Ascending Astrologically In Your First House?

The first house, also known as the Ascendant or Rising Sign, is the astrological house that represents your outward appearance and how you present yourself to the world. It is one of the most important in the birth chart and astrology, providing information about our first identification with life. The first house is ruled by the sign where your Ascendant rests, which affects all aspects of your life.

The first house is naturally ruled by Mars and the first sign of the zodiac, Aries. If Scorpio “rules” your First House, then you have a Scorpio Ascendant or Scorpio Rising. The point that rules the Sign of your First House is known as the Chart Ruler.

Your rising sign, or ascendant, is always in your first house, representing your outward persona and determining your personality. Your rising sign is closely linked to your first house, and your rising determines the houses in your astrological chart. The first house’s zodiac sign will always fall in the same zodiac sign as your Rising sign (also called your Ascendant).

The 1st house lord, also known as lagna lord, is the planet of the rising sign in astrology. Your own rising sign would dominate this house, but underneath your rising sign, the first house still echoes the classic high energy of Mars and Aries.

When planets transit your 1st house in your horoscope, it signifies the beginning of your astrological chart and determines the cusp of the 1st house. Astronomically, the first house is the rising sign in the whole sign house system, representing the zodiac sign that was rising over the eastern sign.

Explaining the meaning of the first house in astrology, and exploring its significations by looking at different planets in the rising …

Is rising the same as ascendant?

A Rising sign and an Ascendant are the same concept, meaning the same thing in a birth chart. To calculate your Rising sign, simply input your birthday, time of birth, and location into a birth chart calculator. The Ascendant changes every two hours, making it crucial to have an accurate time of birth when interpreting a birth chart. This calculator was created by astro-seek. com in collaboration with astrologer Narayana Montúfar.

How do I know my 1st house?

To find your 1st House, you need to ensure you have an accurate birth time. Your Rising sign is determined by the zodiac sign on the horizon when you were born, which changes by about two-ish hours. Accurate birth time can make a difference, but usually it’s not that deep.

To find your 1st House, use a birth chart calculator that can help you find your Rising sign. Look for the “1” or “ASC” (Ascendant) in your birth chart and see which sign it aligns with. This will help you determine your 1st House’s location within your birth chart and help you identify the planets, luminaries, and other astrological points that are moving through your chart on a daily basis.

Which rising sign is rare?

The three rarest rising signs are Arians, Aquarius, and Pisces. Each of these signs is notable for a distinctive reason that contributes to their rarity.

Is mercury the same as rising?

Mercury is not a rising sign; rather, it is a planet that shares characteristics with Venus, Mars, and Jupiter. In astrological terms, it would be associated with a sign like Libra.

Is your rising sign the main one?

The rising sign in a natal chart is the driving force behind one’s energy and the first house, which is one of the most personal in a natal chart. Understanding this sign can help you better understand who you are and how you approach life. For example, if you were born on September 8 and were initially labeled as a critical, analytical, perfectionist Virgo, you may now feel more like a deep-feeling, irrational, and dreamy person due to your Pisces rising sign. Acquainting yourself with your rising sign and other planetary placements, such as your moon sign, can help you understand your true identity and compatibility with other zodiac signs.

What is the first house in astrology?

The 12 houses of the zodiac represent various aspects of a person’s personality. The first house, the House of Self, is ruled by Aries and Mars, providing insight into one’s outward appearance, traits, characteristics, outlook, and sense of expression. It also reveals the ways in which one’s personality may evolve in the future. The second house, the House of Value and Possessions, is ruled by Taurus and Venus, focusing on one’s possessions and internal values.

This house relates to both tangible and intangible aspects of one’s life. The third house, the House of Communication, is ruled by Gemini and Mercury, and governs how one communicates and connects with others. It encompasses both written and verbal communication styles, allowing astrologers to understand how an individual interacts with themselves, their environment, and those they know well.

What is a rising sign in astrology?

The rising sign, also known as the ascendant, is the zodiac sign that was rising in the eastern horizon when you were born. It reveals your perception of reality and serves as the microcosm of your entire life experience, including themes, cycles, and patterns. It serves as the instruction manual for your reality, informing both your perception and others’ perception. Your rising sign also establishes your “chart ruler”, the planet that controls your life and shapes your lived experience, long-term life trajectory, and relationship with the world.

Discovering your chart ruler provides insight into the narrative that defines your reality, while understanding your ascendant is crucial for understanding your truth and setting the tone of your life.

Does everyone have a rising sign?

The rising sign in an astrology chart is a key to understanding oneself and the world around them. It provides insights into a person’s identity and experiences throughout life, dictating temperaments, desires, and the timing of achieving goals. Rising signs reflect the first impression we give the world, as they are the initial aspect people notice about us and the image we choose to project when meeting new people. This element adds a unique touch to the astrology chart, determining our approach towards the world and how we present ourselves to others.

How do you count your first house in astrology?

The whole sign house system, also known as the “Sign-House system”, is a 30° house division system used in Hellenistic and Indian astrology. It is believed to be the oldest form of house division and may have been developed around the 1st or 2nd century BCE. The system was passed on to the Indian and early Medieval traditions of astrology, but its transmission to India from Western locales is contested.

