The main cost of upgrading the flame in a Melee Build is the Pyromancey, which can be used to augment a melee build. With no stat requirements and no scaling, it is perfect for players who want to create unique spells like Power Within, Flash Sweat, or undead rapport. Miracles are generally more support-based but can be made with enough faith and a good chime.
Pyromancy has no requirements and is perfect for augmenting a melee build. To start using it, find the student in the depths at the beginning. There are utility spells under sorcery, but most of them aren’t very useful. Players can play a caster as a melee character who can shoot from afar, or even be a mostly melee, low-level mage. 14 Int is sufficient to use Great Soul Arrow.
In Dark Souls and Dark Souls Remastered, it is essential to learn how to use magic, including Sorceries, Pyromancies, and Miracles. At soul level 140, it is necessary to have 60 Int (hard magic cap), 30 Att (max Ashen Estus bar refill), and 5 spells. Power Within might still help as a utility spell, but only requires one attunement slot.
Melee sorcerers aren’t too strange of a build, as there are several melee spells and magic buffs available. Playing Dark Souls 2 as a melee character with a paladin and a spell blade has made using melee much easier.
The spells you use will dictate how you navigate the world around you, and like weapons, you will continually discover new spells as you play. By choosing the right spells and enhancing your performance, you can create the best possible character build based on your specific gameplay needs.

Can you use magic as a warrior in Dark Souls?
The text explains that building any character can be done using any skill, but as a warrior, magic is a secondary skill often paired with healing miracles. To maximize the effectiveness of your character, assign points to their primary stats and avoid straying too far from them.

Can knights use spells in Dark Souls?
Magic can be used in various ways, but it requires stat investment for the first two types (sorcery/miracles) and doesn’t require a catalyst. To find the spells you need, consult the wiki and find the appropriate spells and catalyst. If you’re SL30 and have defeated a dragon in the Depths, you can still use magic. However, you can free a trapped man in a barrel by robbing the barrels. He will then appear at Firelink Shrine and sell you a Pyro flame and Pyro spells.
It’s important not to hit the barrels, as they may try to kill you. Pyromancy allows you to upgrade the flame without increasing stats, allowing you to focus on building a strong knight and having some magic to use.
Can you cast spells while wielding a greatsword?
It is possible for casters to utilise somatic components while wielding a weapon, provided that one hand is available to perform the requisite somatic component(s).
Can fighters use spells?
This summary discusses a combination of physical and martial skills with magic to create powerful defenses and attacks. The build includes spellcasting, weapon bond, war magic, Eldritch Strike, arcane charge, and improved war magic. The build aims to boost morale and act as an inspirational leader and diplomat, with charisma playing a crucial role. The build also includes features like Second Wind, Royal Envoy, Inspiring Surge, and Bulwark. Spellcasting allows access to a wide range of spells and cantrips, while Weapon Bond ensures never being unarmed.
Eldritch Strike is particularly effective with a strong INT build and War Magic. The build also includes Charisma, which can boost morale and act as an inspirational leader and diplomat. The build is a good choice for those who dream of becoming a Paladin.
Can you cast spells with a sword?
A 5E Wizard is permitted to cast all of their spells using small pouches of spell components, provided that the DM allows the Wizard’s sword to serve as their spell focus.
Why can’t I use spells in DS1?
To use magic, you need a catalyst or talisman and at least 10 Attunement stat. Your IP address has been temporarily blocked due to a large number of HTTP requests. Common causes include the latest version of the Opera browser sending multiple invalid requests to our servers for every page visited, using the Brave browser or Ghostery add-on, which send extra traffic to our servers for every page visited, and using GameFAQs regularly with these browsers can cause temporary or permanent IP blocks. Can spells be melee attacks?
A melee spell attack represents a mechanical method that enables the casting of a melee attack through the use of one’s spell casting modifier in lieu of the Strength or Dexterity modifier for To-Hit calculations. It should be noted that this is not a ranged attack; therefore, casting in melee range does not disadvantage the caster. This may be attributed to the fact that JavaScript is either disabled or blocked by an extension, or that the browser in question does not support cookies.
What sword can cast spells in Dark Souls?
