What Does Vedic Astrology Call The Atmakaraka?

The Atmakaraka is the planet with the highest degree in your birth chart, representing the soul’s desire. In Vedic Astrology, the Atmakaraka represents the soul’s journey, desires, and lessons to be learned in this lifetime. It goes beyond mere planetary positions and delves into the qualities and mettle of your character and spiritual development.

The Atmakaraka is often referred to as the “Soul’s guide” and represents the unfulfilled desires that have brought us into this incarnation. These deep desires need to be addressed and revealed to reveal our dharma, or soul purpose, in this life. By understanding and embracing its teachings, you can work with the Atmakaraka planet and its impact on relationships, career, and spiritual growth.

In Jyotisha (Hindu astrology), the Atmakaraka is either the Sun or one of the planets. In the grand tapestry of Vedic Astrology, the Atmakaraka stands as the King of Planets, guiding people on their soul’s path toward self-recognition and growth. By knowing its significance and embracing its teachings, you can work with the Atmakaraka planet and understand your greater role in the cosmic scheme of things.

In Vedic philosophy, a soul is reborn because it has unfinished desires that were left behind. The Atmakaraka planet shows the personalized nature of an individual’s soul, revealing its color or soul flavor. The natural Atmakaraka is the Sun or Surya per Vedic Astrology, symbolizing identity, power, authority, ego, and the true self.

In summary, the Atmakaraka planet plays a significant role in an individual’s life, revealing their purpose, desires, and the power of their soul.

What is my Amatyakaraka in astrology?

The Amatyakaraka planet, the second-highest degree planet in an individual’s natal chart, is a significant aspect of Vedic astrology. It represents qualities related to career, profession, guidance, and counseling in a person’s life. The concept is part of the Jaimini astrology system, a branch of Vedic astrology that focuses on spiritual aspects and life paths. The Amatyakaraka is considered one of several factors in analyzing a person’s career and life direction in Vedic astrology.

The specific influence and interpretation of the planet depend on its placement, aspects, and conjunctions in the natal chart. This book will delve into the secrets of the Amatyakaraka and its significance in Vedic astrology.

What is Atmakaraka in a birth chart?

Karakas in astrology are significators that determine the influence of a planet on a person or thing. The Atmakaraka, the soul significator, governs the subject of a horoscope. The Rasi (Zodiac sign) and Nakshatra (lunar mansion) in which the Atmakaraka is placed play a crucial role in reading a subject’s nature from their chart. Planets in this system include Ravi (English Sun), Chandra (Moon), Kuja (Mars), Budha (Mercury), Guru (Jupiter), Sukra (Venus), and Sani (Saturn).

Is the sun the planet of Atmakaraka?

Can Rahu or Ketu be Atmakaraka?

Can Rahu or Ketu be Atmakaraka?

The Atmakaraka, a symbol of the soul’s spirit, is often considered the Sun in all charts. However, this article focuses on the Chara Atmakaraka, which is one of eight planets that can take over the mantle of Atmakaraka depending on its degrees in the natal chart. The planet with the highest degree, ignoring signs, is considered the chara Atmakaraka.

Rahu Ketu degrees are calculated by subtracting from 30º due to its perpetual retrograde motion. Rahu’s role is invaluable in the search for answers in life and the turmoil it causes, as well as the soul’s ability to triumph over uncontrollable desires. The Atmakaraka reflects the spirit within us, but its outer expression may not always be spiritual. The soul is treading the wheel of desire, and the fulfillment of one set of material desires can create an ever-increasing appetite for more. The true desire of the soul is to find self-realization, peace, and eternal happiness.

The Atmakaraka planet personifies these struggles and shows the path through life lessons, usually delivered during Atmakaraka dashas and bhuktis. Identifying with materialistic goals is essential and must not be underrated. The soul’s birth to earth shows that there is a worldly mission for the soul to complete before it is ready to understand the higher self. Experiences teach us to look for our higher self, and there cannot be a fast track to moksha or self-realization.

Atmakaraka will show both the soul’s material goals and the spiritual ones. Not all people can find the ultimate realization, but they can slowly become enlightened.

