Monks and Mystics is a significant addition to Crusader Kings II, offering new options for players to explore and engage with the game’s roleplaying aspect. The game features secret societies, monastic orders, secret cults, and Gnostic heresies, which can be joined by characters as they gain members. However, some critics argue that the inclusion of demon magic and the missing alchemy feature may not be worth the investment.
Despite these criticisms, Monks and Mystics is considered one of the strongest pieces of DLC in the series, as it leans heavily towards the game’s roleplaying aspect. It also introduces some bizarre stories, such as the occasional strange conflict and the missing alchemy feature. While it may not be the best DLC from Crusader Kings, it is still a solid addition to the series and a great addition to the Crusader Kings II family.
The main feature of Monks and Mystics is the addition of secret societies and cults, which can be a great addition to the game. However, the concept of demon magic and the missing alchemist society are not well-received by some players.
In conclusion, Monks and Mystics is a solid addition to the Crusader Kings II family, offering new options for players to explore and engage with the game’s roleplaying aspect. While some critics find some of the societies and alchemist societies overpowered, the overall experience is still enjoyable and worth considering for fans of the series.

Haha guys you all should be so proud of the master piece you have created. This game is my favorite game, I play it a few times a week every week for probably the last year. It never gets boring and it never gets old. The DLC you all have made so far as also been amazing! For me I hope you all can get rid of the commander title and allow the player to appoint officers on each line in the army interface. I miss having armies with lots of officers and duels in battle taking place. Keep up the great work guys.
I’ve wanted an heirloom mechanic for awhile now so I’m thrilled by the inventory system. Throwing large amounts of money to create crowns, scepters, swords or rings that give small prestige, piety, martial or other bonuses would be great especially if it gets split among your heirs. Gives your whole dynasty a more dynamic feel especially if say an NPC inherits a family sword, goes off for a couple centuries then you find it again and can look up the history of the swords holders just like a title. I don’t know, seems like there is a lot of potential for role-playing mechanics there
Heresy is like a tree, its roots lie in the darkness whilst its leaves wave in the sun and to those who suspect nought, it has an attractive and pleasing appearance. Truly, you can prune away its branches, or even cut the tree to the ground, but it will grow up again ever the stronger and ever more comely. Yet all awhile the root grows thick and black, gnawing at the bitter soil, drawing its nourishment from the darkness, and growing even greater and more deeply entrenched. Such is the nature of heresy, and this is why it is so hard to destroy, for it must be eradicated leaf, branch, trunk and root. It must be exorcised utterly or it will return all the stronger, time and time again, until it is too great to destroy. Then we are doomed. -Galan Noirgrim, Master of the Ordo Malleus
Talking about councillors and their tasks, “scheme” job is really inconvenient for being so vital. It’s suppose to target characters, but it targets the area, so you need to check the character’s title, and see what provinces he’s holding directly and then send your spymaster there. Ever thought about doing something about it?
did anyone else notice how they detailed the Tibetan plateau, that’s a lot of detail for Impassible terrain you think they might looking at expanding the game to eastern china or even japan or Indonesia I mean we already have Malasia drawn up? That would be kinda cool. id buy that if they made it. toss in the siberian tribes and Go.
I wonder if, say, the King of England gets a free ‘get my stuff back’ casus belli against the Viking raiders who steal his crown? Or perhaps all the pretenders to the English throne are inclined to be more friendly with the Viking raiders who stole that crown? Maybe hoping to get the outside support in their attempts to seize the throne. Of course having someone else’s loot adds prestige to the person holding it, or takes prestige away from it’s legitimate owner until they reclaim it.
this is by far the weirdest expansion/DLC we’ve had for CK2 It might as well just be a medieval RPG at this point Having an inventory and receiving missions from cults? not sure who asked for this the fact that you can order your allies to attack a certain place is incredible. Being able to name your child after it’s father/grandfather/dynasty member is definitely interesting
Will there be alternative ways of using sorcery? The idea of being a satan worshipper is kinda dull, and I was hoping we could instead look into ancient books of magic, or perhaps learn basic spells from random Wizard/Witch like characters who rarely appear? I just really hope we can get an alternative than having to be demon worshippers. I guess either way, modders are bound to make alternatives if their aren’t any.
I’m surprised there are no Monasteries in Eastern Orthodoxy in the DLC. They have historically kept the traditions of the Christian Church the same since the time of the Apostles, and consequently had the first Monastics in Christianity, starting in 252 A.D. beginning with St. Anthony of Egypt. I hope this is something that’s either added by Paradox, or a modder. Bit disappointed in that aspect of the DLC, otherwise I’m enjoying it.