The Blue Flame is a fusion of a Straight Sword and a Staff, allowing it to cast Sorceries but not Hexes. It is a reliable weapon, lacking strong attacks and replacing them with magic. Its ability to trigger sorceries is moderate, but its versatility makes it attractive to players who prefer a more versatile approach to combat. The Blue Flame can deal consistent damage across all platforms without switching between weapons, making it a reliable strategy for attacking enemies from a distance and engaging in close quarters. Its lower casting height compared to staves means that it will not hit the environment when casting a spell in tight or irregular spaces, unlike most staves.
Can warriors use magic Dark Souls?
The Warrior character is an excellent all-round choice due to their high strength and dexterity, allowing them to use most early game equipment. Despite limited access to Magic and Miracles due to low stats in Intelligence, Attunement, and Faith, they can quickly start using basic spells and miracles. Their stats allow for the use of high-level weapons and armor early on in the game. Warriors can equip weapons like the Drake Sword, Zweihander, Gravelord Sword, Black Knight Sword, and Black Knight shield with a few level ups invested in strength.
Their long sword allows for consistent damage, while the heater shield blocks 100 physical damage from the start. The strength of their armor and gear allows players to confidently engage in combat with higher-level enemies, making them a good choice for new players looking to enjoy the game’s experience.
Can bards use spells?
Charisma is a spellcasting ability used for bard spells, derived from the heart and soul of the performer. It is used when a spell refers to the spellcasting ability and when setting the saving throw DC for a bard spell. The spell save DC is equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus, and the spell attack modifier is equal to your proficiency bonus. Ritual casting allows casting any bard spell with the ritual tag.
Can you cast spells while in melee?
The casting of a spell within melee range, which results in the “Threatened” debuff, confers the corresponding bonus. This may be understood to signify the presence of the player within the melee range of an active enemy during combat, even subsequent to being struck.
📹 Can You Beat All The DARK SOULS Magic Challenges On One Character?
The ULTIMATE Dark Souls 1 Magic Challenge! Sorcery only in New Game, Pyromancy only in New Game + and finally Miracles …
Firs time trying sorcery and holy shit I cannot believe how much dmg I can do. Combining the bellowing ring and crown of dusk with red tear stone ring and I’m literally melting bosses like nobody’s business. Downside is being squishy, but that isn’t an issue when even bosses in NG+ die in 10 seconds haha
To all of you struggling with the right position @ the rocks to the right near the hydra: Don’t go as far right as you can. There are ferns on a rock near the water there, thats the position. It shows briefly in the article. Bought 99 firebombs because I kept dying, then got the right position and now I have 65 bombs left…
For those of us who don’t know how to get to the darkroot basin, you left the part out on how to get there. After dying about 15 times trying to find my way from the blacksmith to the spot you’re showing in the vid, I pretty much gave up. I ended up where the giant green moth boss was. Do you have to kill that boss to get to the location in the vid?
Can’t do the hydra, I can’t get past the crystal guys without getting hit and then he shoots his water at me and I’m dead, or he will just shoot water at me and one shot me or stagger me to let me get hit by the golems. When I finally manage to make it to where you showed I still got hit and my firebombs only hit like twice
Ive killed that stupid golden golem on two of my characters and this time around it just wont die, Ive just spent the past eight hours attempting over and over and he either stunlocks me into a 2 hit kill or one shots me somehow right before hes about to die god I wish I never bought this game but 50 bucks is 50 bucks .-.
I didn’t know this for the longest time, but Ceaseless Discharge won’t do the suicide jump until after he rips his arm off. This usually isn’t an issue since he USUALLY does it first thing after picking up the gold hemmed set, but if he doesn’t he will just spam you with fiery arm cannons from a mile away until he does
I think you could have made this run a bit easier on yourself by using Velka’s talisman near the beginning of the miracle run, it is a talisman which scales off of intelligence instead of faith. It is especially useful if you are using the Gravelord miracles as those have 0 faith requirements. Edit: When I say near the beginning of the miracle run I don’t mean he should have started out with Velka’s talisman, I read the rules. What I mean is that he could have bought it after beating gargoyles from Oswald of Carim.
I look at my monitor to see that JK Leeds made something NEW + it is a article about spells and after perusal the vid I must say this article is absolute FIRE! I am amazed you had the patience and the SHOCKING amount of knowledge to do this sometimes it feels almost MAGICAL in a way…. ok imma leave now
48:15 The hilarity ensures each time you manage to kite a mob out of its map chunk in From Software games. I think they don’t reset properly if you do that as the bonfire-reset data is stored in area section. I perma separated the two female church NPCs after Ludwig this way in Bloodborne once, and it also did some bad things to Malenia’s Cleanrot knight ghosts in ER’s War-dead Catacombs..