Is Amatya Karaka the moon?

In the context of astrology, the moon, as a matatyakaraka, is associated with specific professions, particularly those pertaining to the human mind and women. A career in philosophy, psychology, or spiritual healing is anticipated, while a career in the field of women’s products may also prove advantageous.

What is the importance of Amatyakaraka?

The Amatyakaraka Planet (Am K) is regarded as the Minister of the Horoscope, as it is the planet through which Atmakaraka endeavors to actualize his aspirations. In a manner analogous to a minister, who offers counsel to the King, who then executes his orders, Atmakaraka seeks to realize his desires through the influence of Am K.

Which Karaka is for wealth?

Which Karaka is for wealth?

Dhana yogas are astrological combinations or yogas for wealth and prosperity, which are more fruitful if both the lagna and its lord are strong and there are no Arista yogas present. Jupiter is one of the natural Dhana-karakas, providing lifelong prosperity and financial stability. According to the Parasari School of Hindu astrology, the lord of the 2nd house or bhava, counted from the lagna (birth ascendant), and the 11th bhava are concerned with earning and accumulation of wealth.

The other bhavas to be reckoned with are the 5th and the 9th bhavas, known as the abodes of Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth. The inter-relationship of these wealth-giving bhavas and their respective lords ensures wealth and prosperity. Planets simultaneously owning two wealth-giving bhavas become the prime indicators of wealth. The strongest indicator is the one that owns both the 2nd and the 11th bhavas, followed by the ones who own the 5th or the 9th.

Dhana yogas depend on the lord of the 2nd who determines wealth, while the 11th is the house of gains. Dhana yogas arise when the lords of the 1st, 2nd, 5th, 9th, and 11th bhavas mutually associating, but only when the yogas happen to connect with the lagna that more significant results are seen.

What house is my Atmakaraka in?

What house is my Atmakaraka in?

The strength of Atmakaraka is analyzed in all varga charts, including the dasamsha chart for Prince William’s future career indications. The lagna lord and Atmakaraka are placed in the 12th house, which contradicts William’s position as the heir apparent of the British monarchy. This suggests that the timing of his birth may not be precise. The lagna lord and Atmakaraka in the 12th house in Dasamsha show rejection of William’s future role as a monarch. However, William is showing no sign of rejecting his royal duties and appears well-adjusted publicly.

If William’s birth time is moved by 4 minutes to 8:59p. m., Rahu Saturn and Jupiter come into the lagna of the dasamsha, adding strength to the Atmakaraka. This would be a powerful indication of William’s strength as the future King of England. The future will determine whether William will give up his royal duties or embrace them.

The dashas and Bhuktis of the Atmakaraka planet can give profound experiences and life lessons. William was born in the Saturn bhukti of Rahu Dasha, indicating that soul lessons started at birth. The two most important events in his life are directly connected to Saturn Bhukti in Jupiter Dasha. The Atmakaraka Saturn gave William the most important lessons in its Bhukti, changing his perception of life forever.

  • My soul planet is Moon. My spiritual lessons are to understand unhappiness; the difference between true and false love, learn to nurture and be nurtured, to work with the emotional realms and to expand my compassion and devotional abilities. I also have a very close relationship with my mother. She’s my comfort and support.

  • Jake is beautiful!!! It’s so wonderful giving and receiving love from our animal companions or fur babies as some of us refer to them as. Some children stop kissing their parents when they start school but dogs never stop. Our children still love us but they are people too so they may not like being smothered in affection but dogs do… welcome Jake and thank you Kapiel for saving another life.

  • My atmakaraka is Venus. I have libra ascendant, so Venus is also my lagna lord. I’ve Venus in the 5th house in aquarius, purva bhadrapada nakshatra, pada 2. Venus falls in taurus navamsa. Jupiter is the ruler of purva bhadrapada. So, AK planet is placed in a Jupiter’s nakshatra. My Moon, Ascendant and Sun also are placed in Jupiter’s nakshatras. I feel myself a mix of Jupiterian and Venusian energies. Sometimes more venusian than anything else.

