax payers pay for this “service”, not just the travelers who “use” them.

  • I have a feeling they’ll be changing some of that soon. Not saying it’s right or wrong but they’ll get creative in the coming years. Is it hypocritical that they sell tobacco and let you smoke indoors at the casino? And you have to follow what the Doctor says about covid but not follow the same doctor about pot? Give the smokers their own little deck. Have a indoor bar and snack place with chairs outside. They could sell Cuban cigars and make a fortune. They could sell a bunch of stuff. Having their own area with a bar and food makes a special place for all. Just like NCL has a private area for Solo cruisers.

  • Not much of a traveler not particularly looking for a cruise either but looking for somewhere like St. Lucia or somewhere comparable been looking at the Hyatt inclusive collection Basically I’m looking for an amazing all inclusive, romantic honeymoon getaway and have a balcony at least or a designated area for my medicine a.k.a. medical marijuana. I also smoke cigarettes. I know smoking is bad I get that but I still wanna be able to enjoy an amazing time in my life and not be grumpy the whole time and wishing I could just go back home where it’s legal. Love the Content keep up the great work.

  • It was disgusting, our last cruise on the Valor out of New Orleans. First, you could smell the Marijuana in some spots, and smoking Marijuana and cigarettes coming from some balconies. Trash booking rooms and bringing their behavior on vacation. Oh, I didn’t mention the fights late at night. STAY HOME if you can’t act with some level of respect and civility..

  • That’s why I chew tobacco. Never gotta worry about none of this. My wife smokes and we follow the rules. As far as the wacky tobacky goes, well I ain’t 18 no more so that’s in the past. To each his own on that. Got nothing against it and if it was legal maybe I’d partake once in a while. Get less trouble out of folks smoking dope than ya do drinkers. Provided it’s just the ganja and not other drugs or alcohol. But I digress, it’s carnivals rule or stay at home basically. Or I suppose just be prepared to suffer the consequences. Maybe they should bring back walking the plank for rule violations. I mean it could make a more entertaining cruise for others. I’m playing yall……..or am I!?

  • Just an FYI, we were on The CCL Pride for a B2B in Europe for 21 days. We always book our cabin on the non-smoking side (passengers). As far as I know, there has never been any information about where the crew smokes. On The Pride, they expanded the crew smoking area to include the Starboard side, deck 3 to allow for social distancing. however we did not know about this and wondered why we were smelling smoke. then I saw a couple of the crew just below our balcony. I’m allergic to smoke so I called Guest Services and they sent someone right up. They said they would rectify this immediately. For a couple of days it wasn’t too bad but just imagine going out on your extended balcony ( it was our 40th anniversary once in a lifetime trip for us) and it smells like your standing in an old ashtray :-(…..it even got in our cabin as there was a crack around the door. The smoking went on 24/7 and was about 10 worse than the passenger smoking areas. We called, went to GS four times, I wrote a note to the Hotel officer as well. Couldn’t get our picture done as my face was a bit swollen from the smoke :-(….I had to leave our cabin as soon as I was ready for the day. I even thought about sleeping out on the Lido but knew that wouldn’t have gone over big with the crew. We LOVED The Pride, the crew and our cruise but the smoking issue was WAY beyond normal.

  • Hey man, it’s my first time perusal your articles so maybe you already have talked about this, but here’s the thing. I’m a regular cannabis smoker and I’m detoxing because I’m about to go on a cruise as entertainment for the first time and I know you have to go though a medical process which includes a toxicological test. As I’m not sure for how long it will be detected I would like to know if you have any experience regarding a rejected or approved medical test due to this situation?? I appreciate your time and hopefully you can answer.