In the Medieval period, around the 10th century, whole sign houses fell into disuse in the western tradition. By the 20th century, it was completely unknown in the western astrological community, but it was continually used in India until the 1980s and 1990s. The distinction between equal houses and whole sign houses lies in the fact that the cusp of the 1st house is the beginning of the sign that contains the ascendant, while in equal houses the degree of the ascendant is itself the cusp of the 1st house.

There is debate surrounding the claims that whole sign houses was the original form of house division and the dominant form among ancient astrologers. Some argue that it is never explicitly mentioned in the text of any ancient astrologer when explaining how to divide up the houses, while others argue that it breaks with principles of primary motion and demotes the value of angularity.

The whole sign house movement is argued to have decontextualized Hellenistic astrological texts from those that preceded and proceeded them. In Europe, most astrologers previously associated with traditional astrology never really took up whole sign houses. Martin Gansten argues that in Valens, houses were often provisionally approximated by sign position alone, but calculation of places by degree was consistently upheld in principle as more accurate and useful.

Is your first house your rising?

Is your first house your rising?

The sky is organized into 12 houses, with the rising sign in the first house representing the individual. The rising sign is traditionally the central marker of identity and personality, and it also indicates how one will continue to live their life. To determine your rising sign, a precise birth time is needed, and birth charts can be cast for free on sites like astro. com or astro-seek. com.

Reading a rising sign’s horoscopes is recommended as it produces a more accurate depiction of your astrological forecast. Each house signifies a specific area of life, such as health, relationships, home, family, and career. Each chart is different, so reading your rising sign provides more specific clarity around your forecast.

As a horoscope writer, I track the current planets in the sky to determine how certain topics arise for the month ahead. If you read your horoscope for your sun sign, the writer assumes you were born at sunrise, placing the sun on the ascendant degree. This is not necessarily accurate if you were not born at sunrise, but it can still bring up resonance as it technically outlines possible events of your life from your sun’s perspective.

  • I have a Saturn in Leo, 1st house. I was very disciplined growing up…feeling more like the “parent” of my parents. I’ve also been drawn to older music, older movies, lost in nostalgia, deep into ancestry, visiting older cities overseas, easier connection to people older than me versus peers and younger people.

  • As a Pluto in the first native, I take great pride in dying and being reborn. I’m like a snake shedding its skin. Pluto has a way of manipulating & using control tactics, (seeing the depths of things) in order to get his needs met. When he has lost his ability to meet his needs/get what he wants/control, that is when he learns to let go & detach himself from his desires. It is then when he may detach from his old self, sheds his skin & be reborn. It’s quite liberating.

  • I have a stellium in my first house. Pluto, sun, mercury and jupiter all in Sag, the latter 3 conjuct. The standing out part bc of the sun being there is very obvious for me. I have a medium large mole in my right cheek, basically forming the sun symbol on my face if you look from the right. People tend to notice it at first sight. When it comes to health, I can say that I’m very blessed, because, with the exception of very specific things (spoiler), i don’t usually get sick. So, I’ve been thinking of jupiter as being the reason for that. Regarding transits, while saturn made a conjuction with my natal sun, I had a parasite that was a little tricky to detect (around 1-2months) and it made my heart (sun) accelerate to the point of almost passing out. They detected the parasite and gave me treatment while saturn started to retrograde and in 10 days I was healed.

  • Pluto transiting my ascendant nearly killed me like slowly was unconsciously killing myself with my actions and my life path was even diagnosed with a chronic health condition where I’d die if I didn’t take medication. I finally realized I didn’t want to be a man I always thought I was a woman my whole life. Neptune and Uranus in cap in my first house really caused me to change myself for anybody I met to be liked and I really didn’t know who I was or who I wanted to be. Then started hormone replacement therapy and going through this second puberty has truly transformed my body and my mind and I see a future. During this time I moved far away a lot like Mexico and the Philippines and idk if it was a way to avoid feeling Pluto on my ascendant. I really had a choice to die and that’s it or die and be reborn.

  • Fun additional facts about Tycho Brahe – he helped his sister become one of the few female scientists at the time (Jupiter and Venus in first house). He started studying at the university of Copenhagen as 12 years old (Jupiter return). He became interested in astronomy when he saw a partial solar eclipse in Leo, opposite his ascendant.

  • I am an Aries Ascending, a Libra Sun with a quasi stellium, and a Scorpio Moon with a stellium. I was once told by an astrologer that people don’t know “where I’m coming from” because I have these opposite natures. I have a natural chart, so my Ascendant is in my first house, which often confuses me as far as gaining understanding. I am immersing myself in all of your articles, taking notes and learning so much. I am determined to understand what makes me tick as well as doing the charts of others around me in an effort to foster better relationships in general. Thank you for sharing so much. I want your book, but it’s currently out of stock. 💜

  • I have Pluto in the first, late in Libra, and I’ve noticed that as Pluto moves through the houses, I experience a transformation in the themes of the house Pluto’s occupying in a way that seems more intense than for others with the dates being pretty exact. It moved into the 2nd just as I was starting preschool and learning about the talents and resources that would eventually become my life’s work—in school I was immediately clocked as artistic and intellectual (Hello, Libra rising…). Pluto was in my 3rd from high school through graduate school when I was learning deeply discovering that intellectual matters were crucial to my life’s purpose (and writing—I studied literature and have a grad degree in creative writing), and that in living on my own, being in a city in the right neighborhood for me was crucial to my well-being. In 2008 when Pluto went into my 4th, I immediately got divorced and became a single mom, and continued to redefine my personal conception of family which is very different than what I grew up with. Now as Pluto has been in the pendulum between my 4th and 5th, I’ve been detaching from the last shreds of holding boundaries with codependent parents and moving into an art career, having just become a full time artist and showing my work in galleries.