  • Go ahead and do a 3 hour Karaka Special. True learning puts us in a world outside of time. Whenever theres a fascinating but short article from any of our present day Jyotishis and Lecturers of Jyotisha, its like getting the shower’s hot water turned off too quickly. Love the in depth long articles…we live in a time where we can pause and save for later if we must.

  • What is the difference between the significance of the Atmakaraka and Bhrigu Bindu? How do you find out the Dharma Lord and what is that? It would be really great to have a article that parses out all these different soul significators: Moon Nakshatra, Atmakaraka, Bhrigu Bindu, Dharma Lord, Lagna Lord?

  • hello i havent scrolled to see if anyone else mentioned it, due to my timing and spending today with family elders. your mic screen/covering i feel confident to say is rubbing on your necklace chain. it sounds like the metal coils on the strings when tuning new strings on an electric guitar. i used to drag my pic down the string hooked to the amp to try and inspire a metal solo out of myself >.< lolol also thank you for making atmakaraka explained vid!! youve mentioned it in other ..'segments'? and your excitement of the topic at hand and like Emeril youve thrown ATMAKARAKA in and i could see inside your face the reenactment of the mind blowing when you first learned yourself. from one human being to another, thank you for existing. for being. truly, truly, thank you.

  • Awesome. as I correctly understood Dharma houses and lords also should be checked along with Atmakarakka. My Atmakarakka is Mars and Mars itself is lord of my 9th house and sits in 5th house. (I’m Leo ascendant). I’m whole fire I guess now and so many things just make sense. Kapiel you’re amazing as always.

  • My atmakaraka is venus. I am facing problems in my love life since teen age. I have changed 23 boyfriend’s and my age is only 23 right now. Out of 23, 3 were serious and changed my life, transformed my life ( like 8th house). My love life is the thing I am phasing problem with. Why can somebody tell please? I am all hurt. Need help. Was depressed.

  • AK in 1st house. Even in this life im still taking care of other ppl first before me, eventho its always them did dirty on me at the end. To the point i’ve had enough and dont care anymore. Glad that now i know my purpose on this life and it makes me sure to think of myself more.. thank you sir for sharing your knowledge🙏

  • My AK Saturn is in the 9th house. My father has been the biggest influence in my life and it’s like I have known no other purpose in my life than getting that validation from him for every single thing I do. I’m here in the US getting a PhD in a top medical school, won most prestigious scholarships and my father is the proudest for everything yet I feel lost every single day. This explanation was precious to me Kapiel ❤

  • Artmakarka in 9th house. I’ve have to sacrifice my desires to peruse higher education and internships. I’m the only one who’s perused education, and the rest of my family got into drugs, etc. after seeing my younger siblings suffer. I sacrificed all worldly desire to stay on the righteous path whether I wanted to or not.

  • So true. My AK in 7th house Mercury and my husband is sick, I am the one who is helps him all the way. I take him to hospitals and take care of him. I feel I am obligated towards him and I have to take care of him😘 Please pray that I win this war of his health issue. My husband’s AK sun is in 8th house with Venus and he helps my parents by taking care of my sister and he also took in my brother for sometime too 😁 Kapil sir I came across you in my Ketu Mahadasha 🙏🏼

  • Moon atmakaraka 12th house I will now be 35 and I’ve been isolating since my Mercury/ Ketu dasha. Doing a plant medicine retreat in a few weeks where I will be doing diet with plants, mute and in isolation. Volunteering and being of service in these healing ceremony spaces has helped me tremendously.

  • My Atmakarak is sun sitting in 5th house with Mercury (amatyakarak, combust and retro) and Venus.. Somehow without me even trying I have been introduced to mantras. And scariest part is it’s a new mantra every single day. Somehow I find it. The learning part is true. I have to get myself enrolled in different courses or have to learn atleast one new thing per day or else I feel dull. Also, recently I have developed intense liking for Astrology.