Not only is it possible it’s very easy. Start with miracles, get 50 FTH and 45 DEX, obliterate the whole game with lightning spears. Once finished, farm the slugs in the painted world with WOTG (by far the most efficient soul farming in the game without cheating) till you have 50 INT. Start NG+ as an OP sorcerer. Pyromancy is easy no matter when you do it, and it only benefits from the 45 DEX.
For DS1, pyromancy is just so OP. Not because the spells are incredibly powerful or anything, but because it doesn’t scale with stats, and thus requires very minimal stat investment. You can make it a part of any build for relatively few souls compared to trying to add another magic type to any other build, because upgrading your Pyromancy Flame doesn’t increase the cost of leveling, nor vice versa. And if you’re doing a pure pyromancy build, it’s incredibly easy to soft-cap all the stats that would normally be left behind at 25 or 30 in favor of damage scaling stats, like vitality, endurance and resistance.
It’s been a while since I’ve messed with Emit Force, but IIRC it actually has deceptively low range, but will still do the explosion once it reaches the end of that range, so it can look like you’re hitting something but dealing 0 damage with it, when actually you’re just whiffing entirely. I’m pretty sure that’s what was happening against Super Ornstein here.
I recently started playing the game and I’m in love got it like 4 months ago and I already have around 120 hours on it so I leave played ab 2 saves and once I finished the first one while going a full strength build I went into NG+ thinking it would be nice to upgrade my magic since the artorias greatsword is one of the most fun weapons in my opinion. Anyways now I have hit the hard cap on all my magic rocking with a greatsword a gold tracer pyromancy and a catalyst on my inventory and it’s been probably the most fun I’ve ever had in a articlegame. Definitely recommend reaching the hard cap on all the important stats. It’s just extremely fun utilising the game’s full potential in a single character, switching between the sorceries and swords and stuff.
FWIW, I had to farm those moonlight butterfly mobs in my own NG++ when I decided to get the platinum trophy for DS1 on PS3. Those are the only enemies that have a chance of dropping blue titanite slabs… and it’s a very small chance. In order to get all the trophies on DS1, you need to hit max level for any weapon for each of the refinement categories. In one of the previous game cycles, I passed on picking up the blue titanite slab you can get for free… and without the DLC, I had no choice. It took days to get the one I needed. Refining a max level magic weapon was the last trophy I needed. As soon as I got it, I upgraded my weapon, got my trophy, and stopped right there. I really didn’t want to have to fight the Four Kings in NG++… My only other choice than grinding would’ve been to go into NG+++ to pick up the freebie blue titanite slab. Mind you, getting to that point, you have to go through like 2/3 of the game. So it was either grind or finish NG++, then complete 2/3 of NG+++. Grinding looked like the easier option.
I’m not sure if you knew this already or if you’d allow yourself to use it in the miracle run but there’s a weapon named Grant you can get from an Invader in the catacombs that lets you cast Wrath of the Gods three additional times at the cost of weapon durability. Not sure if you need to meet its strength requirement to use it though
Dark Bead scales with Strength as well as Intelligence iirc. Most of runners (not even SPEED runners, just people when they have a build on mind) check wikis before starting the run in order to not shoot themselves on the foot. That’s why you didn’t deal as much damage as you expected from Dark Bead but instead dealt more with traditional Soul sorcery.
Dark bead does less damage to seath because of how defenses in ds1 work. Dark bead deals a fixed physical damage and magical damage scaling on your staff and stats. So its mixed, each orb is mixed and has less attack power than crystal soul spear. In ds1 if the single attack has less power than the defense, that attack is even more reduced by a percentage. If not, is even increased. Seath magical defense is so high it greatly reduces the mahical part of each dark bead, but not crystal soul spear
A tip for the Four Kings at 51:33 for anyone who struggles with this problem: They try to 1v1 you, but they have attack zone “bubbles” around each king. That’s why sometimes they seem to gank you, sometimes they solo fight you. If you push them too far to the edge of the map (the room is large but still finite) and they can’t back up further you end up entering their attack range bubble and get smacked. Try dropping a message from where you drop in, or a prism stone, and try to stay semi-close to that. That way, they’ll always engage you solo.