  • Aaaah I wish you would’ve covered the retrogrades as well. This prompted me to look up the meaning of Neptune R in my 1st house (Scorpio). It is trining my Merc conj. Chiron in my 5th (Pisces) as well as Jupiter in my 9th (Cancer). As a child, I had social anxiety and extreme shyness, to the dismay of my Aries Sun. All my life, I tended to be introspective, and when I’m anxious or depressed, I isolate. As a teenager and young adult, I was very physically attractive, and almost became a model. I was always told that I had a mysterious look, and I had almond shaped eyes that were very penetrating. I I am very intuitive and have always been able to detect the subtle currents in behavior and conversations, which gives me a great BS meter and allows me to intuit peoples intentions. Also, I have been a lifelong energy healer, having been introduced to it when I was 13 years old. I am in my late 50s now. In 2021 I had a kundalini awakening, and I’ve been able to get into really deep meditations since then. Til this day, I struggle with discerning the information I receive intuitively, even though it’s been accurate most of the time. I am transitioning my career in the tech industry to being a full-time energy, healer, and meditation/spiritual teacher. By the way, my Mars is in the 12th house.

  • I have a 29 degree ASC in Taurus. I have an out of sign conjunction with my 1H Sun in Gemini conj Taurus ASC as well as Venus in Gemini 1H. I have to say I’ve listened to Chris for several years and he truly has an excellent way of communicating and articulating astrological concepts. The way he just has this ability to make astrology make sense is why I always send his articles to friends who are wanting to learn💜

  • Ohhh excited to listen to this! My son has Jupiter conjunct SN, Mercury conjunct Sun, Saturn/Pluto/Asc conjunct in the first house in Capricorn. All in tight conjunctions. To say he’s stubborn and exhausting is an understatement. I’ll spend my entire parenting journey learning to parent him in ways that will support him and help him blossom in healthy ways (and me, too, as a mom!)

  • At 30:15 Chris said he knew someone with the ruler of ascendant in the 9th house, and they have always been fascinated with foreign culture and wanting to move to a foreign country. When I heard that, I was like ‘that’s me! That’s exactly me!’, and I am now living in a foreign country. Astrology is scary (in a fun way!)

  • During the Moon in the 1st house section, I felt so stunned and taken aback when Chris said that he’d like to move things along while Nick was reciting details of Jack Kerouac’s life. 😢 Nick has the most amazing memory for stories, history, and details of important figures. I understand the time crunch, but there are more polite ways to express that without the rude interjection. That aside, I appreciated the article and the insights from each Chris and Nick. It was very informative, educational, and entertaining.

  • I think I’m really going to enjoy this one. I have Venus, Moon, Mercury and Jupiter all in first house Aquarius Rising 😅 it’s going to be interesting as Pluto will be transiting all of them over the next 20 years. Curious to know what I’ll be like at the end of all that lol! A bit nervous I have to say 😂

  • Finding out about my Scorpio rising was like the key to my life. In relationships I always lost myself in the other person and my sun, mercury, venus, jupiter and saturn are all in Taurus. My 1h is empty of major placements but it does have my part of harm (it might be called something else it’s been a while since I discovered that and learned about it.) and I’ve had a chronic illness all my life also my mars in the 8h so chart ruler in a bad house too. I also finally understood why I felt so different from other people, paranoid often, preferred being alone, and never fully understood myself.

  • I always assumed that my sun, moon, mars conjunction in Pisces meant that with Aquarius rising placed these planets in the second house- However, when I had a chart done I am told these planets fall in the first house – yet they are in Pisces sign … puzzling/ and then mercury and venus are in the first house also in Aquarius! weird?

  • I’m so interested to learn more about this. I peaked at the chart of my youngest and she has her sun, moon, ascendant, mercury, Venus, and Pluto all in Capricorn and then has her sun, moon, mercury, Venus and Pluto all placed in the first house. She’s very sweet, but I’d say pretty determined (under 2), but I’ve been curious about what it may mean. Thanks for putting this out! Excited to watch the rest of this 💜

  • I have (Sidereal) Pisces in Saturn 15° 16′ in the 1st H. Listening to the various Saturn influences in the 1st H shows how powerful this planet is when it comes to heaviness and determination with things. For me, Pisces in Saturn in the 1H is about taking all matters in in life seriously.. perhaps to seriously which can lead to disappointment. Gratefully, I have a few other planet + sign placements which helps me take the edge off of the serious side of me. Interestingly, no one can ever guess my rising sign.

