They have a ranger spell list that focuses on passive, utility/survival abilities, with the exception of the Hunter’s spell.
Rangers are half casters, meaning their spellcasting advances half as quickly as full spellcasters like Druids. They know a number of spells determined by their ranger level and can cast them using a spell slot of the spell’s level or higher. They regain all expended spell slots when they finish a short rest.

In DND 5E, to cast spells, you need a free hand until you take a warcaster feat.