I hope im not a goober for saying as this is obviously recorded on the remastered version but doesn’t spell casting speed get increased via dexterity? It,ales quite a stark contrast and I’m not sure if the highlight info on the menu lets you know this either way. Hope I didn’t hear, you by letting you know you missed something. You did good and a first for a NG++ Challenge Run!
So salty you didn’t use karmic justice at all when dealing with quelaag. I’ve been a stan of that spell before people realized it was bugged and became disgustingly op in the remaster. However you can very easily avoid the bug by just holding your miracle talisman in your right hand, which you were already doing so it would’ve been fine
Favorite Magic Type is a hard question. From a usefulness standpoint Pyromancies can’t really be topped. They don’t need stat scaling and due absurdly good damage basically “out the box” as long as you make sure to keep your Flame upgraded relative to your area. From a visual and gameplay FEEL standpoint it’s hard to beat throwing lightning spears like goddamn ZEUS, cladding your weapons in sparkling lightning, and just straight up smiting enemies with the wrath of the actual gods. So Miracles get that for me. Just feels so badass. From a lore perspective Sorceries are basically Seethe’s plus Humanity’s answer to the Miracles of the gods and that’s far more admirable in my opinion than gaining power from blind faith in a pantheon of gods that uses humanity/undead like cannon fodder. Ultimately, I know it’s a bit of a cop-out, but I do like them all honestly.
Imagine not using magic. Imagine going for basic bitch, low effort, 0 iq, dumb boot “melee warrior”. In every game. “Oh, yeah, im gonna play as a sword user with a giant 2-hander. Then ill play a knight. With a shield. And then ill make an agile rogue, so i can hit things up close again!”. Wow – the variety. Thats why i play mages
I prefer Pyromancys than Sorcerys. A little more variety of gameplay and a lot of fire. Sorcerys are OP, but they do the runs pretty boring. And Miracles are a big no for me, to much farm for just a bit of fancy lightings. As you say, Fire Surge it’s underrated. I never considered as a good melee pyromancy like Great Combustion or Fire Whip to equip, but looks pretty decent for the damage and the straight hit range for some situations.
in ds1 pyromancy was my go to simply due to it being the most free spells to use. My personal favorite use was to just put on havels set, then iron flesh with the dragon tooth. I simply face tanked every single boss’s attacks and they could not even do anything to knock me out of my stance. I know you can do this with havels shield but with pyromancy it also gave me stuff like chaos storm, chaos fire orb and various other spells on a build like this. I especially found it funny when I put on the metal mario music in the background and just slowly approached my foes with a giant dragon tooth… Oh yeah and power within is straight cracked
Resident sleeper… I Have already played what I call “many classes” That means (numbers means differend ng, so 1. Is ng and second ng+) 1. SHIELD only 2. Bow only 3. Pyro only 4. Dex weapons 5. Strength weapons 6. Miracles only 7. Sorceries only And Now I am playing 1. Straight sword hilt only 2. Daggers only 3. SHIELD only 4. Bow only 5. Pyro only 6. Dex 7. Strength 8. Miracles 9. Sorceries And because it wouldn’t be Fun without it, every single one of that Is all bosses… But I should metion that your articles are really good And one day you Will maybe be as crazy as I am.
I have one feedback for you, I wish the boss fights would have a original sounds, I love the sounds of the dark souls magics and also I love the game sound. This almost 1 hour article was a very silent article only with your voice and a little bit background music. And showing us the original final fight without cutting it would have be a cool end of this article.
Sorcery Pros: extreme damage, great tracking (on some spells), good utility Sorcery Cons: Not many casts, Slow to cast (except dark bead), easy to dodge, Requires a questline for the best (base game) spells, and the dlc spells are out of the way Miracle pros: good damage, Great range, Great utility (heals and cures), Great AOE spells (Wog) Miracle Cons: Very few damaging spells (lightning/great lightning/sunlight spear, projected force (or whatever it is called), and Wog), the best ones are either locked behind a questline (Wog) or NG+ (sunlight spear) Pyromancy pros: Great variety of spells, no stat requirements, Amazing damage regardless of level Pyromancy Cons: EXPENSIVE, some of the better spells take 2 attunement slots, Getting the best spells(and upgrading your pyro flame after a certain point) requires going down a questline that is VERY easy to miss.
Aha, “pyromancy only” except quelaag. As always. You know, quelaag is possible on normal new game, with a few glitches (skips mostly). New game + she is probably also possible, but also with a few glitches and not with your “starting with fireball only” thing. But quelaag IS possible. Barely, but still.