  • 24:39 “All these issues I was previously dealing with went away” This is true. It feels so wierd, as if I’m lost and out of life when I’m not working. Whatever I do, my day must be packed with work : the sweat aspect of working in everything, even in social media texting. Otherwise I feel empty. My Atmakarka venus in 10th (Virgo) With amatya Mercury. I need a GOAL. So that I can work on it. Otherwise I feel as if I’m dead. I believe the work you do at anything (lifting weight, studying, preparing, reading, coding, doing maths, painting or whatever) is important. Just open eyes and move the body, move the hands and juggle the temper. That’s the secret to a good life. ❤

  • I guess that’s a plus to have AK in 12th then? if one has burned off the karmas. I have learned to enjoy my own company (AK sun in 12th)…as the saying goes, “you are never alone if you like the person youre alone with.” My own solitude is blissful and so peaceful I would never trade it away for family and friends…. unnecessary drama and headaches. I love being in monk mode…i learn so much about my self about life…self reflection and self exploration. Where there is peace one will find pleasure..where there is pleasure one won’t find peace. I don’t think it sucks Kapiel…thank you for the insights! Embraced living affectionately but detached. Excellent article! ❤️🙏👌

  • So true. In 9th house. Couldn’t find work elsewhere so now i work with my father. Not a job i would have picked for myself but i do it. I like to write and when i put it out i try not to care about feedback. If they like it good, if they don’t it’s whatever cause i enjoy the process and i can’t not write when a story is buzzing in my head. I do it for fun.

  • I know from childhood that I’ll be traveling and I wanted to get away from my family and friends. I don’t like sharing my private life with friends and my problems with family. It looks like I’m the happiest in the room but little did they know that I’m so sad and dead inside. I always make time with myself and like to walk. When I shared about what I wanted then my family would talk ill and said that I’m egoistic but they never realized that my dreams are for them. I guess no one will help me besides myself. I’m also having trouble with my emotions. I have AK Venus it’s Vargottamma in Chitra Virgo conjunct with Mercury in Hasta Nakshatra 12th House.

  • 100% correct with me, i have moon as Atk in 4th house, i just want to be a housewife and stay home and take care of everything in the house, i have no desire to go out get a job…not interested at all…i knew this from childhood. I always automatically take care of everyone who comes in contact with me.

  • Thank you, thank you thank you. My Atmakarka for me is in the 12th House…. this explains why all my elders growing up in my life would say… it’s important that you get alone and spend time with God. I literally was forced to get alone at different points in my life. I found that when I was alone sometimes, it was honestly freeing because i’d incorporate spirituality and prayer.

  • Kapil you are great… You are just amazing.. I thank god for sending you to us.. Because of you i am able to understand me.. There is nothing equivalent that anyone can offer you.. Because you are helping us to know about us..our patters… I wish and pray god to look after you..and pray for your good to you and your family.. Great work kapil

  • Atmakaraka in 5H in Jyestha, and I’ve had a one-pointed focus (Mars in Vishakha) on learning Vedic Astrology, Ifa (African Traditional Religion), and Integrative Psychology. I invested a plethora of money into spiritual education and building a business and the ROI has been priceless. When Ketu crossed my Atmakaraka, I initiated into a religion within my lineage.

  • Thank you Kapeal ji. I have venus as AK in 11th house and I have been voluteering to Ramakrishna Ashrama since 14 years and it gives me sense of satisfaction. And yes I had to spend both my physical and mental power to bring my elder siblings life on track and it gave my sense of satisfaction. This is an excellent interpretation. 🙏💐Thank you.

  • wow! @Kapiel my mom has aatmakarka in the 4th house… she is the breadwinner of the family, handles all the bills and chores of the house, (doesn’t own a property though) and also has to support her parents (her mom who is often sick) and her child (me sometimes due to my chronic illness). Scary accurate! On the other hand, my aatmakarka is in 7th house and I have a career where I serve the public and try to solve issues affecting the society. I am not married but I’m kinda scared about how I have to serve my husband lol. I just hope he’ll be a good person. I will however have to burn my karma and pay back any debts that I own. Balance the scales of karma! 🙂

