Bellatrix Uses Which Spells With The Snatchers?

In the second game of Harry Potter, Bellatrix Lestrange, a devoted Death Eater, is a formidable opponent. She learned the Dark Arts from Voldemort and had powerful spells that Harry could never match. The duels are waged entirely with Bellatrix firing Reverse Spells at her enemies, depending on the target. Harry watches as Molly Weasley’s wand is slashed and twisted, and Bellatrix’s smile falters and becomes snarl.

During the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, Bellatrix flees rather than engaging Dumbledore in battle, deflecting his spells as she makes her escape. The Trio gains new wands, including Draco’s, Pettigrew’s, and Bellatrix’s, which they use until the Battle of Hogwarts. She trains Snape in using non-verbal spells and the Unforgivable Curses.

In the Harry Potter series, Bellatrix uses the Cruciatus Curse to torture Hermione and defeat four Snatchers and Fenrir. She also appears adept at using non-verbal magic, using it to assault Scabior after her anger in Malfoy. Molly uses a different spell to kill Bellatrix, but it is unclear which one.

The word “Voldemort” triggers wand-wavy magic that breaks protective spells around the speaker and alerts anyone watching out on You-Know-Who’s behalf. The Snatchers are a legion of witches and wizards with lower abilities when it comes to performing magic. In the Harry Potter series, Bellatrix tortures Hermione repeatedly using the Cruciatus Curse, demanding the answer to where they got the famous sword.

In conclusion, Bellatrix Lestrange is a formidable opponent in the second game of Harry Potter, known for her powerful spells and ability to manipulate others. Her story serves as a testament to the power of magic and the power of non-verbal magic in the world of magic.

  • Let us not forget that Molly has several things going for her – She may legally be a Weasley, but was born as a Prewett, a powerful line of pure-bloods – Both of Molly’s brothers were part of the original order of the Phoenix – As seen in Book/Movie 2, Molly is quite literally using magic at all hours of the day, every day, to maintain her busy household, so even back then, several years before voldemort’s return, she was an extremely adept magic user

  • This is where I felt the movies really faltered compared to the books. In the books, everyone still thought Harry was dead at this point. When Molly destroys Lestrange, Voldemort turns on her to destroy her and it is only then that Harry reveals himself. And Harry’s speech to Voldemort was one of the best of the entire series…. revealing to Voldemort that Snape was never “his” and was working against him. Incredible moment.

  • It was always a pleasant surprise that Bellatrix got taken down by Molly. She could have been taken out by Neville or Harry who she had hurt the most, but Molly was an ideal choice for someone who was very protective and comforting for everybody to lean on that she’d take a fierce stand against someone who’d threaten one of her own.

  • I was hoping for andromeda to be the one to kill bellatrix instead of molly for many reasons: To avenge Sirius her cousin, and her daughter death’s from their killer and to avenger her husband whom she loved to death despite being disowned by her family for killing him. To show that andromeda love for her family is more powerful than bellatrix obsessive love for voldemort. To give her a moment to shine.

  • If you actually paid attention, Avada is a green spell every time its used, and its about the intent behind it, not just the words. So when we see Bellatrix launch that “supposedly avada” at Ginny, its actually shown as a blue spell, so its not Avada at all, and thus she was able to block it with protego. However when we see Molly step up and fire a volley of spell, they’re all AK’s signature green and Bellatrix expected this so shes able to just deflect it, but what she didnt expect was the dessication spell which molly likely used on a daily basis to help clean the house. This wasnt a spell that had any combat viability and as such no counterspell, til now…

  • In the books, after Cedric dies, Harry is sent to the hospital with Mrs. Weasley and Bill, who had been invited in his family’s place to watch him compete in the tournament. In that moment, when he’s alone and scared, Molly Weasley wraps him in her arms and hugs him. Harry says it’s the closest he felt to being held by a mother, and finally allows himself to cry. It is one of my absolute favorite scenes from the series, and a reason why Mrs. Weasley is one of my all-time favorite characters.

  • The movie really screwed up the final fight scenes. Voldemort and Harry were supposed to have a conversation and fight in front of the whole school; Harry dressing him down and showing everyone he was just a very flawed, weak minded man. And molly kills bellatrix with some unknown spell and doesn’t utter a word? Only the strongest wizards like dumbledore are supposed to be able to use spells without speaking. I love the movies but damn they screwed all that up terribly.