  • To the sweet woman with a Virgo rising and chart ruling mercury in the 7th, you are my twin! I’m an Aries sun, pisces moon and Virgo rising with mercury, Venus, my moon and Saturn in Pisces in the 7th. When exactly do we ever stop partnering with people we need to save or take care of? Your story, career and life sounds so similar to my own and I loved to hear it. Sending you love if you see this! 🤍

  • I don’t have Saturn in the first, but it is conjunct my sun in the 4th. What you said about the old things….I’ve always surrounded myself with old things. I have an old house, and furniture from the 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s. I like some of the music from those eras, as well as classical music. But I don’t hate new music. I love history.

  • I have no planets or placements in my 1st house. I have never had a problem with my identity or ever wanted to be anyone but who I am in this life. The difficulty I’ve had was remembering the roles I played in the distant past. I’ve accepted now who I was but in reality it doesn’t matter to me anymore who I was in past lives. The important thing is who I am today in this life. Which is a combination of all my past lives and the lessons I have learned in them to be who I am today.

  • Leo rising with Moon on my ascendant and Sun conjunct Pluto and NN in 3rd house, but my moon is trine to Neptune so my memory of this life is very foggy due to trauma, but there’s a cellular memory, a deep knowing of all kinds of traumatic experiences in past lives and as Neptune has been traveling thru my 8th house I’ve done lots of past life regressions and seen and healed a lot of past life trauma from myself and my lineage.

  • Scorpio rising, pluto, mercury and venus -1st house – Scorpio stellium and also pluto Dominant Also have my moon right at the edge of my first house, close to my second house still still in my first house, thats in Sagittarius though. So have a lot going on in my first house 😅, going to enjoy listening to this, thanks so much 😊

  • I am an Aquarius ascendant at 2’42″ with Saturn at 29’22″ I’ve finished my 2nd Saturn Return, and also had my Jupiter return this season. Saturn opposes my Venus in Leo 7H, and they are both square to my Jupiter at 25’52″ in Taurus 25’52″ 4H. And I’ve recently noticed my Taurus is conjunct with Algol. And now Pluto has entered my 1H skirting my Ascendant degree. I’ve been feeling all these placements and transits for a couple of years! Saturn in my 1H has definitely influenced me in so many ways.

  • Very interesting indeed. I have Venus in scorpio conjunct my ascendant, as well as mars in Scorpio in the first. I had an intense birth, was breech, and the woman that went in before my birth mom passed away on the table right before the c-section took place. My uncle was also having heart surgery the floor above us as I was born as well. I used to ride horses and compete, which resulted in lots of falls and injuries growing up. I have a scar over my top lip from when a dog bit me in the face 😅 so yes, quite accurate lol.

  • Leo Ascendant with Moon, conjunct . As for long term memory, sentimentality and nostalgia is definitely a thing; the tiniest details, things that would normally dissipate, stay on to help define and embellish the deeper meaning and value of the experience. Good for story telling. On the flip side, the experience of grief is deep and wide, beyond measure.

  • Neptune, Spica, Fortuna conjunct Ascendant within one degree in 1st. Saturn and Venus also in 1st. Art historian, photo historian, photographer, ability to make exquisitely beautiful environments, expertise with fairy tales and ancient wisdom, many falls (knees + too engaged with the fantasy world) with body injury, major TBI, a natural with ad copy, have seen over 500 plays so far, a chameleon: dress for my roles, a traditional protocol master, ageless, maybe younger with age, conservative glamour, like old Hollywood. Interesting for me from your talk: I have come a long, long way back from a massive TBI, but I struggle to manage time intervals, like time is warped or piecemeal and not linear. This talk helped me make more sense of that. Anyway, my examples. ;

  • Thanks for showing Edward Snowden’s chart – everything about it shows he was destined to deliver a shocking reveal on behalf of ‘we the people’ that put him up against the law – MC in Aquarius 9th echoed by all the 1st & 7th house oppositions. His 6th house Scorpio moon shows fixating on diligently, covertly gathering evidence at work and is the apex of T-square to his MC/IC. The evidence he uncovered squared off with his core values (IC & Venus) and activated a calling in alignment with his beliefs that ultimately challenged his freedom to move (MC/IC axis Aquarius 9th and Leo 3rd) forcing him to move away from his roots and the family he was born into (IC in 3rd), joined by his love (Venus conjunct IC). I also love seeing the Pluto Saturn conjunction in Libra 5th in wide grand trine with Aquarius MC and his Mars, NNode, Sun in Gemini 1st – uncovering state secrets motivated him to find a creative way of seeking justice, and he was able to muster up the courage and will to present the intel he uncovered, from abroad, standing up for his belief in the right for the public to be informed about how they are surveilled.

  • I’m a Libra Sun, Scorpio Rising, Pisces Moon. My sun and mercury are placed at the later degrees od 12H Libra and I have a stellium in my first house of Scorpio: Venus, Jupiter, and Pluto. Humbly speaking, I think I’m an attractive person, I have good health, and I’ve definitely been in life-or-death situations were I’ve been lucky/blessed enough to come out unscathed (thank God). Although I’m an individual that likes to work behind the scenes, somehow I always end up being the center of attention no matter how low I keep to myself. I think having a Stellium in the 1H makes an individual MORE aware of their strengths and weaknesses, and with Pluto in the 1H, transformation is always key to improving oneself.

