Can Huckster Spells Be Used By Hexslingers?

Hexslingers, a subtype of Hucksters, can use any of the hexes outlined in either Hucksters and Hexes or the later Hexarcana. They have a single “aim” in their spells, which requires Arcane Background (Huckster), Gambling d6+, and Spellcasting d4+. Some hexes require a gun, but if a standard Huckster can find a teacher or other way to understand these hexes, they can use the poker hand rules for them.

In the original Deadlands rulebook, each spell was its own Aptitude, which was changed to the Hexslingin” attribute for Hexarcana and the Hexarcana. Hexslingers don’t need special rules, but instead rely on pragmatism and preparedness. They combine their magical abilities with gunfighting techniques, playing poker with demons and gaining control of their power. Once complete, any hexslinger can use that weapon to cast any of the following powers on or with the hex gun without using their sidearms.

Hexslinger hexes include bodyguard, disrupt, counterspelling, magic bullets, quick-drawing, and more. They can Deal with the Devil but not Short or spend bennies for Power Points. In Rifts, AB (Magic) requires the use of gestures and speech, while defensive spells harm the recipient. Spades are hexes that can’t stop casting, and hexslingers use their sidearms as a spell focus. Hexslingers use an encrypted spellbook, while Hucksters use a deck of cards and dice to cast spells or “hexes”.

During the intertestamental period, possibly due to influence from the Zoroastrian figure of Angra Mainyu, the satan developed into a malevolent entity with abhorrent qualities in dualistic opposition to God. In the apocryphal Book of Jubilees, Yahweh grants the satan authority over a group of fallen angels or their offspring to tempt humans to sin and punish them.