  • Here is the story: Ginny: Almost dies Molly: Pulls up to the crime scene Also Molly: whispers: I’m going to swear word at you Belatrix Lakakastrange: Chuckles Molly: Not my daughter you b****, AVADA KEVADRA! Fred, Cedric, Tonks, Remus, Dumbledore, Snape, Lily and James(I think that was Harry’s dads name): Welcome! Rises glasses

  • Something that I havent seen in the comment section too much is the reactions and narrative the actresses were telling. Molly starts angry but moves to fear as her advance is stopped by Bellatrix. Bellatrix starts cocky but becomes serious for a moment during Molly’s advance. As she notices Molly displaying fear, she assumes she’s won already and reverts back to being cocky, which provides the opening for Molly’s winning advance after she resolves herself. While I know everyone gets on this “Molly is so powerful” hype during this scene, the actresses and direction do an amazing job of telling a far deeper narrative than what is discussed. Really cool little scene 🎬

  • People forget that in the books Molly and her two brothers were powerful and renowned duelists from the Prewitt family. Molly meant to join her brothers on the front lines in the last war, but discovered she was pregnant at the last moment. Her and Arthur decided to go into hiding instead. Molly was anguished over the fact both her brothers died and she was not there to help them. Her duel with Bellatrix marks her story arc coming full circle. She gets to save her loved ones. Her statement to Bellatrix “not my daughter, you b####” is in reference to more deaths than just that of her son. Molly was underestimated because the audience and Bellatrix just saw her as “somebody’s mom”. After all, Molly had taken a step back to become a mom before her brothers became war heroes. Nobody had reason to remember she was a great witch. Molly shows us that women who set aside their own self for the calling of motherhood never disappear. If you think about it, Molly becomes the antithesis of Lilly Potter, another powerful witch and mother. Lilly played the self sacrificing mother role till her last breath, whereas Molly got to reprise a protagonist role to save her child directly. Some may question why Molly didn’t act sooner. if you pay attention in this scene, you will see that Molly doubted herself. She was rusty and it took a lot to cause her to step up to the plate. Even she had come to believe she was “just somebody’s mom”.

  • I remember perusal this scene in theaters as a kid. When Molly stepped in to challenge Bellatrix, we cheered. When Bellatrix died and Molly smiled, we cheered again like people at a sports event. Before The Avengers when audiences really got roady, THIS was the movie when movies got emotional rollercoaster reactions.

  • I still cannot believe Molly Weasley of all people defeated Bellatrix Lestrange. This is the same person that killed Sirius Black and Nymphadora Tonks in two different battles, defeated Kingsley Shacklebolt in a duel, and blocked a spell from Dumbledore. Moral of the story, NEVER MESS WITH A WEASLEY AND HER CHILDREN

  • As satisfying as this bit was, this battle was actually better in the book. Everyone in the great hall is practically stunned in awe of the two fights happening at the center, if I remember correctly; Voldemort vs Flitwick, McGonagall and Slughorn, and Molly vs Bellatrix. Molly and Bellatrix’s fight is so fierce that they’re cracking the floor around them, and Bellatrix’s death at her hands spurs Voldemort to blast his three opponents back in rage. This sets the stage for Harry to confront him in front of everyone in the great hall, not alone in the courtyard.

  • I think people are forgetting this was a molly we hadn’t seen before. She lost her brothers and one of her sons to death eaters, she certainly wasn’t going to let her daughter go. A lot of people underestimate molly and her power which I don’t think is very fair. She clearly is powerful, we only just saw it in deathly hallows. She basically collected her anger and her power and used it to kill bellatrix. Major props to molly.

  • I remembered that in the book, the fight between Molly and Bellatrix was so intense that no one dared to get in between them, both witches fought to destroy each other with lethal spells and magic which scorched the floor and almost destroyed the halls of Hogwarts, until the deciding moment where Molly sent a unnamed spell running through Bellatrix’s chest, ending her life.

  • In the book the battle between these two was so intense, the ground was cracking around them and everything! I hated how they totally disregarded Bellatrix being Voldemort’s best fucking Lieutenant! They made it seem like she was so easily defeated! One of the most skilled Dark witches defeated in seconds! That’s crap! I’m not doubting Molly’s skills, but I’m just saying the fight could have at least lasted two minutes showcasing what both of these women could really do! There were a lot of epic duels in the book that were left out. What about Bellatrix vs Ginny, Hermione & Luna? Or Voldemort vs Slughorn, McGonagall & Kingsley? I would have paid to sit an extra hour in the theater if it meant all the other battle scenes were included!

