My headcanon is that Goku is the martial artist built for drawn out individual fights while Vegeta is a shock trooper built for large scale wars/large scale combat. Goku is the lone impressive warrior on the battlefield that everyone hears about yet they’d never suspect it could actually be Goku (Sounds like a cool story actually, lol) while I could see Vegeta as more of a very impressive commander that leads from the front lines of combat in any sort of large scale conflict who probably places himself in way more danger then necessary. Mostly because Goku was raised by genuine martial artists while Vegeta was raised by planet brokers who’s job was to clear out entire militaries/worlds in a few weeks time and sell the world’s off for profit, which sounds like the most cutthroat/war-driven business that could ever exist. I’ve seen many fanfics where people pin Vegeta as basically one of Frieza’s thugs used to intimidate potential space real estate buyers into submission, just so Frieza doesn’t have to do it himself. Giving Vegeta a sense of negotiation/business sense as well.
People tend to forget Trunks and Vegeta didn’t need to train to ssj2 because vegeta had enough power coming out the hyperbolic time chamber to destroy cell. When saiyan go to super saiyan or even further they begin to get cocky. Which is why gohan decided to do that in ssj2 only to need his father’s help in spirit form to kill cell.
