Why did Disneyland pause Magic Key?
Disneyland is facing a high demand for Magic Key tickets, which could be a strategic move to limit Magic Key sales to single and multi-day ticket purchases. Annual Passholders are beneficial for Disneyland but not in a constrained capacity environment. Disneyland should prioritize these demographics and not fill the parks with Magic Key Passholders during busier seasons.
One popular fan theory suggests that Disneyland is embracing the “Disney Vault” strategy of creating demand through perceived scarcity. Survey data suggests high dissatisfaction among Magic Key purchasers and low intent to renew or purchase due to frustrating reservations and increased prices. However, if Magic Key purchasers believe they cannot purchase passes at their leisure, they may be more cautious and renew when their time comes.