  • I wish this scene had been longer than 30 seconds. Like even 2 minutes could have been more powerful. I wish the movie had shown Ginny in actually any real danger from Bellatrix, like Bella going after her specifically so that you really fear for her and then when Molly comes in with that line, makes it so much more epic. You can hardly even notice it’s Ginny, it goes by so fast. And I dunno, I like the DH2 score but this scene is just generic action music, doesn’t give me any of the feels from that moment in the book. I know I’m being critical, it’s a decent scene but I like the version in my head better…that happened a lot with the movies, but definitely not always.

  • We don’t know for sure what spell Molly used to finish Bellatrix, but Avada Kadavra isn’t the only lethal charm out there. It’s just that it’s only purpose is killing. Here is how it is in the books….. Molly’s curse soared beneath Bellatrix’s outstretched arm and hit her squarely in the chest, directly over her heart. Bellatrix’s gloating smile froze, her eyes seemed to bulge: for the tiniest space of time she knew what had happened, and then she toppled, and the perusal crowd roared, and Voldemort screamed. (Deathly Hallows)

  • Something that a lot of people forget seeing as Molly settled for being a housewife is that she comes from a really powerful family. Her twin brothers fought in the first wizarding war against voldemort and even though they were killed it was said that they fought ferociously. It took 5 death eaters to take them down. Its only right that she herself would be an avid duelist.

  • Ah they did this scene perfectly, its one of my favorite moments in DH. The actor playing Mrs Weasley delivered the line with the right amount of rage facing off against someone trying to kill her child. I remember everyone in the theater cheered at this part it was great. Helena also of course was delightfully evil as she was just as I imagined Bellatrix to be. This line always made me think of the end of Aliens when Ripley says “get away from her you bitch!” To the alien queen. Lol

  • Molly didn’t have to be the best duelist to win this. Sometimes a fight comes down not to strength or skill but to the one who is willing to do anything. Bellatrix was trying to show off, have fun, and inflict as much pain as she could. Molly was single minded. Protect the ones she loves. Her own life didn’t matter. An opponent like that is very difficult to take down.

  • This scene could’ve been a bit more drawn out and dramatic but it’s still a masterpiece, all the same. I would’ve liked to see the down and dirty Molly a little longer and for Bellatrix’s death to be more savory, but I firmly believe that the entire cast is either exponentially good at acting or they were just perfect for their roles. Molly, McGonagall, Hagrid, Neville, all of them.

  • I like that Molly used a spell to drain the fluids out of Bella’s body before the reducto spell that shattered her. It’s obviously a spell used by ancient egyptian wizards to prepare bodies for mummification, and remember she was there in egypt taking tours of the old tombs and stuff, visiting Bill with the rest of her famiy. She obviously picked up a few tricks. >:D

  • The final film was – in my opinion – one of the worst. The final battle, in the final film, was so underplayed I find it downright painful to watch, and this was on of the most disappointing scenes that they ruined. The final scenes in the book were truly epic, Bellatrix and molly duelling so hard the ground is cracking and the wizards around them are staring in awe, whilst slughorn, mcgonagall and kingsley are providing a match for voldy in the background.. actually let me provide a reference, the groundwork for a stunning scene that makes nothing but a lukewarm appearance. The passage from the book… ” Bellatrix was still fighting too, fifty yards away from Voldemort, and like her master she dueled three at once: Hermione, Ginny, and Luna, all battling their hardest, but Bellatrix was equal to them, and Harry’s attention was diverted as a Killing Curse shot so close to Ginny that she missed death by an inch— He changed course, running at Bellatrix rather than Voldemort, but before he had gone a few steps he was knocked sideways. “NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!” Mrs. Weasley threw off her cloak as she ran, freeing her arms. Bellatrix spun on the spot, roaring with laughter at the sight of her new challenger. “OUT OF MY WAY!” shouted Mrs. Weasley to the three girls, and with a swipe of her wand she began to duel. Harry watched with terror and elation as Molly Weasley’s wand slashed and twisted, and Bellatrix Lestrange’s smile faltered and became a snarl. Jets of light flew from both wands, the floor around the witches’ feet became hot and cracked; both women were fighting to kill.

  • A mother protecting its child is arguably the most powerful and terrifying force in this world. Seriously, sometimes i think my own mother would nuke a city if it meant saving me. You can see it in the animal kingdom as well. Ive never seen something more scary and aggressive than a mother bear protecting its cub

  • In one of the movies you hear about molly’s recent trip to Egypt where she learned a “mummification spell”. So that must have been what she used. But if you pay close attention she was already dying. You could see her stomach and arms pressing into her body as if she were becoming a skeleton. If she used the Avada Kedavra curse she would’ve fallen on the ground and died instantly instead of standing there and you could hear her wheeze. When Molly Weasley killed her she wouldn’t have used the Avada Kedavra spell. When Bellatrix exploded, Mrs. Weasley probably did use an exploding spell like reducto. But nothing is for sure.

