Are Tarot Cards Required To Be Gifted?

The “Tarot Professionals” Facebook Group has gathered opinions from fellow Tarot readers on the topic of gifting tarot decks. While there is no need to feel fear buying your first or second deck, it is important to ensure that the giver is someone you trust. While the decks may not be energy-infused when they are first made, energy can be added to them.

There is a myth that you cannot buy your first Tarot deck and should be gifted to you by someone else. However, it is not necessary to be gifted your first deck. Reading the cards doesn’t require any gift, but it does require the development of skill and instinct. Some believe in the Tarot gift superstition that all your Tarot decks should be gifted.

While it is wonderful to give or receive a Tarot deck, it is absolutely fine if you don’t. The question comes from the Tarot superstition that you should not buy your first deck, although the consequence of doing so is unclear. Tarot cards are not required to be given as gifts, and you can purchase one on your own and it will function flawlessly.

The “gifted first deck” myth has been thoroughly dismissed in the tarot community, but it is still a valid reason to acquire a Tarot deck. Since they were of your mother’s, you can attempt to feel her energies in these cards. In conclusion, there is no need to feel fear about buying your first or second Tarot deck, as long as the giver is trustworthy and the deck functions flawlessly.

To create and publish your own tarot cards, it is essential to consult with a professional printer early on. They will provide personalized support, understanding the technical aspects of preparing the artwork for printing and advice on card stock, finishings, and coatings. Whether you have no knowledge or experience with the material and technical aspects of printing, the team will work together to support you.

Once the artwork is in place and layouts are fixed, it is time to design the box and booklet to house the cards. The box is crucial for protecting the cards and providing a printable space to illustrate the style, approach, and value of the deck. The booklet should help introduce the deck to the new user and explain the best way to handle and interact with them.

Your self-published tarot deck should be presented in a beautiful custom printed box, which can range from a simple “handcrafted” look to a luxurious, glossy carton with detailed artwork. Is there any truth to tarot cards?

Early French occultists claimed that tarot cards had esoteric links to ancient Egypt, the Kabbalah, Indic Tantra, or the I Ching. However, scholarly research reveals that tarot cards were invented in Italy in the early 15th century for playing games, and there is no evidence of significant use of them for divination until the late 18th century. The belief in the divinatory meaning of the cards is closely associated with a belief in their occult properties, which was propagated by prominent Protestant Christian clerics and Freemasons.

From its uptake as an instrument of divination in 18th-century France, the tarot went on to be used in hermeneutic, magical, mystical, semiotic, and psychological practices. It was used by Romani people when telling fortunes and as a Jungian psychological apparatus for tapping into “absolute knowledge in the unconscious”, a tool for archetypal analysis, and even a tool for facilitating the Jungian process of individuation.

  • Yes, I remember being told that you needed a deck gifted or you had to steal your first deck well the latter that was not how I wanted to start a relationship with a deck, not the kind of karma I need. Also, that decks had to be stored in silk scarves or fabric and that ripple shuffling was the only way to shuffle a tarot deck. I never cared to listen to the “Tarot Police” always did what felt right to me and my relationship with my decks are different with each one like my children because they are different souls and I have different experiences with each of my kiddos, decks for me are the same way they have different energies so how I work with them varies in how I use them. Another great article thanks for the share, Blessings!