  • Examples for planets in the first: Brandan Fraser, who has the moon in the first, which is a bit similar to your Adrian Brody example for actors, who undertook a strong body transformation for their movie character. And Charlie Chaplin, with moon in the first, whose film appearance is a world wide known signature look and overlays his private appearance. And a last example, maybe it is a little odd. Steffi Graf, famous tennis player, has moon in the first, and as she was actively playing, here nose was very often mentioned in the media and also kind of a signature for her. (Also interesting is her 7th and 4th house in relation to her husband Andre Agassi, but this has nothing to do with appearance and first house. Just want to mention it.) Thank you very much for the Astrology Podcast! And of course: Madonna, who is know for her frequent costume changes on stage. In general is changing the look her constante. As changeable as the moon:)

  • Thank you Chris and Nick. This was very informative. I am an identical twin, and it has been interesting to see how our first house planets have manifested uniquely. We have Mars and Jupiter in Libra. I was born with a benign tumor that was growing in excess in my thigh. Astrologically, I have attributed this to Jupiter since medically it is associated with excess growths. I got surgery as an infant and so was left with a pretty massive scar. The scar isn’t as challenging now that I’m older but growing up I did face body insecurities which affected my relationships. (Mars ruling 7th house Aries) For my sister, her health wasn’t affected, Mars manifested more so in her personality. She dressed as a “tomboy” and was very defiant from an early age and still is, often speaking to the elephant in the room whether the family is comfortable and ready or not. Anyways just wanted to share! Thank you again 🙂 Can’t wait for the second house episode!

  • Thank you so very much from Germany for the article! I can only confirm that Uranus on the AC is quite difficult: Although I have a flying sextile from Venus ( day chart) and a house based trine from Jupiter to Uranus on my AC in Leo with the malics in aversion, but in an opposition in 6 and 12, I have had problems with my spine and lower back since an accident and operation in my early twenties. Only due to yoga every day I am able to walk normally. Uranus on the AC makes very nervous and sleepless. Besides I have always felt a bit like an outsider being interested in astrology for all my life, which has never had much acceptence here. I was very impressed reading your book on hellenistic astrology and would only like to refer to one biographical point, if I may: As far as I know, Rudolf Hess (p. 542) was taken to a prison in Berlin Spandau/Germany East by the Allies after the war where he was the last prisoner when he died/hanged himself, when he understood that the Soviets would never agree to release him. In a way, he actually died among foreigners in a prison in his own country two years before reunification and the retreat of the Russians. Best wishes Connie

  • The analogy of steering wheel or the helmsman aka the cybernetic character of something rising was and still is for me something crucial – it’s not just the self, it is actually what is rising in the consciousness or the self and at the same time the outside defining the horizon or the objective is here in complete accord with the subjective, there is no division whatsoever in the beginning. And yet there is cybernetic woveness in between the outside and inside in dynamic homeostasis…

  • i am a leo rising w/ moon & part of fortune in the 1h, but unfortunately i have a 12h stellium in cancer which is where my sun is. it feels like i am destined to a life of performance with no audience. i have such a deep drive to care for & support others yet feel like i am stuck in isolation. my life feels so conflicting due to this placement!

  • I’m a 17° Capricorn rising and I went through a ton of appearance and health changes in 2020! I feel like a lot of it was Saturn but I believe Uranus also had an impact because I have Saturn at 10° of Taurus in my 5th house and this is about where Uranus was during the span of that year. On march 18th I was diagnosed with epilepsy due to scar tissue in my brain from excessive mental stress. On that date, the south node was at 4°, Mars at 21°, Jupiter at 22°, Pluto at 24° and Saturn at 29° all in Capricorn PLUS the moon was transiting through Capricorn on this day as well. I started mood stabilizers the day of my diagnosis and haven’t had any seizures since!!!! Later on throughout the summer I began to lose weight as a result of my depression subsiding and in the fall I began studying astrology and spirituality as well as picking up a lot of creative hobbies like painting, dying clothes, making random art pieces… November 1st I decided to get in touch with my childhood self again and dyed my hair all pink like when I was 12. I just looked it up, a full moon in Taurus that day!!! Along with Uranus very close to my Saturn. I have had my hair pink for almost 4 years now!!! I feel it brings out my personality so much more than my natural hair does and I can’t see myself going back any time soon.

  • I’m a Sagittarius with Saturn on my sun in the 4th. However, I used to come across much more like my Virgo rising. So quiet and serious and always into a book or a solitary pastime. I hardly spoke to anyone when in school. My parents didn’t welcome opposing views. I have Jupiter in my first. The older I’ve gotten, the more I say what I think. It hasn’t really gotten me in trouble because I don’t always speak out, but when I do, it’s something accurate, and it’s usually something others are thinking and not saying.

  • It’s funny – I got into David icke as Neptune entered my 8th house.. it’s acted as a catalyst to get me here. I’m curious what seems to tie the flat earthers, lizard people and q-anon stuff all together. It’s definitely an archetype. Brilliant episode, very happy for this series to be manifesting 🙌🕺

  • That is an interesting point about memory, my Moon is exactly conjunct my Descendant and I can forget anything and everything, e.g.I don’t even remember perusal movies I’ve seen a few years ago, I’ve been making pancakes from memory for about 10 years and still if I don’t make them for a couple of months I’ll forget. I always attributed the poor memory to depression, but it’s nice to have additional confirmation. Of course there are also other negative aspects that also influence this

  • Thank you, this was epic❣️ I have Pluto and Rahu in the first house (libra rising). My chartruler Venus is in the eight house (taurus) in tight conjunction with Mars and Chiron. I come out as venusian with heavy scorpionic flavour. With Pluto in my asc I have been forced to change through various crisis, over and over again. It has been deep dive to the dark. Nothing surprises me. My own power has been an issue for me. I tended to misuse it or gave it away completely when I was younger. Strange people often feel urge to tell their lifestory to me. I dont know why, but for some reason people open up to me. And they tell me more about themselves that I have told my closest friends about me. Ever. Mayhaps it is that eight house Chiron. And I was born by C-section.