  • She is my hero …………. she is so sweet and motherly lady that we forget she is very brave, smart and talented witch ………… this scene teaches us never underrated the power of a true love or the enrage of a patient person also faith, respect, generosity, justice, forgiveness and compassion doesn’t make you weak just be like ( Molly Weasley) 👑💖

  • Disappointed with this. I wanted to see the 3 vs 1. Hermione, Ginny, Luna trying to beat Bellatrix before she almost hit Ginny with a curse. Opting Molly to jump in. ‘OUT OF MY WAY!’ shouted Mrs Weasley to the three girls, and with a swipe of her wand she began to duel. Harry watched with terror and elation as Molly Weasley’s wand slashed and twirled, and Bellatrix Lestrange’s smile faltered, and became a snarl. Jets of light flew from both wands, and the floor around the witches’ feet became hot and cracked, both women were fighting to kill. ‘No!’ Mrs Weasley cried, as a few students ran forwards, trying to come to her aid. “Get back! Get back! She is mine!’

  • Molly’s reaction to Ginny being in danger is quite accurate considering that Ginny is the only daughter in the family. My mom is the only daughter in her family and my sister is the only daughter out of three siblings. It’s quite funny hearing stories of how my mom was always protected because she was the only daughter and no boy was ever good enough to impress my grandparents. When she saw this scene, she clapped and afterward said “I would have reacted the same way”.

  • And Arthur is in the back like… “Children, remind me to take a trip out of town every time that special day in the month happens for her… I don’t want to end up like Bellatrix” Ginny: … we like to call it girl issues. Percy: … uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Fred: we— George: better— Fred: be— George: more— Fred: careful— George: the next time— Fred: we— George: Prank her. Ron: kill me now Harry: why am I still here?

  • Molly killing Bellatrix in the books is so much more impressive, and not just because the battle was flashier. In the books, Bellatrix did a bunch of shit that didn’t make it to the movies. She killed Sirius by besting him in a duel, not by surprising him. She fought three members of the order, and bested two of them while the third fight was interrupted by Dumbledore. She took out Tonks, then killed Sirius, then fought Lupin. She probably would’ve beat Lupin too. And not only that, she blocked a spell from Dumbledore. So Molly being a more powerful wizard than Sirius is pretty awesome. I mean it could be argued Sirius was just overconfident, but she still bested someone who Sirius couldn’t

  • Never ever underestimate the power of motherhood! 👍 Normally, I don’t think Molly wouldn’t stand a chance against Bellatrix – She’s a house wife, not a duellist! Especially, not against a opponent as Bella. She WAS feared for a reason. But I think what made the different here was that that her Magic was so emotional overpowered, after losing her Son Fred and almost losing Ginny her, that it just took over and become instinct driven. Emotional magic will always be some of the strongest magic. Especially against manic magic. And She does come from a strong family Background, so that helps too.

  • I loved this scene and remember how wild everyone went in the cinema when Molly squared up to Bellatrix. She is the definition of a mother bear, come near one of her children prepare to feel her wrath! However, I would’ve loved for the movies to clarify what spells she used to finish her off. I always thought it was a mixture of duro and reducto/bombarda. Duro is a transfiguration spell that turns objects and people into stone for a short time. And then she followed it with reducto or bombarda to blow her apart. I always liked to think Ginny learned how to cast reducto perfectly from her mother 😅. I don’t reckon it was glacius as Bellatrix doesn’t appear to freeze (like ice) and I don’t think it’s petrificus totalus as her arms and legs do not snap together. Imo, duro fits better as she literally turns to stone and even looks like she’s cracking whilst she solidifies.

  • They took out such a cool line from Bellatrix: “Aw, what will happen to your children after I kill you? When Mummy gone the same way as Freddie?” and Molly’s “Get back, SHE’S MINE!” And where is “the floor became hot and cracked with the intensity of spell-casting” scene. I always thought this scene would be long and epic, Bellatrix vs 3 girls, then Molly vs Bellatrix

  • To make it clear for everyone, The green spells that Molly was using are NOT Avada Kedavra, the killing curse cannot be directly blocked by ANY spell (except from Voldy and Harry’s special case and im not sure if sacrificial love is considered a spell) but there are spells that can conjure physical objects that can act as a barrier against it acting as a form of indirect protection (as seen when Dumbledore used solid statues to deflect the killing curse) Bellatrix here had no option available to defend against it. The final curses that destroyed Bellatrix would have to be Petrificus Totalus (paralyzes the target) and Reducto (makes the target explode into pieces)

