Sorcerers can increase their “Spells Known” count by learning one new spell of any s-level they can use. They can use their sorcery points to gain additional Spell Slots or sacrifice Spell Slots to gain additional sorcery points. As they reach higher levels, they can swap out a spell each time they learn a new level of spells. Known casters should get subclass spells automatically learned, while prepared casters can replace any known spell with another as long as they can cast spells of that level.
Addressing fewer spells known is not a good balancing idea for sorcerers. Being a sorcerer means making critical decisions, and adding more known spells means they don’t have to choose anymore. The spells known column in the table tells you how many level 1 or higher spells a sorcerer can know, with level 4 having 5 cantrips. Sorcerers can always cast any spell they know and are considered to have their entire repertoire prepared at all times.
There is no way to increase the known spells of a sorcerer by simply gaining spell casting levels. When a sorcerer’s “Spells Known” count goes higher, they learn 1 new spell of any s-level they can use. Additionally, any time they take a feat from a third party book, they can add a number of known spells to their list equal to the bonus spells for Charisma. A spellbook would unfortunately be useless to a sorcerer, as the method by which a sorcerer or wizard learns spells is just too different.

Other spellcasters, such as bards, clerics, and Paladins, can use musical instruments, holy symbols, or a “Druidic Focus” to use an Arcane Focus. However, these items do not fall under the specific rules of the Arcane Focus feature. The penalty is reduced by 1 every time the target finishes a long rest until it disappears. True resurrection is a 2nd-level spell that can be used to revive a dead creature.