  • Wow… I hadn’t realized how near identical my natal chart is with Angelina Jolie. Even same house placements. Our birthdates are only 9 days apart, so it tracks. But how interesting. Aside from the fame, finance, and gorgeous physicality, I can see some parallel, bullet points of challenges & triumphs along the years now that I reflect. My natal Venus conjunct moon in 2nd house, Leo would illustrate some of that more poignant distinctions perhaps. (I’ve definitely got the more “moon waxing” body type! 😂 And my AC/DC, MC/IC, and NNode are all at 0 degrees. Great podcast, so far, gentlemen. I very much appreciate you both!

  • So interesting. I love comparing my collection of charts to the concepts being discussed. My ex has his mars in the first in Leo. Biggest ego ever causing him to constantly be in conflict with everyone around him. His north node is also conjunct his mars. And in my opinion he has a poorly placed jupiter in Virgo making him come off as very self righteous. I’d love to see a similar chart to his of someone that’s actually got a growth mindset and has learned to leverage these placements for the better.

  • Excellent info on the First House. I wish you had given info for those of us with no planets. I’m Scorpio Rising, Sun in Cancer, Moon in Cancer. Part of Fortune at one degree Scorpio first house. No planets in Second House Sagittarius, only Chiron in 3rd House Capricorn, only North Node in Fourth House Aquarius, no planets in 5th House Pisces, no planets in 6th House Aries, no planets in 7th House Taurus. No planets in 11th House Virgo. All planets ended up in Houses 8, 9, 10, and 12. It is impossible to get good info to make sense of that. Maybe you can do a article on houses with nothing

  • I love the depth you bring to Astrology. I was wondering about whether moving to a new location changes your house configuration and therefore the placement of planets in those houses? In other words, if I moved from Indiana where I was born to Arizona later in my life does that affect the direction of influence in the natal chart since it time zone is two hours in the past?

  • Capricorn accendant and Aquarius inside first house with mars inside Aquarius . Second fish 🐟, 3the ♈️, 4the house 🐂,5the and 6the 👬. 7the house cancer ( jupiter & uranus)and Leo ( pluto), 8the house ♍️, 9the house balance⚖️♎️ with ( moon and Neptune in balance) 10the house sun 🌞 venus and saturnus, mercurius inside .11 the & 12 the house Sagittarius ♐️. Life have been more than once at the border off dead, but I have a great garden angel 😇 ❤️. Love your work bove are very good in your work 👍 👌 👏. Thanks 😊

  • Leo Rising with Moon, Sun & Venus in 1st. (Moon) I have a horrible memory, a constant longing for something different & past relationships with mother & siblings had a huge impact on me especially that I was the youngest but their caretaker at many points through our lives. (Sun) I am definitely “Am who I Am” like it or not 🙂 (Venus) I am average looking but stand out due to my tall height – Thanks for helping me understand the 1 st house & myself.

  • Gemini with Taurus rising here, with the Moon, Mercury and Saturn in the first house. I’ve always felt a bit gloomier than I should be, but despite that, people seem to come me for comfort and advice. Perhaps they mistake the gloom for wisdom? 🙃 I also have an excellent long term (but not short term) memory.

  • Sad sack Saturn Rx in Cancer 1st here (OMG are we short-lived /suicides?), Moon in the 2nd, Sun/Uranus/Ic conjunct in the 4th. I wanted to mention that Saturn conjunct Asc Frank Lloyd Wright wasn’t just an architect, there was an element of sadness to his work. A significant phase of his work consisted of homes that were interpreted to be mausoleums for his late wife, and a few of the owners of those homes loved the homes, but couldn’t live in them because of the grieving they felt within the temple-like structures.

  • Chris mentioned that Tom Waits has Sag Ascendant conj. Mercury, Nick mentioned that Tom Waits had filed a lawsuit over Doritos using a likeness of his voice. Interestingly, Scarlett Johansson, also Sag Ascendant with Mercury present in 1st house, put out a Tom Waits cover album in 2008. Then, as mentioned in a previous TAP episode, Scarlett Johansson spoke against OpenAI using a remarkable voice likeness of hers after she declined to voice ChatGPT assitant voice material for them.

  • I have Mars in Aries 1st house, i love sports and when young i was first one picked for teams, also love military books and films, when i was young I used to have a certain amount of accidents but not a lot and these have decreased in my adult life, i hope i dont get in as many accidents as Hemingway 😅

  • I have mars conjunct uranus in Sagittarius in my 1st house (whole sign). ever since i was little i’d hear “it’s not that she’s ugly, or rude, or anything. she’s just… too weird.” apparently that made some people uncomfortable. i also have neptune in the 1st house and different people perceive me differently. they often have a preconceived idea of me (idealized) and sometimes even get angry when my real self doesn’t correspond to their perception.