  • Bellatrix laughed, the same exhilarated laugh her cousin Sirius had given as he toppled backward through the veil, and suddenly Harry knew what was going to happen before it did. Molly’s curse soared beneath Bellatrix’s outstretched arm and hit her squarely in the chest, directly over her heart. Bellatrix’s gloating smile froze, her eyes seemed to bulge: for the tiniest space of time she knew what had hPpened, and then she toppled and the perusal crowd roared” Deathly hallows Pg 737

  • This scene subliminally solidifies Harry’s protection love theory of how he survived. The entire series was based on love. Something neither dark servant experienced accept for draco Malfoy which hence they ran off at the end and not endured in the fight. I believe Draco mom was in on it with Snape being pressured by the bitch to see Snape . . Which also makes sense why Dumbledore said he did not want to give up on Draco… to me they were the most used and vulnerable. Just following orders to avoid death. When Draco mother assessed potter she sensed he saved him it’s called a Witchery debt. When asked if Draco was alive harry nodded yes. She didn’t care about what happened afterwards mothers love triumphed over evil power .

  • This Scene is one of my favourites from the movie franchise. I just personally wish that after Molly said : “Not my daughter, you bitch” Bellatrix should’ve said sonething like : “Of course, since we already killed one of your son’s” Just to reminde the audience why Molly is the one to kill her and to give Molly more motivation and energy to kill Bellatrix

  • “This scene was better in the book. The movie ruined it. Blah blah blah.” You can’t fit everything from the damn book into a 2-hour movie. Christopher Columbus did that and while Sorceror’s Stone was good, Chamber of Secrets was just hard to watch all the way through because it kept dragging on and on and on though the ending battle is worth it.

  • You know, the reason Bellatrix was unable to put up a fight is because Molly used unconventional spells to fight. We can see she finished Bellatrix off with some sort of dehydrate spell, which she probably used for cooking and cleaning. We can assume the other spells were something similar, and Bellatrix was having trouble countering such an unorthodox fighting technique.

  • See there has been a lot of spell confusion but I’m confident she used petrificus totalus and reducto. People always say “well she started shriveling up so it can’t be petrificus totalus.” I disagree my theory is that because Bellatrix inhaled so sharply when the spell hit her, her body started to cave in with that last breath causing her to essentially become brittle allowing reducto to easily shred her.

  • My least favorite scene in all the movies. Such a fucking waggish downplay of the severity of this duel, let alone the entire surrounding battle. Everyone complains on the “Burning of the Burrow” clip because it wasn’t in the books, but I’m actually glad they added it and provide a taste of how dangerous Bellatrix is, especially after I saw the bursting into confetti bullshit… like she’s a party favor? There was EMOTION and feels when Sirius was killed, even though they completely cut the duel between him and Bellatrix. Here, the message given is her death basically means nothing and let’s just move on… rather than show the impetus for Voldemort to go apeshit. You know what this can be summed up as? That scene from Hocus Pocus. I wish I were exaggerating.

  • I honestly despised Bellatrix ever since she killed Sirius. Then, she proceeded to kill the innocent little house elf, and I just lost it. Which is why I applauded during this scene. Piss off, witch. Also can I just say that my three favorite characters all died? Snape, Sirius, and Lupin all got killed. Still questioning if it was a coincidence or not.

  • Ok one thing I love about big battle scenes is the characters fighting in the background because the choreography is set for them aswell. Being said… Did any of you see Dean Thomas whooping ass in the background when Molly said “not my daughter”? Small detail but I love that it’s still something we got too see

  • You can see that once Molly starts using Killing Curses (green spells) Bellatrix’s reaction drastically changes. She was caught off guard as she wasn’t expecting Molly to be so aggressive and powerful. If Molly hadn’t of managed to kill her then, I think Bellatrix would have retaliated with some intense venom. She was also using another wand after hers was taken from Harry at Malfoy Manor so she probably didn’t feel as powerful. She had already killed Lupin, so to Bellatrix, Molly was hardly a threat at this point.

  • A small detail I noticed. Molly is using the Killing spell. A spell that the opponent essentially cannot defend themselves from with any other spell. Also a spell that (if I remember correctly) only pure blood wizards can use. Basically, Molly wasn’t fighting fair, and she didn’t give a fuck. When it came to protecting her children, all bets are off. She didn’t care about giving Bellatrix the chance to defend herself, and I absolutely love it.