  • Saturn Atmakaraka. He’s seated Combust and Exalted in the Libra Ascendant at 27 degrees in Vishakha Nakshatra 3rd pada. Saturn is in Mrita (Dead) Avastha (State). Sun and Ketu in the 2nd house Scorpio. 8th house Taurus Rahu. When I genuinely cared for, loved, and helped others, I got called a liar, a despo, a flirt, an opportunist, dishonest, insincere, untrustworthy, and ugly, etc. Saturn as Atmakaraka, when afflicted, names and shames you in public. You can’t escape repeat failure and humiliation. No matter how humble a soul you are at birth, afflicted Atmakaraka Saturn crushes any ego left in you, smashes your self-confidence, pushes you up against the wall, and punches you in your face to make you extremely down-to-earth and humble so that there is nothing left for others to name and shame you further. That’s it. You are done with this life’s lessons. You’re now good to lead your quota of life as you wish. Afflicted Atmakaraka Saturn knows you will never recover from his toughest lessons. So he leaves you to fend for yourself. This is how exalted and combust Atmakaraka Saturn works when afflicted. 😊

  • AK in 8th house. Planning to go for research degree and career in psychology. I used to be an atheist and strongly against astrology until covid. Idk something in me was like let’s just see what it is and now I have studied it, also will try to get a formal education in astrology. Jung’s theory and astrology actually helped me deal with turmoil in my life. completely life changing experiences!!

  • Saturn in 2nd at 29 degrees, baking daily for my close family, cleaning and loading washing mashine and dishwasher almost everyday, having Saturn in Navamsa atmakaraka in Libra, preparing all the time their clothes, ironing and trying to keep the house clean and clutter free(because we have a lot of books and kids stuff and plants). in d1 my Saturn is also atmakaraka in 11th. Still, I remember how my mom gave me responsabilities since I was 5 or 6 years old, because I wanted to help her with different chores around the house, she was working night shifts switching with my dad to raise us . So, also I did not experience her more difficult life(although she is an ashwini, very hard working person and very Mom-I wished I could be like her sometimes, more relaxed ) . I keep continuing to put my efforts into my family and help friends when I can.:planet-orange-purple-ring: Bless you all!

  • AK in 10 th house and despite being a very hard worker and a topper in my school days, all through my career, I had tough people giving it tough time like I trained them and I still got fired and those I trained behaved horribly ., hope they get their karma for getting training from me n taking all credit of my work !!

  • Yeeey🎉 AK articles🥳 My AK is debilitated ( Venus with Mercury in 3 rd house ) And when i wasn’t speaking to my younger brother for few a years,it was tough times for him and for me on different areas of our lives. Now we are well, thanks God✌️. One year ago İ have entered my AK / Venus mahadasha🥹. Thank you Kapiel 🙏🏻💖

  • OMG unbelievable Kapeilji 😮 🙏 🙏 🙏… Spot on.. Am taurus ascendant, Mars is my Atmakaraka and in my 8th house (karma towards spouse family) … I gave all the money to my spouse and now separated from him… Was thinking of it even yesterday, cursing myself as to why i did it… But now got the answer through you.. My karmic debt got paid off. 🙏🙏 The second part of your analysis is also true, i wasn’t much of a believer in astrology but life lessons forced me to find reasons and solutions.. And you are so right once i started to study and research astrology, my situation is getting better.. Will join the course in your academy soon, as i now feel the search for my Guru is complete…🙏 Thanks and gratitude to u Sir for sharing the knowledge you have acquired… God Bless 🙏 🙏

  • Yes, my lagna lord atmakaraka Mars is in the 12th house with rahu-venus. As soon as my Mars dasha started I became a part of a spiritual organization run by women mostly. I learned various things, but 6 months before my rahu mahadasha I parted with them. Within the first 10 months of rahu mahadasha, I opened astrology just to see what it says about me and learned so much about me and the world and the people around me that it amazes me

  • I have a 7th house placement Retro Jupiter in Cancer as my Atmakaraka. I am confused…in my younger days I had a series of relationships that were out of balance in that I gave too much and always made it about the other person and it never worked. I was incredibly hurt when the relationships ended for obvious reasons and was told I was too nice. I finally decided that the pain was too great to continue to have relationships and I have been single now for the past 20 years. I feel upset and perplexed trying to understand this.