  • Interesting to hear Aries sun ascendant NN & Venus in the first house – I have a massive burn that covers my shoulder my shoulder from boiling hot water scarred me from age of 18 months. It certainly accepted it as part of me, didn’t know any better – even though I had a bit teasing a At primary school. I believe it made me who I am- was accident prone too- also I was born in the bag where the sac was not broken & I came out in the bag – it’s called a cawl- does that make my first house any revelance ? Love your podcast learning a lot – bless 🇳🇿

  • I have three planets making a less than a degree aspect to my ascendant, a fourth thats making an aspect within 3 degrees and the rest of the traditional planets are my luminaries (one making a close aspect to the ascendant), my ascendant ruler or near exactly conjunct my ascendant ruler. So this gets pretty confusing and I have had much practice in trying to prioritize these when looking at my chart depending on what I’m going to look at it for 😅

  • Scorpio rising with uranus and north node exact conjunct ascendant at 5 degrees. They square my saturn and mc at 13 and 12 degrees leo. Sign based square to my leo moon at 28 degrees leo. Sign based sextile to my sun 28 and mercury 29 virgo. The ruler of my asc mars in libra in 12th conjunct venus and pluto. Very fascinating and informative article! I can’t wait to hear more about the 12th house, ruler of asc in 12th especially in a stellum. I’m currently going through a 12th house profection year…which definitely is dead on. I wonder if being born premature is related to uranus in 1st? I cant really relate to uranus in an obvious way but I never really felt I fit in anywhere growing up, just out of step. I find it hard to go along with others even when I know I should, even peer pressure. Very stubborn, like a damned brick wall of resistance to change, which has been a detriment in my life. I just feel tense and tied up in knots in life, I move when I shouldnt and resist when I should get moving so to speak. I wonder if thats relatable?

  • awesome! thank you! i came with some questions but i leave here with more questions! to me, 1st house is as hard to understand as the 12th house. the focus on SELF just never made sense to me. i have a 5 planets in my first house (asc in capricorn) – moon, venus, mars, uranus, neptune. it is interesting that you mentioned that moon in 1st house have good memory. once i know somebody’s birthday, i tend to remember it for a long time – which is interesting because 1st house relates to birth and self, i guess subconsciously i have a connection to people’s birth? in terms of how i present myself – how i dress, i lean toward to my martian and venusian style but i always go by my mood, so it changes all the time… so it is really a murky mixed bag of identities that i feel i embody murkiness rather than one clear characteristic. is that what a stellium mean? people also always say i look different every time they see me. my sun & jupiter in 12th house makes me feel expandable in the shadows, while my big fat stellium in the 1st house makes me feel like i can’t really hide. so it is interesting to observe!

  • This is interesting. I have Mars in my 1st house in Virgo as well. I don’t consider myself accident prone, but with that being said, I slipped and fell earlier this year and absolutely ate it. Hurt my shoulder in the process. I think its because I’m in a 1st house profection year. I do get the occasional acne along with the acne scarring though, which is annoying and takes a long time and diligent skin care routine to get rid of. Mars is my soul planet at 29° Virgo, my ascendant is 20° Virgo. Mars and Mercury are also in mutual reception in my chart between my 1st and 3rd houses. My Mercury is conjunct Pluto.

  • Sag rising with Saturn and Uranus, both retrograde. – Short in appearance, often a rather stern look when I’m only focused. Total ambivert. I like rules and also like to break them if it makes more sense this way. And Saturn is the tip of the Yod with Moon and Venus. So two otherwise challenging aspects combined with a good one, sometimes propel things into a really good direction, if I only fully lean into things.

  • Is this placidus or whole sign? It makes such a huge difference. And IF it’s whole sign, what’s the difference between a planet below and above the AC? Eg, my natal Sun is in the 12th placidus house but the 1st whole sign house. Or, Uranus and a Mercury-Pluto conjunction in placidus 1, but whole sign 2. How do i distinguish and determine which is which? On what basis?

  • i have horrible physical health (i’m slowly dying though i’m only in my 20s), and physical appearance is a SUPER significant factor in my experience of life. but my first house is empty. you said these things can be signified by planets in the first house… but then how can they be, when 1H significations play such a major role in my life, yet i have an empty leo first house? not to mention, my greater benefic (jupiter) is in my 6th house of physical health. that should be positive, but instead it’s so negative that everyone says it’s the worst hand dealt to anyone they’ve ever met. i’ve spent thousands of hours trying to make my chart make sense and i’m still struggling to make it make sense. if someone did a case study on me i bet they’d come up empty-handed.

  • A Little Musical Astrology here. I remember that Headbangers Ball appearance. I was like: “WTF?” I have to say that In Utero was and is a far better album than Nevermind, Nevermind was just so iconic because of the shockwaves it sent through the music of the day. What Nick is saying about Nirvana changing the music culture more than Prince or Michael Jackson, Jackson in particular, just isn’t true. Thriller is still the highest grossing album of all time, that’s not a fashion statement. And I don’t think you feel Nirvana’s influence now, it was such a unique time. When Kurt died, Grunge really died with him. Whether he wanted it or not he was the frontman of that music era. That’s just fact. I actually think Post-grunge and to a lesser extent “Scrunge” Bands have had a longer lasting influence on music than Grunge – at least for me, I’m an Audioslave, Garbage fan. Of All the musicians you mentioned I think Miles Davis, Chuck Berry and Jimi Hendrix were far bigger revolutionaries, whose musical influences are still being felt, than either Prince, Michael Jackson, Nirvana, Madonna etc. who are more stuck in their particular eras.