Come on dude, there’s a ring that halves your hp but doubles any spells that drops from hydra, which would solve any problem with running out of spells. I’m more of a dagerry-sword warrior, but I count knowing all possibilities with rings as a basic knowledge Still I give you great respect to using both red tearstone and power within and one shotting most bosses AND Artorias on NG+! That was cool. After me remembering how I started struggling with him on NG+4, I had 99 vit, but he still manages to one shot ME with some attacks by either my poor understanding of hitboxes or me being greedy PS. If anyone decides to do the run, remember first pyromancy, second mirac- I mean lightning (don’t forget the gwyn’s spear, if you know what I mean), third is sorcery which is broken and with which it’ll be fairly easy to beat ng+2
My favorite magic is sorceries, with miracles in second place, and pyromancy taking dead last as it’s just not really my style. Pyromancy is something I rarely touch,as I prefer big stick me hit builds 😂😂 Mainly Zweihander,Ultra great sword used by our much beloved Iron Tarkus, and the Great Club. I love playing faith with some dex weapons, like balders swag sword or the ever famous uchigatana.
Commenting while only 17:43 in, I think I would (and god help me I might) choose to start with pyromancy, it’s an invaluable tool even in a soul level 1 run so you get the whole first run to invest into your stats for the next run, giving a good head start. Would 99 int or faith be enough for soul spear or … whatever you’ve decided is the starting miracle that even CAN damage something,,, be enough to make up for the NG levels buffing things? Oscar shrug emote.png if I had to guess the order I’d try though, pryo -> Miracles -> Sorcery
With a weapon as a primary choice, I’d say pyromancy is the coolest. Small list of useful buffs, and a lot of mid-range or melee attacks. Poison/Toxic is always a fun way to mix it up. It’s just great for generally enhancing one’s melee combat. Sorcery is the most fun without a weapon. It has a lot of variety with the different catalysts, and the dark spells when Crystal Soul Nuke just doesn’t butter your buns the way it used to. Miracles just suck, though. Too many gimmicky ones, and way too much covenant BS, especially considering that you don’t get any more lightning than one serving of each spell because of the covenants.
Why refere to Sif as a She? Official Japanese Guide referes to him as “He” which basicly sets the Canon as him beeing Male. However even if that wouldnt be true, Sif has 0 Refferences to his Gender in the Game Itself, which means Sif could be both or Genderless. Just Assuming its a Female Wolf because of that Stupid “Its a Godesses Name” Argument is ridicoulus when the Name Sif itself is a Genderless Name 😀 But the Run was great, never saw that attempt before and its always fun watch someone who “knows” what he is doing in DS 😀
If you go down the elevator under FireLink, you can buy Soul Arrows early from the Blacksmith. He is located down the steps just left of the doorway that leads to the Vally of the Drakes. Since it was mentioned and acquired in the article, the grass crest Shield should be in your offhand at most times. It buffs stamina regen which is useful to cast and dodge sooner. Not only that but it will save you in close quarters either by blocking or by parrying. Which since kicking is allowed in this run, parrying should also be allowed as it does not do damage. It even opens a window to “reposte” with a spell. Edit: Grass Crest would have also kept him from dying to Ceaseless Discharge.
While I do enjoy sorcery, I find pyromancy is my favorite magic type in DS1, since it lets you invest in dexterity to increase casting speed and wield dex-scaling weapons. With the other magic types, you can’t really spare the soul levels since you have to invest in int/faith. Also, sorcery in DS1 is pretty bland–most of it is just variations on projectiles, which isn’t that exciting.
I know it’s super late, so just for anyone planning any DS1 runs in near future, you don’t need to run such a big risk to get Logan free in Duke’s Archives while stacked on souls by running both areas without resting. You can teleport out of that room by using the bonfire in your cell. While it typically blocks you from teleporting, there is a particular point where you can rest at the bonfire from OUTSIDE the cell. You can then teleport to the upper bonfire near where he moves to, it seems that the trigger to block it is just inside the cell, and not a property of the bonfire itself. Very very odd, but that’s Dark Souls coding for you.