  • Kurt Cobain’s first house Pluto in Virgo would also align with his stomach troubles (diagnosed as a pinched nerve in his stomach), would it not? Virgo rules health and the abdominal area. This painful condition is supposed to have played a massive part in heroin addiction throughout his life and also his subsequent choice to end it all.

  • I was born with a very noticeable facial disfigurement. A midline facial cleft. I had surgery as an adult to correct it. It involved my nose being flat (born with no nasal bones) and my eyes to far apart. I also have a deformed upper palate. The palate was not fixed and is not noticeable. I am a Scorpio asc with Scorpio Neptune in the first house. My SN is also in the 1st house in Scorpio. I don’t have Uranus in the first house. Would the rulers, and their aspects, have an effect on appearance and health?

  • 1:42:52 ironically just before I heard him say this I was thinking, good Lord you’re making my brain hurt thinking about these configurations, ha ha ha. Irony (ps. I am extremely safe and never take physical risks, on opposite side😉 no wonder since just hearing all these injuries is making me scared to exist😂)

  • I lost my brother (pisces, his decision) and have Sag sun/ moon/ mercury in the 3rd in placidus…. Which is why I struggle to resonate as fully with whole sign. I can’t see where it shows so clearly for some reason. Whole sign shifts everything to 4th which is correct in its indications but 3rd house having to do with siblings/ early education (nightmare) seems too on the nose. Am I looking in the wrong place perhaps? Cap Saturn/venus/uranus/neptune in 4th or 5th?

  • I have a first house moon but have a notoriously poor memory. However, when I recall memories they are super vivid, containing smells, emotions, and physical sensations as well as technicolour visuals. I also have a powerful understanding of the zeitgeist of time and place. Even an ability to tune in to the emotions and energies of powerful past events of a place. I was born at the time of a waning full moon. Would that make a difference? I put my extraordinary super imagination down to my first house moon. Could what you call “memory” actually be an ability to fully inhabit something recalled? This seemed the case for the actor’s ability. Chris has an obsession with astrology and a first house moon. Could his immense body of knowledge on the subject be an ability to have an immersive, visceral experience of the knowledge as he learns it?

  • Mars in my first (gemini) conj asc grand trined moon in Aqua and NN Libra all at 12-13*. Accident prone in childhood with head related injuries, (including starting a fire plus almost took out my eye running with scissors, another time with ice skate and another from a baseball bat), but bouncy-backy and mouthy. Better as an adult; competitive (Merc and Venus 12* Aries).

  • I’m Sun in the first conjunct the South Node, both at 19 Gemini with the ASC at 5 Gemini. My first house years are characterized by LOSS. Eclipses in my first house are destructive 2021 was the worst when there was an eclipse on my birthday; shortly after I was obliterated by someone I thought was my friend (he racked up thousands of dollars of debt in my name and discarded all of my personal possessions and made me homeless, basically left me for dead). My ASC is applying to an opposition with Neptune. I have never been able to see the truth about people that get close to me. I think Sun in the first makes you somewhat naive about the world and the capability of others to unleash ruthless cruelty on you while they were secretly using you for years of self-advancement at your expense. Probably doesn’t help that I have Venus in the 12th so at least now that I am learning astrology, I am aware that any “friend” is ultimately going to be a secret enemy. I no longer care if I have friends. Mars in Gemini retrograde was horrific…I did not want to be here. Jupiter in Gemini is way better…I’m homeless…strangers are very kind and generous….its somewhat inspiring.

  • I have Saturn 🪐 29° in 1H in Aquarius Rising 0° 😅 I always come across as serious, traditional, weird. After my saturn return, I finally understand more this energy with doing more things online, spiritual themes. Since Uranus the ruler of Aqua is in my 12 H in Capricorn. I’m very strict with myself as in having routines that I follow and if I don’t I feel like a failure. It’s squaring with Pluto in my 10H Scorpio so I always feel a sense of pressure to do something daily. If it wasn’t for my Sagittarius moon I think I would aways be depressed due to this heavy energy. A lot of people seem to “not see me” or not think of me, yet I can visit people in dreams and THEN all of a sudden want to talk to me haha it’s a great ability and takes a toll on my body so I have to take care of my health a lot. I don’t have planets on my 6H but knowing this I use my Sun in Taurus to take care of myself and create time to take care of myself. I used to wear uniforms half of my life, had strict parent, dated guy in the military, had jobs with uniforms and always had to look put together. But now I allow myself to wear a natural look, more chill. I spent a lot of time in nature. I also have big calfs and good knees. I think I have a good face structure, I got braces at 29 during my saturn return (for free and unplanned) and it changed my face structure for the better. I definitely have more advantages due to this change but also realizations of this planet here. I wish I would’ve known earlier about all this because I did spent my early teens and 20’s having low self steem.