in dark souls 1. I think miracles are a bit underdeveloped, certainly powerful, but it’s pretty much lightning spear, bigger lightning spear, and wrath of god…two of which are locked pretty deep into the game pyros are fun and my go to sorceries are the most developed but a bit of a mixed bag, there’s high cast crap spells, there’s low cast decent spells, there’s low cast crap spells, and there’s odd seemingly useless spells. also dark bead. the original overpowered hex before hexes were an actual category. also I was honestly kinda expecting the keeping a basic spell of relevant category bit was so you could take DLC’s dark flame into NG+ so Quelaaq wasn’t as painful…nope… also x2, should have invested in a bit of dex, initially seems useless for a mage, but cast time is dex dependent for some reason
Dark Sorceries do more damage with Catalysts that scale with STR and INT. Since you used pure INT scaling Catalysts, dark magic is losing a LOT of Physical Damage, Tin Banishment Catalyst and Manus Catalyst are the two best dark magic catalysts in game with proper stat builds, and demon catalyst coming a close second having more phyiscal than magic damage
Sorcery and Pyromancy complement each other very well for a multitude of reasons. One of them is that magic boost gear like the Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring boost BOTH sorcery AND pyromancy damage, likely because the latter branches out from the former. Another is the while sorcery mainly gives you long-ranged spells, pyromancy mainly gives you close-ranged spells. Pyromancy is my favorite for its versatility and coolness. Sorcery is also cool and fun.
0:44 I’m doing more or less the same right now. After like 3 knight playthroughs I finally assembled “courage” to try a sorcerer, I ended up enjoying quite a lot, especially when I found out I could use a lot of cool melee weapons that I could not in my knight’s playthrough because the damage once garbage is now awesome thank to inteligence scalling, absolutely loved the moonlight butterfly horn and the moonlight greatsword, and as a side weapon, any enchanted sword would do very sweet damage as well. Then right now I’m prety much done with a pyromancer build, and since the pyromancy flame doesn’t scale with anything at all, I could pretty much do another knight, but instead of dumping everything into strenght, dex and endurance, I kinda went just dex, and the remaining points went all to attunement, in which I have 6 slots right now. I have good weapons, but aside from Queelag, ceaseless and centipede, all the other bosses went down with just pure pyromancy. And not I’m planning my faith build, accepting suggestions actually. Reeeeeeally excited to finally use the dragonslayer spear which scales with faith.
Sorceries by far. Pyromancies are mostly fine but there are enemies immune to fire. Finally, low requirement Miracles make for a fine supporting option, but offensive ones are either limited or very hard to use. 14:15 I’m sure other comments have said it but. Dark Bead also has a physical component that grows with the catalyst’s physical damage, the Tin Banishment Catalyst is good for dark sorceries because of this. Because of the former it must also overcome the enemy’s physical resistance to do massive damage, normally done with the Red Tearstone Ring. 35:00 Yep, gotta level up that dex to 45 to have decent casting time.
personally i think the fact that there is no miracle that permakills the skeletons makes perfect sense lore and gameplay wise. miracles rely upon the strength of the gods, except in this world gods are literally just Some Dude Over There: gods are tangible. they are defeatable. miracles are capable of the strength to fell dragons, but nito is the archon of death. and even gods are not immune to death. seath, the witch of izalith, the four kings, gwyn. they can all die very easily. they represent sorcery, flame sorcery (not pyromancy: this is a common misconception people have. flame sorcery and pyromancy are two different things, and that’s why the demon firesage is weak to fire: any fire damage the player can deal to red asylum demon is pyromancy or chaos flame, which he as a flame sorcerer is weak to. flame sorcery and pyromancy and chaos flame can all affect the player in the same way because you are undead, you are hollow, you are not a demon.), dark and the abyss, and the sun slash lightning slash some other shit i guess??? but even nito himself can’t avoid death when you kill him. needing SPECIFICALLY a special sword from astora (where people are used to fighting monsters, source: ring of the evil eye), a special axe blessed by the way of white (makes sense because lore IE gwyn at his strongest being able to stomp nito’s shit in but the only reason he can’t anymore is he’s hollowed out), a special hammer blessed by the one living (undead counts as living) person who protects nito once the lord vessel has been placed (whether because leeroy wants to kill him first or protect him because death is important or whatever), the REAL greatsword of artorias (enough said), a special spear awarded to a select special few of gwyn’s knights who were specifically not chosen to accompany him during the demon war (because the delineation between black and silver knights and their weaponry), or a weapon blessed by a blacksmith who hails from, let’s hear it, ASTORA!
Came here to say how good looking harry derper is, but sadly there are already 6 comments about that fact so i dont. Instead I’ll say run invalidated 😉 But seriously, why did you make it so hard for yourself, and did the cycles in (possibly) the most annoying order AND even did not take over spells etc from the last cycle? I like challenge runs, but honestly this felt too harsh.
Fantastic run! Two observations though: I think ornstein was just out-ranging your emit force shots base on the article, and I know from experience it’s got a fixed very short range. Which can come in handy sometimes, like when you killed crestfallen with it detonating after his rolls. It’s quite useful unlocked, as it will detonate either at the fixed range, or on contact with a surface. The other point though could have made your life immensely easier: In DS1 leveling dex to the soft cap of 40 increases your casting speed. For certain with sorcery and miracles, but I don’t remember if it affects pyromancy.
I’m a huge souls fan. I started to play ds1 again and I’m going to do your run with new game ++ but I’m going to be the ultimate magic caster. I will upgrade all sorcerer, pyro and miracle. And then beat the game with all of it in a new game +++ wish me luck. Thx for inspiring me to go back to the game and love it all over again. Love your runs.
Sorcery is my favorite. Oddly enough, I found out a sorcerer run as your very 1st playthrough ever may be the hard mode of the game. It was for me anyhow. The second half of the game was incredibly difficult due to not needing to practice any of the defensive moves (block, dodge, parry) in the 1st half. My second playthrough was a melee run and it was a breeze by comparison. Now I do a combination of the 2. Sorcerer but I largely rely on the longsword for most enemies. Every run has me handling more enemies with the longsword than the previous. I’ve lately been thinking I should change it up for a miracle run.
My first run was a Pyro and Quelaag is sexy so Pyromancy is Hot (sorry) and you can use it as a side dish on any character. Miracles are nice balance of offense and restore/defense but you kinda spec into them Great for paladin builds. My least used ware sorceries, sure some a nice damage or utility (safe fall/silence/invisibility/weapon buff) but i did not use them as much as the others (i think, it was like 10 years the last time i played best souls).
I love faith builds in Elden Ring, but they are pretty lacking in older games to me. Sorcery I just find to be a bit boring and lacking variety, but something about a ball of concentrated fire in one hand and an onyx blade in the other is so badass. Also Demon’s Scar is one of my favorite weapons in ds3 and its a pure pyro weapon.
Greatvideo ! but just to clear things out :! the problems comes from NG++ not the miracles haha,as a miracle players from ages now,i can certify faith if one of the most broken thing in this game,as it not only increase spell dmg AND spell heals (to the point where it outheals max estus flasks)but also the dmg of your faith weapon and it increase it even further with based faith weapons such as the dead dragon sword(in the valley of drakes) but it also outrange other spells making the game easier as you have early acces to the lightning spear being actually more broken than magic(once again it is not shown here because it is ng++)
Hey JK, I’ve been playing dark souls 3 on PS remote play and you can play with a controller however there is an option to use the controls on your phone! I think it would be a very hard challenge run to get thru the game using only those controls. If you have played fortnite mobile it’s similar but much more crowded
In dks one, pyromancy and miracles easily win vs sorcery. I don’t hate sorcery for the rest of souls games, partly because in dks2 hexes add a fourth option for all spell things. For dks3 I like all the spell schools, but I will admit sorcery kinda sucks, as your best spells are all mono use in terms of gameplay and isn’t as interesting as tge variety of builds done by the others, but at least summoned weapon catalyst build with is more fun than lightning arrow spammer. Elden ring, jibbed the bill pryomancy spells take up more than half the faith spells. Adding a lot of bloat and redundancy, as pure faith feels more limited without fire spells but flame spells are so much better overall you would be dumb to not use them. Honestly feel my only gripe with sorcery in elden much like dks3 it still has the best spells aren’t the awesome ones. But it’s that the few awesome utility spells they had got shafted, invis body stealth blade mage was the reason why I played sorcery for the first time and you need to be like 80 hrs in to get spells that aren’t that good for stealth for a game with stealth. Honestly doing a sorcery and miracle build for each game is a tradition of mine and love most of the spells types.
I wouldn’t ever call resorting to needing to parry a “cop out”, as badly as one might wanna stick to the theme it’s still using all your damage with the limitations and all you’re using is secondary mechanics to help you out. I mean hell, if parrying would be a cop out then so would be blocking or dodge rolling since those aren’t Miracles! Don’t feel defeated cuz you needed to pull out the parry shield, you still earned your victory.
